singdaw - Poly-dorsal isn't a word?

Wasn't she Miss America 1957?

Nope. Any red-blooded South Carolinian knows that Marian McKnight was Miss America 1957.

So, is "red-blooded" a euphemism in South Carolina?

For what?

Um... Let me put it this way: Do you remember what her gown looked like too?

;)

Yes, but only because I saw pictures. I was too young in 1957 to stay up to see the pageant back then. You're too young to understand most likely, but the Miss America Pageant was one of the BIG events of the year back in those days. As big as the Super Bowl is now, and I'm not kidding.

And, for your information, Marian McKnight was the first Miss America from South Carolina, so she was a very special lady in our state and was as famous as a local lass could become back in those days.

DR MattH - I apologize for my non-intentional snarkiness.  I guess that was the Yankee in me coming out.  -I was born in Boston.  -Which would actually make a Red Sox.. Sock... ::)

I just know that for some male members of my generation, if you happened to watch the Miss America Pageant, and remember the Names and Years, well...  You probably had a gown of your own somewhere in your closet. At the very least, the matching set of pumps.

Well, I didn't hang around such guys, but we are a couple of generations removed from one another.

What I can tell you is that Marian McKnight in South Carolina was a "star" in the late 1950s and 1960s. Everybody knew who she was.

So glad Freddie is back safe and sound!!

Freddie was missing again?  DR MBarnum, I think it's time for a trip to the people who inject the microchips.

(..and I mean for Freddie.)

A microchip is good but a GPS finder would help DR Marnum locate Freddy wherever he is hiding in the neighborhood.

For those DRs on Facebook, I highly recommend looking up Harvey Fierstein's profile, and checking out his latest "Note". -Or just click the link on my Wall.

DR Elmore, thank you so much for Mother Goose and the lovely Christmas card!  I'm listening to it now (Mother Goose, not the card.)

Yep, GPS is the latest tech.

People are also installing GPS's into their Baby Jesuses so that they are quickly recovered if stolen.

Jose - You know you're always welcome here when you're in NYC on a foodie holiday.  Since we're going out Christmas Eve, we're keeping Christmas Day fairly simple, a mid-afternoon feast-like meal, relatively (for us) tiny group, and it would be great to have you, if you can let us know by Tues. night.

I'm having problems updating/writing comments on Facebook.

Anybody else?

I just wrote on your wall, so I guess not.

Now it's working.  It wasn't before.

Thanks.

Further tp Jose - You'll know at least Skip and me and Julie who confirmed that she'll be here, so that's at least 3 people and 2 dogs that you'll know.  (At the very most it would be 6-7 people, so not the normal tumult  :) )

Jose, I haven't set up the Mail program to automatically save to my folder - how do I do that?  I've been right clicking and manually saving them to the folder.

Umm... It's a little hard to explain, but...

Open Mail

Mail -> Preferences -> Rules -> Add Rule

You'll see a bunch of options and drop-down menus.  -It's probably just easiest to keep right-clicking or dragging them right to your Saved folder, but if you take it one step at a time and logically, it's "easy" to set up.

Since the talk has turned to bailouts and I guess the moratorium on political matters seems over -

I was going to wait until we finalized this latest parody video, which is going to happen after Jose's roommate Jim (whose company created and assembled the visual part of this) gets back from his Christmas trip, but with the discussion it just seems sort-of timely on HHW today in a way it might not be next week.

It runs about 8 or 9 minutes, and Jim recommended (which seems right!) that it's best viewed in the High Quality mode at the bottom right of the youtube screen.

While on the subject of parodies, and since I saw Pal Joey again tonight, here was my response on All That Chat to someone who asked the burning question: What about Jeremy Piven for Pal Joey?

singdaw seemed to like it, so i wanted to share it (and by putting it on HHW, have it permanently on the innernet)
