I did get the kitchen floor mopped and the counters cleaned. I had no folks over tonight to distract me from these most important duties.

I usually don't buy soundtracks of musical movies on CD when I have the actual films on laserdisc or DVD, but I just had to break down and buy the KISMET soundtrack today. Not only is "Rhymes Have I" on the soundtrack (and not in the film except as part of the background score), but I think the film is kind of a drag but the score and film artists are pure gold. I think separating them from Minnelli's uninspired direction will really make the songs come alive.

I love the OCR and the Lincoln Center recordings, too, but I'm looking forward to having this on CD. It's in stereo, too, which the original LP issue of the KISMET soundtrack wasn't.

I did watch the entire BB6 tonight, and I was VERY disappointed with the results of the HOH competition.

Bye, Bye, Janelle.

I adored Nancy Walker, and I was always furious for her when she lost all those Emmy nominations for RHODA and also for McMILLIAN AND WIFE. She never won an Emmy or a Tony.

I spent the rest of my evening tonight watching Oliver Stone's ALEXANDER.

I must say, I liked a good bit of it. Like all these movies, I tired of the battle scenes. The sound and effects are all exceptional, but I've just never been a war scene fancier, and a little bit goes a long way with me.

But I had no trouble at all following the film even with a later rather abrupt flashback. I understood the reason for it, and it helped clarify in my mind some of the allegiances and petty jealousies rampant in Alexander's core of commanders.

I found it ever so much more interesting and much more artistically mounted than TROY, and to Oliver Stone's credit, the Greek ideal of man/boy love/guidance was explained by Anthony Hopkins in his opening scenes and then illustrated throughout the film, but very tastefully and respectfully. Teenaged boys and men in the audience uncomfortable with displays of affection and dedication between men obviously were going to jeer at this, but I had to admire Stone for including it. If it cost the film a great portion of the audience here in America, so be it. I saw that the film did gross over $100 million in Europe though I'm sure it will still go down in a sea of red ink in the accountants' ledgers.

I borrowed this film from a friend, but I have ordered a used copy for myself. I found it an honorable attempt at portraying a very enigmatic man.

But with this film finished, I will either put in another Fred and Ginger tomorrow (THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY, I'm thinking) or go back to THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.

At some point, I want to get to McMILLIAN AND WIFE. I think I only saw one or two of them completely during all the years it ran.

Well, I listened to Wuthering Heights and I have to say that I didn't love it.  The singers were great but the score just didn't do anything for me...a little overly dramatic, I guess.  Not bad, but didn't interest me.  And that's what makes horseracing.

I'm off to watch a DVD of something and then early to bed.  I'm driving my friend Margo and her three children to the airport and I have to be at her house at 6:30 a.m.  She changed her flight...originally, I needed to get to her house at 4:00 a.m.!!  Either way, it's just too darned early, but I said that I'd do it.  So, off to bed after watching something.

Goodnight, all!

Yes, I've got a couple more shows on the DVR that I recorded today. I need to watch at least one of those tomorrow, too.

And our local PBS stations (all 3 of them) still have not shown BROADWAY LOST TREASURES III. I think one of them is showing it this WEdnesday, but so far nothing.

Speaking of Nancy Walker, one of the songs Adair and I did at the fund raiser last week was "I Can Cook, Too."  I had the "OCR" (the re-recording from 1960, I think) where Nancy does it in G (IIRC).  But Adair found an archival version from the 1940s with a big band (with Nancy, I mean) where she did it in Eb.  That must be the only time in history an aging actress took the song UP a major 3rd!!

Good Evening!

Back from the final performance of Triangle.  It went very well...  After the first three scenes...  Let's just say "preset".  And the heat and humidity came back today too.  Ah, well...

But it really was a wonderful performance, and I felt good about my work.  Of course, I always wish it could have been better, but I have to say that considering the circumstances that brought me up here - and that I basically learned a complete show in two days - I'm comfortable giving myself a pat on the back.

And Roger Rees also congratulated and thanked me tonight.  That made it all worth it.

DRs Rodzinksi and TPunk ended up doing a bit of exploring tonight before seeing Bus Stop, and I'm sure they will chronicle their adventures once they're back home tomorrow night.

-Oh!  And since they have the rental car, I'm gonna go ahead and ride back with them to the city tomorrow.  We're gonna do some sight seeing - and eating - along the way.  Hopefully, the forecasted storms will stay at bay.   *It was supposed to rain today, but the skies started to clear up in time for the sunset.

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and get my stuff packed up now.  There's a champagne toast at 2:00am after the company strikes the set, and I'll head down there before heading to bed.

But, now, I pack.

Laters...

Yesterday bk said that Princesses includes references to girls waxing their bottoms.... why oh why ?!

Do these peopele do it for the shock value or do they really think that  its appropriate for kids? Are they so out of touch with main stream American as to think that parents don;t care what their kids see and jhear or are Vixdad and I  so out of touch that we are the only ones who still do?

Dear elmore I hope ypu are feeling better today.

Your story about the birds reminde me how Vixdad would sing " Feed the cat, two bucks a can" when our late cat, Bandit would cry for his supper.  The first time the Vixter saw Mary Poppins (she was about four) she said "Daddy!!Daddy!! They stealed your song!!"

Nice.....

 ::) >:(

One can only hope that the birds repay the miscreant's action by showering him and his vehicles and his clothes drying on the clothesline and his picnic lunch with "affection" ;)
