Well, you've read the notes, the notes were milky and had a way about them, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating Snicker's, as they don't like Milky Ways.

And the word of the day is: OVERSLAUGH!

Here is revised Nudie art, taking into account a few comments from here. We're going to try one other version, but that can't happen until I get him something to work with, which will be on Sunday.

Nice revised poster. :D
-
sorry this is late, from 2 days ago
I have a copy of "The Creature Wasn't Nice".
I wish I had a copy of "One From the Heart".
BK looks simply marvelous with foil and under the hairdrier.
Dear JRand58, I think the monavie thing is way out of my price range.
Dear JoseSPiano, always love the pictures with monkey.
Dear SweetIrma: Hi newly registered, and thank you for the Barbra Streisand song and link.

now to read yesterday's posts

From yesterday
Happy 1st day of Spring to everyone.
Dear Jane, I agree with you, re: the poster, what is she doing with her hand ?

Listened to both "That Man from Rio" and "Anya"

Good night all, I enjoyed reading everyone's posts.
It was fun to stay up till 2:30 in the morning.
Almost like being young again.

This suggestion is not being prudish, but move the title slightly to the left, so the first letter of each word is on the body. A little more centered? I thionk it is justified to to the right a little too much. The F & N will still have some of the lettering on the blue.

TOD
Now I don't know if this is considered avant guard, but
Tom Stoppard's Dogg's Hamlet/Cahoot's MacBeth.
The first play is spoken in Dogg that was created by a Philospher. English words that we know have a completely different meaning. It culminates in a mini in a "highlight" version of Hamlet of 20 minutes or so.The curtain call is a sped up version of the play.
Cahoot's MacBeth took place somewhere in the USSR (I think Czechoslovakia)and it told the story of a theater troupe that would perform in people's house because theater was banned. This is based on a true story. The ending of the play somehow connects with the first play. I no longer remember how. Cahoot is an Anglo-sized version of a name that was based on a Czech playwright

DR Jane, re: the Barbie cake beauty.
It is a new barbie design.
Btw, i'm not sure if they are selling them in the US. Cake Beauty is a Canadian company. And while they sell their products in the US they have a website where you click where you live. On the
canadian site they had the barbie products. But not on the US site. :(

I'm back from Florida and heading into the tax office today.
Must try to catch up, must try to catch up.

Saturday morning greetings! I'm about to leave for my 4-hour stint at the book sale. Do you think my Michigan sweatshirt will have a negative impact on our sales, considering that Ohio State lost last night in double overtime?
-
Good morning, all! Lebanon, OH, is a hop and a skip from my hometown, BK. I could have come to see you in the show. The famous inn is "The Golden Lamb," which seems to have housed everyone famous in the 19th Century as they treked across the country.
Last night, I finished Lewis' book, so I'm ready for something new. Today is a heavy blitz with the Ron Raines concert, and this will make up most of my week. I have no plans beyond working on the concert today or tomorrow.
Welcome back, DR FJL! How was the trip?

And it's still there - we could have a HHW gathering there sometime!

TOD:
Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett
Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay

And The Song Of The Day Is: POLITICS AND POKER

Monkey on a Joggle Board - that is the name of my new historical novel.

Thanks to MR BK who wrote about THE BISHOP'S COMPANY today. Most interesting.
-
I am home from work one last day. Right now watching BRUTE FORCE on TCM.
-
TOD:
I hate avant garde plays, movies, and television shows. I will not watch them. However, I will enjoy reading about the choices of the friends here at HHW.
Obama is on Long Island near Phoenix?

Dionne Warwick is going to read the notes this morning.
-
Good Morning, All. I'm going to have Sugar for the weekend! Yay! There are painters scraping and working around the complex, so I have a feeling I will be doing my best to keep Sugar from barking. She's very well-behaved and only barks at things like the doorbell ringing or someone standing outside the scraping and poundung. Maybe if i just take her out to meet the guy, she'll lick him to death. Or maybe I will.....
Nah! Not I!
-
Saturday greetings. It's colder in New York than in Fort Atkinson.
I'm about to begin my morning ablutions and then I will be out and about.
I've had my oatmeal and coffee and washed the bowl and the mug and now it's time to wash myself.
-
I might go to the Gay and Lesbian Expo this afternoon at the Javits Center.
-
Dionne Warwick just called, she is ill and will not be able to read the notes today.
-
If one were into avant-garde and absurdist theatre one would be able to see two, count 'em, two plays of that genre.
There is a new production of Waiting for Godot with Nathan Lane, Bill Irwin, John Glover and John Goodman.
There is also a production of Exit the King with Geoffrey Rush, Susan Sarandon, Lauren Ambrose and Andrea Martin.
I must admit, in spite of the casts, I have little desire to see either production.
-
Oh, Hell. Why sit around on Page 1
-
That's better.
-
My work here is done for now.
-
Good morning!
Quite cool this morning but an otherwise beautiful day here. Beautiful light blue sky and lots of sunshine. It is breezy, though, and one needs a jacket to stay outside for long.

Obama is on Long Island near Phoenix?
That's what I heard.

TOD:
I don't know from such plays.

I read the ANYA booklet last night before turning out the lights. I really enjoyed Walter Willison's liner notes and the backstage stories he had to offer.
There were a couple of fact gaffes, however. Laurence Guittard did not win the Tony for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. George S. Irving won for IRENE that year, ironically mentioned by Walter elsewhere in his notes. Obviously, he had forgotten that the two men were competing against each other for the Tony that year.
Hanya Holm did not win the Tony for choreographing MY FAIR LADY. Michael Kidd won that year for bk's beloved LI'L ABNER.
Far be it from me to tell you your business, bk, but you've got a forum here of folks who are very knowledgeable about theater and film (as you yourself are). You might want to have some of us fact check liner notes for you if you're amenable to the idea. It's just a suggestion. I just hate having anything going out with your name on it that isn't as perfect as it can be.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm at rehearsal.
-
Great story/profile on John Cullum this morning on NPR. -He's currently in two shows in NYC right now. One On-Broadway and one Off-Broadway. At the same time!!!
-
Since I have watched all of my review items, I have the entire weekend to myself. I have some shows on the DVR that I'll watch as I eat lunches over the weekend, but I'm eager to dive into the Blu-ray pile that's ever-increasing. If THE ROBE will arrive today (PLEASE!), I'll watch that tonight. If not, I'll start on ALEXANDER - THE FINAL CUT. That will probably take all evening since it's so long.
Tomorrow, I may get to THE WILD BUNCH, '21,' or TROY - THE DIRECTOR'S CUT all on Blu-ray. I haven't seen THE WILD BUNCH in decades and never, obviously, in high definition.
-
Just a reminder that those who missed this week's CASTLE or want to check it out, ABC is rebroadcasting its second episode tonight at 10 p.m.
CAT BALLOU comes on TCM tonight. I haven't seen that in decades either.
-
DR JRand,
Criterion released BRUTE FORCE on DVD last year, and I watched (and reviewed) it and was quite spellbound by it. It's a marvelous film.

Sing out, Ladies!

Guess it's time for me to head downstairs and check the mail (with fingers crossed) and then start on preparing some lunch.
WBBL.
-
That's a little disturbing about the incorrect facts - and I've learned my lesson - I did no fact-checking because Walter was having a very knowledgeable theater writer proofing every comma, every period, every line - I guess he didn't proof the CONTENT. So, from now on, either I write the liners as I do for the soundtracks, and as I'm doing for Illya, or I fact check myself, which is a pain but I'll do it.
-
I got up in plenty of time to do the long jog, but it's really gray out and looks like it's going to rain, and I don't want to take the chance that I'll be two miles in and it will start pouring.
-
DR JOSE are you working with the old ladies and their walkers this morning?
-
I did not order I CLAUDIUS, but I did order VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, Season Two Volume One.
-
DR JOSE are you working with the old ladies and their walkers this morning?
This morning was devoted to the chorus girls. This afternoon will be devoted to "Little Old Lady Land". -Pray for Rosemary's baby.

Uh - oh.....learning the song or choreography?

Good morning everyone,
topic of the day: WAITING FOR GADOT (I forgot I saw this at the Music Center until I saw DAW's post), thank you for reminding me how much I loved it.
-
Dear Kerry, she'll lick him to death (is Sugar just a wonderfully sweet dog?) that's what I pictured when I read this.
-
Dear Matt H. I'd love to see Cat Ballou tonight, but I don't pay for cable. I can't seem to sit for more than a couple of hours a week to watch something. I don't have a clue as to why other than lately I'm a really fidgety person.
-
I'm one of those west coast lurkers who will be at BK's event today.
See you tonight. Hope everyone has a wonderful 2nd day of Spring.

And it looks like that's the first DVD release, with the 13-part version. As I "broke" the news in my review of the recently reissued version, the new one, despite having minimally better image and audio, contains what was evidently a BBC version, with only 12 episodes. The editing in the first two episodes is pretty bad, IMHO.

Keith has been attempting to fix our bathroom faucet. He just screamed for my assistance. There is water EVERYWHERE. ;D
I think I won't be back for awhile, lots to clean up.

I am now listening to a live recording of the original Broadway production of Follies (including dialogue). I think Follies is my favorite Sondheim score including the all the cut songs.
The only song I don't have is The World's Full Of Boys/The World's Full Of Girls
-
I've finished the questions for today's events and printed out everything I need. I'm sure David Lee will be talkative - if he isn't, my questions probably won't take more than thirty minutes - if he is talkative, that will turn into an hour or ninety minutes, and the rest is audience Q&A.
-
BK
David Lee directed the production of Do I Hear A Waltz that you recorded?

If it's the same soundboard one I have, you might notice there are actually some interpolations from the OBC recording. The guy who gave it to me years ago had the history as to why that had happened, but I can't for the life of me recall right now. I want to say it's at least "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs," but it might be something else and/or more.

Yes.

I've printed out everything, I've shaved, and I'll now shower and then be on my way to LACC, after which I shall return.

You'll either thank me for this or hate me - but Warners has taken a leaf from Arkiv Music and they're about to release a whole slew of movies via their new Warners Archive line - only available on the Internet - some incredible titles that I think we can now assume won't ever see the light of a proper release - I'm sure they're spending nothing on remastering them properly, but I think our dear readers will definitely want to get some of these.

I'll thank you. At last the Laurence Olivier/Peter Brook version of THE BEGGAR'S OPERA gets a US release! It was never available here on VHS either. I suspect it's the same as the Region-2 DVD, but I could be wrong.

Good Afternoon!

George, I have been catching up on the posts while I was in Vegas (BK's notes I read the evening I returned) and I read that you attended a matinee of FOOTLOOSE last Sunday, and that you knew several people in the show.
How was the show? Who did you know? I heard that they had a very bad epidemic of that horrible flu that went thru the entire cast and crew during Hell Week.

I didn't know anything about an epidemic and couldn't tell. They put on a good show. I knew Chris Serface (of course) and Matt Posner (the lead). Matt and I were in Side Show and Reefer Madness! The Musical together.

And now, I'm off to work. After that, I'm stopping at my sister's for a short bit. Our parents are coming over and my sister is having a fondue dinner, but I can't stay for very long. I'm working concessions for Lauren Weedman in BUST (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=1056) and need to be there before 6:00 pm. It sounds like it'll be great:
Bust is Lauren Weedman’s semi-autobiographical work built around her experiences working as a volunteer advocate in a Southern California prison for women. With one foot in Hollywood and the other in jail, the former Daily Show with Jon Stewart correspondent careens wildly between the two worlds, taking us on a hilarious, poignant, and completely unforgettable ride. The LA Weekly called her work "breathtaking... a female Robin Williams".
;D
Have a good day, all!

Do You Know The Milky Way??
I think that has just been made into a movie starring Sean Penn, hasn't it?! ;)
-
Dionne Warwick just called, she is ill and will not be able to read the notes today.
Sounds like lyrics to a Cole Porter song, no? ;)
-
I highly recommend TOAST OF NEW YORK to anyone who wonders why JR and I spend so much time discussing FF. It's one of her better pictures, certainly the most expensive she ever made, with wonderful supporting performances by Cary Grant, Edward Arnold, Jack Oakie and Donald Meek. She doesn't sing particularly well (in fact, she's pretty bad), but her performance is spot on, with several fantastic scenes. For you trivia lovers, that's Albert Brooks' mother Thelma Leeds playing Fleurique.

Hey, François, I was never able to record that Disney Friday Night is Music Night broadcast from last year. We were running back and forth between Long Island and Manhattan and all of a suddne 7 days had passed and it was gone from the Listen Again.
Sorry.
-
Interesting titles in the link MR BK posted. As DR JMK wrote - TOAST OF NEW YORK is an interesting flick - that almost put RKO out of business...but there you are.
Titles seem a bit pricey.

Hmmmm.....there are six or seven I would like to have.....but at 19.99 each! Whew!

Oh, That's all right!
I know You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore! :D
I made an audio tape of it at my working place with the recorder positionned in front of the Mac's loudspeaker. It's better than nothing else!
BUT, if I were (A Rich Man and...) in Chicago, Illinois, right now I'd go and see (In that order!) Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee in Poppins!
You know... the nanny with the umbrella and the guy with the brush?!
I'd be flying high!
Terrific voice and talent.
I wish (Wishing list!!) BK would make a cd with Ashley Brown!! ... and Marin Mazzie ... and Karen Morrow ... and a new one with Jason Graae .... with arrangements by elmore, of course, and piano playing by José .... and liner notes by Walter Willison ... :)
Oh .... Gavin CREEL is Claude in HAIR in N.Y.C. right now!
Another great voice and talent!
How's Ants doing?

We haven't heard from Vixmom lately!
Hope she's doing ok!
She might be tired ....

Michael Shayne's gone and JRand's ordering a Shirley Temple at the bar, and Ben's listening to a Chorus line on his iPod! :)

Those Happy Hours at HHW don't "work" anymore!!
-
Back from my bookselling stint - 2 hours cashiering and 2 hours straightening and restocking tables. When we sort the books, we put extras from each category in boxes under the tables and, by the time Richard and I left at 2pm, we had the floor space almost cleared. That means we've sold a lot of books in the last couple of days. It will pick up in about 15 minutes, when the half-price sale begins, and again tomorrow when, all day, customers buy a brown grocery bag (remember those?) for $5 and fill it.
We actually had people have the nerve to ask today if they could put books aside and come back for them during the sale periods. Come on, the most expensive items were recent hardcovers at $3!

Why was I under the impression that the image was substantially better in the new release? I didn't buy it; I've watched the original so much that I knew a newer version wouldn't get enough viewings now to warrant the expense.

And that was "food for the thought" for DR MattH.
Thanks for thinking of me, but I frankly don't need your food for thought. I am WELL aware of my own shortcomings and found no joy in pointing out these mistakes. However, as a responsible producer of the album, Bruce's name IS on it, too, and it was HIS reputation I was concerned with.
In my own writing on my work site, I regularly field corrections to mistakes I make and am grateful for them. I have never considered myself unable to learn something new or be corrected on mistaken information I thought to be true.
-
My viewing this afternoon began with Thursday night's SMALLVILLE. A very interesting episode (though Jimmy's volatile reaction to Chloe's relationship with Davis was juvenile. Why not sit down and talk about feelings instead of making such a melodramatic gesture as ending their brief marriage?)
The episode did give Allison Mack some of her best acting opportunities and she made the most of them.
-
Next I watched DOLLHOUSE. The show has been on several weeks, but I thought since the CBS shows I usually watch weren't being aired last night, I'd sample it.
After the first half hour, I was ready to balk. It was very talky; I wasn't sure who anyone was, and I realized one did need some of the backstory from the previous episodes to kind of know what was going on (having read about the show's premise, I managed to barely keep my head above water.)
The second half did begin to draw me in, however, so I was glad I stuck with it. I'll likely give the show another week on my radar before deciding whether to stay with it or dump it. There were some interesting twists in the show's last ten minutes that were surprising.
-
I finished up my afternoon watching the rest of THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL that I had begun last night. I love Gloria Grahame, but I'm not sure I would have given her the Oscar that year.
-
I guess I forgot to mention that I *DID* receive THE ROBE and QVO VADIS on Blu-ray today. I was beyond thrilled (and relieved as I was starting to think the package had been lost in the mail.)
Tonight I will give a major portion of the evening over to THE ROBE in high definition. I really am excited to see it in a decent copy after all these years. I never got to see it in a theater. I only have crappy pan and scan TV showings and the very damaged DVD to go by, so this is going to be my introduction to what THE ROBE can look like. I am very excited by the prospect.
-
Heading down now to tidy up the kitchen and then get back into the home theater for THE ROBE.
WBBL.
-
Hi SweetIrma...I missed you :-*
-
Sitting in a blocking rehearsal for The King and I and as par for the course, none of the underscore isn't working as we're not doing the show with the original stage directions! This, of course, always happens. In the meantime, I'm trying to finalize the instrumentation of the show, I have budget for 11, not to mention that the pit is very small. We had 14 for Aspects of Love and I remember that we had an order in which we entered the pit each evening. My goal is to make it as acoustic as possible with no "piano" sounds.
-
It's a BEAUTIFUL day here. 70 degrees and sunny. I was a ticket taker for the film festival but since I've already seen the films being shown, decided to go home and enjoy the day, and enjoy it I have been doing. I have many windows open in the house and worked in the yard a little. It's really too early to rake, but I had tons of sticks and pine cones out there, so I decided to rake a little. It was SOO nice.
-
I also took a table and chairs out of the garage and put them back on the front porch. I know we'll get more snow and it's going to get cold next week, but that won't hurt them. And the lions came out of the garage and are now guarding the front steps again.
-
It's supposed to rain for the next couple days. I'll work in the house then. Also watching a little of the old b-ball. Go Michigan! Go Purdue! I'm cheering for the Big 10
-
The girls are very happy to have the windows open and to have me here. They have been following me around and getting into things. It's cute
-
Hi SweetIrma...I missed you :-*
Obviously, you are not the only one, says he, in a conceted way! ;)
Thank you!
We haven't seen much of your meow friends lately! ...

Pictures! We want pictures!!

Back from the event, which was stellar.

Story:
Last week, I found a French site that had a blurb on Miss Kim Criswell. Since I had read elmore's post about Miss Criswell doing SOM at the Chatelet Theater this year, I posted such info on that site, giving credits where they're due.
Well, the fellow answered that he had exchanged emails with elmore (Small world!) recently and didn't know about SOM BUT knew that the Châtelet in Paris will also host A Little Night Music in February of 2010!
The Châtelet Theater site doesn't mention anything yet!
I am thrilled about both shows coming to Paris. A first I believe!

François, are you still prohibited from listening to the Radio while at work? Beverley is on right now and she's playing My Cup Runneth Over from I Do, I Do.

Prohibition is gone, (I'll drink to that!) and I can listen to radio again! I LOVE My Friday Night Is Music show and I will listen to Beverley later, who's really my "cup"!!!
Thanks for the info!

The Hills Are Alive With Beverley,
But not in Beverly Hills!

Back from the event, which was stellar.
Stellar by starlight?
I'm trying to "replace" Daw! Am I succeeding?? :)

Waiter, bring us some more Baccardi!

I'll dig up some photos later. I haven't taken any in a while.

Good! Something to anticipate!
Some weeks ago, I was visiting my mother in the South West of France, and as I was entering her living room, oblivious of my mother who was busy checking her bank account, THERE was a black cat sitting on the chair next to my mother's, as if he belonged to the place!!
We're familiar with this cat who's very snoopy but doesn't like to be petted! He had entered through the window of my mother's bedroom.
He's ALL black with darker black stripes running the length of his body.
He IS a cool cat!
I tell you!
He was sitting there like so much ... fish ... for a cat! :)

David Lee was delightful, he liked the questions, and the only problem was that about twenty people who'd made reservations didn't show up, including two people I know well. I just don't get it - one of them got the time wrong (it's clearly printed EVERYWHERE), and the other just didn't show. Not good. Still we had about fifty people and the space we were in only has sixty-five seats. Lots of laughs and great information.
-
On the weekends you make a good replacement. DAW, that's not a knock on you but since we only get our Dear François on the weekends he should make up for time lost!
-
Here's the final version of the Nudie art for the reading - I had him add more of a smile and the wink - didn't like both her eyes closed - now it's saucy.

I wonder what happened to DR MBarnum?

And may I just add, a propos of nothing, Edmundo Ros is da bomb, baby.

Dear Kerry, she'll lick him to death (is Sugar just a wonderfully sweet dog?) that's what I pictured when I read this.
Sugar is just a wonderfully sweet dog. Ask anyone!

That logo makes me smile!
Two - that's right - TWO NEW episodes of COPS tonight!
-
Here I am at work (just finished) and was perusing my Favorites in my browser and wondered what "Cast_FutureReleases (http://www.jorgeplace.com/Cast_FutureReleases.htm)" was. It's a link within "Jorge's Place: A Personal Tribute to Musicals (http://www.jorgeplace.com/)." It's been a long time since I've been to this site, but I remember that I'd gone there before.
Anyway, looking at the future releases list, the second one down is something that several of us have mentioned that we'd love to have:
Weill: The Threepenny Opera / 1976 Public Theater Revival (http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=214480&album_group=12)!! Advance Order: This title will be released on 04/07/2009. You may place an order now however, and we will ship it on the release date. You won't be charged until the item is actually shipped.
I've placed my order! I got both the Mary Martin and Pearl Bailey versions of Hello, Dolly! from ArkivMusic (http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/main.jsp) and was not disappointed! ;D

It is 7:30 and there is still daylight around these here parts.

The reason I hate mistakes in liner notes - is that eventually someone will argue the point with you and give said note as a reference.....

Are there fotos from the EVENT?
Wonder how DR JOSE is doing in Little Old Ladyland this evening?
-
Good Evening!
Back from rehearsal.
-
Back from dinner. -Shrimps and grits. :)
-
TOD: I'm not sure what counts as avant gard anymore!
-
Hmmmm....nice list of WB releases (and a few Allied Artist films as well!! Glad to see they are dipping into that well)....I will be getting THE CROWDED SKY, THE OKLAHOMAN, and I WAS A COMMUNIST FOR THE FBI....eventually.
-
Back from Whole Foods. -Which turned out to have cheaper prices on produce - both conventional and organic - than Harris Teeter. -Guess I'll be buying my fruits and veggies there from now on during my stay in Charleston. *Whole Foods' "Organic Bananas" were 20 cents cheaper per pound than the regular ones at Harris Teeter. Similar price differences were noticed among the celery, carrots, apples and sweet potatoes.
-
And now I'm back at the apartment doing laundry.
-
Time to go to my sister's house, then the theater. Until later!

It's a post.

It's a palpable post.

Alas, I had the wrong "Ensemble Number" in my head earlier. Instead of being in "Little Old Ladyland", I was in "Old Bavaria". Im Frühling!

I'm not sure if this has been as well publicized in the US as it has in Canada.
But starting in June everyone will need a passport to cross the border even by land.

But starting in June everyone will need a passport to cross the border even by land.
Yep, it's been publicized. It also affects anyone taking a cruise to the Bahamas or Virgin Islands. The U.S. Passport office has started issuing "passport cards" for anyone who would prefer the convenience of carrying a card in their wallet instead of their actual passport when traveling to and from Canada.

We have one of those sales here Supposedly it has become one of the biggest in the country. It used to be book people; now there are lines of people waiting to get in hoping to find that original Picasso or Signed first edition of Dickens. You know how it is.

WHOA!
The washing machine here is labeled "Heavy Duty", and I guess it is. I just took the clothes out to put them into the dryer, and they felt like they were almost spun dry. -And it sounded like it too!

Which is a surprisingly good combination!
Indeed it is. And not-so-surprisingly rich one.
I dined at Locklears (http://www.locklears.com/mountpleasant.html) which is basically around the corner from the rehearsal studio. It was a good meal. They call themselves a "Fine Seafood" place, but it's more like a "Very Good Seafood" place - at least according to the menu choices and decor. However, since they called themselves a "Fine Seafood" place, they call their "Shrimp'n'Grits", "Rockville Shrimps And Hominy". ;) But, again, it was a very good and filling meal.

Back from the family room where we watched Michigan lose and Purdue win. They both got what they deserved.

"Scratching her ass with her hand" ... cracks (Oops!) me up! So to speak!! ;)
Me thinks her left arm should circle the title, holding a top hat!

I don't know: this looks more like drapes on a window than theater curtains!
Maybe it's BK's neighbor showing her ass-ets through her living room window.

TOD:
Back in the days, at good ol' Burbank High, the Drama group would put on an annual set of one-act plays dubbed Trio. Naturally, one of the plays in each set had to be something very "modern," which is how in successive years I became familiar with Jean-Claude van Itallie's Interview, Eugene Ionesco's The Bald Soprano (ages before Gandolfini changed the meaning of that title) and Charles Dizenzio's Sociability (which was a piece of cr@% and didn't work in the slightest).
Then I went to Fresno State for college, and their drama department didn't do theater of the absurd, mainly because theater of the absurd in Fresno would have been redundant.

I wondered what happened. I was watching but decided I really should go for a walk before the day is over. It was SO beautiful outside and it's supposed to rain for the next two days. I skipped the end of the film festival. I did the volunteering I promised to do, but really didn't feel like going back tonight.

Thank you!
You should have seen my face! I sort of started to laugh and said to my mother.

You'll either thank me for this or hate me - but Warners has taken a leaf from Arkiv Music and they're about to release a whole slew of movies via their new Warners Archive line - only available on the Internet - some incredible titles that I think we can now assume won't ever see the light of a proper release - I'm sure they're spending nothing on remastering them properly, but I think our dear readers will definitely want to get some of these.
http://www.wbshop.com/Warner-Archive/ARCHIVE,default,sc.html?prefn1=format&prefv1=Warner%20Archive&psortb1=name-sort&psortd1=1
One of the more interesting titles is one of Steve McQueen's last films and a pet project...An Enemy of the People. It played the Montreal Film Festival and I don't think it ever was released in Canada and probably played a few cities in the USA.
And I guess the Crowded Sky predated Airport 1975 by 15 years.
And my favorite film title is The Devil is A Sissy

In The Crowded sky, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. plays a small aircraft pilot who crashes his plane into the commercial jet piloted by Dana Andrews. In Airport 1975, Dana Andrews plays a small aircraft pilot who crashes his plane into the commercial jet piloted by Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

Has anyone heard any buzz about the Blu Ray release of South Pacific? I am curious if they fixed the color in the roadshow version so that the re-inserted footage matches the rest of the film. I hope it does.
Otherwise I think I will skip the release.

So, you have to bake your clothes until they're dry?
You could always grill them or perhaps saute them with a little white wine and lemon!

And if they do a Blu Ray release of Oklahoma! I hope that they fixed the color on the Todd-AO version and has a bonus feature you can watch both versions at the same time!

I wonder if this is the direction the new owners are going towards.
I wonder what poor Edith Fellows will think if she is seated at the table next to Mary Carey.Oy!

I asked the stage manager of GUYS AND DOLLS to send me a cast list, so that I can see if I knew anyone in the show. I received it earlier this evening, but it only lists last names. Hmmm.

I spent the first part of my evening watching the Blu-ray of THE ROBE. What stuck me immediately and for the entire film was how thoroughly scrubbed the image is from the monstrosity of the previous DVD release. All the specks and debris were completely gone.
Were there soft moments? Sure.
Were there scenes that looked more digitized than others? You bet!
Did flesh tones vary throughout the presentation? Yep.
And none of it mattered because watching it in this clean print with beautifully saturated color and wonderfully clear, tight sound was just a marvelous viewing and listening experience.
I had tears in my eyes on several occasions during the movie, so it worked its magic on me.
-
Next, I went to the bonus features and watched "The Making of THE ROBE."
I didn't know much about its genesis as a film, so all of that was very interesting. And Jay Robinson's stories about the production were also fun. Didn't know he wasn't first choice for Caligula either.
-
Next, I watched "The Cinemascope Story." Most of the facts in this I was aware of already, but it was still an OK little informational featurette.
-
BK, did you notice that your old co-star Gerrit Graham (the original Rodzinski) is going to be at the Burbank Hollywod show next month?

Mikey, Peter Lupus is going to be at the show and you aren't going?

Of course, now after being steeped in THE ROBE and its making, I had to take DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS off the shelf and watch that.
Entertaining, but oh boy does it now look awful compared to THE ROBE! (I felt the opposite when all we had was the old ROBE DVD.) Lots of specks and debris (especially in the first half of the film). I hope Fox won't wait too long to tackle this one for Blu-ray. It needs some attention.
I didn't quite get finished with it. There are still about 10 minutes left. I don't remember at all how it ends, so I'll look forward to that tomorrow.
-
G'night!
-
Also on tap for tomorrow afternoon will be QUO VADIS on Blu-ray. In the evening before DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, I'll likely watch '21.'

I recently got back in contact with a friend I worked with. We used to have so much fun laughing at work. When I find out he was he going to be moving, we had interviewed several people, and it became clear (to me anyway) how difficult it was finding anyone like that to brighten my work day. So, I asked him to come up with an interview question that I could ask that would insure I'd have something to talk about with whoever was hired. He said, "Name two Ethels-- if they say either Merman or Mertz, you know they're OK."

CBS Sunday Morning is doing a segment on the West Side Story revival tomorrow

Minnie Mouse wants her bow back from that nude lady!

LOL! Good one!

Has anyone heard any buzz about the Blu Ray release of South Pacific? I am curious if they fixed the color in the roadshow version so that the re-inserted footage matches the rest of the film. I hope it does.
Otherwise I think I will skip the release.
Sorry to say it, but it looks as if Fox simply either doesn't want to spend the money or someone has told them it cannot be done. Either way ... look at this WWW.DVDBEAVER.COM (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews45/south_pacific_blu-ray.htm) overview and check out the "captures".
