Well, you've read the notes, you've eaten raisins in honor of the raisons, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they don't speak French, you know.

Ya know, I don't get Amazon's pricing methodology...
I've had the OCR of AMERICAN IDIOT in my shopping cart for about three weeks. It was originally priced at $12.99. On Monday, when I browsed to my cart, there was a notice that the price had increased to 14.99. I just went to my cart and now I see the price has decreased to 11.99.
I'm glad that I've been dragging my feet on placing this order...

And the word of the day is: RUTH!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I CRIED FOR YOU

Good morning, all! I was out of bed at 8:15 and the laundry is already underway. I've got to type a of a few cut scenes from THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER libretto that I've been postponing since Tuesday, so I wanted to get the laundry begun ASAP. Around 10:30 I will head off to Toyland, stopping at the post office on the way.
DR George, I haven't heard any of LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40 beyond the Overture, which is conducted by the mystery guest conductor who stepped in to clean up things; I know who it is, but i'm not revealing it. Yet. I think the Overture sounds god, but I have no urge to hear what was done to screw up something I had invested several years of my life. I'm sure PS Classics has doen a fine job with what they were given, but i woill be bitter over the people above me who let this project go to hell for a long time.
TOD:
DVD: THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY VIII, several operas, that documentary on HAIR
CD: Petula Clark, Jim Dale, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Jacques Brel, several live McGlinn performances

Today I have to work at the AAUW garage sale from noon-2. When I get home, we have to get Mary Linda's room ready for her weekend visit and I have to make deviled eggs for Richard to take to Lima tomorrow. They're having a "fix up the church" work day in preparation for the diocesan conference we're hosting in 2 weeks. Because I'm taking my mom to Indianapolis for a family 90th birthday party and then on to Illinois to visit my niece, I'm unable to attend the work day. I'm brokenhearted...

DR Cillaliz, i noticed in your post last night (about the strangeness of the new neighbor) that you mentioned it was considered weird to ask someone to take off their shoes before entering your house.
Do you mean wearing your shoes to walk inside someone's entire house. Or were you talking about someone not letting you inside the door with your shoes on.
I personally really do not like it when people wear shoes inside the house. It makes me cringe since there is so much dirt on your shoes. But I think it is quite common in a lot of the US to wear shoes from outside in the house (is that right?).

DtM - Found the whole Ruth-roof joke
Talking Dog Joke?
A man walks into a bar with a small dog under his arm and sits down at the counter, placing the dog on the stool next to him. The bartender says, "Sorry, pal. No dogs allowed."
The man says, "But this is a special dog -- he talks!"
"Yeah, right," says the bartender. "Now get out of here before I throw you out."
"No, wait," says the man. "I'll prove it." He turns to the dog and asks, "What do you normally find on top of a house?"
"Roof!" says the dog, wagging his tail.
"Listen, pal..." says the bartender.
"Wait," says the man, "I'll ask another question." He turns to the dog again and asks, "What's the opposite of soft?"
"Ruff!" exclaims the dog.
"Quit wasting my time and get out of here," says the bartender.
"One more chance," pleads the man. Turning to the dog again, he asks, "Who was the greatest baseball player that ever lived?"
"Ruth!" barked the dog.
"Okay, that's it!" says the bartender, and physically throws both man and dog out the door and onto the street.
Turning to the man, the dogs shrugs and says, "Maybe I should have said Joe Dimaggio?"

Is anybody else going to watch True Blood Season 3 (starting this sunday)?
The same time as the Tonys. :(
I need to check, hopefully my sister will be able to record True Blood for me again this season since i don't get HBO Canada.

Gay Talking Dog Joke
A man walks into a gay bar with a small dog under his arm and sits down at the counter, placing the dog on the stool next to him. The bartender says, "Sorry, pal. No straight dogs allowed."
The man says, "But this is a gay dog!"
"Yeah, right," says the bartender. "Now get out of here before I throw you out."
"No, wait," says the man. "I'll prove it." He turns to the dog and asks, "Where is the fiddler during the TRADITION number?"
"Roof!" says the dog, wagging his tail.
"Listen, pal..." says the bartender.
"Wait," says the man, "I'll ask another question." He turns to the dog and asks, "What's the name of Tony's best best friend, womb to tomb?"
"Riff!" exclaims the dog.
"Quit wasting my time and get out of here," says the bartender.
"One more chance," pleads the man. Turning to the dog again, he asks, "Who was the greatest character Roz Russell ever played?"
"Ruth!" barked the dog.
"Okay, that's it!" says the bartender, and physically throws both man and dog out the door and onto the street.
Turning to the man, the dogs shrugs and says, "Maybe I should have said Madame Rose?"

The bartender says, "A Helen Keller? I never heard of that drink. What's in it?"
And the blind man says, "Scotch and waaaaaah."

As "New Directions" is the "star" of "Glee" in terms of subject matter, and as the season was pointing toward a regionals victory, and because so much was at stake, I said I didn't think they deserved to win...based on the performance they gave. Con Ed. With an emphasis on the former. I really don't like utility companies. The DWP has been working on a nearby street - a popular street - putting in new pipes that will purportedly make the tap water quality better - right. This job was given the okay - nine months. It has now been three years. And they are not only not finished, trying to drive on that street is now completely impossible.
-
I'm up because of hammering again - the entire week we've had hammering. It lasts from approximately eight o'clock until eight-twenty - in other words, just long enough to wake everyone nearby. Then they stop. If it happens tomorrow, up I will get and I will find the perpetrator and see what's going on.

New Tony Award Gets (Unofficial) Theme Song
By DAVE ITZKOFF
After ArtsBeat reported on Thursday that the Tony Award statuette was getting a larger, heavier redesign for Sunday night’s ceremony, at least one reader was inspired with more than just wistful yearnings for the past.
A commenter who gave his name only as Freddie wrote an entire song parody in honor of the new trophy, set to the tune of “Mama I’m a Big Girl Now” from “Hairspray.”
A sample verse:
Compared to what they’re giving at the Golden Globes
The Tony looked like something to hang from your lobes
So say, well lord have mercy, oy gevalt, and ow
‘Cause Tony is a big girl now!
The complete lyrics by Freddie can be found here.

Wednesday we enjoyed a day of wine tasting in the Applegate Valley area. It was a pretty day for a drive & Sherlock could go with us. The first place we stopped at was a small winery with a very nice owner who invited Sherlock into the vineyards to play with his dog. The dog's job was to chase away all unwanted animals & rodents who ventured inside the fence. Visiting dogs were welcome. At our last stop for the day we met a couple who had been to the first winery & had heard all about our wonderful dog. :)

Yesterday we went hiking and for a walk around town. In the evening we went back to town for dinner and a play. We saw a marvelous production of PRIDE & PREJUDICE. The female lead was terrific and the staging wonderful. DR JRand-ready for a shock? The director was Abby.
-
Keith and I are taking it easy today. We hiked Sherlock & then did a few enjoyable errands in town with him. The sheets have been washed & the bed made, the rooms dusted & cleaned & the 2nd load of towels are in the washer. I'm glad I had planned to do this today because I'm sorry to say our guests did not leave their bedroom & bathroom very neat. In fact they didn't even ask if I wanted the bedding stripped, and with my shoulder that would have been very nice.
-
I have accomplished a lot today, and now I'm ready for bed.
Tomorrow the Archive of Contemporary Music is having its summer sale and I believe I will wander down and see what they are selling. It could be fun.
The jerk neighbor above me may be from Canada but the ass sure doesn't remove his 200-lb shoes when he clomps into his apartment and stomps about after midnight. that is all.
-
And the big news Post-wise: I was officially notified today that I will be furloughed one day a month, ten out of the next twelve months. The first furlough day is July 12.
That's crap. :-\
My sister also works for the state. She's mentioned the possibility of furloughs, but I don't know if/when they start for her.

I think it's pathetic that this country after years of feeding us propaganda on its power and wealth is up to its ass in debt and poor as a third-world nation.

:) Read slowly ;)
Is it common for people in Canada to take their shoes off before entering a home? More & more people are asking for a preference, or taking their shoes off if they are dirty.
Is there some reason I should read this slowly? Is it like playing a record backwards? Will there be a secret message? ;)

Just think that in honor of my birthday they are giving you the day off

The judicial system in Iowa has been doing furloughs for a year now

We had a terrible storm at about 3:30 AM. The winds were 80 miles per hour and there was torrential rain. some think there may have been a tornado. I didn't have too much damage, just a few tree limbs down, but around town there are SOOO many trees down, on houses, on cars, in the street. It was really amazing
-
Sounds like one of our microbursts.
-
It was sort of like a microburst. There are photos of some of the damage at www.siouxcityjournal.com I had been up late reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and had just settled in to go to sleep when the weather radio started going off. So, I got up and went to the main floor. I didn't want to be upstairs if a tree hit the house. It wasn't past here until after 3:30 AM so I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Forecast tonight....thunderstorms after midnight...possibly severe. Oh Joy
-
I'm glad you and the house came through the storm okay!
-
We did fine. The girls stayed right next to me, which I'm glad about. We didn't have to go to the basement but I want to be able to find them if we need to in the future
-
I'm watching Afghan Star. Reading subtitles while I work on the computer. It's an interesting documentary.
-
One of the contestants got death threats because not only did she show her hair, she danced...well moved back and forth.
-
You can't find a block in town that doesn't have trees or limbs down. There are piles of trees and limbs everywhere. Of course you have to get rid of them yourself. Luckily mine were small enough to break down and put out for regular pickup
-
TOD: I've been listening to IN THE HEIGHTS for 2 days. I want to see it again

Thats good news.

Page 5 - at least for the moment it's all about me!
-
Thanks George, and thanks for breaking up all the cilla posts with a george post!

A friend gave me a bunch of cherry tomato plants. I now have 7 planted. If they all grow and produce I will have cherry tomatoes out the wazoo
-
I can't believe I'm just planting things. Think I'll see if any of the stores still have any vegetable plants. I did till up the rest of the garden space, so I have room to plant. I'll have to see what's out there. I could probably plant some beans, they grow pretty fast
-
Time to get off the computer for awhile
-
I am packing for my little trip to Illinois, watching the Big Ten Network news about Nebraska joining the conference, and waiting for Mary Linda to arrive. She should be here in a couple of hours.
-

It's nice when they don't hide under the bed or someplace difficult to reach them.

DR Jane, 100 pages down, 450 pages to go!

I can't read slowly. I have 3 other books here that I really want to read. And 2 more at the library waiting. Although for some i have 6 weeks. I've given myself till tuesday to finish.
Yes it is common for people to take off their shoes. I would never go into someone else's house and track my dirty shoes all over their house.

GLEE SPOILER
Possible "Glee" Spoilage for anyone who hasn't seen the episode:
DR Cillaliz: Regarding my comments yesterday about "Glee", I respectfully disagree with the notion that I revealed anything regarding plot.
I reacted to the show and the performance of "New Directions". Nothing more.
My comment was not at all black-and-white in context for anyone who hadn't watched the show. As "New Directions" is the "star" of "Glee" in terms of subject matter, and as the season was pointing toward a regionals victory, and because so much was at stake, I said I didn't think they deserved to win...based on the performance they gave. I didn't say they didn't win, and I didn't say anyone else won. Only someone who had seen the show could have associated my comment with what actually happened.
End Possible Spoilage
Hmmm, I didn't see the show & from reading your post I figured they had won & didn't deserve to. No need to say if my comment means you needed a spoiler or not, personally I felt it did. In this case it didn't matter. After reading your comments, and the fact Keith is beyond tired with the show, I'm taking it off of our DVR.
I think it needed the word spoiler. Although the word glee came way before the spoiler stuff. So it would have been easy to stop reading right away. Since i saw the episode in question i thought it was a spoiler. But obviously in completely the opposite way of anyone who hadn't watched.

When I move to Canada, I guess I won't be doing any socializing; because there is no way I am taking off my shoes to enter someone's home.
Well you can enter the house. You just have to take off your shoes once you get inside the door.
-
A propos the TOD, I'm going to finish watching Carol Reed's TRAPEZE (on the dvr) with Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster and a very homoerotic subtext.

Tuesday isn't too fast.
I'll try to remember that about shoes if I ever visit anyone in Canada :)

Thanks, JohnG.

Thanks, Ben.
-
DR FJL - Congratulations on your appearance in the NY Times!
-
I just finished watching THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HENRY VIII, which I'd never seen. Charles Laughton is really amazing and I loved Elsa Lanchester as Anne of Cleves. Binnie Barnes as Catherine Howard looked far too old for the teenage idiot, but merle Oberon was a beautifu Anne Boleyn.
Time for bed.
-
Not sure I'm gonna be able to stay awake for Mary Linda's arrival...
'night!
-
I just read THIS (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20100527/US.The.Big.Walk/) article about this guy who's walking across the country for no other reason than just because. There's a video clip of an interview with him. :)

Finished listening to the remix and will be talking to the engineer in a couple of hours to do some tiny little fixes. Otherwise it sounds really good. I did a little A/B with the original LP mix - the instrument placement is a bit different to ours, so that's fun to have switched it up a bit. One thing they did that was a little weird was put the strings on the right - we have them on the left where strings usually are.

I got a little missive in the mail today that could cause Kritzerland a good deal of trouble - all thanks to that pathetic individual who lives to cause harm to other labels than his own. I have to have a conversation with someone on Monday and that will tell me how it will play out - I'm sure it will be fine, but boy is it annoying, and boy could it cause harm depending on which way it all goes - harm being monetary harm. We'll survive but this cretin needs to burn in hell for stirring up trouble - unnecessary trouble.
-
Tommy hasn't bounced back as quickly as the others. I am glad to see he is finally eating. I think he'll be ok by morning.

Exactly! I give them treats to get them to stay with me.
-
Congrats on the Times, FJL!

I thought it was Chow
i once listened to a book on CD in which the reader pronounced ciao as "kai-oo" throughout. I didn't know what he was saying for the first couple of CDs.

How do you feel about this?
If it keeps some of my fellow employees from being laid off; I can live with it. Besides, I like Top Ramen.
Great attitude. I wish more businesses would use the model. But then many of those same businesses are likely to expect the same 40 hours of work whether they pay you for it or not. At least that's my experience with newspapers.
-
Page Six Top Ramen dance!

Thanks, Ginny and Cilla

Vibes for a peaceful end for this unnecessary trouble.

Vibes indeed.
I'm just sitting here like a piece of whitefish, listening to music from Kurosawa's The Bad Sleep Well.
