I do not dance in the sand. I once stepped on a lit cigarette in the sand and it HURT. Since then I have not trusted the sand. (Although, when you think about it, the sand is trustworthy. People who throw lit cigarettes in the sand are NOT trustworthy.)

Maybe she is only harsh when your interest wanes.
(I shall leave alone "I love a waney night" references).

I just watched a really bad short film. The only thing that could have made it worse would have been another half hour.

So the moon is a weapon of mass destruction. I remember seeing a flag "flying" there. Should someone invade just in case!

and here I thought that the moon was a harsh mistress.   :-[

Good evening (oh, an "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" reference) on this Night of A Blue Moon.

I have returned from the second in my series of Southwest Chamber Music concerts at the Huntington Museum in San Marino.  (That's California, not Europe.)

The program tonight was comprised of Mozart's String Quartet No. 8 in F, K. 168, Britten's String Quartet No. 3, Op. 94 (his last major work) and Mozart again, with the String Quartet No. 21 in D, K. 575.

The last piece was accompanied by an obligato of rather determined crickets.  They did not detract from the music; rather, they added to the charm of the evening.

I know you didn't ask my advice, Dear BK, but I would urge you to reconsider not doing matinees.  I do believe there is a whole audience for a show like What If that would not venture into Hollywood at night but would happily do so on a Sunday afternoon.

Thurs/Fri/Sat eve/Sun matinee is fairly common practice in town.

Since I don't seem to be able to get my computer to cooperate about letting me sign on at times that are more convenient to other Dear Readers, I will just post a couple of questions and hope that I can get them answered somewhere down the line.

MBarnum -- When you did your interview with Van Williams, did you actually meet him in person or was it conducted by telephone?  If in person, is he still as attractive as he was when in was The Green Hornet?

Jed -- Did you get the email I sent you last week?

Jane -- Did you ever solve your pet sitter problem?  Are we still having a Northwest HHW  gathering in August?

Jane (II) -- When I mentioned that my avatar was on the cover of the new theatre brochure for next season, you asked if I could post it.  Did you mean the brochure cover, or just a clear copy of the avatar?

Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

I like to go to most of the performances - I always feel like I'm part of it, and I find it difficult to stay away - also because I know people who'll be coming.  If I were directing a B'way show I probably would stop coming early into the run, but waiver theater is fun in that way - to just be at the theater.

BK/Jose.....are you going to do any matinees?...I'm a Los Angeles guy without a car... so if you're near a subway/bus stop....Hudson I think I can get to.

Right now, the only matinee we have scheduled is currently for our first weekend, so that would be August 14, I believe.   Check plays411.com for info.

And since I'm currently taking advantage of the public transportation system... What I've been doing is just taking the Metro-Red Line to the Hollywood/Highland stop, and then walking down Highland to Santa Monica, take a left, and I'm at the Hudson (6539 Santa Monica Blvd.).  So far, it's been about a 10-15 minute walk from the Metro stop.  I like walking, so it's not really that far a distance to me.  -Although I'm finding out that a lot of people out here in LA think any walk longer than three blocks is a "long walk". ???  Otherwise, since the Hudson Theatre is on Santa Monica, the #4 (and 304) bus runs quite regularly all day and all night, so...  you could catch an evening show if you'd like.  Additionally, our total running time should be just at two hours, so you'd be getting out at 10:00, which is not too late, I would guess.  And you can also catch the #156 bus to the corner of Santa Monica and Highland and walk from there.  -Or you could always check www.metro.net -

Can you tell I like the public transporation system out here?  Yes, it is prone to running late, but what public transportation system - in the US, at least - runs on time?  And, for now, at least, every place I've been needing to get to has been about a mile walk (or a bus ride) from a Metro stop, so I've been doing fine without a car so far.

Well, m'lady moon has completely concealed herself under cloud cover and I've finished off the last of the wine, so I'm off to bed to see what kind of midsummer's night dream I'll have.

Good night, y'all.

Good night, moon.
