Well, you've read the notes, you've connected the dots of the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off trying to connect the Dots but they keep eating them.

And the word of the day is: FRANGIBLE!
-
Wasn't Fran Gible the lady disqualified in the 10th annual Turkey Trot competition in 1938?

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Rodzinski!!

Well, I've caught up with yesterday's posts and now must go to sleep. Goodnight (from me), Tomovoz. And Good day to you. :)

Happy Birthday DR Rodzinski!

Good morning, all! I was wide awake around 5:10 am, and I decided to get up and do some work. I have to be on Wall Street by 9:30, so I thought I'd leave the apartment early and head down to the office. I can do a bit of work and then proceed down to the meeting.[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up, and I've just finished my oatmeal.

Happy Birthday Rod-Man!

As for favorite paintings...
Basically anything in the Art Institute of Chicago... ;)
As DR elmore already mentioned, there is Seurat's "Une dimanche..." - a.k.a. the Sunday in the Park with George painting.
There is also Caillebotte's, "Paris, A Rainy Day", which "greets" you as you enter the the French galleries at the AIC. Stunning. Here's a very low-resolution version of the canvas:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR RODZINSKI!!!!!

I just finished my oatmeal also. I had a banana and raisins in my oatmeal. I washed the bowl and now I'm going to update QuickTime since I need it to listen to some recordings on a Web site I found on Friday.
Cylinder Recordings (http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/)
If you are interested in old (not 30s or 40s or 50s kind of old) recordings, this is a great site. The early recordings made on cylinder have been put on-line by one of the libraries at University of California Santa Barbara. They have things from the late 1800s through the 1920s. There are early Sophie Tucker recordings and all sorts of other great stuff.
-
Well, time for me to get ready to head in for rehearsal. We only go till Noon today - at least the musicians - but I'm going to hang out and get some practicing in, as well as get a start on marking up my part with fingerings and patch change indications. However, we do have a wireless connection in the theatre, so I'll be bringing my laptop with me, and I hope to check in sometime this afternoon from the The Palace. -At least the seats of The Palace if not the steps of them. ;) In any case...
Laters...

Monday morning greetings! I'm up early on the last day of my 5-day weekend to have breakfast with my niece as she heads back to Illinois. Then I'm going to have my hair cut and get in some groceries in preparation for the snowstorm that DH Richard is bringing back from Wisconsin.
DR Jose - have a great first day at The Palace!
-
Hi, Ben - how'd your tuna glop turn out the other night?
-
Fran Gible married a Hog Farmer from Oklahoma. She was known to her family as Frances Bacon and to others as Fran Farmer. When asked if she would ever return to the Turkey Trot competitions she replied;
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me"

Ginny, Tuna Glop was very successful (although the crushed crackers I put on top got to close to the element and started to burn so I took them off). We had the leftovers for lunch yesterday afternoon.

Very cool DR Ben! I am listening to ELI GREEN'S CAKE WALK at this very moment! LOL!
My best friend from junior high school had quite a collection of cylinder recordings that he inherited from his grandfather along with many, many 78s...we had a lot of fun listening to those (the 78s..he did not have a machine to play the cylinders on). A couple of weeks ago he sent me a CD of some of our favorite of the 78s that he transferred.

This afternoon after lunch with friends, I'll finish up the DVD of MAKING LOVE and probably watch another ANGEL episode from the first disc of season 3. Haven't decided yet if I want to watch that last FIREFLY episode or wait and savor it at a later date.

Happy Birthday, Rodzinskeeee!!!
TOD - as a young balerina, the Degas dancers inspired me. I still have a great love for them. My mom painted a copy of one of them - the ballerina seated in a chair, bending over to tie her shoe... both my sister Rikki and I wanted to take it after Mom's death - Rikki has it. Since I'm here in her house, I have the pleasure of it every day.
also love the Renoir portraits... I had the good fortune to see a touring exhibit in Seattle a few years ago. Wow, the skin! how did he do that with people's skin? How luminous and alive. I did feel In Love - that blast of endorphin and desire and painful pleasure when I looked at those paintings.
-
Happy lines-learning, Bruce! I remember you as a brilliant young actor, and I remember Tom in Glass Menagerie. I remember with great delight your delivery of "Ergo, Purgo!" in Imaginary Invalid with Cindy Williams. I will be so happy to see you in this wonderful romp of a play!
-
Yesterday -- heartachingly/breakingly gorgeous day.
Today -- Ugh. Grey skies, spitting rain...
(I know, I know..."Grey skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face...")
-
My favorite painting hangs in my hall and it is by actor Gordon Mitchell. He took up painting in his 80s and when I visited him in Marina Del Rey, where he was running a gym with his pal Joe Gold, he gave me a wonderful painting he did of an indian which I was admiring.
His paintings were very childlike, but then so was he!
I often wonder what became of all of his paintings after he passed away in 2004.

Today, IS, however, that most wonderful of days....

Hmmm.....THE LIGHT FANTASTIC was the UK title for the Elizabeth Taylor-Larry Parks musical LOVE IS BETTER THAN EVER directed by Stanley Donen. Lennie Hayton did the music....so that might be the album you have...although that would make the release 10 years later than the movie....but maybe Parks' politics made the release late in the UK.

Snow Warning here for this evening and tomorrow. I went to the store to buy bread and hot dogs and bacon and eggs, just in case.
-
Degas, Monet, Seurrat....some of Remington's western painting.
I will have to think about this....but to choose a favorite RIGHT NOW....it would be The Last Supper just because of the subject and seeing the faces and that moment in time captured by a master painter....

DRJOSE @ the Palace. If it is a good group of fun people....then you will fit right in with them! :)

Back from my meeting on Wall Street, which is a bear to get to if you don't know the geography. I gave myself plenty of time, and I got to the office on Fourteenth Street around 8:05. Stepping out of a deli, I fell over an empty platform that usually held flowers and landed on my face. I scratched up the right lens of my glasses, which dug into the bridge of my nose and bled like crazy. I also skinned up all the knuckles of my left hand. I am now afloat in Neosporin which has been applied liberally to my injured person and I have just come from the place where I got these new glasses last October to have the lens replaced. Outside of the fact that I went to the meeting looking like a mugging victim, it went well.

And another picture that I really like is Antonio deVity, Paris Street Scene (at least, that's what the file name is). I downloaded this somewhere on the Internet and use it frequently as my desktop wallpaper. I like it a lot! (this is reduced in size for posting purposes):

It actually has been a fun morning at The Palace. Basically, today was for getting things set up, and making sure everything works. We did, and it does. All in all, a very easy morning.
However, getting here was not so easy. For some unknown reason, the A trains running downtown weren't running. I waited for almost 25 minutes for a train to show up. In the meantime, at least four A trains had stopped in the station heading uptown. So much for trying to get here early. As it was, I ended up almost 15 minutes late, but due to the structure of the morning, I was "OK".
But it sure is nice to be here.

Thank goodness, INDEED!
This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me feel I should just keep working for the County as long as I can possibly get my butt out of bed and get dressed!
When I broke my arm and had surgery, it cost me $15. I did get a bill for the ambulance that transported me 1.7 miles from the city street corner near my office to the hospital....and it was over $1,000 (also covered in that $15 I paid). Still, I could have hopped in a taxi and gotten there on my own for under $15.
I know the anxiety you are feeling about getting back to work (having a routine). But just BE SURE that when you do go back that your boss is in agreement that you should work only as long as you feel up to it. For the first week or so, you might consider half-days.
-
I'm on lunch break now, and I'll head back up to the seventh floor in a little bit to get some practicing in. But until then...

Favorite paintings cover a wide spectrum. I never really thought of anything as a "favorite," but I confess I enjoy paintings in which I can become lost...
To that end, one that has long fascinated me is the coronation of Napoleon by Louis David. It's not that I have any admiration at all for the subject matter, but the painting is amazing...

And remember, DR Danise - You take it easy today too.

I promise to at least try. I fell asleep in the easy chair yesterday afternoon and didn't wake up until about six PM.

The rains are falling heavily as I type this. The office is cold.

BK - Sounds like you're just dehydrated and/or your blood sugar is low - and after nine hours of sleep, you probably are. Just have a nice glass of water and a small bite to eat and wait a few minutes. Then take the Advil. *And taking Advil on an empty stomach is usually not the best thing to do anyway.

There was a wonderful David exhibit up at one of the museums in Williamstown last summer. Truly stunning work up close. They had reproduced some of the details from David's large(!) canvases, and it boggles the mind to think just how big the full paintings actually are based on the "excerpts".

I have to admit that I am a not that great when it comes to art. Those paintings that look like someone just threw the paint and everyone thinks are wonderful just make me scratch my head.

Insurance. Can’t live with it or without it.
I'm facing a bill that the insurance didn't pay because they said the doctor was out of network.
I'm going to raise cane about it when it arrives. What is the first thing that a doctors office asks when you call them? What insurance do you have and then they tell you they accept it or not.
I'm sorry that I was in la la land when this doctor (who I have a very vage memory of just standing by my bed) attended to me (doing what I have no idea) and I didn't have the presence of mind to ask if he accepted my insurance!
Surely he should have checked that before he entered the room!

Thank you all for the kind vibes! I'm really fine, just scratched and cut up. I didn't fall on my head, I didn't break a bone. At most I need a new lens for my glasses. I mostly embarassed myself publicly once again. Luckily, it's becoming second nature.

Really Dear Elmore, it's those unexpected "trips" that hurt the worse. I still think you should have your doctor give you a once over to be sure everything is alright and I would bill the store for the expense.

Well, seriously about those paintings that look like someone just threw up on them. Do people like them because they are some kind of art or are they really to scared to say “That looks like crap!” for fear of not sounding sophisticated enough?
I’ve seen an elephant who could paint just as well (if not better!) then some of those kind of works. :)

I love those elephant paintings!
Honestly!
I really like the kinds of paintings that are just splashes of colors (see the ones I posted above...if you can take your eyes off of Gordon Mitchell's muscles)...I also like watercolors. I am not much for realism in paintings, myself. But that is horseracing of course.

Also, DR Jose....any seemingly "good group" becomes infinitely better when "pot lucks" come into play!

Jackson Pollock is rolling over...and over...and over...in his grave.
Well, if he's one of those kind of "artists", tell him to keep on rolling, honey. Maybe he'll at least generate some new kind of engery and produce something useful at last! ;) ;D

David Letterman had a running segment last year called "Man or Monkey" in which he and Paul Shaeffer had to guess whether the artist of a presented painting was a man or an ape. The artists was always a monkey, but it seemed that Letterman would always guess wrong.

Think about who you think will be final 3 and who you think HE WILL say will be final 3.

Re: the link I just gave for Simon's American Idol picks.
I knew he'd say Chris. But I really thought he'd say Katharine. I also thought he might say Taylor or Mandissa. I'm actually surprised he said Kellie, even though she is one of my 2 favorite girls.
-
I like the painting by the guy they did the musical about.
Hello Dali
-
Happy birthday to DR Rodzinski!!!
I celebrate this day by looking through the Playbill for the 2002 California presentation of 70, GIRLS, 70 (which starred Ms. Charlotte Rae), and knowing that the Playbill for the Encores presentation (which will also star Ms. Charlotte Rae) will be even better.
-
Healing vibes to DR Elmore.
-
Topic of the day: Do the logos for FOLLIES and GODSPELL count as favorite paintings?
I'm also partial to a painting by Roy Lichtenstein (sp?), in which a woman is drowning with a ship in the distance and it had a cartoon-like caption saying "I'd rather drown than ask Brad for help." I think it's called Drowning Girl, and I wrote a paper about it in high school.
-
I had an argument with my teacher about what Lichtenstein's "Drowning Girl" really meant. Whether she's saying that she'd rather sink than have to rely on anybody else (my point of view), or whether she's accept help from anyone else except for that one person (my teacher's point of view). I still got an A on the paper, though, IIRC. :)
-
I am rather fond of this one because some days I really can relate to it:
-
In self-portraits is "I in the Art of the beholder?"
-
It is just downright COLD! We had some sleet this afternoon!
When I went out to lunch, I was dressed as if it were the dead of winter rather than the first day of spring. And the house feels cold despite the heat running.
-
When I got in, I finished the DVD of MAKING LOVE which I begun last night before prime time TV started. Just as bittersweet as it always was.
-
For the remaining 90 minutes of the afternoon, I thought I'd watch a Miss Marple mystery, but not the last of the Rutherfords which I haven't gotten to.
No, instead I put in AT BERTRAM'S HOTEL. Joan Hickson is as wonderful as ever, Joan Greenwood has a field day as a notorious gossip, and George Baker, always a favorite, plays the chief inspector.
-

Ah! memories.

I love Joan Greenwood. I always thought she'd have made a terrific Desiree in "A Little Night Music"...although I don't know if she sang or not. She would not have done any worse, I don't suppose, than Jean Simmons or La Liz.

for reasons I detailed last time this TOD came up, I would have the start with the Blue Man Group:
Gainsborough's "Blue Boy"
Sir Joshua Reynold's "Mrs. Siddons as the Tragic Muse"
and Sir Thomas Laurence's "Pinky"
all three of which reside on separate walls in the same room in the Huntington Estate in San Marino, right next to Pasadena, where I used to spend glorious afternoons when I was at Caltech, studying in the gardens and admiring the rotating display of William Blake watercolors.
Amazing when you do a Google search how the Internet versions of the same painting vary in color and tone--and none do the original justice at all, of course.
-
Good Afternoon!
I've descended the Stage Left staircase and I'm back in the theatre. -The wireless connection doesn't reach the seventh floor. Yet. ;)
I got a lot of good work done. Practiced some tricky passages. Wrote in some fingerings. Checked some notes. Found some "new" sounds. And when I reached the end of my book, I stopped. There are a few numbers that are currently being edited, and I hope I can go through those tomorrow. However, I am feeling much, much better about the part and my playing of the part. Undoubtedly, there are some passages which can only really be "tested" in a run, but at least the notes and patterns aren't so foreign to my fingers and brain now.
Practice. Practice. Practice.

It's so true! I could not find a great picture of the Prendergast watercolor I posted.

DR Jose, if you see Paul Holderbaum of Chelsea Music, tell him hello! He's a really great guy.
-
After posting those pictures, it occurred to me to go to the web site of the Huntington Library itself, and I have modified my post. Yes, these jpegs from the gallery where the paintings reside are definitely truer renderings than any others I googled.
-
DR Jose, if you see Paul Holderbaum of Chelsea Music, tell him hello! He's a really great guy.
Will do. However, I believe the Chelsea folks are off-premises today.
-
Travel update: DH Richard has returned home from Eau Claire, WI, ahead of the snowstorm. My niece called about an hour ago to report her safe arrival, too.
-
Elmore tripped the light un-fantastic! Sorry about the fall. Now you will think of my birthday as a day where you fell :(
-
I'm wondering when DR Jose will get around to writing a book about "this phase" of his life.
He can call it:
"My Right Foot...no..My Left Foot...No..it's My Right..No My Left...Foot!"
(I just did some catching up from yesterday's posts! :D )
Actually, that whole "title" could apply to my keyboard set-up here at The Palace too. I'm dealing with four pedals with this set-up. Usually, it's just three, and sometimes those are hard to maneuver at times. But four... Hmm... But again... Practice, Practice, Practice.
*And for those musico-technologically minded, the four foot pedals I'm dealing with are: damper (sustain), volume, patch/program change, and modulation. It's the modulation one I'm not used to dealing with, but due to some of the programming, it's a necessary evil at this point.
;)
-
Oh...
And it seems that there are lot of foodies and chocoholics in the cast and crew. In fact, one of the director's assistants happened to leave a couple of bars of various English chocolate bars on the tech table - Cadbury, Green & Black's, Bounty, etc.
Consequently, I've been taking the stairs up to the seventh floor today.
;)
-
I've always loved "Pinky," too ever since seeing it in person many years ago.
-
LIGHT FANTASTIC, the soundtrack LP I found, pictured below, is some sort of smaller movie. Jean Shepherd, the author of A CHRISTMAS STORY actually acted in it. The cover is rather striking, which is why I bought it. This cropped image is from ebay 'cause I didn't have a chance to photograph my copy.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - Any mail for you today?
-
Thank you again, everybody, for the additional Birthday wishes! They make my day.
-
When I got in, I finished the DVD of MAKING LOVE which I begun last night before prime time TV started. Just as bittersweet as it always was.
The only info Amazon.com gives on this one about the picture is that it's NTSC.
Is it widescreen anamorphic?
-
I've always loved "Pinky," too ever since seeing it in person many years ago.
I give up? What does this mean?
-
I think DRMATTH means that he viewed the painting referenced in DR SWW's earlier post.
-
Snow after midnight!
And tonight on TCM SWEETHEARTS in color with Jeannette and Nelson and Victor Herbert's music!
-
DRJOSE - do you have to supply your own instrument for LESTAT?
-
I think DRMATTH means that he viewed the painting referenced in DR SWW's earlier post.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....I was thinking the movie with Ethel Waters and Jeanne Crain...so...
Duh.
-
And what a Birthday surprise. What did I receive in the mail today, but an LP record, courtesy one MBarnum.
A rather mint-looking copy of Liz Damon's Orient Express. Looks super-cool.
On White Whale records, a label that had precisely one successful band. Anyone know who?
-
Of course....The Turtles.
-
Well it ain't me babe!
-
Of course....The Turtles.
Yes...the Turtles.
-
Yes, DRRODZINSKI, the sun enters Aries today and it is the start of a new astrological calendar.
You have good patterns in your health and employment houses and the only caveat right now is to be guarded against a tendancy to overspend.
-
Guilty Pleasure:
"Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band"
-
Well it ain't me babe!
LOL....
-
DRJOSE - do you have to supply your own instrument for LESTAT?
No. -Which is actually one of the "joys" of being a keyboard player in the "big time". The keyboard(s) and programming are supplied and done by the production company. I just have to bring myself to the theatre each night and that's it - no instrument case to lug on the subway.
-
Guilty Pleasure:
"Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band"
So as not confuse it with the Imitation? ;D
-
Too late!
-
Well, I think I'm going to head outside for the first time since 9:45 this morning...
Dinner!
Laters...
-
Well done.
There's no stumping this gang!
-
Guilty Pleasure:
"Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band"
I have a couple of their albums, love the packaging, but confess I don't go back to them too often.
-
Cherchez la Femme DR Ron? Each to his own.
-
I have a couple of their albums, love the packaging, but confess I don't go back to them too often.
It's that groovy beat
Gets in my feet
Makes me wanna holler
Makes me wanna shout
Makes me wanna get my groove on.
-
Matt came by and we ran the scene three times, each time getting better and more comfortable. I'm about ninety percent line-correct now. There are just three speeches where I'm having trouble connecting the dots from one line to another. However, by the end of our rehearsal they were starting to make sense to me, so I'm hoping to have everything down by the time we rehearse tomorrow. It's really a fun character to play, I must say.
-
Today is also my father's birthday. He is 80 years old.
-
I didn't know the connection twixt Dr Buzzard and Kid Creole until this very minute.
-
Side topic:
Record labels that had only one successful band. For instance:
Fantasy
Like White Whale, Fantasy milked its one act (CCR), fought with them creatively, and then engaged in legal battles with them, where the bands lost control of their own music.
-
Guilty Pleasure:
"Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band"
Years ago, I used to have the album "Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Pennett," but I sold it with a whole bunch of vinyl albums that I thought I wouldn't want anymore. WHAT WAS I THINKING????? Anyway, I remember that there were a couple of songs on that album that I liked, but I don't remember what they were. :-\ The real problem is that everytime I check eBay, nothing looks familiar.
-
And what a Birthday surprise.
What I'm wondering is who's gonna get the paddling honors...35 gentle pats...and one vigorous one to grow on??
-

Check Amazon.com....there's a "Best of..." album there that might have some of the songs you remember/miss.
-
Given today's birthday it is fitting that the connection should be Thomas. An August reference.
-
Don't forget to thank the author, should you ever run into him.
Yes...and ask him what he was thinking with some of those lines that give you trouble!
:D
-
Does any one give any creedence to your fantasy DR Rodzinski?
-

You mean I get to paddle someone? Birthdays rule!
-
Does any one give any creedence to your fantasy DR Rodzinski?
Everyone except Saul Zaentz.
-
The only info Amazon.com gives on this one about the picture is that it's NTSC.
Is it widescreen anamorphic?
Yes, it is. As I said last night, the transfer looks nice but not super sharp. However, I'm not complaining. I'm just glad to have the movie on DVD at all. Never thought it'd be transferred over which is why I recorded it off the Fox Movie CHannel and burned my own DVD of it.
-

Well, I was going to do some record shopping before I meet TPunk for dinner, but now...
-
I give up? What does this mean?
After seeing the graphic of the painint "Pinky" (or is it "Pinkie"), I was reminded that I had seen and liked the painting when I was in LA many years ago.

Check Amazon.com....there's a "Best of..." album there that might have some of the songs you remember/miss.
Thanks for the info. I'll check them out later. :)

Zanz can't dance
But He'll steal your money
Watch him or he'll rob you blind
.......
........
He's silent and quick
Just like Oliver Twist
Before it's over your pocket is clean
A four legged thief
Paid a visit on you

Oh, dear, another theater company in town is now listing auditions for YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. I've had my heart broken before auditioning for this show, and I'm wary of trying again. I've e-mailed the director (whom I've working with in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and SCROOGE) asking if she's thinking younger adults or older adults for the cast. I'm interested in Snoopy which should be OK at any age, but you never know what's in a director's head.
-
Guess I'll head downstairs now to start on the dining room cleaning. Then some reading and on to nighttime TV.
WBBL.
-
I like the Fraternity label....out of Ohio, I think. Jack Larson recorded for them.
-
but you never know what's in a director's head.
Ain't it the truth....sometimes THEY don't even know. 8)
-
Jack Larson?
-
Jack Larson?
Yes, this is his 1960 release: ;D
(http://i6.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/a3/e3/e4_1_b.JPG)
-
Obscure indeed DR Jack.
Neither Artist nor song charted nationally it seems.
My latest obscure, and recently purchased 45rpm disc was "Joey's Song" by Betty Martin (1959) on ABC - Paramount. A Vocal version of the big hit for Haley's Comets.
-
Our Dog Magnus has a birthday today too.. but I guess that is tomorrow! He is 77.
-
Yes, it is. As I said last night, the transfer looks nice but not super sharp. However, I'm not complaining. I'm just glad to have the movie on DVD at all. Never thought it'd be transferred over which is why I recorded it off the Fox Movie CHannel and burned my own DVD of it.
Ah...this is not the commercial DVD then? So...you don't know if the commerical one is W/S-anamorphic, do you?
-
You mean I get to paddle someone? Birthdays rule!
Unless you're going to paddle yourself.
The birthday boy gets paddled!
Birthday rules!
-
DR George, I was thinking of you yesterday as I was listening to some music. I put on an LP by a vocal group called The Honeydreamers. Never heard of 'em except for this album. It's from 58 or 59. They sound a lot like the Transfer, only three guys, two gals. Great harmonies. Album's called "It's Dark on Observatory Hill"
-
Always liked the ABC-Paramount Logo!
-
I like the Fraternity label....out of Ohio, I think. Jack Larson recorded for them.
Yeah, Cincinnati. I think Jimmy Dorsey's "Sophisticated Swing" came out on Fraternity.
-
So, did TPunk make a cake for the birthday boy?
-
Be careful, Tomovoz, Saul might sue you just for posting those lyrics.
-
No cake, and no paddling, just treating me to dinner at my favorite country cookin' establishment: Cowgirl Hall of Fame.
To which I am off now. Chicken Fried Chicken, here I come!!
-
Spam "name" of the day: Delude G. Margarine...subject was a come-on for pharmaceuticals.

Gordon Mitchell invited me up to his apartment to see his etchings paintings. What a neat guy he was!
How big was his were his etchings?
-
I could EAT a piece of birthday cake right about now.
-
I honestly know nothing about art, but I do like the dogs playing poker!
-
DRJOSE - do you have to supply your own instrument for LESTAT?
Since it is an Elton John show, probably only his organ!
-
DR Dan (the Man) - Any mail for you today?
Nope, there was nothing when I left today. But it's not unusual for something to sit in my office mail room for a day or two. At least it's not as bad as it was last year when packages would sit for a week or more before they were brought to my desk. I'll go up there tomorrow and see if I can pick it up myself. But you never know with mail room staff--they can be as tempermental as backstage wardrobe people.
-
Our Dog Magnus has a birthday today too.. but I guess that is tomorrow! He is 77.
Your dog is younger than you????
-
I honestly know nothing about art, but I do like the dogs playing poker!
And there's nothing like a velvet painting!
As was par for a lousy day, I schlepped down to rehearsal to find there wasn't one tonight because the conductor never answered my email from 11:30 this morning. I'm going to bed.
-

Sounds interesting. Thanks for the info! :)

Your dog is younger than you????
And that's a surprise? That's why at least someone in the else here can still learn about tricks!
-
Here's a painting that Ruby, the elephant at the Phoenix Zoo, painted:
I have a litho of that painting!!! I used to go to the Phoenix Zoo and watch her paint
-
I would hang Ruby's painting in my home.
It is hanging in my home!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR RODZINSKI!!!!!
-
DR Cillaliz - did you get your snow day today?
-
No cake, and no paddling, just treating me to dinner at my favorite country cookin' establishment: Cowgirl Hall of Fame.
Is that the place at 10th & Hudson in the West Village? DH Richard had heard about it on the Food Network and we went there that beautiful Saturday at the end of our glorious anniversary week in January. Have a rootin' tootin' birthday dinner!
-
No, but about 5:00 PM it started snowing like crazy and it's still snowing. So maybe tomorrow depending on how much it snows tonight
-

That's what I'm hoping for, too. It's supposed to start here sometime after midnight and I'm not due into work until noon.

Why I Have Been E & T
by Vixmom
On Friday night I took the Vixter and two fo her friends to the high school play (The Wiz) and from thence to Friendly's for icecream and by time we got home (after 11:30 ) I was exhausted and went right to bed.
All of Saturday and Sunday the Vixter had control of the PC because of a major project she has due this Wednesday.
This morning she and I both woke up feeling absolutely terrible. I ended up calling us both in sick and making appointments with both of our doctors. She had a 10:30 appointment in a town 20 minutes south west of my home so off we went at 10 to be sure... then of course sat around the waiting room until 11:30 to be seen. After diagnosing The Vixter with a sinus infection and ear infection and prescribing meds, the GP noticed a mole on the Vixter's neck she didn't like the looks of .
She got on the phone with a dermatologist and arranged a 2:30 appointment in his office. So we drove the 20 minutes northeast to home to drop off the prescription at the local pharmacy and then a quick lunch of tomato soup and tuna sandwiches and then off twenty minutes south east to the dermatolgist. We were there by 2:20 and after writing out our entire life histories and giving every possible bit of personal data about everyone I have ever met on the seven thousand page medical release form I was handed on arrival, we were politely ushered in promptly at 3:27. Where it took the doctor approximately 2 minutes to announce that the growth was absolutely normal and benign. GOOD NEWS there!
We then traveled back twenty minutes northwest to our pharmacy.. picked up The Vixter's medication and some over-the-counter stuff we needed and stopped home to give her her meds prior to my 4:30 appointment at my doctor, twenty minutes northeast of our home. The meds were not there. The bag was, the pharmacy notes were, the over-the-counter stuff was, but the meds themselves
...not there.
So I call to complain and say I would be back in an hour and expect the meds to be there but since it was now 4:15... I was off to my doctor, where I was seen after only 5 minutes (thank goodness) and told I had exactly the same dread diseases as the daughter, was chided for letting my thyroid meds lapse and given prescriptions to fill.
Back to the pharmacy and drop off the two scripts and pickup the missing Vixter med.
Home for the briefest of moments then back to the pharmacy I go to get my stuff. What a relaxing sick day eh?
-
That's what I'm hoping for, too. It's supposed to start here sometime after midnight and I'm not due into work until noon.
It was supposed to start here 2 days ago, so if it doen's stop tonight, you may still get it
-
Poor Vixmom and Vixter...hope you both feel better very soon!
And what a story! LOL!
-
Sounds to me like DR Vixmom and the Vixter need another sick day to recover from the one they took today!
-
Whew! Just caught up to today....I willa tempt the past three days but may not get there ... alto I have missed out the notes... must read the notes

-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RODZINSKY!!
HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT DAY! :D
-
T Punk your avatar makes my “welcome back” seem very grand and extra special.
FJL thank you. We were relieved to have missed all the bad weather. If only we had known, could have left the car with the loud clunky snow tires at home. ;D
Matt H we are always glad to be home from LA.
Cillaliz, Jose, & Rodzinsky thanks for the greetings
François, yes loads of laundry. In fact the last load, for today, is in the dryer. I had to take a break to pick up the mail and choose the stain for our new front door. We have decided we are tired of the rain pouring in through the crack in the front door.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAGNUS!
-
Vibes to vixter and vixmom!!

Penny of course I remember Felice. A few times we went to her place after school where we were permitted to smoke cigarettes. :-[

I’m busy browsing Labrador Retriever websites, specifically looking for English Chocolate Labs.
They are pretty...
I want to someday get an Irish Terrier.
-
Of course you want an Irish dog-LOL.
-
Here is a picture of what they look like....
I also like Australian blue heelers.
-
Not a lab person.... They are nice dogs though...
Bichons are game little dogs also. I also like Irish Wolfhounds but you need a very large pocket book and yard to own oneof them.
-
I'm not a dog person...I like cats.
-
But I work with a whole bunch of dog people...not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)
-
DakotaCelt, I can see why you love the Irish Terrier...beautiful!
Jane, welcome home...are you and Keith thinking about getting another dog??
-
I'm not a dog person...I like cats.
I dont mind cats....

I also like westies, scotties, German Shepherds, some of the spaniels, hounds, and non sporting breeds....
I do like Chihauhuas.
-
DakotaCelt I can’t see the photo, maybe tomorrow since I must leave now. I also like blue heelers.
MBarnum thanks, and we are discussing getting a dog.

I, WILLA TEMPT--that's the title of my next hardboiled detective novel.
-
Hi, DR Jane! Welcome back from your southern journey.
Oh, she's not even here...
-
Finishing a DVD. Just ran the lines by myself and basically got through it with but one mistake. I think if I keep drilling every day, I'll be okay by Friday.
-
It was very interesting watching SWEETHEARTS on TCM tonight. I had never seen it before. Not only was it Jennette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy's first color movie, it was the first MGM Technicolor film. And, boy, does it ever show. The makeup people had a lot to learn.
Also, funny to see the humongo set from THE GREAT ZIEGFELD reused. Makes me wonder--has there ever been an instance of a Broadway show recycling sets from another show?
-
I found out that Digger's favorite TV show is LAW AND ORDER. Mark told me to be sure to watch it with him...Digger sings along with the theme music! He really does! As soon as the music started for that show his ears pricked up and he looked at the TV screen...then as the theme goes on for a bit he starts howling to the music! LOL!
-
Tonight I had the rare distinction of seeing a wonderful composer and singer perform in a two hour concert (with intermission). Her name is Amanda McBroom. To Hainsies and Kimlets our esteemed BK produced the cast album of her musical HERATBEATS. In all my years of cabaret concert going she is one of the best. A beautiful singer who gets to emotions of the lyrics. Her autobiographical song Errol Flynn which closed the first act had people around me in tears. Although I have heard other singers and Miss McBroom sing the song on recordings there is something special about seeing her singing this song live as was the song that closed the show, The Rose. It was a super show from start to finish and mere words cannot express the admiration I have for Amanda McBroom. I got to meet her after the show and she was so gracious and signed my cd booklets. (I forgot to bring Heartsbeats. I will do that when I see here again)
BTW
BK, Amanda says hello.
You should talk to here about your cabaret series. She'd be perfect.

Hoo and Ray!! We're up to 6 inches of snow and still snowing hard. The schools in town are already 2 hours late, so our office will open 2 hours late. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it turns into a snow day.
There are places not too far from here that got 26 inches of snow..YIKES! that's too much

When Annie 2: Miss Hanigan's Revenge bombed in Washington DC I believe some of the sets were reused for the tour of Annie 1 that was sent out shortly after Annie 2's collaspe

DR Ron, I guess I'm just not expressing myself well at all today.
The commercial DVD of MAKING LOVE is widescreen and enhanced for 16:9 TVs. This is what I have watched for the past two days.
Because I never dreamed Fox would ever issue this movie on a commercial DVD (they've always seemed kind of ashamed of it, I thought), I burned a DVD of the full frame Fox Movie Channel broadcast of this movie six months ago for my own DVD library, but I have since junked that DVD because of this new, much superior commercial release.

Good Evening!
While walking to the subway, I noticed a crowd standing outside of the Ziegfeld Theatre. Apparently, it was the New York premiere of the new Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster movie, "Inside Man". The had the Red Carpet rolled out and everything. And then I noticed another crowd and a bunch of lighting rigs set up across the street, but the lights were shining on the building there, and not on the Ziegfeld. It turned out that the new George Clooney movie was filming inside. *And from some signs posted on the streets, they'll be filming around Central Park South tomorrow.
And then as luck would have it, I ran into my friend, James. He works for a photo agency, and was checking in on some of his photographers. And since we both were in need of some dinner, we headed over to China Regency. Chicken Dumplings and Sesame Beef - Yum!

I forgot that I had LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT on the DVR, so I'll have to catch up with it tomorrow.
Instead, I started my evening's viewing with another ANGEL episode from Season 3. I have one more episode on disc 1 to watch which will undoubtedly be tomorrow.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER fell back into irritating territory for me. All this back and forth with Robin is kind of anticlimactic since we found out in the pilot episode that she's his kids' "Aunt Robin."

Ms. McBroom really is a wonderful woman. I had the honor and pleasure of working with her last summer on one of her "new" shows, Dangerous Beauty. She was writing the lyrics to Michelle Brourman's music. Since then, she's kept in touch with me regularly through e-mails and such. Truly a gracious Lady.

'24' had a less intense episode tonight, but that's OK after the nail-biters of the past three weeks. There was plenty of suspense, of course, but not quite as much edge-of-your-seat tension. I'm not complaining. Excellent episode and a terrific cliffhanger in the final seconds.
-
CSI: MIAMI was as entertaining as usual with a fast, colorful hour of robbery and murder. Seeds for future episodes planted tonight, too.
-
Sorry you and Vixter have been under the weather, DR Vixmom. Feel better.

Feel better vibes to Vixmom and the Vixter

Loving the Liz Damon LP. Did not recognize "1900 Yesterday," but it is great. The first cut on side 2, "You're Falling in Love" is my fave.

No snow here, Cillaliz, just very chilly and wicked winds.
-
Happy B'day again Tom....you have 20 minutes left in the Central Time Zone

For those who ordered the Kevin and the SSS disc - I can't ship until the Kevin disc arrives (sometime next week). I did ship a couple of the SSS discs if the order was accompanied by something I already had in stock - but only a couple.

Around this time last year, BK was here in NYC for his book reading.
-
Will have to check the budget and break dwon and buy a cd.... The Kevin Spirtas one looks interesting....

Very rainy here. I'm watching a lovely French film by an Australian director starring an American actress and a Chinese actor.
-
It's actually very windy out, but my house is very protected so it's just piling up
-
Cillaliz, that one looks like a frosty brew hanging off the side of your house.
