Howard Shore’s score is long and loud and I’d be hard-pressed to recall a single theme in it.
That's what makes horse racing, bk!
I find each of LORD OF THE RINGS' film scores to be one great achievement after another with very memorable themes for persons, places and things such as The Shire, Isingard, The Ring, Gollum, the returning king, the steward, the gray ships, prayers and fulfillments. I admire how Howard Shore takes his Shire theme and weaves it in and out of all three films, growing darker and bit more dissonant with each installment.
Of the 'songs' written for the films, only Enya's "May it Be" and Annie Lennox' "Into the West" left lasing impressions on me.
I've seen THE LORD OF THE RINGS SYMPHONY live twice, once with Howard Shore conducting (Sissel was the featured vocalist) and again with John Macueri conducting (Billy Boyd, the films' Pippin was featured). Your personal friend Susan Egan has also performed with this touring symphony.
but I certainly wouldn’t put them anywhere near my top films of all time list.
Once again, horse racing! After seeing each of the films theatrically, each one entered a spot in my top ten film favorites.
