I'm off to help out at the Halloween festival in the new neighborhood. I did this last year and it was a fun way to frighten a lot of children in a short amount of time. I mean...it was fun to see them all decked out in their cute costumes!

I've always heard it referred to as Daylight Savings Time. so it must be a colloquialism.  In fact, Foxnew.com refers to "Daylight Savings":

However it does make the evenings longer.  Oddly that means the sun will now set around 530 instead of 630. By December 21 up here in ND, it will be dark by 430. JOY!! -- NOT!!

I watched a good many things today since I started a bit earlier than usual.

I began with SHOW BOAT, the 1951 Technicolor version. I assume Warners is remastering this for the three film SHOW BOAT DVD set we're supposed to get in the coming year. The color is ravishing in the current DVD release, but there are specks in the transfer, and the foggy scene where Julie leaves the Cotton Blossom while Joe Sings "Old Man River" plus its reprise doesn't look very good. Perhaps digital sets just have a hard time with that kind of fog, but I think the transfer doesn't help matters in that moment either.

Next, I watched the Ronald Colman version of A TALE OF TWO CITIES. Though not a complete restoration, it looks mostly fine, just a bit too grainy in a couple of spots and some noticeable scratches a couple of times.

The movie, of course, is a classic and one of my favorite Selznick films from his years at MGM.

Since I didn't watch it on Friday night when ABC showed it, I took out my DVD of IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN and enjoyed its beautiful color and funny storyline all over again.

Also on the disc is YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN which I have cued up to watch when I go back down later.

Who has seen the show on the stage and what did you think?

Who has heard the CD, and what do you think?

I really love the movie as pure entertainment and think the show would be interesting to watch. And I look forward to receiving the cast album soon.
