All bk's talk of "zipping" and "unzipping" reminds me of Lily Tomlin's "biker" character - with the leather outfit with all the [imaginary] zippers. ;D

Is anyone planning on watching the PBS series starting tomorrow, "Carrier" ?

Lovely new glasses for MR BK and DRJOSE!!

Wow...Patty Duke, Warren Berlinger, Dwayne Hickman, AND Steve Franken.

Steve and Dwayne were always at odds as characters on DOBIE GILLIS....and Warren and Patty were bf/gf in BILLIE.....
Nice pairings for us old folks.

Thank you DRs Singdaw, Jrand and BK for the wishes.
Sorry BK to hear about the transfer problems.

Feeling better and working today....oh well.
Everyone have a great Saturday.
Double run through vibes for THE BRAIN and COMPANY

GOOD MORNING!!! I am so glad we only got a dusting of snow last night. I'mm be able to go help mom today. We were going to put her kitchen at the lake back together, but the workmen didn't get the new counter in so I'm going to help get the outside furniture out of storage and move a lot of things around. It will be a nice day

To any of the NYC (and surrounding area) Hainesies and Kimlets who will be around next weekend, Thursday and Friday I'll be doing my seminar all day and staying downtown and then have plans Friday night to dine with Ben and Ant and I'm sure anyone who wants to join us. As far as I know we don't have any real plans set in stone yet other than getting together.
Saturday May 3 I'll be moving to Midtown and would really like to get together Saturday afternoon and or Saturday evening for dinner with anyone who's interested. I am going to August: Osage County at 8:00 PM, but am free from noonish until the show starts. Just let me know if you'd like to be included and I'll make sure you know what the plans are.
-
If that doesn't work, I may be able to do a Sunday breakfast/brunch. My lunch plans on Sunday aren't until 1:00 PM or so
-
Are we still on page 1?
-
Wake up everyone! It's a beautiful day..at least in my neighborhood. Cold, still snow in sight....little birds and flowers saying "It's *%#&ing cold out here!!" but it's a beautiful day nonetheless.
-
Better get dressed and get mom's birthday presents together. I'm looking forward to going there today.. The ice is out of the lake and I always love the first time I see the "soft water" every spring.
-
Have a good day everyone....laters!
-
Saturday morning greetings! Had a nice sleep-in 'til 8am and am now waiting for a call from college friend Anne. She's starting a trip south today and we may be able to visit around midday.

I have loved every single one of these people ever since I was old enough to know who they were. Always entertaining and always spot-on with performances. They each had something very special.

Good morning!
I wish I could have slept at least two hours longer, but the body said no. It's beautiful outside right now, but the paper says it's going to rain this evening.

The NARNA Blu-ray got here at 8:45 last night, and it was worth the wait. THough I think the movie is good rather than great, the Blu-ray certainly looks and sounds great - a truly superb transfer.
Little did I know it was a two disc set! So, I had dozens of documentaries, two audio commentaries to listen to, pop-up facts - the works. That's why I was nowhere to be found last night.
-
The DH and I just went bike riding [and NO, that is not a euphemism!] for the first time in...well...many, many years. It was fun! And my legs are still a bit rubbery.
-
Last night, I watched another PSYCH episode, the one where the chief had her baby. Enjoyable episode. All of them were. This ended the first half of the first season.

DR Matt H. - Did you get your review up already?

Next I watched A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. I saw it on HBO a couple of years ago and loved it, but I hadn't bothered to get the DVD. I had put it on my CHristmas list, but I didn't get it, so I bought it for myself on sale a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to watching it last night. I'd forgotten a few things (I didn't remember that he finally revealed his real identity to his wife, and I didn't remember that poignant ending either), so I enjoyed the movie all over again.
The DVD looked really good, too.
-
DR Matt H. - Did you get your review up already?
Yes, at 4:15 this morning!
;D
-
And if you can't feel better, at least you'll look great in your new frames and haircut!
-
There was a bonus feature on the disc about them presenting the movie at Cannes. Didn't Viggo Mortensen win Best Actor at Cannes for the film? Did Cronenberg win for Best Director. I will go to imdb later and look it up, but both of them should have won something. I think the film didn't get nearly enough attention the year it came out.
-
Yes, at 4:15 this morning!

Then I watched GHOST WHISPERER. There were a couple of solid shock moments in last night's show! Well done!

ZIP! I was reading Shopenhauer last night

Well, at least Disney can say they got their money's worth! :P
They went all out to get me the disc quickly (a courier brought it to the door), so I figured the least I could do was honor that commitment with a commitment of my own.

I have yet to see last night's MOONLIGHT. That will happen today while I cook and eat lunch.

Matt, I don't think you've ever said what you think of Doctor Who. It is, after all, the parent show from which Torchwood sprung, and the new season started last night on SciFi (with David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as his new companion, Donna Noble).
I mean, you don't have to like it if you don't want to, but I've been wondering what your opinion of the show is.

Cil, Important time news for your viewing of August: Osage County.
THE SHOW STARTS AT 7:30PM, NOT 8PM. Look at your ticket if you already have it to confirm. Because it runs so long the show begins a half-hour earlier. It gets out at around 11pm.
-
Interesting trivia: Timothy Spall's son, Rafe, is also an actor.
Making Rafe a SPALL off of the old Spall!

As Pricilla mentioned yesterday, we are having dinner Friday evening. We have no firm plans yet but anyone wishing to join us (in the New York area that is) is welcome. Let one of us know so we can include you in the plans.

That's what I ate for dinner last night. After two weeks, I finally was able to eat something of substance (albeit, something easily bitten into and chewed). I have to admit I ate the burgers on whole-grain white bread (very soft) and had only mustard with the burgers. But they wuz GOOD!
One can eat only so much soup, yogurt and puddin'!

Well, my visit with my college friend has been postponed until her return trip in 2 weeks. So, now I'm off to the grocery and then Richard and I will go to a late afternoon movie - Leatherheads.
Bye for now!
-
I can't brag about our temperatures today getting anywhere near the 80s that many of you have mentioned. However, we are expecting a high of 70 for today
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
Thanks for all the Travel Vibes. I had one of the easiest commutes and smoothest flights I've ever had. In fact, I didn't realize we had landed at Dulles until I looked out the window and saw that we were already on the ground already.
-
I did end up staying in bed a bit longer than I originally planned this morning, and I did consider changing to the later flight, but, instead, I splurged on a cab. At least the cab fare was less than what the change fee would have been. And I made it to JFK in only 25 minutes from my apartment (compared to the hour and a half it would have taken me on the A Train).
My brother, Don, picked me up at Dulles, and then we all headed to Red Robin for lunch. -His daughter, Alexandra, was with him. -Those new-ish Garic Fries at Red Robin sure are garlicky!!!
-
OH! And it turns out that Emily's Birthday Party was changed to tomorrow. -Which means I can nap this afternoon. :)
So...

...And, yes, August: Osage County starts at 8:00 on Saturday nights.

The entire Union Creek (http://www.unioncreekoregon.com) area is lovely.

I wish that I was going to see THE MUSIC MAN tomorrow (Cilla, I love that show). Just kidding! Actually for years after I did the show back in '66, I couldn't even stand to listen to the LP. I think it was only when I tried watching the Matthew Broderick version on television, that I really realized how much I loved the movie.
I met Shirley many years ago in Las Vegas. I still think she is one of the loveliest "film stars" that I have ever met. A very wonderful human being.

THE ONLY FLAG THAT DOESN'T FLY
Between the fields where the flag is planted, there are 9+ miles of flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown by seed companies. It's a beautiful place, close to Vandenberg AFB!
Check out the dimensions of the flag. The Floral Flag is 740 feet long and 390 feet wide and maintains the proper Flag dimensions, as described in Executive Order #10834. This Flag is 6.65 acres and is the first Floral Flag to be planted with 5 pointed stars, comprised of White Larkspur. Each Star is 24 feet in diameter; each Stripe is 30 feet wide. This Flag is estimated to contain more than 400,000 Larkspur plants, with 4-5 flower stems each, for a total of more than 2 million flowers.

April 17: Pierre the Penguin wears his wetsuit as he is put back into his home at the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,352597,00.html)
Miniature Wetsuit Puts Balding Penguin Back in Play
SAN FRANCISCO — What's black and white and warm all over? A penguin in a wetsuit, naturally.
Sounds like a joke, but it's quite serious for biologists at the California Academy of Sciences, who had a wetsuit created for an African penguin to help him get back in the swim of things.
Pierre, a venerable 25 years old, was going bald, which left him with an embarrassingly exposed, pale pink behind.
Unlike marine mammals, which have a layer of blubber to keep them warm, penguins rely on their waterproof feathers.
Without them, Pierre was unwilling to plunge into the academy's penguin tank and ended up shivering on the sidelines while his 19 peers played in the water.
"He was cold; he would shake," said Pam Schaller, a senior aquatic biologist at the academy.
Pierre's species of penguin is accustomed to temperate climates, unlike many of their cousins. The birds are nicknamed Jackass penguins because they make sounds similar to braying donkeys, quite startling the first time you hear it in an aquarium.
Schaller first tried a heat lamp to keep Pierre warm. Then she got another idea: If wetsuits help humans frolic in the chilly Pacific, why not whip up one in a slightly smaller size?
Staff at Oceanic Worldwide, a supplier of dive gear based in San Leandro, were enthusiastic about making a real penguin suit.
"We were really excited to do it," said Teo Tertel, company marketing specialist. "We heard most of these penguins only live to 20, and our little buddy there was already 25. Anything we could do to help them, we were all for it."...

Ah yes, one of the first warm Saturdays of the year. The traffic is backed-up, bumper to bumper in both directions in front of my house. Everyone is doing the loop thru Point Defiance Park.

couldst I time-travel, I would try to work up the nerve to have lunch with Miss Bette Davis, partly 'cause she's one of my faves and partly because we were both born in Lowell Mass.(She is older than I)...Yesterday,banking, errand running, travelling with Harold and Kumar, everywhere I drove I was listening to EVENING PRIMROSE. What a delight! Merci, Monsieur Kimmel.........Never watched Dr WHO, but our BBC America has a new batch of BLOOD IN THE WIRE episodes with the marvelous Robson Green....I guess he's a big UK TV star, but why no major feature films is a mystery to me.

I thought that they did, but when I went to the Kroger homepage and tried to pull-up Washington State, it said no stores.

Point Defiance Park has no Reservoir?

Hmm, time traveling to dine with a star? Most of them I wouldn't have to time travel for, because they are still alive. I would mention names, but most are not elmore favorites.
I suppose I might time travel back to September 29, 1955. I would invite James Dean over for a nice home-cooked meal. He would be so sick the next day, that he would never think of driving to the race in Salinas.

Interesting pictures today from DR TCB! :)

FJL - Once STARFIGHTER opens at The Village, are you still going to be involved in rehearsals between shows? I realize that this is a workshop production.
The reason I ask is that I believe George and I are coming up to see the show on the 24th. If you are available that afternoon, maybe we could just pick you up and go grab something to eat before the performance. I haven't asked George about this for sure, but it is a thought.

Obviously there are many stars I'd like to share a meal with. The first one that sprang to mind was Montgomery Clift.
-
Got some things watched this afternoon. I started by finishing last night's GHOST WHISPERER. I got about 42 minutes of the show watched before my package arrived.
The first part had some truly scary moments. By the end, however, I was very moved by the resolution of the story. This show often does this to me.
-
TCB - We'll definitely be rehearsing on Sat. afternoon, between the first and second presentation. Our rehearsal schedule has us called on Sat. the 24th at 2 p.m. If nothing else works out, I could have lunch with you guys before 2. But I assume that might not be convenient for you.

Hmm, time traveling to dine with a star? Most of them I wouldn't have to time travel for, because they are still alive. I would mention names, but most are not elmore favorites.

MOONLIGHT was frakkin' GREAT last night. When sexy Alex O'Laughlin went strolling down the beach with his shirt open show off that grand and glorious chest, it was heart attack time for me. God, is he gorgeous!
The plot was great in this week's episode, too, very involving, bittersweet story of Mick's life as a human.
And welcome to the show, Eric Winter, who's obviously being set up as an alternative love interest for Beth. Will be interested to see how this resolves itself.
MOONLIGHT came back with all fangs bared! Great job!

I had time to watch another PSYCH episode. This one had Shawn helping an old schoolmate of his and her father who's in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and who once was the police chief and had believed Shawn when he was accused of doing something he hadn't done.
Lots of laughs and some poignance, too, once Shawn and Gus solved the crime.
-
Tonight I will watch ALL ABOUT EVE from the next Bette Davis box. I'm eager to see the new remaster upconverted and also to see what bonus features are on the second disc. (Will Dr. Drew Casper be a part of any of them?)
Depending on the time I have left and how tired I'm feeling, I'll either watch another PSYCH episode or may watch THE OMEN (the original).

My afternoon surf was a quick one, so I'll finish up some computer stuff and then head back down to start some serious evening viewing.

Then if George is game, why don't we just leave it for the 22. Then George and I can show up at the show on the 24 and pretend we don't even know you.
-
Oh my gosh! I am so embarrassed.
About a year ago, a Carl's Jr. opened a few miles from my house. I keep meaning to try it, even though I have read all the health warnings about eating there on a regular basis. So, today, I was only a short drive away; so I decided to go in and try it. I ordered my burger and then went and sat down. When I looked around I realized that everybody in the place was huge! Now, I am not a small man, but everyone (men and women) was, at least, twice my size. I could not believe it.
The hamburger was... okay, but I was tempted to wait until nightfall to sneak out of the place.
-
But I was hoping that you would serve! It would just be the three of us........ Bernadette, Barbra, and I.
I'm waiting to hear who's sitting at DR MBarnum's table before I commit.

That didn't come out the way I meant it. I meant that then George and I could pretend to be totally unbiased audience members, rather than avid fans who know all the words to every song.

Good Afternoon!
That was a nice nap. :)
-
Hmm... I guess I really did get a good workout on out yesterday on the rowing machine. My triceps are sore(!).
-I wish that was a euphemism. ;)

Happy Birthday, Dear DR Jennifer!!!!

I would love to go for a walk with you, Jane!!!

I'm hopeful that the Primrose will bloom in OZ tomorrow morning!

DR Jose, your new glasses are very nice. I especially like the photo of you in the tinted glasses.
DR George, I like the light dusty green & your condo looks great!
DerBrucer-Sweet story about the penguin.

Tomovoz,- Awhile ago asked if anyone had read THE BOOK THIEF by the Australian author Markus Zusak. If anyone responded, I missed it. Are you familiar with him?
-
I would love to have gone for a walk with ANY of our lovely DRs this fine day.
-

It is a rumour DR Jane - we have not been familiar - no matter what he may claim.
-
Half way through A Catered Affair.

Tomovoz - That's not what I've heard! :)

Where - a village restaurant in France.
Topics of discussions: Mostly his Books

-
DR NoseAll: Well he wasn't using the name Markus - but one of my books is missing!
-
::)
I highly recommend THE BOOK THIEF. It take a bit to get into it but I think you will like his style of writing.
-
It might be "light relief" after Peter Hoeg's "The Quiet Girl". (Which is fascinating).
-
Didn't Lennie write a song called "A Quiet Girl" ?
-
I hope that DRs elmore3003 and FJL have a lovely and enjoyable outing tomorrow.
-

I doubt it. The Thief is set in Germany leading up and through WW II & is narrated by Death. ;D
-
I put THE QUIET GIRL on my list of books to read.
-
I will check the DH's traveling plans. If he's around next Friday night to take care of the dog, I'd love to come into the city and join y'all for dinner. I'll let you know if I can make it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR Cillaliz's mom! :)
Thanks DR Singdaw, but actually it was April 11. I was going to go on the 12th but was busy and weather was bad so I went this weekend, in part to deliver her birthday gifts. We had a nice visit. I helped her best friend install a new multifunction printer/copier/fax machine. It was easy, but they definitely needed help.
It was very cold and very windy at the lake. We did see a big flock of white pelicans. It's always nice when they return to nest. With all the white caps on the lake a photo wouldn't have turned out even if we did have a camera with us. I saw some coots and mom thought some cormorants, but I'm not convinced. Since the countertop isn't installed as it was supposed to be we couldn't put her kitchen back together, but we did move some furniture and get a few things done she wanted done.

Cil, Important time news for your viewing of August: Osage County.
THE SHOW STARTS AT 7:30PM, NOT 8PM. Look at your ticket if you already have it to confirm. Because it runs so long the show begins a half-hour earlier. It gets out at around 11pm.
Ben, my ticket says 8:00 PM and Playbill.com says 8:00 PM too. Maybe it changed when it moved to the Music Box
-
Sherlock walked right into the bathroom with us, and then into the shower when Keith requested he do so. He was perfect throughout. Afterwards he stood next to the pile of treats on the tub while I towel dried him, never attempting to take any.
Keith said he knows he is now a good citizen. ;)
-
Hindemith had a few bumps today. The kid I'm accompanying had been warming up in another room and left his music in that room, so when he got to the room we performed in, he was completely flustered, because they're on a strict timing schedule. He had to run halfway across a huge building, fetch his music, and run back, getting to the performance room just as the timer started the 10 minutes. The good news is, the piece is far less than 10 minutes, but I could tell Peter's nerves were shot already and his intonation was pretty poor at times.
I was completely blown away (no pun intended) by the kid who went on before. I had never heard the piece before but had a strong suspicion it was British and either by Vaughan Williams or someone of his ilk. It turned out to be by Gordon Jacob, so I feel proud of my identifying skills. :) I can't seem to find a recording anywhere, strangely.

DR George, I like the light dusty green & your condo looks great!
I didn't think his condo looked dusty.
-
I didn't take this photo, but it's an American white pelican, like the ones that nest at the lake
-
It must be fun to watch the pelican's.
-
They are really cool! They are huge birds. Today they all touched down on the lake for a couple minutes then took off and soared in the wind.
-
You needed an action camera to capture them.
-
We have some good shots from the past. They nested at the lakes once upon a time then disappeared for, oh man, 40 years or something, then they came back in the 80s and have been there ever since. When they first came back, EVERYONE was out with their cameras and there were lots of good shots. If you can get them when they are in the swampy areas where they nest, it's fairly easy to get good shot.
-
In addition to helping out we made the big trek to Wal-Mart. I did pick up a new card for my small digital camera. I realized in AZ that the only one I had was only 128k and I was filling it too quickly. I got a 2gig card today. That should make a big difference.
-
We get the white pelicans here in the winter, but you have to know where to look for them. I also see them in CA at the ocean.
-
Good Evening!
Well... That was another nice nap. ;)
-
My niece and I are currently watching "The World Magic Awards". Some very cool tricks and sleights of hand and body. Alas, there have also been a few moments of some too obviously faked anxiety and fear, but at least the magic tricks have been good.
-
Fred and Jose, thanks for the August update. They sure like to make it confusing don't they. All the publicity I've seen about the show mentions the 7:30 curtain. I never saw the caveat for the 8pm Saturday performance. I'm seeing the show on Thursday.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Jennifer!! :D
-
Back from a two run-through day, a stop at Gelson's, and I'm STILL trying to get this movie into my iMovie - Apple was very helpful this morning and found a free download thingee that converts avi files to mac friendly dv or mpeg. I began converting this morning and when I got back it was done. Unfortunately, I didn't see that it was converting in PAL - so when we went to put it in iMovie, iMovie froze once again. I'm re-converting now and it's almost done - if that doesn't work I'll either give up and just watch it on my computer in Quick Time or call Apple on Monday morning when I have time to deal with it.
-
I'm tired, Sherlock is tired (had a big day on our hike-every two minutes there was a new dog to play with :)). I know Keith is tired because he used the weed-wacker the entire time Sherlock & I were gone, poor guy.

And a Very Happy (if Belated ;)) Birthday to DR Cillaliz' Mom!! :D

TOD:
I am pretty sure that Allison Hayes is the peformer I would most like to have lunch with.
-
Had a wonderful day today...after estate sale-ing Jim and I had lunch at India Palace....then at 2pm I went to the Al-Kawari home to celebrate the birthdays of two of their kids and had some delicious and authentic Iraqi food....I have eaten a ton of food today and it was sure fun!

You mean this Eric Winter?
Yep, he's switching over from being Kevin's former boy friend on BROTHERS & SISTERS to Beth's potential love interest (and rival to Mick).
-
Had fun revisiting some favorite movies tonight.
I began with the new issue of ALL ABOUT EVE. I was curious about the two different commentaries offered, but since I love the film so much, I went ahead and watched the film with its own soundtrack and with no commentaries. I'll save those for another time.
-
I watched several of the bonus features contained on both of the discs in this set. I watched the "Backstory" on the film (produced some years ago for AMC when they actually showed classic movies.
There was a documentary on the Fox films of the great writer-director.
And I watched a documentary on the history of the Sarah Siddons Award which came into being two years after ALL ABOUT EVE was released.
-
DR George, I like the light dusty green & your condo looks great!
Thanks! I just wish it was still that clean. I've totally cluttered it up...and not in a good way. ::)
-
Next, I watched MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. The DVD came out several years ago and this is what I watched. (I was reminded about it since TCM played it at some point this week.)
Paramount didn't use a clean print for their transfer so there are speckles on the screen. It looks fairly soft, but that's how I remember it looking at the movies.
I listened to the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and Richard Rodney-Bennett's glorious score is given a wonderful spread through the surrounds in this mix.
-
Tomorrow I'll have to return to review chores with THE BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW.
-
Hoo, boy, I am more than ready to head down to bed. I kept thinking today I might take a nap to catch up on some sleep from my late night last evening, but no such luck, so I'm ready now to go to bed.
Good night!
-
I bought "The Last Lecture" today and am well into it. I'm tired, but may go curl up in bed and read a few more chapters.
-
Hi DR Megan, haven't seen you post in awhile. How are you?
-
DR Laura, your inbox is full
-
Night
-
Try now, Cillaliz.
-
I'm not burning a DVD - a two hour deal, but it seems to be working. All the wasted time trying to import the film into iMovie - that's not where it belonged. I had no idea you just dragged the dv file directly into iDVD and then click burn. Couldn't have been simpler.
-
I've had stomach problems all day - I finally ate two small ham sandwiches and I think I'm okay with that.
-
PAGE 8 DANCE!
-
Audio is being encoded. It does take a long time and whilst it's doing its thing, Ye Olde Computer runs quite slowly.
-
I wish I could encode my stomach.
-
I gotta tell you.

BK - Pepcid Complete -- the one with the red cap.

Just got a sweet e-mail from the author Marc Acito, who'd been sent a link to our site - he said he really liked it and asked if I'd put up the dates for his book tour, and I said I would as I like to do whatever I can for fellow scribes. I'm told his first book is really wonderful and he has a new one just out called Attack Of The Theater People.

Wow - DRJOSE was here and I was here and we were here with no one else...just the August 26 Birthday Boys....and now he is gone while I was catching up on the notes.
I hardly knew ye!

And remember, DR CILLA LIZ....when YOU are watching the pelicans, THEY are watching you!

I will join DR MBARNUM for lunch with Miss Allison Hayes at the Sportsmen's Lodge.

Just taking another "nap" again... So...
Goodnight.
