JohnG, don't listen to Elmore. He has no taste in motion pictures.
And don't listen to DR Laura. She falls asleep at everthing, except for plays, wherein she laughs at the dirty parts.
And yes indeed, you do want to see ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE...it is far superior than any Star Wars film ( I liked the first Star Wars...but have disliked all of the sequels and prequels).

Had my first taste of Filipino food today.
Had stopped by the Goodwill in Keizer and noticed that next door there was a grand opening for a Filipino restaurant, so I checked it out.
I had Menudo (which is different from Mexican Menudo...which is different from the band Menudo, also)
I also had Dinugauan (Pork Blood Stew). The owner (who was very suprised that I had tried it) told me it was made from the stomach lining and, when available, intestines, plus the blood, evidently.
I forget what the third item was, but it had meat and bitter melons.
All of the food was very good, but the Menudo was my favorite. I plan to go back soon and try some other dishes.

Good morning, all! I went to bed around 9 and slept reasonably well until sometime around 4 am. From then until the alarm at 6:45 i was mostly awake, thinking about various and sundried concerns.
I just canceled my late afternoon Appalachian Christmas meeting; I've got too much of WHERE'S CHARLEY? to deal with today. The first thing on my agenda is the laundry, and when that's over, I have soem Victor Herbert writing to attend to before I jimp onto the fixes for CHARLEY?
DR JohnG, I'm happy that the puerile PUPPET PEOPLE appeals to DR MBarnum's childlike approach to reality, but on a scale of 10, I place it much lower than 1, probably lower than 0.5, in fact! One man's whimsy is another man's poison.

No need to apologize. You have more pressing matters to worry about. I'm doing very well. Every day I feel better. I haven't ventured out yet. That won't happen until Tuesday when I go back to work (and of course the weather takes a turn for the worse on Monday and Tuesday). I see the surgeon on Friday and I assume I'll get an OK since I have no problems. Then I will see my primary care physician to fill him in on how it all went. But overall, I feel good.

I just spoke to Jo and Randy, and she mentioned that sleet was covering their deck. Thursday here was verty springlike and warm, but Friday the temperature dropped. Yesterday it was very chilly. Same this morning.
One interesting thing she told me: Macbeth has officially retired, but he still comes into the office o about three days a week and makes her life miserable. If I were married to Lady M, I wouldn't stay home either. If I had to choose between death and Lady M, I'd learn to appreciate being dead.

I am also a fan of LAST TANGO IN PARIS, though I don't think that it is Bertolucci's masterpiece. That honor would, IMHO, go to THE CONFORMIST.
When TANGO played in the local repertory houses, I would always make it a point to take someone new to see it with me. Not one of them were offended or bored, although they would always be going in with a chip on their shoulders because of all the talk about TANGO.
I've had the soundtrack on lp and cd, but I have never owned the movie on any format. Maybe the blu-ray is the way to go.
There are also many similarities between TANGO and AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, they would make an interesting double feature.

All went well except for the lesbian couple who decided to invade the territory around my dryer, making the logistics of removing and sorting things difficult. Here's what I do not understand: they came in just as I was leaving the laundromat after putting my clothes in the dryer for an hour. The washers take 35 minute. What the hell could they have dried in 25 minutes to be working at the dryers next to mine? Everything looked wet to me. Pisses me off. That's why I try to be first in and first out.

Hi all. Sorry I disappeared last night. I was fine and then a wave of tiredness broke over me. It felt like if I didn't lay down, I would fall down. The party may have been in full swing just outside my window but that didn't bother me. I was asleep in a matter of moments and didn't wake up until this morning.
I don't know why that happens but when it does, I can't fight it.
I had the strangest dreams as well.

I definitely agree with you on the Woody Allen film.
It was not funny.
The sad (and baffling) thing is that there were a couple of story lines in the movie that could have been hilarious, but weren't.
But, I'm not giving up on Woody yet.
Every 2-3 films, he comes up with a gem.

Well I'm off to see what the day holds. I need to go do some grocery shopping today because I was so tired when I got done with the laundry last night I didn't feel like stopping off at the grocery store.

One of the funniest moments for me in a Woody Allen movie was in that documentary he did, WILD MAN BLUES.
Near the end of the film, he goes to visit his very elderly parents, and his father (who probably never approved of his profession) says to him, something like: "Just because you made a couple of movies, that doesn't make you a big shot."
Then, we cut to the parents' bookshelf which holds all of Woody's Oscar statuettes.
I'll bet a lot of us could identify with that moment.

My wife certainly does.
I do, however, try to separate the man from his work.
On the other hand, when it comes to Mel Gibson, I find that I'm not able to do that.

DR MICHAEL S I have been watching your play on YOU TUBE. Your play makes me laugh, it is very entertaining. I understand it is a reading, and it is great to see your work done....isn't that you as the Stage Manager/Narrator reading the stage directions?
I guess I just would have liked it more if the lead guy had been a bit younger.

Social Network IS my Favorite Movie of the Year. It is a movie that speaks brilliantly (in my mind) to the times we are living in.
I suppose it is also a sign of our times I asked if it was your pick or guess. I prefer reading someone's personal choices, not what they think will win.

Having NO BANANAS was one of the reasons I had to go to the grocery store. We now have bananas, along with a chicken that's roasting in the oven and rice pudding (made with rice leftover from last night) chilling in the refrigerator. Rice pudding is one of Richard's favorites, but I've never been able to duplicate his grandmother's.

Our local community theatre is having auditions Feb. 28 and March 1 for AND MISS REARDON DRINKS A LITTLE. I've just ordered the script from the library and wondered if any DRs have suggestions for a part for me. I'm not familiar with the play.

Plot
Paul Zindel's dark comedy explores the relationship between three very different sisters after the death of their mother in the early 1960s. Having been abandoned by their father in early childhood, Catherine, Ceil and Anna Reardon were raised in a small apartment by their mother. The three ladies are educated and become members of their local school community. Anna Reardon becomes a chemistry teacher, Catherine Reardon the assistant principal and Ceil (Reardon) Adams is the superintendent of schools.
The scene of the play is in the Reardon family apartment and the story begins after sisters Catherine and Anna Reardon are living following the death of their mother. Several months of caring for her sick mother only to see her pass has left Anna suffering a severe nervous breakdown. She has become a complete hypocondriac, obsessed with animals and rabies. She is also on an extended break from school for allegedly molesting a male student. Catherine's reaction to both her mother's death and her sister's ailment has been to drink a little. She is consistently drunk throughout the show. Ceil did not have any sort of contact with the family while her mother was suffering, but rather ran off to marry her sister Catherine's boyfriend, Edward Adams (who never appears on stage).
Ceil has come to the Reardon home to coax Catherine into having Anna committed. Neither Anna nor Catherine is interested in anything their sister has to say. Half-way through dinner, which consists of zucchini and kiwi, Fleur Stein invades the family conversation. Fleur works in guidance at Anna and Catherine's school, and wishes to butter up Mrs. Adams in attempt to gain a better salary. She is very colorful and somewhat obnoxious, which her husband, Bob makes perfectly clear once he arrives.
After a humorous, but often bitter evening, Ceil demands that Anna be locked up. Catherine refuses this demand, and Ceil essentially abandons the two women to take care of each other.

I don't know where JoseP is but I thought about your meal a bit this morning. I like most Filipino food I've tried, but on my first visit to a Filipino buffet, I tried a dish that had surprise liver bits in it. Not what I would consider a pleasant surprise. So, I've asked that every time I've tried something new.

I have enjoyed plenty of Woody Allen's movies in the past, but I haven't found many to enjoy in recent years. My favorites were in the Diane Keaton era with some in the Mia era, especially "Radio Days," "Annie Hall," "Love and Death," "Shadows and Fog," "Broadway Danny Rose" and "Purple Rose of Cairo."

Well, not exactly either one, DR Jane, but several things resonated: sisters not wanting to listen to anything the other says (my Mom and Aunt), conversations about making decisions about a family member (lots of THAT going on this week), etc.

All Done! :) I've been cleaning & doing laundry since I got up this morning, including changing the sheets. I did my best not to use my right arm to clean & dust. It's tired & a little sore but not too bad. I'm having a glass of wine to relax it and hope it will be fine for PT tomorrow.

Well, my aunt is being released from the hospital and transferred to the transitional care unit at the retirement community this evening. Rei elected to stay here while my cousin went to follow along and lend support to his Mom on each end of the journey. We're now watching GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE on the Cartoon Network - is it appropriate for a 7-year-old?

Rei elected to stay here while my cousin went to follow along and lend support to his Mom on each end of the journey. We're now watching GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE on the Cartoon Network - is it appropriate for a 7-year-old?
Is DR MBarnum coming over? It's age-appropriate for him so I guess a 7-year old will like it.

I'm on a couple of jobs that are wearing me out and making me unhappy. I have been very open about wanting to leave one of them for the past year, but i'm staying, for the nonce; I feel that circumstances since January are forcing me to stay. We'll see how I feel in six months.
As to the other job, I don't like the last turn of events in the past week. I think it's time to get out of the way, so the clowns can take over the circus. There are a lot of things I will miss but too many things say get out now.

My cousin's family eats pretty much vegetarian at home, but he told me they'd eat whatever I cooked while here. Tonight, Rei ate chicken for the first time ever but he liked the corn more. We have the wishbone drying for him to share with his dad tomorrow.
The kids also don't watch much TV at home, so Rei's really enjoying cartoons here. I told my cousin that we were rotting his child's brain and he said, "It's about time someone does!"

I should have watched this DVD several weeks ago, but as they say - it is never too late. The production was very well done, in spite of the fact that the script was extremely dated. I am thinking that the buzz words "Ways and Means" were pretty new to most people, but is rather a dated term today.
The dated script did not prevent the production from landing a great many very solid belly-laughs. The success was do largely to a very talented cast. Unfortunately, a program from the production was not included with the educational DVD. Still I enjoyed all of the cast members' performances, but several really stood out The gentleman who played the son-in-law, Charlie left me cold for the first few minutes of the play, but that seemed more the fault of the script rather than the actor In fact, he turned out to be a very solid comedic actor. Still the success or failure of this play rests in the hands of the male lead, and in this production the actor in that role truly delivered. This actor was obviously a seasoned veteran. He possessed a superb comic timing and was a master of the "take."
A very enjoyable DVD.

Our local community theatre is having auditions Feb. 28 and March 1 for AND MISS REARDON DRINKS A LITTLE. I've just ordered the script from the library and wondered if any DRs have suggestions for a part for me. I'm not familiar with the play.

Story was about an amnesia victim found, bloody and beaten, in the desert. Eventually, the guy begins to remember bits of his recent past, but only that he was recently married and that his new wife (who he had known for ony 4 days) has gone missing during their honeymoon.
The trailer is pretty nifty, give it a watch.

After Kitty has her dinner of canned food she has to be locked in the bathroom for about 15 minutes in case she barfs up the canned food. I should have gone in sooner to check on her because a good portion of the food was pushed against the side of the dish and needed fixing so she could finish her dinner. Now I have to wait another 15 minutes to be on the safe side. After Craig had to scrub up her mess under the bed he began putting her in the bathroom.

The work session with the MD was short and good. Then The Singer came and we got something to eat and then ran her show from start to finish - my favorite part, figuring out exactly what the patter is. We did all of it and now she's gone home to type it all up. I must say, the structure of her show and the song selection is aces. It even (at her request) includes a BK song.

Thank goodness the Girl Scout cookies have shrunk in size because I shouldn't eat them anymore. Every year I get sick & say I'm not buying them next year. If I had any kind of self control I would only eat a couple of them a day and then I would be fine, but nooooo I have to eat them until I'm good & sick. ::)

Good day for movies. Watched "Framed" this afternoon, from Masterpiece Contemporary. Really fun. The National Gallery in London floods, and the curator has to move all of the paintings to Wales to be safe. There he finds some wonderful characters, just out of "Local Hero," and, of course, love.
Then a group from church decided it wanted to watch the Raul Esparza DVD of "Company." I may have missed the full orchestrations, but Esparza's performance is great.
Last but not least, the Busby Berkeley film "Hollywood hotel," with Dick Powell, Benny Goodman and more. Too bad, Ronald Reagan was in there playing a radio announcer. He was smarmy, which is most apt.
