Re Indian food - I was traveling in London in 1989 with a friend's family, and we discovered how tough it was to get used to the UK version of burgers and such, so we played it safe and had Indian food almost every night.

Before my next trip there (in 1995), we did research and located some reasonably priced places that the guidebooks suggested would be appealing to Americans.

Good morning, all!

I was in bed by 9 last night and slept till 5:15 am, but I refused to get out of bed. I must have dozed back off because it was suddenly 6:30. I decided the time had come to get out of bed. I'm off to Toyland in another 10 minutes or so  and I have a rather long day there.

I'm now at Toyland and it should be quiet here today, which is fine with me. My first goal is to find the copies of the Gavotte parts from the Victor Herbert Concert Orchestra books and enter the violin bowings.

After that, i've got a bunch of notes to write up.

Fortunately, a catastrophe did not ensue...

re: the hives on my neck.

I don't know that you'd call them hives. But that was the best description i could come up with (red and sort of like a rash).

No i was not wearing a scarf.

And i don't think i ate anything i haven't eaten a million times.

I did have on my winter jacket that zips up quite high covering my neck. And i did (the day before) wash it with soap because my make-up had left a mark. I wonder if this soap could have irritated my neck?

I can't say for sure which teams will be my favorites. But interestingly i looked at all the teams closely a few days ago. So i already had some opinions.  Teams that i like are similar to the teams i thought i would like. I really like the asain brother/sister team. They seem smart and nice.  I also like the red heads. I don't know why. Not sure yet if they are smart. But there was just something about them ... even from their pics. They are stunning. And i didn't find them at all annoying last night. I really would like to have a fantastic all-women team. One team i hate is the hick husband/wife team. Granted he did amazing in the physical challenge. But they seem so dumb. After doing so well in that physical challenge they let 3 teams pass them because they could not find their way to the pitstop.
The team i am most interested/curious about is the mother and deaf son. I was shocked they ended up first. That is amazing. I just wonder how they will progress. There are so many challenges where teammates are separated. And often they have to communicate with locales. I am just curious if the mom will take any challenge that seems like it will involve talking or asking directions. Or the allowances they will make for this. Will they allow the mom to help? Very curious about this.  I was happy the flight attendants were not eliminated. That was quite surprising. Cool that they made finding the pit stop a bit difficult. Wow that bungee jump looked horrible.dfasjlk dfskljdfsjkl dfsjkllkjfjlkdfjlklkjdfslkjlkjkjljlklkjjklkjlkjll kjlkjkl
I'm not sure what to make about the other dating couple (they didn't show them much). Although the team that came last that woman would not have lasted long. She didn't carry the cheese or walk to the pit stop. Why the heck was he carrying her??? The stuntmen look interesting? How tall are they? At least they are not afraid of any of the scary tasks. the  older husband/wife seem interesting. I like that they are very physically fit and seem well travelled. I don't care about the black sister team. I don't see them going far. I do like the gay father/son team. They seem fun and funny. And OMG watching them roll down the hill was too funny!
All in all great premiere. Although interesting they did not show them driving to the airport.  Or how they chose their flights. dsoiudsfouidfsoiudfoiupdfoiuoiuoiuoiu

Monday morning greetings!  I was up early to see Rob and Mary Linda off to Cincinnati and then went back to sleep on my Cleopatra couch.

I thought that the librarians amongst us might find this article interesting...

Thanks for posting this DR DAW!  The job I had before going to work for Dayton Metro Library was as an adjunct instructor in the teacher education department at Miami University.  I taught every prospective teacher, pre-K through high school, an information skills module in which I tried to teach them how to work with a library media specialist like Ms. Rosalia.  Unfortulately, most of them would end up teaching in districts that had cut the LMS position and downsized or eliminated their school libraries.  Didn't stop me from feeling a great sense of mission.  If Miami had been willing to make that a permanent position I'd probably have retired from there instead of from the public library in Dayton.

Well, the stump was ground up in record time--it took the guy a little over an hour to do the job.  I was worried last week that this would not get accomplished at all--when public services came by last week to mark out where the underground lines layed, they marked a blue line across the stump, indicating the water line.  I had to go back and forth on the phone a number of times during the week to find out how deep the line was beneath the ground and that the service valve was out of the way before convincing the stump grinder guy that it would be okay to do his work.  But the job is now done and I have to figure out what to do with the pile of wood chips.  I dont like using this stuff for mulch--it's really not a good quality.  My brother-in-law might come by later today to see if he wants to use it around his swimming pool.

In other library news, here's what's happening in the county just north of where I used to work.  Rachelle is a former coworker of mine and I'm sorry her first year of directorship is this stressful.

I don't have a busy day, actually. I will be seeing Doubt this afternoon at 1pm with a friend. I've seen the stage production but didn't have much desire to see the film, just because I saw the stage version and liked it so much but my friend is a big MS fan and since I'm not busy I will indulge and see the movie. We will then have an early dinner and I will return home and think about the fact that I have to return to work tomorrow.

That is my day.

Good morning!

It was raining pretty steadily when I fell asleep last night, but the clouds moved out during the night, and it's beautiful this morning (albeit cool). My heat has clicked on several times this morning, and I only have it set to 60, so it's cold outside!

Der Brucer has no objections to my keeping some tzatziki in the refridgerator.  It's a great condiment for his sandwiches (and I'm not talking of peanut butter and jelly kind).

Take a container of plain yogurt (non-fat is fine, just don't get a flavored variety), and dump it into a strainer that has been lined with cheesecloth or paper towels and is sitting above a medium sized bowl.  Let as much of the excess liquid drain out as you can.  This can take a couple of hours.  Just let it sit.  Be patient.  This means you, BK.

Dump out the whey, and put the strained yogurt into the bowl.  Peel and seed a small cucumber, grate it on a box grater, and squeeze out as much water from the gratings as you can.  Add that to the yogurt.  Chop two to four cloves of garlic with some salt (from a half to a full teaspoon), mashing it up, and add that to the yogurt as well.  Finally, add a tablespoon of minced mint (or dill), a couple of grindings of fresh pepper, and a tablespoon of red wine vinegar.  mix this all together, pop it into the refridgerator so the flavors can blend, and you've got a great sauce for sandwiches, or to be added to soups, or even make your french fries tastier.

I said let the yogurt sit, BK!  We all know how impatient you can get.  This is something that you have to let take it's time.  Patience is a virtue!
