Well, you've read the notes, the notes were way back, and now it is time for you to post until the way back cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TUTTI!
-
First post after BK.
-
Personally, I have never eaten peanuts while taking a hot shower. However, I have nibbled cashews while in the sauna.
-
First post after TCB!
-
Last post after George. Good night.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Topic of the Day:
The Night of the Hunter
-
Good morning
-
I fell asleep over the iPad last night while attempting to catchup
-
Thank you Jack, for posting a picture of my picture and thank us all for the kind words
-
There was no intention of having a face appear but nearly everyone who has seen the picture has commented on it, and now I see it too
-
I woke up suddenly this morning and was preparing to jump in the shower when it occurred to me that it was Saturday and I have no commitments other than a few errands
-
I think I shall go back to bed now
-
Laters!!!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I wish I could go back to bed but I have things to do before I settle back in with my taxes.
-
I went to bed early last night, so if there was somebody who wished me a later "Happy Birthday," Thank you.
-
T.O.D.
I've always been a fan of Robert Mitchum. In fact, I used to do publicity for his son, Christopher.
Among my favorites:
THE ENEMY BELOW
THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER
OUT OF THE PAST
CROSSFIRE
THE LONGEST DAY
CAPE FEAR (1)
THE YAZUKA
HEAVEN KNOWS, MR ALLISON
THE GRASS IN GREENER (Not really, but I did the Mitchum role in a community production back in the early 1960s.)
-
Good morning, all.

TOD:
Farewell, My Lovely

Good Morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
And a blessed morning it is, because our fined furred friends let me sleep in again today ... all the way to nine o’clock Eastern. It was a damned good sleep, and the dreams seem to have been decent but they haven’t broken through the surface yet.
-
I don’t remember any specific occasions on which I went to Sizzler, but I’m positive that the only times I did were in the ‘70s and ‘80s. It was probably only a handful of times all told. I’d say it amounted to a couple of dinners and a couple of office lunches. It was a phenomenon then, and the very mention of it conjures other memories of those two decades.
What I’m trying to remember (hmm, catchy...) is where they were then. Picturing the locations will help to bring more of it back. I’m still amazed that there are not only a few of them still around, but that they’re apparently still so similar to those of olde. Great catch, BK.
-
Well, I just had two (count ‘em) artificial Saturdays in a row, and now I’ve got a real Saturday and a real Sunday. Whatever will I do with them?
-
Like TCB and the MAMMA MIA, I was seriously tempted to run up and see ANYTHING GOES again, so it’s probably just as well that the two matinees were already sold out as of last night — I bet tonight will be, as well, if it isn’t by now — because I do need to spend time on other pursuits. But it was a rare pleasure. This was a college production, and it was class and style and incredible skill all the way.
-
OK, I get why Bruce did not notice, or skipped, photos of triplets on his Facebook page.
Funny is that he did not notice photos of Swishy Sarah when the babies were inside of her.
Do you have any idea how BIG the belly of a woman carrying triplets is ;D
-
Since Swishy never used her last name here I will pm it. Those who new her please do send those babies some good vibes.
-
I have just indulged in the purchase of a first row balcony seat for the March 24th matinee of Grand Hotel at City Center. Orchestra and Grand Tier are both completely sold out. Are any othe DRs planning to attend this performance?
-
I have also treated myself to a ticket for the March 8th Fathom showing of Hamlet
-
And I found page 2
-
I'm up, I'm up - four hours of sleep.
-
There were Sizzlers in Sherman Oaks, Encino, still one on Laurel Canyon near Victory, Burbank (Hollywood Way, I think - still there), Sherman Way near the Van Nuys airport (that was the one we went to most in the 70s) and of course all over LA proper.
-
Good morning.
-
Still one on Highland, Western, Vermont, Los Feliz, and Culver City.

I'll be around. Can we step out for a nosh after? The orchestra reading is this Tuesday and I have yo miss the morning session because of another epidural.
-
Today I was accompanied by Mae-Ling Goldstein -- not Wae-Ling - to get the vegetable box. She turned vegetarian the day we all were making a stuffed turkey for Thanksgiving several years ago. She thought pulling the giblets out of the turkey was DISGUSTING. Wae-Ling thought it was the best part about Thanksgiving.
-
I don't see Mae-Ling very often, so I enjoyed her company. I think she tolerated mine. We got 30 zucchinis, a LOT of various kinds of tomatoes, and bell peppers. She got to choose as much as she wanted out of the batch.
-
Then we went to Wal-Mart, and I bought her a zoodle maker, a cheese grater, and a chopper thing. Her dad won't let her use the food processor I gave her for Christmas, because he doesn't want to have to wash it.
-
I made several posts out of that story.

I would love that. I can make reservations for us at Lily's if you'd like.
-
When I got home, I made a scrambled egg with zucchini planks, sliced yellow bell peppers, salt and pepper.
-
I made several posts out of that story.
Well done!
-
What is a zoodle maker?
-
I made several posts out of that story.
And a nice story it was. I like that she is a vegetarian :)

There used to be Sizzler right next to our church. When I was a kid we would go there occassionally for special occassions

It's a Boston Market now

They are nice to have when you need them, but I agree they are a pain to wash. Over the years I used mine less and less.
-
I loved the fried bread......it was probably 800 calories, but I was a kid and skinny as a rail with a functioning thyroid so I would eat as many pieces as I was allowed
-
I highly suspect Mae-Ling enjoyed her alone time with DR Laura.
-
It makes thin ribbons out of zucchini.

It is supposed to trick your kids into thinking they are eating spaghetti instead of squash. As if.
-
I use my food processor for making hummus a lot. Also pie dough and other doughy things that I can mix up in there. I used it for the cake pops.
-
I made several posts out of that story.
And a nice story it was. I like that she is a vegetarian :)
I remember when you met the young Vixter ( was it 10, 12 years ago?!) and tried to talk to her about bring a vegetarian. You asked her if she liked animals and in all seriousness she answered, "yes, I like the way they taste"
-
My husband always wants to stop at Sizzler whenever we happen to find one on our travels. He never remembers how bad the steak is.

that's cool. Looks like something I would buy after seeing it demoed in Costcos.

I made spaghetti squash last week. Vuxdad wanted to know why I was serving packing material
-
Ooh page 3.
-
I am quite the page finder today
-
I use run and do my errands before the rains begin again.

Laters
-
Wae and Mae Ling - there's a book here.
-
I, too, am a vegetarian, except when I eat meat.
-
Speaking of eating meat, perhaps I'll go have a light breakfast. Of course, I could avoid the bacon and just have eggs and sausage - oh, wait - I could have eggs and eggs and toast. I could. I really could.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! It's another rainy day here in SW Ohio, but Richard and I have a date tonight. We're going to dinner at Gracie's (http://www.graciesmiddletown.com/) and then to see Middletown Lyric Theatre's "My Name is Asher Lev."
-
I was thinking of Jerry's of course, but I forget I've got Corky's, which is closer.
-
These decisions are very difficult.
-
Well, I need to take the six pounds of jalapenos next door. Bye.

Not a zucchini fan here. I am not sure that would work for me.

I don't make hummus anymore, or pie dough, or a lot of things.

Was that before or after we walked through the Chinese (?) market with the dead animals?

I am guessing you remind him and you don't stop.

Sounds about right.

The book is a favorite of Richard's. I read it a long time ago, but he recently re-read it. I had him give me a plot summary this morning. I'm a little skeptical about its treatment by our local thespians, but we'll see.
Film at 11.

YES! Saturday matinee. Kristi & Nathan will be with me. They aren't available to ask right now, but I think a get-together around some food would be a fine thing.

Egg-zactly.

I[m perfectly happy to step down to the coffee shop on Sixth Avenue where we went after THE NEW YORKERS, but I'll let you decide.
-
My taxes are almost finished. I will finish up tomorrow. Now I want to play with the kids.
-
I Don't Make Hummus Anymore - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Ended up at Corky's - good hash browns, which Jerry doesn't do correctly, but other than that, Jerry's wins.
-
And it was an all vegetarian breakfast save for the bacon.
-
NOW I have ordered the new book. Thanks to the sharp eye of MR BK.
-
Sharp Eye - that's the title of my next novel, a story of hummus.
-
Page three? Really?
-
I'm so tempted to be a bad boy right now, but I shall be a good boy for the time being, oh, yes, I shall be a good boy for the time being. How long the time being is I know not. Vague, perhaps. Enigmatic, perhaps. Understandable, absolutely.

Page four? Really?

Meatloaf for dinner tonight

BK....did I mention I received the Sherman book and I love it?!

Thank you for arranging that

And I listened to Levi several times all the way through in the car and I love that too

I saw that one, Elmore. The kitten should go fast.

I am trying to use up a huge bag of Seville oranges. They are very sour, so can't be eaten like regular oranges. I am making little orange loaves. But they are taking quite a lot of sugar. I will put them in the freezer and pull them out when the church has the next potluck.

They're good in margaritas.

Last time I had jury duty, Kerry had it too. We had lunch together that day.

If it's the play version by Aaron Posner, I'd seen that at the Arden Theater in Philadelphia. Really excellent telling of the story.

I guess I must have somehow hit the "international" order tab for GEE (though I don't recall that), and now I'm having trouble getting the international shipping charges out of my cart. I will be trying again tomorrow.

The wink was for my comment, not the yuck face ;D

DR VIXMOM a class action lawsuit is a great idea. Do you know a good no nonsense lawyer we can call?
-
I think we should give MR BK permission to be bad....
I almost wrote persimmons.....

I thought you used limes in margaritas.
You can use lots o' citrus in margaritas. And sorry, I was thinking of blood oranges, not Sevilles. Marmalade might be good.

If we're talking coffee shops, I and my cohorts are partial to the one down the block in the opposite direction, at the corner of the Wellington Hotel. Lily's is wonderful, but I'm also thinking in terms of not straying so far in the opposite direction from Grand Central, because we're taking the train in that day.

I just made my own Vegetarian Burger*, and it was delicious.
*93% lean instead of my usual 85%, so less animal in this one.

Can't wait for the film at 11!

What day is this?
-
The few Sizzlers I ate at would almost certainly have been in the Hollywood and west-of-Hollywood regions. I'm thinking West L.A. and perhaps one out in Venice. Maybe I'll try to find a list of all the locations that ever were.

I've been working on Annabelle-Thatch diaries. Midsomer Murders returns to PBS at 8:00 tonight, and I am ready for it.

Keith said we ate at Sizzler's. I remember something like it with a different name, not that my memory is good about this. I know I didn't go with my parent's. Keith mentioned the salad bar.
-
Last time I had jury duty, Kerry had it too. We had lunch together that day.
It's terrible he's not here to share lunch with you again

I have just indulged in the purchase of a first row balcony seat for the March 24th matinee of Grand Hotel at City Center. Orchestra and Grand Tier are both completely sold out. Are any othe DRs planning to attend this performance?
I'll be around. Can we step out for a nosh after? The orchestra reading is this Tuesday and I have yo miss the morning session because of another epidural.
I would love that. I can make reservations for us at Lily's if you'd like.
I[m perfectly happy to step down to the coffee shop on Sixth Avenue where we went after THE NEW YORKERS, but I'll let you decide.
Have you ever been to Lily's? I know you missed our New Yorkers brunch. The prices are comparable and it's really beautiful
I will go with the majority vote

My meatloaf came out very well
-
If I do say so myself

And I did

Vixdad concurs

That darn miaid never showed ...

-
That's done

Wait! I'm on my way!
-
My family never lived where there were Sizzlers, but we were a Ponderosa and Bonanza bunch way back when. I was going to say those were an occasional Sunday thing, but most of the Sunday things, if we went out, were the cafeterias.
-
I just listened to some of the Eileen Rodgers & Hal Linden Anything Goes cast album, and the Mary Martin one. How totally strange these arrangements seem now, once one has crash-learned and binged on the Beaumont version.
-
Watched two motion pictures so far, one of them quite good.
-
Our internet was down for a bit. Keith finally found the source, Xfinity was down for about 20 minutes.
-
My favorite Mitchum film is Rachel and the Stranger, but then I love the movie.
I completely disliked him in The Winds of War and had been lukewarm on him since The Grass is Greener.
-
I can't think of any Robert Mitchum movies
-
Can't wait for the film at 11!
Wait no longer, DR ChasSmith! The play was performed without an intermission, so we were home before 10. Gracie’s was delightful and the food was very good. Richard had the pork chop and I had a Caesar salad topped with 2 slabs of grilled salmon. We shared a bottle of Reisling and the apple crisp for our free dessert.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! It's another rainy day here in SW Ohio, but Richard and I have a date tonight. We're going to dinner at Gracie's (http://www.graciesmiddletown.com/) and then to see Middletown Lyric Theatre's "My Name is Asher Lev."
If it's the play version by Aaron Posner, I'd seen that at the Arden Theater in Philadelphia. Really excellent telling of the story.
It is, indeed, Aaron Posner’s version and MLT did a good job with it. Richard thought it was very true to the book.

Yeah, but Eileen Rodgers gives that recording a life that is just irresistible.
-
Watching the beginning of Limelight. I have never seen it before. Chaplin is intriguing.
-
I could always watch Mitchum in absolutely anything, but favorites would include:
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER
FAREWELL, MY LOVELY
CAPE FEAR
THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE
and probably RYAN'S DAUGHTER -- if I ever got around to watching it (!)
Also, I always regretted having never watched THE WINDS OF WAR and WAR AND REMEMBRANCE when the rest of the world was tuned in.

Oh good 😊

Did you read the books? I loved them and was very upset at much of the casting for the series.
-
One of my favorite Mitchum films is The Last Time I Saw Archie. Never released in any format on home video -
-
I don't remember seeing this one.
-
Has anyone read "Defending Jacob"? I just finished reading it for my book discussion group.
-
Page seven? Really?
-
Good evening.
-
I’m sorry to be late. Nicky fell asleep between me and my iPad.

I love the Eileen Rodgers version of ANYTHING GOES.
-
Today was a rather nothing day.
-
Back in 1975, I used to love MATCH GAME ‘75. I thought it was so witty and so naughty. Watching it again on Netflix, it was really pretty awful.
-
I watched a Nova program about the Kennedy assassination. They decided that Lee dit it alone, so, of course, I disliked the program.
-
I am half-way through a book that Sharry gave me. We both thought it was about the assassination itself, but it really is about the Warren Commission. It is 600+ pages.
-
I went out in search of Girl Scout cookies today. They were nowhere to be found, so maybe the sale starts in March.
-
I went to the G.S. website. It told me to input my zip code and it would tell me where to find the cookies. Every time i entered the zip code it would take me back to the exact same page. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
-
Apparently the start date for the cookie sale this year is a state secret. I blame Trump.
-
I wonder if TRump’s daughters ever sold Girl Scout cookies?
-

The scouts were selling them last weekend in front of the market. Maybe you can find them tomorrow. My friend in Portland is selling them. I can send you some.
I remember when DR Vixmom would mail orders of cookies.
-
Tomorrow is shedding day. I have a large stack of
love letters old bills that I need to dispose of before they take over the entire office.
-
While eating a Girl Scout cookie my friend's 3 year old said "It is better than eating salad".
-
Never go to the grocery store when you are hungry! Today I bought a giant size bag of pizza rolls. I like pizza rolls, but I seldom eat them.
-
It is lucky that my scooter has a very small basket, or who knows what I might have purchased.
-

I read that as sledding at first and was confused.
-
Ice cream? Donuts? Cheesecakes?
-
Yes, going to the market while hungry is very dangerous.

LOL! I would pay money for a video of me doing that.
-
Sometimes I get a banana to eat on the way home, better than donuts.
-
'night Tom
-
I think I will have pizza rolls for lunch tomorrow.
-
One more post.

-
Good night, Jane.
-
I'm home and watching TV and ketchuping on today's eight pages of posts!
-
I think I will be glad when the Olympics are finished tomorrow. There are just too many skiing events, and I really can’t tell one from another.
-
Where have you been??
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Hi, George.
-
I resisted the strong urge to go back and see MAMMA MIA again tonight.
-
Where have you been??
Well, I woke up and just hung out in bed, working on some things on my computer. In the afternoon, I went to the Olympia PFLAG board meeting with my sister and niece. Then I went with my friend Margo to see the Olympia School District's staff (mostly) production of Hello, Dolly! After the show (it was pretty good for a bunch of school employees), we went to El Sarape for dinner. Now, I'm home.
-
Instead I a listening to the Original Cast Recording.
-
Does El Sarape have good Chinese food?
