The New Year's Eve ball first dropped in NYC's Times Square in 1907.

Thanks for this interesting fact.

It must be a leftover Christmas miracle - I had a solid un-drugged sleep, which was only interrupted by the expected coming-out-of-the-cold coughing fit at five in morning. I slugged back some Robitussin and slept soundly again till eight.

Now I have to really take it easy and get rid of the cough through today and tomorrow.

Yay, sleep.  Feel better fast vibes!

But wait, there’s more!

I spoke with the scheduler at the doctor’s office and explained about the cold. She performed her own miracle and penciled me in for Thursday in case I woke up on Tuesday and didn’t feel good about coming in. And Thursday just happens to be the deadline for the doctor placing the order for the lenses. I’d be a fool not to take her up on that so I already know I’m calling in first thing Tuesday to ensure better success at - for instance, not coughing up a storm in there and alarming everyone.

Great!  VIBES THE SURGERY HAPPENS!

A wonderful final day of 2023 to all and one.

It is the 31st of December 2023, and 30 years ago today, I retired from the U.S. Navy (after 24 1/2 years of service).

I loaded my belongings into my 1990 Ford Probe and headed north.  Passed Disneyland on the way.  It was a long drive to Oakland CA, but I got there around 6:30 p.m. (I left San Diego around 9:30 a.m.)

Happily, I had a home to go to as I was sharing a rather nice apartment with an old Navy buddy.  I later (two years later) got my own condo where I remained for the bulk of my stay in California.

It is odd how vivid "some" of my memories are about the past 53 years (I enlisted in the Navy in 1970).  It is quite a relief that I don't have the so-called "photographic" memory.  No one should want to have instant recall of every moment of every day on one's life.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

It is a good story.  Did you have a job waiting for you on your arrival in Oakland?

The recipe called for three cloves of garlic. These cloves are almost as large as Brazil nuts. It will be garlicky.

Loving the new Ella Fitzgerald biography. I also love the way she describes Ella’s relationship with Billie Holiday. Each was the other’s favorite singer, and there was no professional competition, just mutual admiration.

The basic version is what I learned last night, but with a grapevine, not just steps to the right and left. I won’t go on one knee. I may add a lasso, because, why not?

For me, Brazil nuts are worse than Hazelnuts.
