Soooo tired - lack of sleep last night is catching up with me.  Just what up is doing with me is another story.

I also had a rather yummilicious and large Mexican lunch at Casa Vega.

And I'm happy to report that our producer is on board.

And now - Dino at the piano.

Can you imagine Dino googling himself?  There will be 10,000 entries all leading to haineshisway.com.

Dear Ron P.,

When my Mimi cat disappeared from my parents' house, I was living in Florida, and we never found her body and that thought  still hurts!
It might seem foolish to some but losing a pet is like losing a dear relative or friend.
It's ok to feel sad!

So true.

My book group guests will be here in about half an hour, so I'll sign off now.  We're watching the Reese Witherspoon Vanity Fair.  Some might actually have read the book, but I just couldn't get through it.

LOL I read the book but couldn't get through the movie.

At this point I’m speed lurking (means I miss way too much) more than anything.

During the next week I have a kitchen, laundry room and other areas to pack up, workman to line up and a trip to prepare for.  The house sitters are coming tomorrow to discuss what needs doing while we are gone.  Wish I could have them pack for me.

If anyone really wants to tell me something don’t chance my reading a post.  I will be reading my email though. :)

I saw the nominee ceremony tonight and the glee with which the new HOH was announcing them. I take it these are agreeable to you BB6 fans?

(I was waiting for CSI to come on.)

I spent the 8-9 hour watching VERONICA MARS off the DVR which I recorded from UPN on Wednesday night.

Yep, CBS' experiment with VERONICA MARS converted me. Got me hooked on the show, so I wondered if I'd be able to follow this week's episode off UPN. Yep, I could, and I greatly enjoyed it. I now have a new mystery show to enjoy. Of course, I am not happy that it's going to be coming on opposite LOST this coming season, but that's the great thing about DVRs, and mine will be getting PLENTY of use.

After CSI tonight, I finished SECONDS. Even though I knew what was going to happen, the ending as Rock Hudson is being wheeled on the gurney still gives me shudders.

I did not remember so much female frontal nudity in the grape stomping/orgy sequence. That took me a bit by surprise.

Have no clue at this point what DVD I'll be pulling out for tomorrow. I'm leaning toward McMILLIAN AND WIFE but I might not be quite ready to do another boxed series set right away.

There are shots in the orgy sequence which were not in the original cut of the film as played in 1968 (I think that's the right year).  Frankenheimer talks about that in his commentary (they did keep his commentary from the laser, didn't they?).

1966. Yes, they did keep the commentary, but I didn't listen to it this first time seeing the DVD. I never had the laserdisc.

The MPAA had lost a lot of power by 1966 (they allowed all the language in VIRGINIA WOOLF that same year), but I can't believe they would have ever approved of those crotch shots. The film carries an R-rating now on the packaging strictly for the nudity (as it says on the packaging).

According to Maltin's book, the video print is the European version which featured more than a minute of footage not in the US release. Had to be in that orgy sequence.

DR Tom et al, I hope you enjoy SUNSET BLVD. I saw it in NYC with Betty Buckley which would have been enough for my lifetime, but a friend gave me her ticket to the national tour with Petula Clark, so I did see it with her, too. I never want to see it again.

DR Tom, did you see it when Hugh Jackman played Joe?

I saw Buckley in London and yes I saw Mr Jackman here in OZ. I'm hoping this staged concert version will undo some of the damage of the original productions.

Just spoke with OzDerek who says he is strong enough to cope with the show tonight.  He's been sleeping most of the week and he goes back into hospital for yet more testing etc Monday and probably Tuesday.

Jackman was great as Joe. Melbourne had already fallen in love with him as Gaston in B & B.

In any musical, I can't imagine Jackman doing any wrong. His performance in THE BOY FROM OZ will live long in my memory.

TCB: Would you please speak to my employer and tell them about inflation? They seemed to have missed the memo.

I have the Aussie cast recording of BATB w/Mr. Jackman as Gaston. It's fascinating to hear international recordings to listen for the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) differences. But, I'm a nerd like that.

I ordered a pizza tonight from the Hut of Pizza. I ordered a thin crust. I GOT a handtossed. I was not happy.

There's a Christmas episode of Will & Grace on right now. It makes me excited for winter. And I've decided what I'm getting the Greek for Christmas - surprise tickets to a Broadway show for which the Greek and I share a huge interest. Ah, unrequited romance...

Good Evening!

Back from opening night.

And it was a beautiful opening night.  Everything just seemed to click - the performances, the technical aspects... even the weather agreed with us.  *Goodrich has no A/C, and tonight the temps were in the upper 60s.  Moments that hadn't been working, worked tonight.  Scenes landed.  Songs buttoned.  It really was a very good night.

*Yes, there is a "big sigh" of relief in this post.  The past couple days and nights of rehearsals have been going well, but not well enough.  A lot of work was done in the past three days.  A lot.  It's so nice to know that it all paid off.  And just in time too.

Now we just have to repeat it two more times...

;)

I ended up staying for the second piece, I Have Loved Strangers.  The play was written by Anne Washburn, and like Triangle it was basically written this summer here at Williamstown as part of the leapFROG program.  The Act One Company of actors became the guinea pigs, of sorts, for both pieces - a play and a musical.

I Have Loved Strangers draws some of it's material from the Book of Jeremiah in the Bible.  A truly haunting piece.  I'm still digesting it, thinking it through.  I'm not even sure how to describe it.  I want to say Expressionistic, maybe even with tinges of The Absurd...  I just really don't have the vocabulary right now.

However, what amazed me most about the piece was the fact that the same troupe of actors who are in Triangle are also in I Have Loved Strangers - the Act One Company.  Not only did they rehearse both shows at the same time, but they also presented both shows in the same evening.  Back to back.  Amazing work.  All those lines.  The completely different styles of each piece.  The physical demands of each piece.  WOW!

And one "notable" happened to be in attendance tonight, Marge Champion.  Yes, Gower Champion's widow.  However, she later married the director, Boris Sagal, and and after his death, she established a directing fellowship in his name here at WTF.  (Boris Sagal is also the father of actress/singer, Katey Sagal.)

Johanna McKeon, who directed I Have Loved Strangers is the Boris Sagal Fellow this year.

I have the Hugh Jackman recording...as well as the Japanes cast recording.  I got it in London (the one time that I went).  It's very interesting to hear those songs sung in Japanese.  Very good performers all around, but I know the show, so I know what they're all singing, which helps. :)
