Well, you've read the notes, the notes counted down, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently cownting down to 2009.

The Yellow Brick Road will no longer run to Studio City:

Quote

Longtime customers say goodbye to Sportsmen's Lodge

After thousands of receptions, weddings and other parties, the San Fernando Valley landmark is about to change.

On New Year's Day, the Sportsmen's Lodge and its collection of well-known eateries, including the Caribou Restaurant, Muddy Moose Bar & Lounge and a handful of banquet rooms, will be temporarily shut down for remodeling. A new owner plans to reopen the historic venue in Studio City as a modern restaurant and boutique shopping center, perhaps with a new name.

Out with the old - in with the new!

Tradition.

A QUESTION

The Governor of New York must appoint a Senatorial replacement for Den. Clinton.

He obviously will appoint a Democrat.

As the most junior Senator (until MN works itself out) we would suppose that any nominee would basically follow the Democrat Party line on the major issues of the day.

It would seem the real issue is which candidate could do the best job representing the parochial interests of New York State. That means New Yorkers want someone who can generated some clout in the Senate.

Does anyone think any potential candidate could possibly have as much Senatorial clout as the niece of the most powerful Senators in Washington?

Even if Caroline Kennedy's most serious reading is Vanity Fair, she could still bring home the bacon.

Why would a New Yorker consider anyone else?

I saw one of the worst movies I've seen in my life. The audience was awash in laughter although the movie was not a comedy. The film is called The Spirit and I am hoping that Samuel L Jackson received big bucks for this film. This was not one of his finest hours. Way way over the top. I went to it because I enjoyed Sin City and this film was a big mistake. In my opinion Frank Miller has no talent as a director and even though he directed a portion of Sin City I am sure that the main director Robert Rodriguez was there looking over his shoulder. I wish I could describe every moment that was bad. My friend and I would look at each other in disbelief at what we were watching. The highpoint (and I will it at that) was when Mr. Jackson appear in a Gestapo uniform.

DR Vixmom, I'm sorry I didn't post the name of the move but DR Matt did.

I don't remember how long ago or what channel I happened to stop on but it took me awhile to even realize what I was watching.  I know it was something about a top.  Like I said, it wasn't the same actors.  When it hit me that it was the same family, I wanted to see the whole movie but never did.

After this years 24 hour Christmas Story marathon, I decided to try to find it.  I did a google search the looked for it on Netflix but no luck.  The I went to Ebay and there it was.  I thought it would be nice to have it in my collection--even if it isn't as good as the first one.

I would be more then happy to let you borrow it, if you would like.  I don't know when it will arrive but it should be soon.

Good morning, all! This is my last full day in Ohio and I'm getting antsy about returning to NYC. Jo and Randy have been great hosts and I've had a wonderful time, but I'm eager to return to my own bed and my own space. I'm sure Randy and Jo will like having the house to themselves. I understand that Macbeth may offer me an amount for my share of the house, but I'm also pretty sure it's less than I want to settle for. I've given him my rock bottom price. My cousin Sue told me yesterday that she went to Lady M's father's funeral and that Lady M was cold and rude. Quelle surprise!

Today, I will work a bit on BABES, and around 2, I will head over to my friend Loyce's to help her prepare today's Do. I think there will be around 12 people, 4 of whom I've not seen since I moved to New York in 1979, and i'm looking forward to that.

DR TCB, I hope that Stan is finally at peace and I send my condolences.

Happy Birthday to DR Julie! I miss her and I hope to see her soon.

Post by: Ron Pulliam on December 28, 2008, 07:22:37 AM
Yesterday, I watched the last 30 minutes of a 1946 20th Century-Fox film called "Sentimental Journey."

Lest you forget the title during the course of the movie, the tune "Sentimental Journey" turns up at the most opportune moments, much to the dismay of a distraught John Payne who is heartsick at the loss of his great love Maureen O'Hara who, earlier, had clutched at her heart and then expired on screen.

And there is a little girl played by Connie Marshall who is way too adult for a little girl in the slavish devotion she attempts to provide to her "foster" father Payne.

And then there is William Bendix in every scene with Payne, including the two of them in dressing gowns when Payne puts Marshall to bed.  One gets the impression that Bendix will be cuddling with Payne.

But no, not in 1946.  Surely not.

The film is lugubrious, but that is not why I recommend it to all and one.  No, I recommend it to all and one because this film -- SURELY -- must be the first ever to use excessive faux greenery in all of its set dressings.

When I first began watching, Bendix and Payne were having a discussion in a hallway.  In the middle of them, on a wall, was surely one of the most luxuriant, and worst, faux "ivy" plants ever to disgrace Michael's or any other "faux" plant haven.  I imagined that Payne, himself, felt he was being upstaged in this scene.  The faux ivy jutted out from the wall and he brushed against it several times during his long conversation with Bendix.

In every room, there are vases of faux flowers on  the tables.  On the floor on each side of said tables are pots of faux greenery.

The set dresser MUST have been one of the earliest proponents of bringing nature from the out of doors to the in of doors -- I've never seen a 20th Century-Fox film so afflicted with attention-calling faux anything that distracted from the otherwise-banal proceedings of the screenplay and acting.

It was all too-too faux...all that greenery.  It was a relief, in fact, when one of the final scenes was at the beach...and Marshall was sitting on a rock near the crashing waves.  She had run away when Payne had gotten cross with her.  Here at the sea, she was attempting to speak to O'Hara who frequently appeared to her in the film after having clutched her heart and expired on screen.  Every time O'Hara appeared, she would tell Marshall all the things she must do to make Payne happy -- telling her what foods she must see he got, how he loved music with his meal.  Both, while O'Hara was alive (before clutching her heart and expiring on screen) lived to make life as warm and cozy for Payne as possible.  As Marshall was a young lass at the time, Payne couldn't accept such kindnesses from her and even considered sending her to an orphanage (another reason Marshall ran away to the sea).  Never mind that O'Hara and Payne, who were childless, actually "found" Marshall by the sea...as if provided by Poseidon or Neptune, himself.  O'Hara did appear one more time, as it turns out, to let Marshall know that Payne does love her and won't send her to an orphanage.  O'Hara also tells her that she will see her again, only in a different way.  Marshall and Payne will each see O'Hara...in each other's eyes.  One presumes that O'Hara will make one final clutch at her heart and ascend toward the light before "it" expires on the screen.

At any rate, one of the final scenes was by the sea (rear projection, of course).  And Marshall, on that rock, was safe from being swept out to (the rear-projection) sea until Payne turned up and called out to her.  As she jumped off the rock and ran toward his voice she, somehow (and mysteriously) got lost in a maze of the same rock on which she had sat, only the sea got closer and closer.  In the nick of time, Payne turned up to see the sea sweep into the set with the rock and rescue Marshall from the foot or so of faux sea water on the set floor surrounding the rock.

All's well that ended well, I suppose.  Every table and wall in Payne's home remained bedecked with the faux greenery, and, presumably, he and Marshall (and Bendix) lived happily ever after (dusting off the faux greenery in the process) as yearning strains of "Sentimental Journey" played steadfastly in the background.

It was a movie everyone should see once...just to experience the fauxness of it all.

The film that DR RLP discusses was of course REMADE by 20th Century-Fox in 1958 starring Robert Stack and friend of DR ELMORE Lauren Bacall in the Payne/O'Hara roles.

It also featured friend of DR MBARNUM Miss Evelyn Rudie as The Child Hetty.

I have not seen it for many years, so I cannot say if the plants, foliage, and shrubbery also made repeats appearances in the CinemaScope version.

TCB - I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences.

A happy birthday to our Julie! (So many December birthdays!)

Today is my cousin Tina's birthday party - I'm shlepping over to Costco to pick up her cake and then to the airport to pick up the neighbor lady who helped her so much while I was commuting back and forth, to and from Winnemucca, to get her relocated. That's the birthday surprise!!!

It's her first birthday party since she was a little kid. She is the only daughter of my late Uncle Morey - who owned the Kiru Restaurant with BK's dad, back in the day. Anyway, she has adjusted very well to assisted living and having the family (except her brother Jeff) so near and available. The less said about Jeff Orloff, the better...

I had a great time at the family Hanukah partay last night, at the home of my sister Rikki's son, Jeremy, and his wife. Freshly fried potato latkes with sour cream and caviar, brisket, salad, wads of special cheeses and grapes, a medley of winter vegetables, and Rikki's fresh blackberry cobbler and hand-made English butter toffee.

We had all agreed NO GIFTS, except for something none-too-extreme for Tami's grandchild. Fine - then Rikki brought everyone original art depicting the ol' days in LA - Kiddieland where the Beverly Center is now, Hamilton High, Santa Monica Pier, and LA Airport when it was very new and Space Age-looking. I got the Hamilton High piece... And Tami - who is a demented shopaholic - decimated the Macy's sweater department and gave all and sundried assembled each a sweater. Mike and I just rolled our eyes - no gifts, right?? Says Tami, "It was all on sale!" Says Rikki, "I already had them, and had never hung them!"

There will be gifts aplenty, I tell you, for Tina today!! Her Dear Brother Jeff actually sent a present - apparently some tiny hotel soaps and hair conditioner and lotion from one of his vacations. Nice. She was totally thrilled, of course - considering ANY attention from him AT ALL manna from heaven. <sigh>

The only other gift I sent was to the director of this theater, who gave me this cool job - a copy of - What Else?? - Jewish Thighs on Broadway: Misadventures of a Little Trouper. He and his wife are WAY literary! Oh, and I did bring a Do-It-Yourself Little Golden Book to Bruce on Christmas Eve. Phone calls and personal letters and visiting - that's what my holiday season has been this year. I do love it.

So, okay -- what else?? Oh, yes - I'm leaving Tina's (great shame - we used to call her Tuna when we were little kids) party early, to get to 'work' at the rehab clinic. Today we'll do white pencil mandalas on black paper. I do love that.

I just read that Davy Lee has passed away.

For those of you who have not heard of him, Davy was "Sonny Boy," the little kid that Al Jolson sang to in THE SINGING FOOL.

When we did a production of my 1-person Al Jolson play in Los Angeles back in the 1980s, Davy attended a performance and, when the actor playing Jolson started singing "Sonny Boy," he invited Davy up on stage, sat him on his knee and they sang the song together.

It was quite a moment.

Davy succumbed to the effects of a stroke, which had placed him in a nursing home, on June 17, 2008.

I don't know when it will arrive but it should be soon.

 thanks I am going to try and order it form blockbuster.com - I am not very good at mailing things so if you send it to me it may be many many monns befoer you ever see it again - but thank you very much for the offer!

I hope you are feeling better this morning

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I believe my parents, my brother, Mike, his three kids and Don's daughter have just hit the New Jersey Turnpike.  And by "hit", I do mean "arrived", "started on".  It's Sunday, no "hitting" of any sort is allowed.  Well, maybe "hitting on", but... ;)

*I'm glad I "suggested" that they see the 7:00 show tonight at Radio City instead of the 4:00.

bk - I'm sorry you didn't have a better choice of movies to see yesterday.  -Now I'm trying to figure out what the official release date is supposed to be for "Last Chance Harvey".  I thought it was supposed to be an early 2009 release.  I guess not.

*Although, it's interesting that "The Soloist" got pushed to Spring 2009 - it's third change of date.  Alas, from the trailer, it looks like they've manufactured a "meet cute" for the two main characters.  And I already know I'm going to have an issue going to see the movie since Jamie Foxx is starring opposite Robert Downey, Jr.  :-\

Sadly, any movie is suspect lately when Samuel L. Jackson is listed among its stars. :-\

However... From the trailers, it seemed liked the movie was set up to be some sort of Graphic Novel-inspired camp fest.  Could you tell if anyone in the theater was actually laughing and not feeling "guilty" about laughing at the movie?

Longtime customers say goodbye to Sportsmen's Lodge

On New Year's Day, the Sportsmen's Lodge and its collection of well-known eateries, including the Caribou Restaurant, Muddy Moose Bar & Lounge and a handful of banquet rooms, will be temporarily shut down for remodeling. A new owner plans to reopen the historic venue in Studio City as a modern restaurant and boutique shopping center, perhaps with a new name.

Out with the old - in with the new!

Apparently the guy had many, many things wrong with him.  Bryan works with a small team of people on one cadaver & they have to try & find everything that was wrong.  I think they are supposed to determine the cause of death & this guy is a real challenge on that one.  It could have been multiple problems after multiple surgeries.  He didn't survive the last one, but why may never be determined.  I think it was very nice of the guy to donate his body to the medical students.

DR JMK, LOL-it wasn't at dinner.  Not that I would mind, I am the daughter of a doctor & that was often our dinner conversation.  When my brother was in medical school I found dinner time fascinating.

Bryan was rather surprised I wanted to see some of the photos he was looking at in his medical book.  He kept saying they were rather gross & I kept reminding him I  read my father's medical magazines beginning at a young age.  I was terrible as a kid.  I would enjoy the magazines & then show the most horrible looking photos to my friends.  I just loved watching their reactions. ;D

Hello, everyone.
Marvelous Matt left just a little while ago. We were packing many of the basement items. The rest of the house doesn't worry me, but the basement was quite daunting. What to keep, what to toss? Oy! Matt was a big help and we made a lot of progress.

We will be having a walk-through either Monday or Tuesday, so I also had to do some cleaning and tidying. Let me tell you, packing creates much disorder! The house won't be presentable in the usual sense, but it will be presentable provided one understands that I'm preparing for a move--and that should be good enough. I truly hope there are no last-minute surprises. Once we settle, I think my body will INSIST on rest. You know, "NO! I am NOT going to do a little bit more!"

Sadly, any movie is suspect lately when Samuel L. Jackson is listed among its stars. :-\

So sad. He used to be one of my favorite film actors. He and Spacey MADE the movie THE NEGOTIATOR something special with their brilliant give-and-take.

Now, I usually can't stand to see him in anything.

I watched an NCIS episode from season 3 while I ate lunch. Probie McGee shot an undercover cop and the police were trying to prove negligent homicide. I had the bad guy pretty much picked out early on, but it was still an entertaining episode.

I spent most of the afternoon with the Blu-ray of DISASTER MOVIE. These movies are so lame because they aren't written well enough to take a movie like AIRPLANE! did with ZERO HOUR and spend the entire movie spoofing it. These new spoofs have to throw in every movie, TV show, TV commercial, and media personality they can shove into the movie for one or two "jokes," (in quotes because they didn't make me laugh.) So, you have unconnected movies like ENCHANTED and BEOWULF and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL mixed in with AMERICAN GLADIATOR and Dr. Phil and Michael Jackson and Jessica Simpson, and it's just pathetic.

And there are talented improv artists in this cast. But the kitchen-sink mentality of the composition of the films doesn't give them a chance to do anything original or funny.
Title: Re: COUNTDOWN TO 2009

And the bonus features were worse. A bunch of off-the-cuff featurettes where actors interview actors or let a couple of them just riff for five or ten minutes about nothing remotely connected to making the movie.

DR JoseSPiano -- I seriously doubt I'd have made it through to the final 30 minutes of the movie.  I'm guessing the final 30 minutes is where all the truly interesting things happened.

As for the film's faux greenery -- this film could very well have been inspiration for writer John Wyndham's "The Day of the Triffids"!  :)

I like all of the agents; their chemistry together is what makes the show work so well. Tony's horndog personality is played up just a little too much in these episodes. It tones down a little in succeeding seasons.

If I had to say one person in the cast I didn't like (not counting Lauren Holly whom I really dislike but who is no longer on the show), I'd say Abby. Her goth weirdness has worn VERY thin over the years.

Friday in addition to family dog shopping we also dud TV "looking" - which of course means buying.

SIL wanted to "maximize the set size (biggest set to fit in his TV cabinet) - which meant a 37" 720p. They had no Plasma 37s so it was down to a Vizio or spend $200 more for a Sharp. SIL thought the Sharp had a better picture (discussions about "tuning" fell on deaf ears). Grandpa picked up an inexpensive up-convert DVD player and HDMI cable to add to the pile. Well neither SIL or daughter wanted to buy the new DVD player ("The one we have is good enough"). I channeled MATTH and talked about scan lines and resolution and the fact that their DVDs already had "more quality" than they have seen so far - all to little avail.

Also, dear daughter doesn't want to spring for the extra bucks to upgrade their Direct TV service to HD! (And they are not in a clear reception area for broadcast TV)

So we are spending an extra $200 to get a better quality HDTV on which we plan to watch only SD satellite TV and non-up-converted DVDs? Of course Wal-Mart doesn't provide any side-by-side comparison capability to show the differences (I even overheard one employee inform a customer that the sets on display were not showing HDTV, just regular satellite - which I seriously doubt).

I finally prevailed on the up-converter (I think they were unconvinced but humoring me).

Jane will appreciate what a razor's edge parents walk when trying to guide adult children.

der Brucer

Upgrading to HD satellite is going to be a harder sell - Direct TV is quite obscure about what the net monthy cost change will be for an upgrade - not to mention the possible installation costs for a new dish.

How long will it be before the majority of TV will be 16x9?

An amusing Bengali film about a guy who gets a job in a female-only run office.

Of course since the film is Bengali it is not actually a Bollywood movie, but rather a Tollywood movie as the film industry in that part of the country is centered in Tollygunge, Kolkota. Before it was known as Tollywood it was just known as Bengali Film Industry.

Of course, the Sportsman's Lodge plays a small but important role in the novel Benjamin Kritzer.

It was at the Sportman's Lodge I first knew I wanted to be a vegetarian, long before I ever heard the word vegetarian.   That was when they kept the pond stocked for fishing.  My father took me and we had a great time catching fish, until we went into the kitchen to watch them cut the heads off.  My fish was still alive & I begged them not to do it.  I wanted to put it back in the pond.  They all laughed at me & I watched while the head was chopped off.  Of course my father never took me fishing again.

Aside from that it was a very nice experience & I have had many other memories of the lodge, including our 30th high school reunion.

Today I painted the basement hallway which includes 5 doors and the ceiling.  It looks great.

Then I decided to change the flange behind the handle in the shower because it seemed rusty...I couldn't figure out why.  I went to 7 stores to find the right one and when I tried to take the handle off I discovered it's rusted on or something.   Then I realized that it's leaking from the handle and I could hear a drip but not see one.  It occurred to me that it must be leaking in the wall.  YIKES!!!!

So I have turned off the water to the house (there isn't an independent shut off for the shower) and left a message for the plumber to call me first thing in the morning.   The biggest problem is that the only way to get to the pipes will be to tear out the ceramic tile.  I think the wall on the other side is cement.   So if it has been leaking in the wall, it may be going to the drain.  I can hear it but I couldn't find any damage.

So I would appreciate any vibes.  I'm going to do without water tonight rather than pay the emergency rates.  I knew that I may have problems with the shower at some point, I really don't want to have to pay to have it totally redone, but I can't have leaking water, so I'm hoping for the best.

Miss Allison Hayes attended many birthday parties at the Sportsmen's Lodge as the date of Mr Sy Devore...

I wonder if he was any relation to Shirley....who lived in Manhattan on 5 Riverside Drive in apartment 29 E?

It is indeed the Bell Ringing season DR Ron.

Have a safe journey home.

Thanks DR Laura.  I am just glad that I haven't had a flood from a broken or leaking pipe.  My parents just went through that and it was a nightmare.  I've decided not to stress about it. There isn't anything i can do about it, so I'll just take it as it comes.  I have just started working on that bathroom and plan to wall paper and paint. If I have to do more, well I'll have to do more,.

Maybe the new owners can open a restaurant just for you "The Tofu Palace".

I am very sorry to report that 1940s actress Ann Savage passed away yesterday at age 87. Many here may remember her as the leading lady in the film noir DETOUR. She also appeared in the recent film MY WINNIPEG.

I remember her best as the wannabe actress in the Blondie film FOOTLIGHT GLAMOUR.

Just the memories of a little girl who wanted to be a real princes, afterall she could feel the pea under the mattress.

As for that expression, I'm taking it the way it was meant however  :) and in this context is it funny, however......I really dislike it.  Oddly enough I've know more Jewish women who use it than anyone else.  Boy, do I get on them for that.  I find it interesting I never even heard of it until someone asked me if I was one, that was in my mid-twenties.

I just had to say that ;)

I had no idea it was suppose to be graphic novel camp fest. If they were trying at that then did not succeed. It did successfully gave the feeling of a graphic novel a la Sin City, but other than that, Yech!

People were laughing at the movie because what we were watching was inept and unbelievable bad. Several people did get up and leave the theater. It had been a long time since I've seen that happen.

I am also home from the partay and what a swell party it was. I saw friends I had not seen in 30 years, and it was great to see them.  Loyce was a wonderful hostess and I'm grateful that she put the event together. Before the partay, i stopped at the cemetary to visit with Mom and Dad and to visit the grave of an old love who died in 1979 at the age of 22.

I think I will now head upstairs, go to bed, read a few chapters of THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and crash. Tomorrow morning, first thing, i have to run to Fed Ex to drop off my two cartons of work and pick up a carton to pack all my Christmas possessions and my old coat, which I will drop off to the Miamisburg Fed Ex Center on my way to the Dayton airport.

I'll be begging for travel vibes in the morning!

How many of you have local TV channels that have fully converted to HDTV (meaning even the local news shows are done in HDTV)?

How long will it be before the majority of TV will be 16x9?

When we get HDTV broadcasts on a standard TV will we get the sides chopped off or will it be letterboxed.

der Brucer

All but one channel that does local news have gone HD. I'm guessing once the analog feeds are cut and every broadcast is digital, 4:3 TVs will see those HD news broadcasts letterboxed, but that's just a guess.

Next I watched THE INVISIBLE BOY on HD-DVD. It's one of the bonus features on the FODBIDDEN PLANET HD-DVD, and here is this little 1957 programmer in 1080p! Warners did no clean-up on their master, so there are scratches and dirt from time to time. But it really does look quite good.

The story fooled me. I was sure it would all turn out to be a dream. That it didn't disappointed me as the story ended up being ridiculous even for sci-fi. The little boy with just a 130 I.Q. suddenly has the expertise to rebuild Robby and beat his genius dad at chess in six moves? Uh, no.

I had no idea it was suppose to be graphic novel camp fest. If they were trying at that then did not succeed. It did successfully gave the feeling of a graphic novel a la Sin City, but other than that, Yech!

People were laughing at the movie because what we were watching was inept and unbelievable bad. Several people did get up and leave the theater. It had been a long time since I've seen that happen.

This is such a shame because I love The Spirit comics.  I was holding out some hope for this even though it clearly looked like Frank Miller was filming it as SIN CITY REDEUX.  From what I've been hearing, this movie makes DICK TRACY look like a masterpiece.

So... I guess I'll start with the "bad"...

When I left the apartment earlier, I was all set to meet my family somewhere around Times Square to meet them before they went to see "The Radio City Christmas Spectacular".  And to give them the tickets to said Christmas Spectacular.  Well...

Just as the train was pulling into Columbus Circle, I checked my coat pocket for the tickets, their tickets.  Not in my coat pocket... Not in my jeans... Not in my bag... Not in my coat (again)!!!!

Thankfully and fortunately, there was an uptown express train that had just pulled in across the platform, so, as soon as my train doors opened, I made a mad dash up the stairs, across to the other side, back down those stairs, and onto to the train... "Next stop, 125th Street."

WHEW!

I actually ended up making it back uptown and downtown in about 28 minutes - WITH the tickets in hand.  And for that "record", I would like to profusely thank the NYC MTA!  ;)

So... I get off the train at 50th Street, and once I'm above ground, I call my brother.  He was just leaving the hotel to head to the ferry in Weehawken.  Well, that was OK, since it was still relatively early, and they had plenty of time to make it into the city.

About a half hour later... I called my brother again.  They had just pulled into Pier 39, and were heading to the shuttle bus which was going to take them directly to Radio City Music Hall.  Well... There was still a good 30 minutes or so before I had to head downtown to the Public to see Road Show, and I would get a few minutes to see everyone before they went to Radio City.  Well...

About fifteen minutes later... I called my brother again.  "Where are you? Where's the bus?"  They were still over on 50th & 8th, stuck in traffic.  -Which is what I was afraid of, since I could tell that hardly anything was moving on the streets.  I told him that it would be faster for them to get out and walk at that point.  So, at the next "stop" they did.  Well...

About five minutes later... I called my brother again.  "Where are you now?.... OH!  You're walking the wrong way!!!  Turn around!"  So...

Finally around 6:10, I met them on the corner of 50th & 7th - a block from RCMH.

Whew!

-Almost...

Once we met on the corner of 50th & 7th, we exchanged hugs, then...

My father realized that he had left his bag on either the ferry or the shuttle bus.  In the bag were two umbrellas... and my Christmas present from my brother, Don. :(

Well, I gave them the tickets.  They headed over to Radio City, and headed down to 49th to catch the train down to Astor Place.

*I did meet up with my parents after our shows, and I repeatedly asked my Dad if that was really was all that was in his bag.  He said it was.  They had their cameras and their wallets on them.  However, since I've learned - and re-learned quite recently - that my parents tend to play down some "seriousness", I just really hope that they were telling me the truth.  My Mom actually gave me a dollar figure for the gift that my brother gave me, however, knowing the usual generosity of my brother, I wouldn't be surprised if there was another zero on the actual price.  I hope I'm wrong this time, but since it was a watch - a very nice brand of watch - I may not be.  :-\

And now for the good...

First of all, many, many Thank You's to DR FJL for inviting me to come along tonight.  I had planned to see Road Show, but with all the unexpected busy-ness over the past couple of weeks, it just got away from me.  So, it was truly an unexpected treat to be able to see the show tonight - and on it's closing night too.

Yes, it does sound like a "Sondheim Show", but isn't/wasn't it supposed to?  I remember the original Wise Guys workshop, as well a Bounce, and knowing how much of the material of this show fits chronologically in Sondheim's output, it all made "sense" to me.

I thought the performances of Alex Gemignani and Michael Cerveris were wonderful, and they were surrounded by a supporting cast of some Sondheim "regulars", as well as a few newer faces and voices - including DR FJL's dear friend, Bill Parry.

And Mr. Sondheim, himself, was in attendance tonight - semi-sneaking into his seat a few minutes before the show started.

Although, when I was walking through Times Square earlier, there was a major promo for the new-ish m&m's Premiums.  They had people giving out boxes - the regular sized boxes of them!  Apparently, they really wanted to give them out.  So much so that I ended up with six boxes of them.  Alas, I only ended up with one box of the Chocolate Mint ones and five of the Raspberry Almond.  ;)

Just got home from a long day -- good but nothing how I planned it to be.   Ah, the laid plans of mice of men....

Met some friends from out of town for a last brunch before they leave (unfortunately it was at the the same time as church).  The group of us all seemed to have run into ex-husbands recently in a jovial sort of way.  We were then standing around outside enjoying the sunshine and decided to avail ourselves of a free ride on the metro rail system that has more or less screwed up the entire city for a few years now.  The train cars themselves were nice, but I am not impressed with the system itself.  I try to be open-minded, but it is in the wrong place, screwed up one of the prettiest boulevards in town and is not done right.  If I can go to a city in which I do not even speak the language and easiy figure out their metro system, then I consider that a success.  Knowing this city and the language and still not being able to figure out the system does not bode well.

~~~Plumbing Vibes for Cillaliz!!~~~
Earlier today, I downloaded a DVD of a show (I won't say what it is, because it was never commercially released or available ::)).  However, it was professionally shot with multiple cameras. :D It looks like it could be a commercially released DVD, but just wasn't.  Anyway, the site where I found it also had a .png image of a cover for it.  I printed it on glossy photo paper and it looks beautiful EXCEPT on the front, it says "Das Musical" (it's German, so that's okay), but on the back side it says "Das Grusical."  Grusical??  I didn't realize this until after I had printed it on the high quality setting. :-\
The only problem (and it's a very minor problem) is that there are no subtitles, so I don't know exactly what they're singing.  I am familiar with the story, so I have an idea of what's going on, but nothing specific.  I think I'll keep it anyway. :)
I've been putting this lotion on my cat's paws but it's not easy.  She obviously doesn't want me to do it, but it must be done.  I just hope that she eventually gets used to it, because I've got two and a half more weeks of this. :P
It's for her own good!
Well, I hate to post and run, but I've got a bit of a headache, so I'm off to sleep.
Good night...whoever might be lurking.
