Well, you've read the notes, the notes had rhyme and reason, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, with a capital C and that rhymes with P and that stands for Posts.

Maybe Cillaliz can bring Paul out to LA to protest:

ASSOCIATED PRESS (http://www2.presstelegram.com/news/ci_8776855)

Quote
PUBLIC ART DRAWS L.A. COUNTY IRE

LOS ANGELES - It was a graffiti artist's dream come true: 10,000 square feet of concrete and a permit to paint.

Families brought their kids to watch as hundreds of muralists, using their own materials and working for free, sprayed technicolor shades on the steep banks of an ugly, manmade riverbed.

Not everyone was pleased, however, with the results of the civic-minded effort, which had the city's blessing but has rekindled debates over whether Los Angeles County should condone a practice it pays millions to combat.

Some politicians protested that parts of the mural are obscene and have attracted gang-related tags in a city where graffiti already mars homes, sidewalks and buildings. The county has given organizers until today to whitewash the mural, and neither side is backing down.

"It would be beautiful if the river went back to its natural state and was actually a river and a park," said Alex Poli, a graffiti artist and gallery owner known as "Man One." "But right now we have concrete walls, so the next best thing is to beautify it with art."

Had a lovelier than lovely day yesterday with my DH, my mother, and my aunt.  We ate, shopped, giggled, and generally made spectacles of ourselves.  I was a pair of designer frames.

And the Chanticleer concert last night was, as always, simply divoon.  If you want to hear choral perfection, I highly recommend that you attend the next time they're performing in your area.

I saw Cry-Baby last night. I liked it. I wasn't blown away. There are some good performances and Rob Ashford does a great job with choreography. I especially liked the "tap dance" number. It's colorful (lots of pastels and bright colors). The request to turn off your cell phone and unwrap candies is funny and the exit music is also a lot of fun.

It's one of those (for me anyway) hard to categorize shows. I liked it (as I just said) but nothing really stands out as WONDERFUL. I'm a big fan of Harriet Harris and she's fine as the "conflicted" grandmother. Christopher J. Hanke who plays the "good boy" and Elizabeth Stanley who plays the "good girl gone bad" are both fun to watch but Hanke looks (to me) like Mark-Paul Gosselaar (the blond kid from Saved by the Bell). His first Broadway show was the jaw-dropping In My Life. Stanley reminds me of Sherie Rene Scott. James Snyder works his butt off as Cry-Baby and has lots of fun on stage. Alli Mauzey is VERY funny as a crazy girl in love with Cry-Baby and/or whoever her inner voices tell her to be in love with. The music is cute (if formulaic) and toe-tapping for the time it's being played but it doesn't stick around in your head (that's probably a good thing). There isn't a song I strongly remember. At about 2 and a quarter hours it's still a bit too long. There are, IIRC, something like 18 or 19 songs in the show. Some could be cut or trimmed without losing any flow or understanding. The humor isn't especially crass, although it is even more adult than Hairspray (many of the people involved in that show are part of this one). It is based on a John Waters film after all so you have to expect some crude moments. I don't know the film at all so I can't compare the two pieces. It's just missing a spark that the original production of Hairspray had (the current Hairspray does NOT hold up well, IMHO, it's tired and not very funny). I went in with no preconceptions, no agendas or biases. I just wish I liked it more. I like it enough, but not enough to see it again. As far as recommending it, I don't know. If you know and like the movie you will probably enjoy the show. If you don't know anything about it you may leave the theatre, like me, wondering what all the fuss was about in California. I don't have a clue how this will play out with the critics. There are definitely good moments in the show and if/when it goes to TDF (right now all seats for previews are $54 dollars based on the fact that the show takes place in 1954) it would be a good buy but $115...I don't think so. There will be $35 rear mezz seats when the show officially opens and those will be snapped up by the theatre rats (like me) but, based on audience reaction last night, I don't think it will do overwhelming business. As most theatregoers know, a standing ovation is almost de rigeur nowadays but there were not a lot of standees last night (the theatre was also not full). It's not a strong season for new musicals so CB will definitely be in the list of Tony noms for Best Musical but I don't know that it will win anything.

Anyway, as I ramble on for paragraph after paragraph, those are my thoughts on Cry-Baby. Take 'em or leave 'em.

Later, gaters.

Ben - I figure CRY BABY will get a Tony  nomination for its score, mainly on the strength of David Javerbaum's lyrics, but only four of the (I believe) eight possibilities can be Best Musical nominees:

A Catered Affair
Cry Baby
Glory Days
In the Heights
Little Mermaid
Passing Strange
Xanadu
Young Frankenstein

TOD - There used to be a chain called Bill Knapp's that we liked a lot.  My first meal in Middletown was lunch there during my job interview in 1973 and it was always the favorite place of DH Richard's parents.  The chain went out of business several years ago and I still miss it - as recently as this past Saturday when Richard picked me up at the airport and we wanted to stop to eat.  I wanted a Bill Knapp's cheeseburger!

For current chains, I'll take Panera, Bravo Cucina Italiana, Outback, Cheesecake Factory.

I see Catered Affair tonight and, thought I shouldn't, I'm going in with high hopes. I've heard very good things about the fixed up In the Heights (seeing it next Tuesday, April 8). I wrote about Passing Strange after I saw it. I don't know nuttin' about Glory Days (other than the press I've read). I'm not one of the fans of Xanadu so I'm hoping it's not one of the 4 in the Tony race. Of the shows listed I'm hoping for Catered Affair, In the Heights, and the other two are up for grabs, perhaps Little Mermaid and Cry Baby or LM and Young Frankenstein.

If some news I received yesterday from a friend pans out the Helen Hayes may be open in the fall anyway. I can say no more (a Help reference)

There is a 35 acre tract of land in Marietta near Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield, which is a national park. The owners decided the property was too prime to hang on to, so they decided to sell it. Developers were salivating over it, but in the end, the family decided to sell it to the park so they could expand.

The family is the Hensleys, as in Shuler Hensley.

I had known about the land and the potential sale for awhile but never knew who owned it until reading about it in the paper today. Apparently, Shuler's father didn't go to the ceremony yesterday (he'd had heart surgery). I didn't know that he was a former state representative.

Anyway, something nice in the news today!

So... My parents made it into New York City safe and sound this morning.  By the time I had called them, they were about to walk into the morning Mass at the church down on 42nd Street, and then by the time I made it down to 42nd Street, I was able to meet them at the now-traditional meeting place: Burger King.

When I walked through the door, they had just finished their breakfast, and were about to leave, so... Good timing.  I talked them through their itinerary for the day, and then walked them over to Times Square.  -Pointing out where the Al Hirschfeld Theatre is along the way.  Once we reached the base of Times Square, I went this-a-way way, and they went that-a-way.

If nothing comes in the mail today in terms of review copies, I'll be tackling SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, one of the leftovers I inherited from my Paramount reviewer predecessor. I haven't seen the movie in at least a decade, so just like DIRTY HARRY last night, I'm sure I've forgotten quite a lot about it.

This disc was released in September last year in a new transfer, so I'm hoping it will look decent. I don't remember ever liking the way the movie looked on TV in previous incarnations.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Today is the first of 3 workdays when I have no meetings, no programs, no appointments scheduled.  Maybe I can get some work done!

DR Elmore - Your friend's name caught my eye when I was reading the same alumni magazine (I used to know someone with the same last name).  Thank you for sharing the story about him last night.

I shpuld have added the story of Aue's screwed-up relationship in college with someone who's now a prominent theatre manager in the City, but since I may be involved in a project with his management company, I'll not mention it.  This is for the memoirs.

NBC has already announced that LIFE is coming back next season. So is CHUCK of their fall freshmen series.

What we're waiting on with their announcement is whether MEDIUM and LAW & ORDER are being renewed.

I read that if MEDIUM isn't picked up by NBC, CBS is primed to scoop it up. (They actually produce the show through their Paramount TV production arm.)

TOD:   Hmmmmm....favorite restaurant that's a chain.....all my current favorites are "local" establishments.  I like "Kincaids", of course, but I only go there once a year or so.

Growing up, we didn't know from "chains".  But the first "restaurant" (of a sort) that opened in Greenville SC that was part of a chain was Dobbs House.  My dad was very partial to Dobbs House, and I enjoyed eating there, too.  They had a wonderful filet with bacon wrapped around it.  First time I'd ever seen that.

As for fast-food chains, the first in Greenville, to my recollection, was called "Burger Chef".  It was later taken over by "MacDonald's" (as in, absorbed by) and our first "MacDonald's" opened on the same site (and, as it happens, was next door to Dobbs House).

I'm fond of "Red Snapper", although the ones nearest the "coasts" are best as they get the freshest seafood, IMO.

And I would kill, kill, kill (that's THREE kills, mind you) to have a local "White Castle."  I don't care what anybody thinks of "White Castle"...I LOVE IT!  It helps, of course, that I can buy a box of frozen burgers (or cheeseburgers) in my local supermarkets, but I can't get the fried onion chips or chocolate shakes!

How tired was I last night?  After leaving work at 6:30 p.m. (BUSY, BUSY day) I stopped at a grocery and bought a few things to cook.  When I got home, changed into comfy clothes and put away groceries, I discovered I wasn't remotely interested in cooking.

It was nearly time for "Biggest Loser", and I settled in to watch.

'BIGGEST LOSER' SPOILER

Umptysquat gizzplotz singdawmarjoriedaw singdawcoleslaw stringclawstrontzjaw slingjaw snorklecraw We were down to the final five in last night's show with brothers Mark and Jay, former Bama football player Roger and ladies Ali and Kelly, both of whom were the top weight losers last week.  We lost Dan (the kid) in last week's show.

Last night, the show treated the fivesome to a trip to Sydney, Australia, home of "Big Brother Australia", a show that is a hit "down under" and one in which Bob and Jillian are trainers, as well.  The facility there is called the White House and it's a gorgeous estate/mansion.

The show was more of a travelogue for Sydney, but it had its moments as the competitors had a couple of workouts plus a challenge that really put them through their paces:  First, they had to climb to the top, and center, of the Sydney Harbor Bridge.  There, Allison told them about their challenge.  They were all to be taken into the harbor on a speed boat, from which they would jump and swim 300 meters to a point on shore where they would put on running shoes and run a short course to a steep flight of stairs, at the top of which they would find bicycles.  They then biked a good distance until they got to a botanical garden, through which they had a good run until they arrived at a 44-story building, the stairs of which they would climb to the top.  Mark and Ali arrived "together", each supporting the other and were granted co-winner status.  Their reward was a plane ride over Sydney and a breakfast at a fancy hotel overlooking the ocean.  Each also got to call home.

The final workout saw Jillian really busting Kelly's and Ali's behinds.  Bob, on the other hand, was proselytizing his theory that yoga is a damned strenuous exercise.  He had the three guys in lotus positions and other contortions.  They sweated and groaned...but they didn't seem to be burning any calories.

At weigh-in, the results of the trip across the world, and other training irregularities induced by the trip, told on all of them.

For the second time in three weeks, Ali was the biggest loser.  She lost 3 pounds.  Next was Roger who lost 2 pounds.  And believe it or not, Kelly remained above the yellow line having lost only 1 pound.  No one expected that both Jay and Mark would have a lousy weigh-in.  No one except Mark.  Both brothers registered a gain of 1 pound each.  Both were below the yellow line.  Because Mark had taken the fall for his "blue teammates" (Jay, Roger and Dan) weeks earlier when teams were voting off their own, this time his brother Jay stepped up and asked everyone to vote for him.

Ali and Roger both voted Jay out.  We don't know how Kelly voted, but Kelly has long considered Mark the biggest threat in the game, and I'm sure she pondered whether voting Jay out was a better game play than voting out Mark.

Allison got a huge dig in at Jillian, pointing out that a woman had again won the weigh-in and that the competition was now down to two men and two women.  Last season, the show sent the final four home to complete their competition after all previous shows had only a final three.

This season, we're expecting a final three, but the previews last night indicated something different is to be expected.  It looks like the "public" will be choosing who the "third" member of the final three will be.  Next week's weigh-in will have a bottom two...so it looks like "we" will get to pick which of the bottom two will be allowed to compete for the final prize.

It's really a crap shoot at this point because all four are more than worthy of moving on.  I'm rooting for both the ladies, but I cannot say which of the men I'd prefer to see bow out.  Both have done incredible things and I look forward to the finale to see how much weight all of them have managed to lose by the end of the competitive arc.  spunstraw snottycraw singdaw'satmardigras.

Oh, I forgot to post about Lester Lanin's Theatre Party CD.

bk was right, of course.  The arrangements are witty and fun.  And the sound is simply out of this world!!  Somehow it was closely enough miked that you can hear every note, every line, every instrument, and yet the overall sound is not cramped, boxy, or congested.  It's a real accomplishment and a great listen.  :)

Good Afternoon!

I'm almost done here at Ripley-Grier.  The Women's Equity Chorus Call finished up about 15 minutes ago, and now we just have one other woman coming in to audition for the "people behind the table" for another project.  So, I should be out of here by 1:30, and then I can walk up to the Hirschfeld to meet my parents before they go into the theatre for this afternoon's matinee of Curtains.  I may try to see if I can walk in, but I also may just camp out somewhere and have a nice leisurely lunch, and then meet them after the show.  We shall see...

*When I checked my voicemail, there were five messages waiting for me.  -One of them of was even marked "Urgent".  Of course, all five messages were from my Mom.  They found the theatre, but they said there were no tickets for them at the box office.  Thankfully, the fifth message was from my father - he said that once he told the woman at the box office that "my son is a musician", well, she figured out it was a house seat request.  Of course, I had already told them that the tickets would be held under my Dad's name, and that they were a staff ticket request, so...  In any case... I hope they enjoy the show.  ;)

TOD:

Well, I'm not that terribly fond of chain restaurants.  IMO, any place where the guy running the kitchen isn't even learning directly from the chef who devised the dishes, but is instead following instructions from a book where the first rule is to never ever ever deviate from the book, the end result is going to be something that is bland and uninteresting.  The manager will be spinning his wheels, trying to keep from being ground into powder by the corporate management, all the while grinding the workers in the shop down into even finer powder, and I don't mean fine as in wonderful.  The inspiration and motivation will be gone, and the odds will be a meal that will just sit in my stomach like so much tofu and surimi.  Bleh.

That being said, der Brucer and I do enjoy ourselves at the local La Tonalteca (http://lastoltecas.com/de/index.php).  It's part of a small chain, where the employees take pride in what they're doing: presenting authentic Mexican dishes in a friendly setting.  We were afraid that, in moving to Delaware, we wouldn't find anything to satisfy my Mex cravings - La Tonalteca proved us wrong.

When I was on the road, Perkin's and Applebee's were always my stand-bys.  -And even though I should be over "it", I still won't eat at Cracker Barrel.

Fast-food-wise, if I see an Arby's, that's where I'll usually end up, even if it is a little more pricey than the other options out there.

I've been teaching Wiggles bad tricks.

Yesterday, I pulled him up onto my bed, for a very nice rubbing/scritching/loving sessions.  He really liked it, and we went on for several minutes until we were discovered first by Bonnie and then by Buster, who got a little jealous and wanted their fair share of the same.

This morning, I was wakened by a jolting of the bed, and when I looked up there was a large black face looking down at me.  Wiggles had decided it was time for him to go outside, and also decided that I was the one who should let him out.

I can't wait until his mistress finds out about these new habits of his.

RE: the veto comp.

I just couldn't believe how dumb ryan was during last night's veto comp.  This should have been an easy competition for them (to make sure james did not win veto).

Any comp where you can help each other is not really fair for the one lone person.

I just couldn't believe how dumb some of them were.

Okay sharon/josh got screwed in the first question (they really did nothing wrong).

But that one question where james folded and nat and ryan both had similar answers. Ryan should have folded so nat could get her second point. Insteand he knew if he got it right she would be eliminated. And he still did it!

That and him folding on two questions he would have won make me wonder if he is an idiot!

Jose, Anthony wanted me to mention how nice it was to audition for Rob Fisher. He had no idea who Mr. Fisher was or that he would be auditioning for him. When I saw the name I said "You auditioned for Rob Fisher! He's a big (and good) name" He said both people behind the table (I forget the second man's name) were friendly, attentive and actually listening. He said even if nothing comes of it, he know that he auditioned well and he felt good leaving the room because of the way he was treated by Fisher and Friend.

He said that it's better he didn't know who Fisher is/was. He might have been a bit nervous had he known.

Oh i dislike james. So i was unhappy he won POV.

So you are upset that joshuah is betraying sharon?

Natalie is my favorite so i don't want james to get hoh.

Btw, what you see on the show is not exactly what happens sometimes. For instance that hide and seek they showed on sunday happened weeks ago when matt was still in the house.

Anyhow i am going to write a separate post saying what is going on in the house now. In case you want to know what will probably happen tonight.

DRJENNIFER I read a couple of other boards, and since tonight is live - who knows.

I know that editing on the show is wacky and that a lot of things are out of sequence, clothing and hairstyles betray that sometimes...

Yes Joshuah's betrayal of Sharon is what made me upset - I wish Natalie had used her head and put up Ryan or Sheila - either of whom would throw her under bus in a moment....then the vote would be interesting....

Okay on last night's show we saw james take himself off the block. And nat nominated sharon. Joshuah decided to try to save himself.
Now i don't really have anything against this (why shouldn't he try to save himself?). But sharon has been really nice to him.
Anyhow at the end of last night's show nat said she would save josh and break the tie (if it was 2-2). and ryan and james said they would keep joshuah.

These things did happen. But remember this was days ago. And natalie says things but we don't really know her true intent until we see what she says in diary.
But i don't think that joshuah is going to stay.  Right now natalie might break the tie. but it doesn't look like there will be a tie. James and josh don't have a clue. And they are acting cocky.  It is really ryan who has flipped. He wants josh out (i think he made a secret alliance with sharon now). So most likely it will be 3-1. Although if james finds out everyone is voting out josh he may just make it 4-0.

One of the things I remember reading way back in the late 1960s was Julie talking about "Camelot" and saying that the dog once pooped on stage.  She said it was during "The Lusty Month of May" right before the lyrics:

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la!

I recall her saying it drew a huge roar from the audience.  It's sad when things like that go astray....

For the past couple of weeks the electricity in the guest bathroom as well as the little area outside of it as well as one switch in the den has been out.  Not the breaker.  I've just been lazy about calling the handyman, but when I awoke this morning, the electricity is now out in the entire den, and we cannot have that!  So, he's coming over, sometime before one to scope it out.  I have no idea what it could be.  All the other rooms have full electricity.  I do hope it's not a difficult fix.  He actually didn't want to come because the business manager who handles the house took two months to pay him for the last problem he fixed.  I told him that I'd pay him and then deal with them, which just seems much easier.

When we first moved to Michigan we ate at Bill Knapp's.  I recall they had good birthday cake.

The Writers Guild of America, East, has filed separate arbitration cases against ABC and Corday Productions for allegedly violating the guild’s strike termination agreement by retaining writers hired during the writers strike earlier this year.

The WGAE alleges that Corday Productions, which produces “Days of Our Lives” and ABC, which produces “All My Children,” hired replacement writers during the 100-day WGA strike and has not terminated these employees. Instead, the replacement writers are preventing striking guild writers from returning to their positions, the WGAE said.

“The strike termination agreement does not allow the retention of replacement writers in lieu of allowing striking writers to return to their jobs. ABC and Corday Productions are clearly violating this agreement,” said Ira Cure, senior counsel for the Writers Guild of America, East. “They have left us no other option but to file arbitrations to ensure our members will be afforded their rights outlined under this agreement.”

The companies have 10 days to respond to the cases.

The Writers Guild of America went on strike Nov. 5 over issues including residual payments for online distribution of content. A lack of writers forced numerous shows out of production and cost the Los Angeles economy an estimated $2.1 billion. The strike was resolved in mid-February.

Representatives of Corday were not available for immediate comment.

NBC, which airs “Days of Our Lives,” had no comment.

"We are in full compliance with our contract and the allegation is untrue," ABC said.

A network source familiar with the situation said the WGAE was grandstanding because it subverted direct discussion in favor of announcing arbitration straight to the pres

Julie Andrews in her biography talks about Pellinore's dog in CAMELOT occasionally leaving puddles around the "Lusty Month of May" scene.  Her bio needed a good editor to correct her occasional memory lapses, although the overall book is quite charming and delightful.

Do her occasional memory lapses have anything to do with her recollections about the dog?

I read an excerpt from the early years in Good Housekeeping.  Charming describes it well.

I have no idea.

The memory lapses have to do with crediting someone for something they didn't do, not necessarily having the correct chronology, and that sort of thing.

I have never seen this movie despite wanting to see it for a very long time. MEDIUM, LAW & ORDER, LIPSTICK JUNGLE, and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS were all renewed but will not all be premiering in the fall.

LIPSTICK JUNGLE moves to WEdnesdays at 10 until midseason when LAW & ORDER takes over the timeslot.

LIFE will be on Fridays at 10 next season.

MEDIUM is once again being held until midseason where it will debut after NFL football season is over on Sunday nights at 9.

Matt H:

I have to admit, however, that when Allison had the dream of Cynthia and her daughter talking at the lake, I was sure that meant that Cynthia was going to be dead soon, too, at the hands of that psychopath. Thus, the ending was a surprise. And, of course, Cynthia will get off. Killing that girl while in the throes of grief will most likely let her plead temporary insanity

Interesting, I thought she was just saying goodbye.  I didn’t realize until they were at the lake it was a clue.

I was expecting Cynthia to kill the psychopath & was surprised when it seemed she was leaving without doing so.

Jennifer, I agree, with time they may have gotten the goods on the killer & doing so would have made a continuing story.  I’m wondering if the ex District Attorney will be her lawyer & if Allison will still be able to prove the killer did it, just in time to get Cynthia off.  I found it moving Cynthia called Allison, & really who else did she have to call.

Jennifer:

Yes, that was cute, yet………I’m having problems believing the white haired man, or evenn some flunky attorney, would simply offer $15,000 to an idiot who ran through the wet floor signs & managed a mild break of his wrist.  We were laughing at that last night.

So for any of our DRs who know about genealogy - or who know anyway -

How many years are considered a "generation"?

If someone says "this has been in our family for 7 generations." how many years is that?

Thanks!

Shuler Hensley is always nice in the news.

I'm bummed out at the moment.  I cracked a tooth/crown this afternoon.  We are in the process of switching dentist because ours is so very expensive & we haven’t found he is worth the expense.  My appointment with the new dentist isn’t until May so I have to return to the old dentist, at twice the cost.

I did coax an appointment for tomorrow instead of Tuesday & was old it could be a long wait for my turn.  Since he put in this crown maybe I will get lucky & it will be repaired free-I’m not counting on it.

Good Evening!

Well, about a half hour ago I saw my parents and my cousin/aunt/some-female-relative-of-indeterminate-relation off at Port Authority where they boarded the bus back to Atlantic City.  All in all, a good visit.

On their own, they:
-walked through Times Square.
-Walked by the "Good Morning America" window.
-Walked to and around Rockefeller Center.
-Stood in front of "The Today Show" windows.
-Did the whole "Top of the Rock" experience - They loved it!
-Walked around St. Patrick's Cathedral.
-Walked back through Times Square to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
-Saw Curtains - They loved that too!

Then once I caught up with them after the show:
-I took them on the on the subway up to Columbus Circle.  It was their first subway ride in years(!!!).
-We walked around the Time-Warner Center.
-We walked around the Whole Foods in the T-WC.  -My aunt is in the food service business back home in the Philippines, so she took pictures of the various hot foot bars, and salad stations.
-We went up to the Restaurant Level, where we took a few more pictures, and where they also picked up a few souvenirs - the previous day's menus from Per Se.

And then it was back on the subway to Port Authority.

*I still can't believe I actually got to see them for more than 20 minutes this time round!  ;)

Alas, this visit left my Mom with a scar.  Well, more like a scratch.  While she was waiting on the sidewalk sometime this morning, she had a run-in with a street vendor pushing his hot-dog-falafel-kebab cart.  Well, he actually ran into her.  He ran into her with enough force that she was pushed to the ground and her glasses and shoes(!) fell off.  Thankfully, her glasses did not fall into the subway grates, but her lenses did get a bit scratched up.  The man who was pushing the cart, apparently, did stop to see how she was doing and made sure she was all right before he headed on his way.  So, when I saw my Mom after the show, I noticed she had a scratch and scrape below her left eye... And that's when she told me what had happened.

I'm just glad she really was all right, although, if I had been there, I would have made sure to get the vendor's license number or some other contact number just in case.  If anything, I would have asked for some free food.  ;)

It's probably just a furry friend stripping the wires for nest material and then the urine trails create short circuits - be patient and soon all will be dark.

Can dear reader Jose help me with house seats to the Ahmanson A Chorus Line - I hate to call in favors twice in two weeks.

I'm not sure I can help you out here.  The management company is still getting things in place for the tour in general, and I'm sure asking for tickets for L.A. portion of the tour right now would probably be met with a look of mild disbelief ("You want what?").  If the tickets are already on sale, I'd say just check with the box office first.  -If it's like any of the other tours, the "local" comps probably won't be able to be requested until they're four to six weeks out - or, if it was like Mamma Mia/i] in some cities - they can be requested now, but won't be processed until they company is in they city in question.  But I'm stopping by rehearsal tomorrow, and I can see what's up.

I have never seen this movie despite wanting to see it for a very long time. It's charming, light, and bittersweet with Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub playing Italian brothers trying to keep a restaurant afloat in NYC of the 1950s. Wonderful cast along with them: Isabella Rossalini, Minnie Driver, Campbell Scott, Ian Holm, Marc Anthony. I really enjoyed it, and seeing it in HD was a treat.

Re: BIG NIGHT.

I have seen the recipe for the climactic entree somewhere online.

There was a restaurant in DC that would routinely feature menus and food items that were featured in currently running movies.  They did dinners that went along with "Babette's Feast", "Like Water for Chocolate", and, of course, "Big Night".

I think "Babette's Feast" was their first "Movie Dinner".  -They actually would make an evening out of it.  You would have the dinner, then see the movie.  However, they soon switched that order to seeing the movie first and then having the dinner.  This way, nothing was "spoiled" when the customers went to see the movie.  -And, more importantly, it prevented people from falling asleep in the movie theatres due to their full stomachs.  ;)

He's been in the attic, under the house - still nothing.  I really wish he'd go back to the outside breaker box and recheck that particular breaker for corrosion since that's what fixed the other thing.

A simple instrument reading at the breaker box would eliminate the breaker as the cause.

As one wag has written on the Internet:

I did get the front yard mowed. Because we've had a good amount of rain and the temps have been warm for the last month, the grass was actually quite high in spots, so it took longer to get it done than usual. Thankfully, there was a steady breeze blowing so I didn't get too hot doing the work.

And now the truth can be told:

THAT FLY ON THE WALL COULD BE AN AMERICAN CYBORG SPY (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,345192,00.html)

Quote
If you thought "Robocop" was a little far-fetched, think again. Cyborgs — especially cyborg insects — are making the spy technology scene.

The newest recruits in the War on Terror are high-tech "flies on the wall." Scientists in the U.S. are fitting insects — and rats, moths, pigeons, bulls and even sharks — with special implants so they can be remote-controlled and deployed for surveillance.

The creatures are installed with special electrodes, batteries and even video cameras. The goal is to create the ultimate cyborgs to serve the U.S. as undetectable super spies.

-And, more importantly, it prevented people from falling asleep in the movie theatres due to their full stomachs.  ;)

The dishes in BIG NIGHT looked absolutely scrumptious.

No, I cleaned the den early this morning, and mowed the front lawn around 12:30. Good thing I did, too, as it's been raining off and on all evening long.

Time for beddy-bye. Boy, this was a tough day at work, an almost impossible deadline, which makes me insane because I always screw something up when I'm under pressure, time-wise, but all of our spots passed with flying colors for the network head. And the original shoot we did with Kyra in NY (I made 10 spots out of it) is a big hit. They are going to do a story about it and air one of the spots on ACCESS HOLLYWOOD, probably Friday.

So my DH and I went out for dinner and a margarita. (I could have demolished a pitcher, but I'm glad I didn't!)

I spent a good portion of the evening with the 30th anniversary edition of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. Definitely the best this movie has EVER looked on home video. Paramount actually struck a new master for this DVD release. There's no dirt, reel change markers, or other artifacts to ruin the image. The 5.1 sound is fine.

Once again, I had forgotten chunks of the movie, so it was nice revisiting it.

There were a bunch of bonus features on the disc (only a single disc edition), and luckily I had time to watch everything since my TV didn't start until 10. Most of them were puff pieces shouting hossanahs to the film and the personnel, but they covered things pretty thoroughly. Nice to see the hunky Joe Cali taking us for a tour of present day Brooklyn showing filming locations that were the same and those that were now either different or gone.

Good Evening!

I'm back from South Pacific...

I'll keep this "review" short.  For now at least.  All in all, a very enjoyable evening.  However, I wasn't as blown away by the production as much as I had expected to be - at least from the reactions of some of my friends and colleagues.  I know South Pacific very well after working on two major regional productions of the show, and through my own study of the show - including all the cut and interpolated material, so...

The whole show is there, however...  This production does include "My Girl Back Home", but it's been placed where I don't recall it every being placed before.  The book scene setting up the song actually seemed a bit "suspect" to me.  -I'll have to go back through my script library.  There were also a few small dance breaks I don't ever recall seeing or hearing.  Again, I'll have to check my scores.

I appreciated the director's choice to make everything seem "real", however, I felt at times that it felt almost "too real".  The show is very realistically, deliberately paced.  Nothing is rushed, nothing is forced.  Unfortunately, at least for me, there was no constant "crackle" or "tension" in the air.  South Pacific has never been an "exciting", edge of your seat show, but the juxtaposition of the War and the beauty of the setting should provide some sort of tension throughout.  The score is also presented in a very "easy" manner which, to me, made everything sound a metronome tick to slow.

All of the above is truly nit-picking due to my familiarity with the material. I really did like the production.  There is a TON of good stuff in the production.  The 30-piece orchestra! - which actually gets revealed - literally - at various points in the show.  The leads are uniformly well cast, and really inhabit their parts - and sing like dreams!  And if Danny Burstein doesn't get a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Billis, then I'd have to seriously consider boycotting the Tony Awards this year!  -Well, maybe not a boycott, but his Billis is truly the best one I've ever seen.

I don't think it's furry things stripping wiring - there is no exposed wiring, it's all inside pipes and stuff.  And the problem with the bathroom certainly was easy - corrosion on the breaker.
