DR George re: your question from last night.

The library system is computerized, except for requests for new books.  For books that are in the system already I am fine as I can do that from home.

The reason my holds are being dropped is because they keep losing my slips of paper.  I suspect that it happens to others as well but they are too shy to say anything. And they are probably not sure that they actually made the request. So they probably just put themselves at the end of the line.

Also, DR George, here the books only go in the system when the library actually gets them. I know some libraries have their books in the system as soon as they are ordered.

If the books went into the system as soon as they were ordered I would be able to see if there was a problem in advance. As it is now I can only see there is a problem once the books have already gone out to people.

DR Jane vibes for your shoulder. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

RE: my shoulder. I have no idea why it was even hurting (can't remember doing anything to it). But I am finally able to swim with very minimal pain (can do 80% of laps front crawl).

I suspect the reason it keeps happening to you is that you request them so far in advance of the book being available  6 months is a long time to keep track of a little piece of paper in a busy library

Yep that is true. Although it goes into the same file, so really it shouldn't make a difference if it is there for 1 month or 6 months.

You'd think that the mean lady would realize how stupid the system is and blame her system instead of blaming me. I don't think it's odd either that they lose so many slips (all things considered).

DR Jennifer - Something tells me that you're not the only person who's reservation slips get lost. You just happen to be the only one at the library at the times that you are there who has to deal with a lost slip. In any case...

I would still report the reference librarian. Someone there should know just how non-service-oriented she is. -Although, I highly suspect, that they already do.

Well the lady should be informed of all lost slips ... so I actually don't think people are reporting them. I really think i'm the only one who is saying anything.

And I don't think that anyone knows that this lady is not being nice. She can be nice and last week when I was there she went crazy helping someone else. And she was actually fairly nice to me last week also. It seems to be that she is only mean when she gets defensive because I go to her about a problem.

TOD:

Movies: The Court Jester. I would like to see "Me and the Colonel" but I've never been able to get my hands on a copy.

Songs: "Let's Not Talk About Love" and "Farming" from "Let's Face It." The latter includes a great Cole Porter bit:

Don't inquire of Georgie Raft
Why his cow has never calfed.
Georgie's bull is beautiful
But he's gay.

Whew!  You can't buy a can of paint off the shelf anymore - you give the man - if you can find him - your color chip and he will mix it for you.

NOW - I know this is NOT NEWS to the educated hoi polloi here at HHW.....but I haven't bought paint since the 20th Century, so I really didn't know that.

Yup, all paint needs to be mixed these days. I guess they don't have room on the shelves to hold any premixed.

I have returned from 22nd Street. I cannot see well since my eyes are dilated from the eyedrops and I am not happy with the brightness of the day. Everything visually is fine and I got a clean bill of health from my body check from the dermatologist for lesions, melanomas, etc.

I have to call the pharmacy and refill my meds, which I can pck up tomorrow, and write my rent check, which is three weeks late.

DR Jose, good news about your friend!

I like the Cole Porter sung by Mr Kaye that goes:

Let's talk of Lamarr, that Hedy so fair;
Why does she let Joan Bennett wear all her old hair?
