bk - Whilst you are in Indianapolis, I think you should have a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216832/).  Or maybe stop into  Shapiro's (http://www.shapiros.com) and see how their corned beef and/or pastrami holds up to Langer's.

"They just came out of a whole semester of sexual tension."

That just seems like something out of a Barbara Cartland novel.

As for the Friday Media Check...

Well...

Since I've been back in Richmond this week, I've been spending a lot of time listening to WCVE (http://ideastations.org/radio), which really is my favorite pubic radio station anywhere.

Good morning...well it's after midnight here.  The placard meeting was still going when I left at 11:45 PM!   There were 30 houses on the agenda.  A number were demolished, but we got a 90 day extension on a lot of them, including the former synagogue. Many of the houses are in the same neighborhood that Paul and He who hates cats live in.  It's a cool historic district that is just starting to come to life.  The council agreed to the deferral and actually went though a lot of soul searching on how to save some of these buildings.

I had the best time.  I know that sounds silly, I was sitting with he who hates cats, his best friend, my friends Margo and John.  When you sit through a five hour meeting there are many things that get to be quite funny

Not sure if this is going to work.  A friend is a Shrine Circus clown.  He thought he could make it to the meeting and go back to the circus but ended up staying all night.  It was hilarious when he got up to speak on behalf of some properties.  all the councilmen got out their cell phones and started snapping photos

Just click on it and you'll see him

The cat thing has become a joke now. Of course they showed a really disgusting house with cats and poop in it.  I got a grin and knowing look from He Who Hates Cats.  Then when another friend asked what a yellow tagged house meant, he said "Biohazard. You know like mold or cat poop or hairballs..."  really funny

Who knew a placard meeting could be so entertaining.  Anyway, I've volunteered to help He who Hates cats  save his neighborhood and will be going to the association meeting to do what I can to pitch in.  He said I could go even though I don't live there.  I'm looking forward to it.

TOD:

Absolutely no new DVDs to watch this weekend, so I'll just pick something out of my library.

Last night, after all the discussion about it, I watched TOMBSTONE.  First time in over 10 years.

My copy is the old, original DVD release, so there were no "bells & whistles," just a good western.

BK,

Cincinnati is a beautiful city.  I visited it back in the 1980s and, in some ways, it reminded me of Seattle.

The funny thing about it is that its airport is in Kentucky.

Last night DR Jennifer wrote about GLEE:

"Emma didn't turn him down. Why would he expect to have sex with her during their first date?? "

Um...that's called a turn down. We're talking about adults here, adults who have had an emotional connection from day one. In one of the last episodes before the hiatus, Emma said that she would have done anything for Will including leaving the coach if he had just snapped his fingers. Kind of a turnaround now, don't you think?

"He is supposed to be the good guy, the moral compass for the show."

Says who? You? He's a MAN. He has his flaws, his desires, his hopes and dreams like all of the other characters. He's coming out of a sexless marriage and was horribly betrayed by someone he loved very deeply. I think you're expecting a miracle here if you don't think he has physiological needs that a woman who had been sending signals of devoted interest for years might have been willing to meet. And when he was once again frustrated, I wasn't THE LEAST surprised he was turned on by a woman who's his female equivalent, interested in music and excellence and very competitive.

You're living in a dream world if you think any man isn't going to explore avenues of sexual interest when he's been thwarted for months on end by women he trusted and cared for.

The post office was empty this morning. I suppose for the employees it was like a holiday after the April 15 madness yesterday. I went right to a window and mailed my package to Germany and then I went to a postage machine and posted all 6 packages of Victor Herbert songs and other surprises to Wisconsin, Oregon, Indiana, Ohio, and other places. I don't believe I was longer there than half an hour. I've had my breakfast, meds, and coffee and I will shortly head down to City Center to visit with Joshie and deliver some Finale files for a Full Score we want to print out and peruse.

I need to be back here by noon to have lunch with my friend Joseph annd hand over the WIZARD OF OZ edits.

TOD:
DVD: the three Netflix items still sit here; I may mail them back today. BONES, Season Three continues
CD: A lot of McGlinn material
   VCR: mo' porn!

Yesterday was supposed to have been the first day of Fiesta in San Antonio, a 10-day excuse to have tons of parties in which hundreds of thousands of people show up to eat, drink and take time off. This is a huge thing in the city. Next Friday is even a holiday for many businesses because the parades downtown block off all traffic. Anyway, it rained all day with no sign of stopping, so the openings yesterday were cancelled. Today looks no better. But I still have to judge a tamale-cooking contest (only half outdoors). Should be fun.

DR Ben - RE: The Two Monitors - Did you have it set up so that you could "across" the monitors?  I've seen some situations where that type of set up really comes in handy - music editing(!) - and I also know that it tends to work better when you have two identical flat-screen monitors. But, as you stated, it does eat up a lot of real estate on your desk.

Need to get a copy of that "Rose Marie" with Julie Andrews. I loved it on vinyl and don't know where that copy is now.

I never thought I'd own it. I didn't have the LP, and it was out of print forever, so I was thrilled by the prospect of it finally getting a CD release. I've only listened to a few cuts thus far, but it has brought a wide smile to my face just knowing the score is being this beautifully presented and sung.
I remember finding the vinyl at a yard sale in Louisville what must be 30 years ago. It was used, but by the end of that summer, it had been played dozens of times more. I thought hers and Tozzi's voices on "Indian Love Call" was just great, even though it always reminded me of Carol Burnett's version.

Jose, technically everything worked the way it was supposed to, mouse crossed over, programs opened and closed, the images were sharp and clear. It was all a matter of desk space and awkward placement of the keyboard on that limited desk space. I decided to try it because others in my department (with more desk space) seem to like it so much but I found myself twisting and turning and having trouble using the keyboard. Since I'm a real touch typist, not a hunt and peck boy, it just got more and more irritating. I'm much more calm (as calm as I can be in a day filled with ughs) now that I am back to one monitor.

Glad on the whole it went well.  Now you must convert the cat hater. ;)

I watched GLEE'S first season's 14th episode last night, and I have to say that it's either "a guy thing" or the brilliance of the writing which causes this much discussion over that brilliantly played (by both participants) scene.  I'm with Matt on this one.  Plus the fact that Schuster's conversation with Flynn was mirrored later in Emma's conversation with Schuster.  This is going to prove to be a very interesting second half of the season.

Poor Idina Menzel, though.  RENT and ENCHANTED showed that she's not photogenic.  GLEE proved that there's not a photogenic portion of her face. . . .

Topic of the Day (so far):

In my CD player at work:  just arrived in the mail:  an autographed(!) copy of Maria Friedman's brand new "Maria Friedman Celebrates the Great British Songbook," then Fine and Dandy (the world premiere recording...from the library), Follies (the London cast recording...a replacement...the 1-CD release :() and A Gala Concert for Hal Prince (a recent Amazon purchase...used, but in very good condition).
Gerat finds. I love that "Fine and Dandy" recording.

Nothing better than a bag of sliders. And some of those crispy onion rings on the side. Will have to go when I visit Louisville soon.

It's a rave! :)

'Brassy Broads’ delivers plenty of laughs (http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/entertainment/theatre_arts/article/H-BRAS16_20100415-193809/337598/)

*Although, I don't think the set designer was going for "bordello-worthy".  However, since there are two numbers from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in the show, well... ;)

I'm glad to know that the "plenty of laughs" did not refer to your piano playing!

DR Laura, here's the photo

SO-O-O CREEPY!

Actually the clown did creep people out at the beginning of the meeting and we kept turning around to see if he was there.  He didn't say a word for several hours.  Then we took a break and he told us who he was and it all became quite funny. As the meeting opened the mayor said "Oh, it appears we have a clown in the gallery...well, at least you appear to be a clown, but if you aren't I don't mean to offend you"

Back from a delightful afternoon with DR DakotaCelt in Cincinnati.  We first went to the rare books library at UC, where she found resource that's very valuable to her genealogy research.  They would only make copies of 10 of the 40 or so pages that she wanted, so I may be making several trips down there throughout the summer.  We ruled out going to the zoo, because it was raining when we left the campus.  I drove her around Union Terminal and Music Hall and then we decided to have our late lunch/early dinner at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse.  After our meal, we drove to Eden Park and Mt. Adams so I could show her some of my favorite scenic vistas of the city.  There were some photos taken, but not with my camera (which I forgot); DR DakotaCelt will post them in a few days.

After that I took one of my new/old Joan Crawford movies recently acquired from the Warner Archive - THIS MODERN AGE. A silly story (Joan finds out her mother's a kept woman and is shamed into breaking her engagement to a well-to-do Massachusetts aristocrat), and Joan looks weird as a blonde. That faux/snooty accent always sounds so phony during this period of her career. Neil Hamilton as her love interest was very good.

In honor of the Indiana HHW viewing of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X I decided to watch some sci-fi tonight....THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD and THE TIME MACHINE.

Believe it or don't, I have never seen either movie.

I just finished THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, and my feeling is that it is way overrated. The style of having the actors talking over one another, I guess to make it seem realistic, is just annoying to me and therefore I just wanted the monster to eat up all of the actors.

I did enjoy seeing George Fenneman as one of the guys stationed up there in the arctic, and I must admit that I would certainly not have minded being stranded there with him.  8)

I am now about 10 minutes into THE TIME MACHINE. So far nothing has happened, but at least Rod Taylor is on the screen the whole time.

Yes it was wooly and wild and wild and wooly.

I have the photos to prove it, but will not be able to post them until after work tomorrow.....you will just have to wait.

I was wonderful meeting MR BK in the flesh, so to speak.....and also it was wonderful to meet DR CP - two nicer gentlemen it would be hard to find.

Of course once we got to the entertainment establishment after BRAINEX - both MR BK and DR CP were completely engulfed in lovely young ladies - now and I then I would see them, but mostly they were surrounded - sort of like Custer and the Indians.

I do not think there were any complaints.

Be that as it may.....I shall let MR BK tell the tale.....and come back in the morning - before work.  Oh well.
