Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Hour and the Tonys, and now it is time for you to post until the Tony Award-winning cows come home.

Well, last night we did something we haven't done since 2006: we went to see a movie in a real theater with a real live audience.

In 2006, we tried to see Helen Mirren in The Queen in Westchester County, NY. The audience behaved revoltingly. Fights were breaking out, people were yelling; we missed the first 15 minutes of the movie due to all of this crappy behavior. The audience literally drowned out the soundtrack. People were ejected. The management refused to start the movie over. And we haven't been back since.

But last night, friends wanted to go to a movie. So we had three people over for dinner, and then we all went out to the movies. The movie was Spy, with Melissa McCarthy. (Not our choice). I couldn't believe the difference. It must be Minnesota.

The audience (granted, the theater was only about one-quarter full, but still) was quiet and respectful. No yelling. No cell phones or texting. It was amazing! And there is nothing like seeing a comedy with a large, live crowd.

I hadn't seen Melissa McCarthy in anything, and she was very funny. The movie wasn't great, but it was entertaining. A lot of graphic violence and swearing, though - full disclosure. But as a re-entry to the world of live audiences at the movies, it was a perfect evening.

TOD:

I predict that Tommy Tune will win a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

And I furthermore predict that this will not be awarded on air during the telecast.

Good morning, all.

Back to getting up at a more "decent" John Hour, thanks largely to the feline contingent.

Yesterday I cleared a fairly large field in a wooded area adjacent to my driveway.  There's a lot more to be done, but it's a beautiful start.

The space was wildly overgrown, but is invaluable for parking a few cars and for direct access to a friend and neighbor whose house is on another street.  We both like having cookouts and whatnot, and enjoy some visiting back and forth.  It takes one minute to walk from our door to his (and, amazingly, vice versa), but five minutes to get in the car, drive around the bend and turn up his street, get parked, etc.  I'm always reminded of the apartment situation posed in one of Jack Finney's short stories about time/space travel.

Anyhoo, I'll do another few John Hours on that today.  And when that's done, I move on to some other part of the property that needs attention.  There are plenty of them.

I'm the worst person in the world at making predictions.  They always get my choices wrong, and the world is in a sorrier state for it.  I shall enjoy just watching the Tonys, making on-the-spot guesses, being wrong, and moving on.

Good morning, all!  I am having a home day.  I will work on the Moross score for a while, then watch some DVD.  I have litle interest in the Tonys since the only nominated show I've seen is On The Town, and I hope it wins.  I look forward to seeing bits from the ones I haven't seen and to being pissed at the idiocies of programming that require air time for special stars like Josh Groban while half the Tony winners are granted no air time.

End of rant.

Just to clarify: the spoiler rules for tonight's HHW party apply only to naming the award winners, correct?

I am hoping for wins in the Director of a Musical and Choreography categories for GUYS & DOLLS, a win in the featured actor in a play for ANTIGONE, and a win in featured actor in a musical for THE TROUBLE WITH ACCOUNTANTS....

I expect a big write in vote.....

Good morning from Austin, all.

Yesterday was a long one. First dance was at 8:17 on the dot. I left the after party at midnight. And a good bit of dancing in between.

No Tony predictions, just a few wishes:

I would like to see Judy Kuhn win.

I don't think he has a chance but I'd like to see Tony Yazbeck win.

And I'd really like Chita to win.

Singdaw, I too enjoy going to see a movie but haven't been able to do it enough lately. I did make it to the new Mad Max and, for the first time, we had to get assigned seats instead of general admission.

No, DR Jrand64.  It is not a "big enormous deal" like, e.g., the Oscars.

You'd think the accountants who tally the vote could be persuaded to give one to The Trouble With Accountants.

When did Mia Farrow change her name to American Farrow?  (I predict a win for her tonight for "Love Letters.")
