Well, you've read the notes, you know the various and sundried scoops, and now it is time for you to post until the fresh-as-a-daisy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VILIFY!
-
BK, yesterday you wrote,
Massage is finished and I feel marvy. Afterwards, Marina, a Russian, translated that Russian Nudie Musical review - it's really quite lovely. Can someone visit that website and tell me if they have a place to e-mail the people - I can write Sergei a note and she'll put it into Russian and send it to him.
I don't know if anyone has already let you know, but at the bottom of the page is an e-mail address, serega_m@gotik.ru. The author of the article is translated by AltaVista's Babel Fish Translation page as Sergey Merenkov. Also, there is a left arrow button to get to the main page of the site and from there, there is an English language button. However, it doesn't have the entire site translated...just certain sections.
-
Excellent - I'll pass that along to Marina.
-
VILIFY, baby, VILIFY!
-
And a very happy birthday to former dear reader Robin, who just up and disappeared without a word one fine day, after having been a daily poster for a year. Go know.
-
I am FINISHED!! Woo hoo!! Twelve pages, and not a word of it makes sense. Just how my teacher likes it. I am now relaxing on my futon with a furry brown meowing lump on my lap making it very difficult to type on this laptop computer. I would try to get some sleep, but since I counted fourteen empty Cherry Coke cans (!!), I don't see that happening in the near future.
Now that the semester is OVER, I just might give in to temptation and rip my teacher's textbook to shreds. If F. Scott Fitzgerald hasn't beat me to it, of course.
-
Congratulations to DRSANDRA...any paper that mentions FSF is worth an "A" in my book.
-
Recording a show? What great news! Awaiting more details as the story unfolds!
-
My first question for ASK BK day:
Are there any of the new Broadway composers that you like? Those who have begun to have shows during that past 15 years or so? Please give examples.
-
The Amazing Race was very good last night - good finale that showed exactly what kind of people we had on the show. And the win was deserved.
-
The Amazing Race was very good last night - good finale that showed exactly what kind of people we had on the show. And the win was deserved.
My feeling exactly, I was cheering as they ran to the finish line. I really wanted them to win!
-
Well, it's raining today, so what's new? I'm still feeling a little cruddy but must go to work today. There is justice to attempt to do, not such an easy thing to do these days.
I haven't had a jury trial in a long time and have 2 or 3 coming up this summer. Last night I dreamed another lawyer had started a trial and disappeared so I had to come in and do the closing argument without knowing anything about the case!
Sheesh! Reminds me of those school dreams where I dreamed I found out had a final to take and had never gone to the class because I didn't know I had signed up for it.
Villify!
-
Villify had a hammer...
-
Two Questions:
Did the First Nudie Musical make any of the Academy Awards pre-nominations nominations that year?
The Off-Broadway musical that you will record is that the one that Tony Walton was involved in?
-
I'll try to think of a question when I wake up. I need breakfast first....
....and a shower
.... and (wishfully) 2 more hours of sleep :P
-
BK, what exactly do you mean by "comp" the vocals? I assume you are not offering them free room service.
-
Ben, is it open seating or assigned seating at Anthony's show? Is ther anyway of seeing that we're sitting together if it is assigned (as I assume it to be)
-
Joan Blackman was Elvis' leading lady in a couple of films, and has always said great things about him in interviews. And of course director Nathan Juran (Hertz) also directed....well it is in fact his magnum opus even though he has been known to villify it...ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN.
-
It's open seating. It's a small space but we will be able to sit together without problem. Anthony's parents and an aunt and uncle will also be there so he will have a large rooting section.
-

Excellent. The Vixter got some American Girl gift certificates for her birthday so we will be making a stop there before the show, so I assume we will just be meeting you there. Is there somewhere nearby that we can go for a bite to eat afterwards ? (if the Vixter isn't nodding off, remember she just turned 12 ) :D
-
Yes, meeting at the theatre will be the best way to go. The doors don't open until 7:30 so if you get there earlier you will have to stand outside. There is a sandwich board outside of the church with actor pictures and postcards for the show so you'll know you're in the right place.
There isn't much in that area as Elmore and Rodzinski and Anthony and I found out last Saturday. There is a diner on Lexington and 77th but I think we made it in just before closing because after we sat down (a few minutes before 10pm) they started turning people away. The show gets out about 9:45 and then with waiting for the star (Anthony) it can eat away at your time. I'll ask around to see if there is anything closer.
-
BK, you never answered my question that I asked the other day about a Fox movie that you watched - THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS. (Or if you answered it, I never saw the response and I apologize in advance.)
What I asked was if it is a part of the Fox Studio Classics series or was it a generic Fox release? It is a Fox film, isn't it?
-
I haven't watched THE AMAZING RACE since Chip and Reichen won (it's just too intense for me; I get so nervous for the teams I'm pulling for that I can't sleep at night: absolutely true.)
At any rate, knowing that I did not like either Rob or Amber from the last SURVIVOR season I ever watched (their first appearance, not the All-Stars), I was delighted they didn't win. Besides, they got their wedding paid for by CBS so they could film it, so they've already gotten PLENTY of prizes.
-
DR Matt H how did the rehearsal go last night?
-
I will have some DVD news later in the day, but I will not say anything further until I have package in hand. It is due to be delivered today.
-
DR Matt H how did the rehearsal go last night?
Thanks for asking. I was thrilled that I remembered all my blocking and had only two little memory lapses which I was able to recover from without prompting. We did Act I twice.
However, and I hesitate to mention this as it's been a very sore point with me, but the actor playing my son has quit again (he was cast, quit, changed his mind, and quit again), and we open three weeks from tomorrow.
-
I stayed up for TAR last night, and am I glad! It ended just as it should have!!! Yeah!!

Auugh! Not like its a pivotal role or anything!! ::)
I am very sorry to hear this. What are the directors plan for replacing him?
-

That FSF, he is a rascal... Congratulations on completing your semester. What are your plans for the summer?

Re: last night's AMAZING RACE.
I was happy that the winners got the money. But not happy that they won (if that makes sense). It's hard to believe that the pilot letting them on that flight decided the outcome.
I hate when there is bunching. And last night was no exception. It let a team that was 6+ hours behind catch up. Also, there really wasn't much for them to do last night (which i hate). I like more challenges, more flights (that part was good), and more chances for mistakes.
There was a lot of luck that played into the show. U/J getting the flat tire. I prefer when actions result in winning or losing (like ron and kelly making a wrong turn to the airport).
And what was up with Uchenna paying the cabbie before crossing the finish? Couldn't he have just had the guy wait for 15 minutes and gotten the money (from Meredith perhaps). Really bizarre.
But how touching were the comments Uchenna made about having a baby. I hope we will hear baby news soon! I guess a lot of people will be happy with the outcome. They were my second choice to win. But how crazy that the betting spoiler was right. I wonder how that leaked out so early (i accidently read it because some idiot put their names in the subject heading when talking about the spoiler).
-
This is the least fresh daisy I have ever seen!
-
I am DELIRIOUS the odious Rob and Amber were beaten! I am ECSTATIC that Rob's glee at getting the only two standby seats on the earlier flight worked AGAINST them.
FATE has a way of dealing the right cards from time to time.
As for why they waited to pay the cab driver...it's because they are HONEST. There should be much more of that than there is.
-
Please don't VILIFY me!
-
Daisy Summer Piper
Come and take me by the hand
There's so much to be seen
The fields are dancing daisy bright
Hills are dappled green
Winter wind has ceased her labor
Giving birth to blossom rain as sweet as rain
And maybe you will fall in love
And maybe you'll be mine
Daisy summer pipers come to town
Piping people out of doors
To see the magic all around
Listen now you'll hear his sound
Stare into a mirror pool
And laugh so princely vain
The skies become kaleidoscopes
With no two turns the same
And pebbles send them dancing off
In ripple rings of sun burnt cloud and windy blues
And maybe we will fall in love
Before the day is through
Daisy summer pipers come to town
Piping people out of doors
To see the magic all around
Listen now you'll hear his sound

Speaking of wonderful character actors/actresses (well, we did speak of them some time back), Margaret Rutherford was in a movie last night called THE RUNAWAY BUS which I taped last night, along with a Dick Foran movie and a Jeff Chandler movie...just wanted to share.
-
I like DR MBARNUM'S picture caption.
-
DR RonP I didn't mean that they should have stiffed the cab driver. I just was wondering why they didn't tell him they would pay him AFTER they crossed the finish line.
Others have suggested that they were obligated to settle things with the driver until he was satisfied (because leaving him would have been against the law and they are not allowed to break the law).
The editing suggested that they did it out of the kindness of their hearts (which is also possible).
I just thought it made no sense to want to pay him BEFORE crossing the finish line. I'm sure he would have waited 30 minutes (which is probably how long it took them to beg for the $$ anyhow).
Also, I don't really get people who are so happy for Romber's downfall. Yes, Joyce and Uchenna were lovely people. But I'm sure that Rob and Amber are nice people too. I don't know if it's jealousy (i'm not talking about you) or what (i know they didn't need the money as much as U/J). I just like the most competitive team to win. It's not about the money to me. Like I said, I'm perfectly happy for U/J to have the money. I just wanted Romber to win the race. :)
Btw, I do get that many people just didn't like the way Rob played the game. And that is fine. But the editing does play a big part in creating "characters" on these shows.
-
DRMATTH - that actor has more problems than being in a show...LOL. You will get someone BETTER, you'll see. I am sure the director would be open to suggestions at this point if you know someone....I bet you do, think!

if only Joey lived on the other side of the country :)

Question to anybody... why do we write "i.e." to mean "for example"? I know I knew the answer to this once, but I cannot remember it.
-
When ever I see a daisy it makes me think of my Aunt Jo. She was my favorite aunt, and daisies were her favorite flower. She said they looked "honest and unpretentious"
-
DR Jennifer: The most competitive team or individual in any competition is not always the most desirable or deserving.
Being fiercely competitive does not make anyone "worthy" of winning. It's the whole individual that makes him or her or them worthy.
Rob is a first class sh*t, IMO. He came off that way on Survivor and he came of that way in TAR.
The team that won deserved the win. They played it fairly, squarely and they didn't have to look for tricky ways to get ahead of anyone.
It's cosmic karma.
-

Whenever I see flowers and bunnies and whatnots strewn all about, it just makes me want to fwow up.
:D

RON!! Did you just villify Rob, flowers, bunnies and whatntots?

My first question for ASK BK day:
Are there any of the new Broadway composers that you like? Those who have begun to have shows during that past 15 years or so? Please give examples.
Just composers? Steve Flaherty, some of Bill Finn (although he's earlier than that).
-
Composers & lyricists.
-
Two Questions:
Did the First Nudie Musical make any of the Academy Awards pre-nominations nominations that year?
The Off-Broadway musical that you will record is that the one that Tony Walton was involved in?
I would doubt we made any of the pre-nominations - we only really submitted in the song category.
Can't mention what the recording is quite yet.
-
BK, what exactly do you mean by "comp" the vocals? I assume you are not offering them free room service.
I believe I talked about this extensively in either Monday or Tuesday's notes (probably Tuesday's). Briefly, comping is taking the multiple vocal takes on a song and using the best bits from each to make one vocal take.
-

Oh yes, you did talk about it but I thought that was 'mixing"

What I asked was if it is a part of the Fox Studio Classics series or was it a generic Fox release? It is a Fox film, isn't it?
Not part of the Studio Classics line as far as I can tell. The film was a Fox pickup - released by Fox, but made in England by others. It doesn't even carry a Fox logo at the beginning.
-
So then the mixing is bringing the different final tracks of the vocals and the instrumentals together?
-
Yep.
-
VILIFY, baby, VILIFY!
I'm getting a rather late start to the morning.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
DR Kerry - Don't worry about those two extra hours of sleep. I made sure they were put to good use this morning.
;)
And now with the morning slept away, what now? Hmm... Laundry, mail, sorting, e-mails, phone calls... Ah, well. The rest/sleep was good and much needed.
Guess I should get some breakfast/brunch/lunch...
-
VILIFY!

e.g. - LATIN exempli gratia (for example).

Just watching the footage of the evacuations this morning in DC due to a possible "intruder" airplane.... YIKES!!!

I'm not sure if you've watched this edition. But I think anyone who did would agree that Rob and Amber were the best team. That is what I meant by most competitive.
I really disagree that the team that won deserved to win. Yes they were very nice (but so were Meredith and Gretchen). That didn't make them deserving (they were slow and bad at tasks).
Don't get me wrong. I really like Uchenna and Joyce. They seemed to be truly lovely people. BUt they finished near the middle of the pack most legs. That is not a winning team to me. I want a team that is kind to each other, that is competitive, and that is the best. I get that some people don't like Rob. But you act as if he's evil. He was playing a game. He didn't try to hurt anyone. Maybe his extreme competitiveness got in the way of him being overly nice. But I don't think that anyone should expect a team to share information or hand the last place team money. They are in a competition.
I think that Uchenna and Joyce did have some qualities which set them apart from the rest. I guess I just wish that they had done better in the other legs of the race. Plus they were in last place (at the non-elimination). And many hours behind when the bunching occured.
I know i won't change your mind about this. I just find that often people (including most people here at HHW who watch TAR) want to cheer for the most likeable team. It occasionally happens (like with Kris & Jon in TAR6) that the likeable team is the best. But more often than not they aren't even close to being the best.
I can't really explain it, but I find myself always cheering for who I find to be the strongest team. And frankly even though I liked Romber from Survivor, I was pretty shocked at how good they were in this game.
Okay enough comments from me about this.

I'm not having a very Zip-a-dee-doo-dah day. The A/C on our floor is out, it was warm yesterday and going to be warmer today, and now the fans are out that were at least giving us "fresh air" (you'll pardon the affrontery) from "outside" our building.
That and a horrible night of allergy malaise...I'm headachey and stuffed up and generally cannot stand myself.

DR Jennifer: There is logic to your arguments about TAR.
I believe that if the winning team wasn't good enough to win, they would not have won. They finished well ahead of Rob and Amber, who were so pleased with themselves for getting the only two seats on that standby earlier flight.
They also wasted lots of time looking for the cigar shop.
I appreciate that Rob & Amber finished hours ahead of folks in previous tasks, but TAR isn't judged like the Tour de France where your time is carried over from event to event. They'd have been unbeatable had that been done. They'd have to have dropped dead to lose it. And it sure seemed like all the other teams were happy with the outcome!
The way it's set up, "It's not where you start (or milestones you set along the way), it's where you FINISH!"
(thank you, thank you....a "SeeSaw" reference fer shur)!
-
DR Jennifer, I do understand you reasons for rooting for Rob and Amber to win. I think different people will have different reasons for who they root for.
Rob is a good player...I don't think Amber is so good, however. So I think Rob would have deserved to win, but not Amber...I do think Uchenna and Joyce played very good and fair (not dirty).
I do tend to go for the emotion and/or the underdogs. But it is fun to see who others root for and there reasons!
I have no doubt that Rob and Amber would be fun people to have as friends, however.

Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft.
Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too

I was browsing the internet, and this is something I found:
-
For the unaware, the stars of "Son of Fury" were Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney. The film was produced in black and white (darn-it) and has a rousing swashbuckling score that will soon be released upon soundtrack afficionadoes worldwise.
From what I gather, the art I posted was for the cover of the booklet insert.
Visit: http://chelsearialtostudios.com/
At this website you can see, and listen to samples, of past releases, upcoming releases and works in progress.

It's funny that you use the word emotion, because some people (like me) were emotionally attached to romber even before the race.
I liked rob from his survivor and survivor all-stars. Amber i wasn't as crazy about, but I liked them as a couple. So i was cheering for them before TAR7 even started.
I had no idea how they would play the game. I knew they were competitive. But I really did not know if they would be good at all.
So even if they were awful, I would have been cheering them on. It's sort of interesting that they ended up being so good.
And DR MBarnum, I know I can always count on you to cheer for the likeable/underdog team. That's what is so great about you. You want the nice guys to win.
One question. They made Ron and Kelly pretty unlikeable (even though i'm sure they are nice people). I wonder if anybody was cheering for them (they were a pretty good team).
-
DR RonP, hope you feel better.
I have started my exercise regime this week. I wish I had a metabolism that would let me eat as much as I want. But sadly that is not the case. And I really feel it! So I am starting to do Windsor Pilates every day. And biking.
Although that said, I am excited because my family is going for Japanese/Chinese tonight. It is my aunt's birthday and Japanese is her favorite. Sadly we found out yesterday the restaurant we were going to has closed down (she just tried to make the reservation yesterday). Me I always make my reservation much earlier. :)
Anyhow since I knew we were going for Japanese, I had gotten so happy about eating Tempura (it's veggies in batter). So good! Well this new restaurant has it. So yum. Plus they make some great chinese dishes. So I will be eating well tonight.

Good Afternoon!
I guess it's time for me to be productive...
Hmmm....

Hello, all! I've been E&T all day becuase of my computer, which was rejecting all attempts to connect with the internet from last night to this afternoon.
That's all, folks!
-
Well, I am glad you finally connected DR Elmore!
-
DR RLP - what a great CD cover! You know of course that appearing in a supporting role in SOF was Miss Frances Farmer. It was directed by John Cromwell and also featured Kay Johnson - the parents of James Cromwell of BABE fame.
-
Somewhere south of pago pago, I would think.
-
Wow! What a great bunch of CD's!

DR George made the correction about i.e. before I got to it.
-
Back from lunch:
A sort of Greekish affair...salad of cucumbers, feta cheese, carrot slivers and red bell pepper slices. Very tasty in an oily dressing.
Also had a cup of potato & roasted garlic puree, served warm with croutons. Slurp!
DR Jennifer: I am sorry to VILIFY Boston Rob...I realize he stirs passion in some people...generally portions of the female persuasion. Of course, "vilification" is a passion, too, come to think of it.
-
I suggested to the director that he move heaven and earth to get the actor who played Barrett last year in TITANIC to take the role of the son. He liked him very much as well, and he's a MUCH better actor than the kid who was playing Jean-Michel. Talking him into doing it with only three weeks to prepare is another matter. (And who knows what else he has going on in his life at the moment.)
Anyway, it's out of my hands. I've got all I can do learning my part.
-
Boston Rob had a passionate effect on me, too - passionate hatred and loathing.
-
Ann you are the kind of person I would want my child with, if I needed day care. Those are lucky children.
Vixmom, lovely picture of the children. The one of the two of you together is beautiful.

Matt H. when you get around to Numbe3s let me know. HOUSE was extra funny last night. We went to watch MEDIUM but TiVo recorded the wrong channel (we have a glitz with our system once in awhile). It’s okay because it recorded in our guest room. I have our favorite shows set in there as a backup.
I decided to give Law & Order: Trial by Jury a try. Does it matter if I begin with the next episode or shall I wait for the re-runs? I noticed Tony Bill is on. I haven’t seen him in front of the camera in years.
-
Bruce will you be posting more photos of yourself modeling your new outfits. It really is nice to see you wearing something besides a polo shirt. :)
-
Today I received a new DVD player. No, there was nothing wrong with my old DVD player/recorder. It's still working fine.
But ever since I got this new TV with a digital HDMI connection on it, I've been longing to get a reasonably priced DVD player that offered a pure digital connection using HDMI (or DVI) between the player and the TV. The player also upconverts standard definition DVDs to near high definition quality using an upconversion chip that calibrates the signal to the maximum resolution of one's HDTV. Since my TV's resolution is 720p, I set the player to upconvert DVDs to that quality level, and I put in DIE ANOTHER DAY, the most recent James Bond movie as my test DVD.
There is a discernable increase in sharpness and detail without adding artifacts and noise to the picture when using this player in this mode. I hooked up the component cables to the player as well and switched back and forth, and I could tell a slight difference in sharpness and the depth of richness in color is also noticeable.
The upconversion won't work unless you have one of those digital jacks (either DVI or HDMI) on your set, but I am well pleased with this latest toy.
Regulation high definition DVD players aren't scheduled to be unveiled until the fourth quarter of this year at the earliest and will carry a near $1,000 price tag. Knowing I won't be in the market for one of those any time soon, this new player is certainly a reasonable alternative.
-

Yes, I'll watch NUMBERS in the next day or two. I recorded HOUSE last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Looking forward to it as it's one of my favorite shows.
LAW & ORDER: TRIAL BY JURY, like all the L&O shows, are self-contained hour episodes, so you can watch them in any order.
-
Sandra have fun between now and July. You might even come to Ashland and see FOREVER PLAID.:)
Matt H, good stage son vibes!
With all these lovely daisies and cute bunnies it feels like spring.
Ron good AC and feel better vibes!

And I made a DVD-R this morning of ROYAL WEDDING that was broadcast last night on TCM. Thought there are some age related artifacts on the print of RW that TCM broadcasts, the DVD I made is still light years ahead of the public domain copies of RW that are out there for purchase. Glad now to have a good copy of this fine, fine musical.

-Is there an echo in here?
;)
Laters...

Matt H, thanks. Then we will begin with the Tony Bill episode. I still remember selling him popcorn when I worked at the Bruin Theater. He was soooo good looking, much more in person than on the screen. So much so that another gal I didn’t recognize him even though YOU’RE A BIG BOY NOW was the movie currently playing. ;D
-
I decided to give Law & Order: Trial by Jury a try. Does it matter if I begin with the next episode or shall I wait for the re-runs? I noticed Tony Bill is on. I haven’t seen him in front of the camera in years.
The season finale was last week (which I forgot to tape and watch, so I missed it), so anything you watch now will be repeats...unless I'm mistaken about last week being the season finale.

Boston Rob had a passionate effect on me, too - passionate hatred and loathing.
What is this feeling?
Fervid as a flame,
Does it have a name?
Yes!:Loathing
Unadulterated loathing
For your face
Your voice
Your clothing
Let's just say - I loathe it all
Ev'ry little trait, however small
Makes my very flesh begin to crawl
With simple utter loathing
There's a strange exhilaration
In such total detestation
It's so pure and strong!
Though I do admit it came on fast
Still I do believe that it can last
And I will be loathing
Loathing you
My whole life long!

.
Vixmom, lovely picture of the children. The one of the two of you together is beautiful.
Thank you!!
-
HERE (http://www.nbc.com/Law_&_Order:_Trial_by_Jury/) is the offical NBC homepage to "Law & Order: Trial By Jury." It's quite informative!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBIN!!
George thank you for the link and the good news I will be watching the first episode. :)
-
spoo, anyone care to resize that?
-
Vixmom you are funny. ;D
-
I don't think your new TV will have an HDMI interface, but I could be mistaken. ;)
-
The TV GUIDE listed the Tony Bill episode as one featuring Jerry Orbach so it is a rerun. I think I saw all of the episodes of this show, but I don't really remember the plot of one where Bill played a producer.
But I do watch A LOT of TV.
-
So let it be written - so let it be done. ;D
-
Here is a copy of the brochure that came with my new TV
Did this send us into cinemascope?
-
VISTA VISION
MOTION PICTURE HIGH FIDELITY
-
Oh, miserere....
....and then some.
I'm totally mouth-breathing at present. Heavy-duty fans are cooling down the hallways, doors are opened all over the floor, and the air is full of fine particles of whatnot and whichever, all making a beeline for my sinus passages.
-
VIXMOM can fix it now.
DRELMORE did you get to watch anymore of your video?
-
VIXMOM left without helping us....

VIXMOM left without helping us....
...left us WIDE open............................................. ....

I was browsing the internet, and this is something I found:
I thought Fury was a film about a horse and now I find out the Son of Fury is a human. Tres confusing.

I don't know about an "official" English language production, but if you click HERE (http://georgenet.net/kristina/), there are two links to text files that are translations that someone has done. Actually, one is the lyrics and the other is the synopsis of the songs. I remember finding a site a couple of years ago where someone had translated the whole show, song by song, but I haven't been able to find that site again...yet. I'll check my bookmarks at home and see what I can find. But again, I haven't heard anything about an English language production.
Oh, and welcome back, ozderek!
-
My work day is devolving...I think my co-workers' brains are frying.
Lots of "little fires" keep popping up, for no "good" reasons, I assure you.
So, I have "fire watch."
Heigh-ho.
-
I would have liked to know you
But I was just a kid
The candle burned out long before
The legend ever did.....

Well... Since I was spending some time in Mamma Mia! land the past couple of weeks... It's still being developed, and some sort of workshop may appear as soon as this summer.
-but I'm not sure where my "birdies" got their info, so...
-
I'm off to the Washington Center in downtown Olympia. They're having their annual Volunteer thank-you dinner. They also announce the upcoming season!! I can't wait to find out what's coming. ;D
-
....That is, of course, if that's the same Kristina you're talking about..
-
Hi OZDEREK.
-
Hi ozderek. How is the weather your way? Is it now autumn there?
-
Hi elmore. It is just the two of us.
-
Guess it is just me. :'(
-
hello there,
thanks for the info re "KFD" - i have come across the translation sites but am really keen to find out about the official translation that is taking place in order to stage this in the English speaking countries. I had heard rumours that Don Black was working on it.
Life down here is fine. The weather is getting cooler, which means you must be entering the Summer months. * sigh * Lucky you.
Oh, this morning I ordered (via Amazon) the soundtracks to :
* Spamalot
* Little Women
* Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Not having seen the shows or heard any of the music so far, can anybody enlighten me as to whether I have made a good choice .....?
Cheers from Oz!
-
Good Evening!
DR ozderek - All good CD choices. However, I think you may be surprised - like I was - at how contemporary the score for Little Women is. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it caught me by surprise, at least.
-
I still have yet to be productive, but I did end up heading out and rounding up some dinner for me and my folks. Greek: spanakopita, gyro, souvlaki (pork), fried zucchini, french fries, salad and lots of tzatziki. -Oh, and I picked up some cookies from the bakery next door. :)
-
I was working on something for a few minutes and missed Ozderek-darn.
The other day I heard a few songs from Spamalot and now I want to see the show. Let me know what you think when you receive the CD's.
-
Hello, DRJane! I've been coming and going as I get bored with my writing. I thought the SPAMALOT recording was fantastic.
-
I was browsing the internet, and this is something I found:
Hmmm... All these years I had thought that Son of Fury was the sequel to Fury. There doesn't seem to be a horse in sight on that CD cover.
-
Did this send us into cinemascope?
I have a 20" monitor and my screen resolution is set at 1024 x 768 and even I am experiencing cinemascope on this page!
I am not, however, hearing stereophonic sound.
-
I thought Fury was a film about a horse and now I find out the Son of Fury is a human. Tres confusing.
You and me both, bruddah! I've always passed up Son of Fury whenever I saw it in the TV listings because I thought it was a sequel to a movie I never saw. Live and learn...
Has anyone noticed that TCM sees to be using a webcam for Robert Osbourn's segments lately? It looks like he's broadcasting from Iraq this week, the way his movements are herky and jerky and the general lack of depth.
-
I got half way through the Spamalot OCR this afternoon, but it was just getting on my nerves--the "Knights of the Round Table" number seemed incredibly loud, long and forced. But then, I was listening to it when I was feeling very sh*tty and irritable (my typical state at work these days) and I probably wasn't receptive to it. I'll give it another chance tomorrow (along with the new Pacific Overtures and the Sondheim Sings CD.)
-
For those of you who are lovers of vinyl, go to this link (http://www.d-silence.com/story.php?headline_id=21031&comment=1).
And here's the company's site link (http://www.elpj.com/).
I want one!
-
I was not happy wit the IDOL results tonight, but I can't say I'm that surprised. I think voters are being fooled by loudness and vocal calisthenics rather than on-pitch singing, but so be it.
-
I must think of a DVD I'd like to see enhanced on the new DVD player. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK crossed my mind, and so did THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and CHICAGO.
-
Dan the Man, I want that Record Laser! I've heard tell of such a thing for years, but it seems to actually be coming to pass.
-
I'm waiting for SON OF THE FURY, the sequel to the generally repugnant Brian DePalma, Kirk Douglas, Amy Irving flick where John Cassavetes head explodes!

Actually his whole body explodes

I'm back from an incredibly long day of mixing, but we finished everything, including my fixes from the other day. I now have to listen to everything tomorrow and make sure I like everything that we did that was new, plus make sure we didn't ruin anything by doing the small fixes we did. I did end up calling in Mr. Haines to fix two notes in one song, and he came and nailed them in one quick take, and we're both much happier now.
That said, the one thing I did not expect to come home to was 146 postings. What is THAT about on a weekday? I thought I'd settle in to some lovely reading but that was not to be. The posts that were here are indeed lovely, but frankly or even georgely I don't get this errant and truant and WUSSBURGER stuff - it baffles me large. Oh, well, such is life in the big city. I must go write tomorrow's notes, even though I just got home and have been gone since eleven (we ate dinner after we finished at seven-thirty). Since there's been a supreme dearth of postings, maybe I'll just put off the notes for a while and post them whenever I post them. Yes, that's what I'll do.
-
well, i'm at work and thought i'd pop in to see who is here..
seems everybody must be asleep ... except for bk .. are you an insomniac?
anyhow, as they said in the waltons .. 'goodnight usa, goodnight canada, goodnight france, goodnight japan, goodnight australia and ... goodnight bk!'
talk with you all soon.
cheers!
-
Not an insomniac - just got home. I spy me a Pogue, but a Pogue has been known to read and run.
-
I've been home but my housemate uses my computer, and since I stay up much later than he does, he uses it when he can.
Anyway, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts here in Olympia had its annual volunteer thank you dinner. They thanked us volunteers/ushers by giving us some food. They also had a bunch of door prizes, but I didn't win anything. Darn. Oh, well. There's always next year!
-
And speaking of next year, just a few of the events coming to the Washington Center next season are (in approximate chronological order...and I hope that I'm not giving away any Center secrets by posting these! ::)):
Melissa Manchester
The Full Monty!!
Kate Clinton!
Bella Fleck and someone else on a duo tour
David Amram (I'd never heard of him, but he's supposed to be an important music person)
Seattle Symphony
The Acting Company's Three Musketeers
a national tour of Oklahoma and
two performances of Cats!
and many more things that I couldn't write down in time.
I've never seen Cats live. I will probably be asked to work backstage, the load-in and load-out. If I do, I'll get paid (yea!) but I won't get to actually see the show. When I work backstage, there is almost never any chance to see anything that happens on stage, so I'm torn! Of course, there is always the possibility of not being asked to work backstage, but then I won't get paid...oh what to do?!?! ;)
-
Well, I must Wuss out. I want to get to work early...no, really, I do! So, I'm off to sleepyland. Goodnight, all! ;D
-
Yep, he read and ran. He's so contrary, that Pogue. Guess that means he won't be getting an early copy of the Guy Haines album. Oh, well.
-
Sad to be all alone in the world.
And annoying.
