And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to dear reader Edisaurus, who rarely posts here anymore, due to living on Facebook.

I've been home for a little over an hour.  Last night's show went very well.  The audience (including my sister and my friend Margo) really enjoyed it.

After the show, the three of us went to Applebee's for a late dinner.  I had their Quesadilla Burger.  Yummy!

Today, I get to sleep in!  Otherwise, I just plan to watch some TV, record a couple of DVDs for my dad and niece, and do a bit of laundry before I have to go to the theater.

After tonight's show, we're having a cast party at the director's house.  Tomorrow is the final performance and stike, and then it's all over!

The sun is out, thank God, and today we’re going out to dinner to celebrate Kristi’s birthday, even though Monday is the actual day.

TOD:

Interestingly, I was just thinking a few days ago about my first ever pizzas.  We were living in Whitehall (Columbus suburb) and I was probably around 6 or 7 years of age.  My dad would bring home a pizza from some jernt on Main Street.  It was either a plain cheese or a pepperoni pizza (I think those are all we ate for years), and for us then it was something new and exotic.  I kid you not.  For me it was the greatest treat that could never happen often enough.  And it probably didn’t.

Nowadays I’m open to many other wonderful toppings, but pepperoni still remains the basic essential if nothing more exciting or interesting is available.  As far as pizza style goes, I’ll eat any damned thing you put in front of me, but if I’m given my druthers, you can make it a Connecticut style pizza every time and I’ll be a happy boy.

TOD:  Not counting Skip's homemade from scratch pizza, these days it's Uncle Nick's vodka sauce pizza - superb!

For many years, I'd go way out of my way for Ray Bari's pizza on 56th Street and 3rd Avenue. At the time, I joked (but was it actually a joke?) that I moved to 57th Street between 2nd and 3rd to be near Ray Bari's pizza. (not to be confused with Famous Ray's Pizza.)

My impression has always been that NYC has imitators for pizza based on the name Ray like LA has them based on the name Tommy for hamburgers.

T.O.D.

I was rather a late comer to pizza.

 :'(

It was never served in our home, so I might not of had it until I was in high school or even college.

I know I was in my 30s before I ever had sushi.

 :'( :'(

I'm going to be 77 this month.  How do you expect me to remember such important things?

The most exquisite homemade pizza I’ve had was that made by one of the cast members of Wreck the Halls at the pizza party he threw for us in December.  Out of this world delicious.

I love the little Encores! rehearsal videos with Rob Berman playing the piano, even though they’re all too brief.

It’s just always good to hear a great music director doing this.  And of course those singers...

TOD

I’ve been craving pizza since leaving the hospital. Have had it twice, once great and once so-so. Both times the topics were anchovies and artichokes. Both times the toppings were fine. Both times, the crusts were handmade, but one had overworked dough that was tough to chew. That one also had an overcooked sauce on it that was dull and distracting and used too heavily.

I know a lot of folks dislike anchovies. I love them. They create an umami I crave. Mushrooms do a little.

Best pizzas have come from John’s of New York, some sidewalk cafe in Venice, Mom and even the grill out back.

Jane, I am not a Louise Erdrich fan. Have you read other books by her?

I have read 2 other Erdrich books, this is her 1st dystopia one that I know of.  At times I liked it very much, other times I rolled my eyes and read quickly.  What I liked about the book kept me reading and engrossed.

It was written in 3 parts.  Each part was one long chapter.  It was part 3, I read last night where it fell apart for me.

I woke up this morning still angry about it.  Reading the reviews I seem to be in the minority.

I slept poorly last night.  I got up at 7, fed the kitties and the birds, and went back to bed.  At 9, I decided it was time to begin moving around.  I don't feel bad but after yesterday's sore throat scare, I am staying in and doing very little today.

My favorite comic novelist is Carl Hiaasen, whose Florida mysteries deal with various con artists destroying the environment and ecology of Florida and the Everglades.  Much of its based on things he learned during his crime reporter days, and they outrageously cover plastic surgery, theme parks, lottery scams, death insurance, voodoo, fishing competitions, hurricane insurance scams, and more.

THE TOPIC WAS ANCHOVIES - my years-later fan-fiction sequel to THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES
