Well, you've read the notes, the notes were wet and rife with metaphor, and now it is time for you to post until the metaphorical cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INVEIGLE!
-
GOOD FOR YOU on your weight loss, DR Matthew!!! :)

***SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE VIBES***
to DR Ginny!!!
-
And that's it. I'm now all VIBED out.
-
Now we shall commence with a little thing I like to call the wet metaphors.
-
I am swamped at the moment.
-
I am under water.
-
I am drowning in paper.
-
I will get back to you when I have a chance to come up for air.
-
Those are the only wet metaphors I can come up with at the moment.
-
But you can see that it doesn't stop me from blabbering incessantly anyway.
-
No response to my email to DR td from several days ago. Has any other DR heard from him?
-
Now why did I think of td the moment I mentioned blabbering? ;)
-
Perhaps I'm more blithering, myself.
-
Yeah, that's the ticket!
-
That's what I'm talking about!
-
I wonder if a Mailboxes type store would have the postage stock that bk needs for the new machine.
-
April showers bring May flowers.

-
Heading up to the Yale campus tonight to hear a double-bill of one act operas, including Bartok's "Bluebeard's Castle."
-
The cows wanted to hear "Bluebeard's Cattle," but that's a whole other kettle of fish.
-
To mix a metaphor.
-
And the word of the day is: INVEIGLE!
I wonder if there's any inveigling going on down by the Reservoir.
-
the Reservoir
Which is wet, and which, around HHW, has become kind of a metaphor! :)
-
Anybody want to tell me what the FRELL I'm jabbering on about?
-
Nobody?
-
All right, then.
PAGE 2!!
-
Yes, it is Page Two.
-
That is a fine picture of Mr Mario Lopez - but the cover of that book looks almost as if it were Photo Shopped in some way....it doesn't quite look right.
-
Friday and of course it is a work day today. Oh well.
-
Outside of Mr. BK's posts on Page 1 it was all Sing all the time, kinda like the pope news here in New York on NY1 News. ;)
-
I, like Larry, am tired of all Pope all the time.
-
Britcoms on Channel 21 tonight. We also have lots of DVDs to watch. We will do that on Saturday and Sunday.
-
Good Morning Tom and Jack.
-
That sounds like a childrens book title
-
Friday morning greetings!
***SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE VIBES***
to DR Ginny!!!
Thanks so much for these vibes, DR Singdaw, and for making them my favorite color!
I'm taking it a little easy this morning, aiming to show my face downstairs about 9am or so.
-
We did see Valley of the Dolls last night. I had never seen it on a big screen so it was lots of fun but they played a DVD instead of using film and a DVD on a big screen is not necessarily the best way to watch a camp fest. The picture was muddy and stretched. I don't know what they use to broadcast the film, a DVD player or some other kind of special equipment but it seems like it should be calibrated or adjusted for the size of the screen.
Oh, well. We still had a great time. Hedda was very, very funny last night.
Next Thursday is Trog, Dear Joan's last feature film.
The lineup in May is quite good, Mildred Pierce, Queen Bee, All About Eve, The Women and Auntie Mame.
-
I need to return to the James Irvine Foundation. Later, gaters.
-
Good morning, Ginny, Ben, and Jack.
-
TOD - CD(car) on the solo part of my drive yesterday, I started a new audiobook - Diane Ackerman's The Zookeeper's Wife, narrated by Suzanne Toren. Not even through the first disc and I'm already recommending it.
While waiting at the airport, and before I went to sleep last night, I got well into reading the 4th Maisie Dobbs mystery, Messenger of Truth, by Jacqueline Winspear.
This is not a weekend for DVDs in my life, unless any of our speakers use them in their sessions.
-
Good morning, DR TCB - how was your visit last night with DRs Jed and Ann?
-
Successful conference vibes to Ginny

-
Thanks for the blue conference vibes, DR TCB!
-
Good morning, DR TCB - how was your visit last night with DRs Jed and Ann?
Sadly, none of us thought to bring a camera last night. We had a wonderful visit. They both seem very happy and they look great; although I must confess that Ann seems to be getting a big belly. :)
-
Oh, and the baby is due October 13.
-
Ginny, I assume Ginny is short for Virginia. Did I ever tell you that my mom's name was Virginia. She was called Ginny by some family members, but others, like her older sister, called her Din; which was short for Dinna. Any ideas of where that came from?
-
Good morning DR Ginny and gentlemen.
-
Good morning, yourself DR BEN....and DR TCB and DR TOMovOZ and DR GINNY in Ohio.
Everyone has lots to do today it would seem.
-
DR BEN - Trog may star Ms Joan Crawford, but it is produced by Mr Herman Cohen so there are some physique models in the movie, too.
Most notably featured is Mr John Hammill who in a change of pace is the SECOND person in the movie to take off his pants.
-
Good morning, all! I'm awake and I'm moving, and that's about it.
I have a reading to attend at 1 pm, The Road to Qatar by Stephen Cole and David Krane, with Brad Oscar, Seth Rudetsky, et al. I'm looking forward to it. The remainder of my day is centered arond Duke Ellington.
TOD:
DVD: Several Netflix items, several BBC Shakespeare plays, A French Region 2 DVD of Offenbach's LA Perichole
CD: Classical overtures, The Beggar's Opera, The Brain From Planet X, Rebecca Luker
VHS: documentaries about the military on leave
-
Good morning DR Ginny and gentlemen.
Good morning, DR tomovoz! Petula Clark says thank you. I forgot that she's also on my CD list for the TOD!
-
For those who like a reading challenge: Danish write Peter Hoeg! I think I've read all his works that have been translated. Engaging material and strange worlds of imagination and bizarre realities are presented. Most people are only familiar with "Miss Smila.....". The book is more complex than the movie. "Borderlines" is the most disturbing of books and his "new" book "The Quiet Girl" might be enjoyed by our musical Kimlets.
-
TOD:
CD - Cliff Richard, 4 CD set, many songs I had not heard him sing before
DVD - Elizabeth the Golden Age, Once (which I think DR JOSE and DR JMK discussed here last summer)
-
My listening today has included songs by Russ Hamilton (UK singer from the late fifties who is best remembered for "Rainbow".
-
Such erudite readers here at HHW!
Off to work.
-
In case anyone's interested here is the agenda for my next day and a half:
AAUW/Ohio conference/convention (http://www.aauwoh.org/Convention/documents/Agenda_Online.pdf)
Actually, I should say my next half and a day, as today's festivities don't start 'til lunchtime ;)
-
Obscure songs from Tony Hatch (Mark Anthony!) and Burt Bacharach are there I think DR Elmore.
-
DR BEN - Trog may star Ms Joan Crawford, but it is produced by Mr Herman Cohen so there are some physique models in the movie, too.
Most notably featured is Mr John Hammill who in a change of pace is the SECOND person in the movie to take off his pants.
I'm sure Dear Mr. Barnum knows of John Hammill ;)
-
DP Colin and I are at last catching up with "Bleak House" which we recorded before we were in North America. It is wonderful!
-
Yes, I am sure DR MBARNUM knows Mr Hammill, as I do, by reputation.
On a side note:
I was awakened at 5:30 am this morning by a strange sound and weird vibrations and it seems there was a 5.4 earthquake about 120 miles east of St Louis....we certainly felt it here!
-
DR TCB - yes, my name is Virginia. Many people call me Ginny, some call me Gin. Professionally, I use Virginia, because on the phone Ginny gets confused with Jenny. Also, Richard likes the more formal version of my name, and of his.
People have more trouble spelling Virginia than I'd expect. At Starbucks, they often ask your name and write it on your cup. The other morning, it looked like I was named for a pharmaceutical.
-
I've just read the page by DR DrinkStraw. A change of medication may be needed - for him and me!
-
AH. The earth moved for DR JRand. Much as it did not for Glenda Jackson in "A Touch Of Class".
-
Still no sign of "Travels With My Aunt" on DVD. (Somehow I went from "A Touch Of Class" to that).
There are also a couple of listings for single copies of "Kismet" with Amazon's other sellers. I certainly can't afford to buy the "set" when I'd would not watch the other films - and of course the postage will be so much to the land down under. I may investigate in a month or so and see if more individual copies of "Kismet" are available.
-
And it is now bedtime in the land of OZ. (and a chapter or two of Mr Hoeg's book). Have a good day everyone - conferences especially!
-
Good
morning night, DR Tomovoz!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And would anyone else like a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice?
:)
-
In other news... This week was one of those weeks that kept changing speeds, so to speak - at least for me. It seemed the days took turns with their pacing - Sunday was slow, Monday went by like that, Tuesday down-shifted again... And now we're back to another Friday... Whew?
;)
-
~~~~~CONFERENCE VIBES TO DR GINNY~~~~~
*Not that you'll need them anyway. :)
-
Did that make sense?
-
DR elmore - Is the reading taking place down at Chelsea Studios? -I know they were there yesterday. If so, we might end up seeing each other in the hallway today.
-
As for DR singdaw's page one frenzy... I'm not sure if it's a matter of a change of medication. I believe he may either need to be taken off of it, or put be on some. Although, there is the totally plausible possibility that "taking Zach for a walk" is a euphemism for something that could be considered unseemly.
;D
-
OOHH!! Earthquake!
DR Jrand - In the movie that's to be made of this morning's earthquake in Indiana, which actot would you like to play you? -besides you, of course.
-
~~~~~CONFERENCE VIBES TO DR GINNY~~~~~
*Not that you'll need them anyway. :)
Thanks, DR Jose!
I'd love a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. What I'd really love is a hot shower. Just discovered that there's no hot water in my room - BRRR! and GRRR!. Hope it's not a problem throughout the hotel! I'll find out soon.
-
And, yes, "Eli Stone", was quite wonderful last night.
-
DR elmore - Is the reading taking place down at Chelsea Studios? -I know they were there yesterday. If so, we might end up seeing each other in the hallway today.
Yes, indeedy! I hope the New York appearance of His Holiness the Pope, which should keep the media tied up all weekend, doesn't affect my travel through midtown and beyond!
-
Thanks, DR Jose!

~~~~~HOTEL HOT WATER VIBES~~~~~
*That's actually a common problem/occurence during the SETC Conventions each year. Since "we" take over the whole hotel, and since most of the programs all start at the same time in the morning, basically the whole is taking a shower at the same time. -Or something like that. It definitely causes temporary hot water issues for the later-risers.
-
Yes, indeedy! I hope the New York appearance of His Holiness the Pope, which should keep the media tied up all weekend, doesn't affect my travel through midtown and beyond!
Just take the 1 train to 28th Street and walk down to 26th. I'd avoid the busses today.
-
Well, I'm gonna get ready to head in for today's round of Damn Yankees auditions. -And since I can't remember if I confirmed this or not yesterday: Yes, they are for the upcoming City Center Summer Stars presentation.
Hopefully, our turn out will, well, turn out today. When it's sparsely attended, it certainly makes the day drag.
Laters...
-
They keep saying that the Subways won't be affected by the visit but I somehow doubt that analysis.
They also say most of the closures will happen on the East Side (location of the United Nations and the Italian Ambassador's residence, AKA the Pope's Hotel)
-
Yes, Jose, yesterday (say that 3 times fast) you confirmed that it's for the Jack McFarland, oops, sorry Sean Hayes, production of Damn Yankees.
I am not totally sure how i feel about this episode. I love this show. And have loved loved loved the last 2 episodes. I will say i found this episode sort of confusing. Like DR MattH in the beginning of the show i thought that what was happening might be visions and he would realize he should not have the surgery (i mean this has been the premise of the show).
The going back and forth from what seemed like reality (the case...) to the hospital, was a bit confusing. Then things like the promotion scene seemed like visions (when before it seemed like the surgery was the visions). Then none of the case stuff really happened???
I thought that having the healing guy help his brother make the decision and talk to eli was cool. And i liked the very ending. IT was just really complex. I loved the group musical number!
Golly, it took so long to catch up that i got through it last time and forgot to post.
I'm up and on the phone with Pitney Bowes. Apparently the supplies are shipped separately and can take up to ten days - I told her that was unacceptable, as I'd told the woman who took the order everything had to be here by yesterday and I paid for expedited shipping. She's trying to get a tracking number to see what the real story is.
TOD:
CD - Cliff Richard, 4 CD set, many songs I had not heard him sing before
DVD - Elizabeth the Golden Age, Once (which I think DR JOSE and DR JMK discussed here last summer)
Let me know what you think of ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE. I found it the absolute weakest version of the Mary, Queen of Scots story I've seen on film. Clive Owen's Walter Raleigh is dashing enough but not enough is done with him. A fair amount of the history seems off.
I just found the whole movie kind of disappointing.
Speaking of history, what's with making Mark Smeaton gay in THE TUDORS? If it's common knowledge at court, then wouldn't Henry doubt the adultery charge between Smeaton and Anne when it's time for her head, Mark's, and all the Boleyns' to roll?
The writer of this series clearly believes that all musicians are gay: Thomas Tallis in the first season and now Mark Smeaton (Ed Evanko in REX). In fact, I keep hearing the REX score in the back of my head during most of the series.
-
TV Reminders:
CANTERBURY'S LAW (season and likely series finale)
MOONLIGHT returns to the net (CBS); its a rerun, but I'm going to watch anyway. I've missed the show a lot.
-
Thanks for the film report, DR Ben. The May lineup does indeed look spectacular!
-
DR TCB - Thanks for the news of DRs Jed and Ann.
I'm wondering if the name Dinna arose because it was supper time? ;)
Seriously, perhaps the older sister couldn't say "Ginny" and it came out "Dinna" instead, and that's what took. Nicknames are often coined that way.
-
I love that they have made him gay; it makes the charges of infidelity with Anne all the more ironic and preposterous.
I was also VERY turned on when he came on to George Boleyn last week. This is the kind of history alterations that I can live with. ;D
-
Glad our very own DR JRand57 is safe & sound. Earthquake! :o
-
I will continue watching the PSYCH season one episodes today. The transfers are very sharp, but the show certainly is grainy both on the network and on these transfers. I'm not sure exactly why they're filming it this way unless it's being filmed in 16mm for some reason.
-
I've just read the page by DR DrinkStraw.
I am not to be left alone and unattended at HHW.
-
In completely unrelated, though somehow funny to me, news: it turns out the grandson of a woman who is a Trustee at the church where my Pops choir rehearses is the new keyboard player for Mariah Carey. In fact, it was he who accompanied her on Idol from what I'm told. Anyhoo, having just reviewed the Carey concert DVD, where she is seen interacting with the band and calling them all by name and saying how much she loves them all, according to this woman, Carey has no clue who her band is, knows none of their names, and rehearses with them once before touring. The music director told the keyboard player he had worked with Carey for years before she got his name right. I find this sad, yet amusing.
-
I am not to be left alone and unattended at HHW.
Little known fact: No One is Alone and Unattended was Steve's first draft title.
The day drag is dreary, but...
Ah! Wait until you see the night drag! :D
I love that they have made him gay; it makes the charges of infidelity with Anne all the more ironic and preposterous.
It's common knowledge that the charges of adultery were false, but I'm curious as to why Smeaton's being openly gay at court has been developed. It's one thing for the viewer to know it, but I doubt Smeaton, even if he were gay, would have been so open about it. Unless the plot here is being maneuvered that the person who ends up accused of adultery with her is Thomas Wyatt, who clearly hopes the earlier affair will continue. It wouldn't be the first major historic lie the series has pulled, since they killed off Mary (whom they combined with Margaret) last season, I suspect, because she had been offered better money to do BURN NOTICE!
-
Yep, they totally screwed up and the supplies weren't going to be here until next Wednesday or Thursday. So, I did immediate damage control and ordered a new order of stuff that will be here tomorrow. When they get the other package back they'll credit me back that money. In the meantime, having to expedite has cost me fifty bucks more, which I'll call a supervisor about, since it was their screwup and I don't feel I should have to pay all of the expedited shipping charges, since I thought everything was going to be expedited.
-
It's a red-letter day at Kritzerland!
This new pressing plant seems like they're turning the work around a lot more quickly than the old one did.
DVD: well, I finished the massive BBC Natural History Collection, then moved on to the patently bizarre indy feature "The Guatemalan Handshake," which you'll probably like if you enjoyed "Napoleon Dynamite." Next up is "Fall of the Roman Empire," which I'm really looking forward to.
A busy weekend ahead for me as this is the weekend of the 3rd Annual Salem Independent Film Festival....http://www.salemfilmfestival.com/2008/index.html (http://www.salemfilmfestival.com/2008/index.html)
This has become quite the celebration here in Salem, Oregon, and quite an unusal festival for our normally quite, conservative state capitol...but people are coming from far and away to attend.
My buddy Jim and I will be seeing KARL ROVE, I LOVE YOU which stars FRASIER'S Dan Butler, who will also be in attendance introducing the movie and taking questions afterwards.
Tomorrwo we are seeing the IndieKids short subjects and then DRIVING TO ZIGZAGLAND which is a comedy about a Palestinian actor who hopes to make it big in Hollywood...but instead ends up a cab driver.
We don't understand it either. And there's only two roles pre-cast in the production, so it's not like auditioning for Phantom of the Opera where there's never really any slots available. Hopefully, their Chorus Call in a week or so will be better attended - they usually since a member of the production/direction/musical team must be in attendance at those auditions, and some people just prefer to sing for those people.
Lowe's just phoned. My new dishy washer has a big gash in the side. It'll be another week before they have another one. Sigh. He did offer me a discount, though--always welcome.
Spoo! I didn't log out before I left for lunch. Well, I'm back now. Wasn't trying to be rude.
I didn't realize your handyman specialized in gashing dishwashers.
It requires a lot of technical training.
-
DRs JoseSPiano and Jeanne are both getting back on regular food. For different reasons, but still.
-
DR TCB - yes, my name is Virginia. Many people call me Ginny, some call me Gin. Professionally, I use Virginia, because on the phone Ginny gets confused with Jenny. Also, Richard likes the more formal version of my name, and of his.
People have more trouble spelling Virginia than I'd expect. At Starbucks, they often ask your name and write it on your cup. The other morning, it looked like I was named for a pharmaceutical.
;D
You'd be surprised how many people can't spell the name "Jean"--nevermind my Jeanne without the "i". I live on Lee St--I spell that for them, too.
Oh, yes, please! I loooove fresh-squeezed orange juice!
And I never realized there were machines to wash Bob Dishy! ;D
*That's actually a common problem/occurence during the SETC Conventions each year. Since "we" take over the whole hotel, and since most of the programs all start at the same time in the morning, basically the whole is taking a shower at the same time. -Or something like that. It definitely causes temporary hot water issues for the later-risers.
That certainly makes sense, though I've stayed at some hotels where I think it's just business as usual. Sometimes there's a very good reason why the hotel was priced so low! (I bet we could spend a whole day on unseemly hotel stories.)
I am not to be left alone and unattended at HHW.
The gashing was apparently done by the folks doing the delivery to Lowe's--pre-Marvelous Matt.
-
:(
I was already picturing the neon sign...
Matt's Gash a Dish
-
One of the many nice things about Marvelous Matt is that if he goofs he fixes it--without being asked and at extra no cost. Yes, the old-timey work ethic and sooo hard to find these days.
I'm often amazed at how our DRs can get so much mileage out of such innocuous remarks!
Belated HUGS to DAKOTA.
I hope that Ron's dental work is now over and he's recuperating comfortably.
Well, gardening is done for today, ditto laundry (more tomorrow), and I haven't had any lunch yet.
I hope that Ron's dental work is now over and he's recuperating comfortably.
Thanks!
Yes, I returned home about 15 minutes ago. It was far more intense today. The dentist was prepared and really did a great job anesthetizing the left side of my mouth, but something strange was afoot. Every tooth would not cooperate. One would be so numb I couldn't tell she was working on it. The next one in line would by hypersensitive. The result was that she gave me around 10 injections during the course of the two-hour procedure.
The "numbing" part of the anesthetic wore off toward the end...at least along the gumlines on the left side. My lip and cheek (all the way up to my left eyebrow) remain numb and immovable...as if injected with botox. I've taken an ibuprofen to ward off discomfort, but I feel "tingles" with achiness attached.
I'm hoping it's temporary and that the healing will begin commensurate with what was done last week.
For now...nappy poos and very, very soft foods (my tongue will have to do the chewing for at least a week).
I know it was for the best...that a solid foundation has now been established for the future. But I sure wish my mom was here (sniff).
Survivor
SPOILERS:
I did not mind that Ozzy got the boot, not that I wanted Jason to win 'cause I am not that crazy about him......it all made the episode much more interesting (I haven't really found this season to be all that exciting). Frankly, I hope that Cirie wins.
A busy weekend ahead for me as this is the weekend of the 3rd Annual Salem Independent Film Festival....http://www.salemfilmfestival.com/2008/index.html (http://www.salemfilmfestival.com/2008/index.html)
This has become quite the celebration here in Salem, Oregon, and quite an unusal festival for our normally quite, conservative state capitol...but people are coming from far and away to attend.
My buddy Jim and I will be seeing KARL ROVE, I LOVE YOU which stars FRASIER'S Dan Butler, who will also be in attendance introducing the movie and taking questions afterwards.
Tomorrwo we are seeing the IndieKids short subjects and then DRIVING TO ZIGZAGLAND which is a comedy about a Palestinian actor who hopes to make it big in Hollywood...but instead ends up a cab driver.
I love Dan Butler and wish he worked on TV more.
-
Had a nice jaunt out in the fresh air and sunshine while I ran my Friday errands. It is beautiful here today.
-
When I got back in I watched last night's MY NAME IS EARL. Beau Bridges was back as Earl's father, and it was a funny episode, easily the best one in quite awhile.
-
Next, I watched a couple of PSYCH episodes. The first one I watched was the one where Shawn and Gus investigate a murder at a regional spelling bee. Lots of laughs in this one.
-
Then, I watched the one with the wife of a man who had helped steal a lot of money, and she's afraid now that his confederates are out of prison that they're going to harm her. I had only vague memories of this episode so I enjoyed seeing it again.
-
Next, I watched my next review DVD, the Canadian short subject PADDLE TO THE SEA. It's about a little wooden toy Indian in a kayak and tracing its journey from Montreal down the river to Lake Superior, though the other Great Lakes, and eventually through the Erie Canal and out to the Atlantic Ocean. Quirky little short subject, less than a half hour in length. It was nominated for the live action short subject Oscar but lost to WILD WINGS.
-
I saw in the cable guide description that Luke and Noah were going to be on AS THE WORLD TURNS today, so I did record and watch it. As expected, Ameera's feelings aren't even being held back but Noah's too dense to notice and denys everything.
The previews for next week were even more specific as to her plans.
-
Page Eight Glinda Dance!!!
-
Next I watched one more PSYCH episode, the one that I believe was on last Sunday night on NBC: the one where Shawn pretends to be communicating with a cat in order to solve the murders.
I only had very vague memories of this one as well. Fun.
-
I believe I'll try NANCY GOES TO RIO when I go back down.
-
Unless there's been a remake, I saw this when I was in elementary school. I barely remember it, but I liked it. :)
As I was preparing to leave for the reading, I turned on the tv and, because it was on every channel, caught the end of the Pope's address to the United Nations. Within five minutes my computer was down and the tv froze, both on Time Warner Cable. My first reaction was, great, terrorists just hit the UN and blew up all communication at the same time. I expected to get to the subway and find New York in panic mode. Well, whatever happened at Time Warner was terrorist activity and eveything seems to be working now.
The reading was quite a lot of fun. About three years ago, Stephen Cole and David Krane wrote a musical ASPIRE for the Emir of Qatar, and it must have been a circus from the evidence in the new musical about creating ASPIRE called - in homage to Crosby and Hope - The Road To Qatar. Two Jews on the loose in the Far East, dealing with interpreters, casting in London, recording in Bratislava, and all performed by five very very funny people and one of the theatre's great pianists: Seth rudetsky and Brad Oscar were the standins for Krane and Cole, Rob Bartlett, Ray Wills, and Mary Birdsong were every person from Egyptian producer to Air India flight attendent, and the musical direction wasprovided by the great Paul Ford.
I saw a lot of friends including David Garrison, Beth Fowler, the director Marcia Milgrom Dodge and her husband Tony. I hadn't seen Paul Ford in about 10 years, which is amazing to me, but I hadn't seen David Krane in about the same amount of time. I sat with Beth, who just finished up a run in STEEL MAGNOLIAS. I also talked to Maury Yeston, who loved the reading, in the elevator after the performance. I wish the show well; it's outrageously funny.
-
And now, and "break". We have no one else signed up for the rest of the day. However, according to AEA rules we are not allowed to leave until 5:40, so... Of course, if someone ends up coming in and signing up for the 5:50 slot, well... I'm going to change the key on him/her! ;)
-
DR Ron-OUCH! FEEL BETTER SOON!
Unless there's been a remake, I saw this when I was in elementary school. I barely remember it, but I liked it. :)
No remake. It's the 1966 short, a sweet little trifle. I could imagine elementary teachers using it to teach geography of the Great Lakes region.
Going to write for a bit now, but will be back in a bit to say good evening until late night.
Oh my god, oh my god, you guys!! (a Legally Blonde referenece) I just received this e-mail! I'm SO lucky!! :D
Dear Friend,
Greetings to you! I am a solicitor who was hired to administer some funds from a sale of an estate that has just recently declared bankruptcy in Singapore which has its head office in the United Kingdom.
In the dispatch of my duty, there was an excess fund amounting to £5,000,000.00million {Five Million Pounds} which was not declared, but must be disbursed out and this is the reason I am writing you today.
I am seeking your assistance to transfer the entire £5,000,000.00 {Five Million British Pounds} to share in the ratio of 85: 15 Percent. If you decide to assist me, you would get 15% of the total sum stated above.
All I require from you are your full names, and telephone to facilitate the preparation of the necessary paperwork that will legitimize your claims and further lead to the release of the said funds to your account, for us to share as stated above..
Kindly reply this mail as soon as possible to indicate your willingness. EMAIL;gordon.esqofficeinfo@XXXXX.co.uk
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Gordon Esq.
I changed the e-mail address so that no one...and I mean NO ONE can take this opportunity away from me!!
;)
DR Ron Pulliam - 10 injections?!?!?!?!? Well, at least I hope you didn't feel #2-9 as much after you had had #1. In any case... Just think how good that Chocolatine and Morning Bun will taste in a few weeks. ;)
-
I announced at various sites that we were shipping this weekend and we immediately got about twenty orders. Nice. Won't really know a count until we do the big orders and add them in. I will be purchasing close to $2,000 in postage in a few moments, but that's all paid in the orders.
-
DRJOSE - of course the only actor to play me is Mr Jonny Lee Miller.
DR MATTH - I haven't seen ELIZABETH yet, but I will be seeing it soon. I enjoyed THE GOLDEN AGE, and didn't mind that the Mary story got short shrifted....I hadn't really paid much attention to it, but it really drove the religious angle home to me, and I didn't realize the plot was really one to drive England to war with Spain...I know, I know....where is my history?
Anyway - my ancestor the Earl of Derby seems to figure in ELIZABETH, so I will have to watch for him. He doesn't seem to be any where around after that.
MR BK - my experience with Pitney Bowes was that you took the machine to the post office to have postage added to it for mailing, but that was YEARS ago and it's probably all done online now.
-
Congratulations, DR GEORGE....my lottery millions are coming from Uganda, and I expect them to be in my account any day now!
-
Good guess, Sing, but...no.
Today's lunch is--don't tell BK--a falafel. I love 'em.
Don't tell Bill O'Reilly either.
-
Well, we get set free in about eight minutes, so...
Laters...
I believe I'll try NANCY GOES TO RIO when I go back down.
Notice how the Doctor speaks Spanish (not Portuguese) when he arrives chez Sothern/Calhern about 2/3 of the way through. ;D
-
Back for a quick break between the day's programming and our board dinner and meeting. All the speakers showed up and did fantastic jobs - whew!
Now, I just have to get through tomorrow and then write a bunch of thank-you notes.
BTW, still no hot water...
-
Jose - the DAMN YANKEES auditions you played for yesterday and today, were these Equity only auditions? Were they for certain characters? I just can't imagine an audition in New York that isn't packed with actors.
-
Speaking of short subjects--I got an email inviting me to join the Disney DVD club and lo and behold, there in their exclusive section, was "Donald in Mathmagic Land." I have wanted to have that on DVD for eons. Now I have to decide if the purchase commitment is worth it.
-
DR TCB - Thanks for the news of DRs Jed and Ann.
I'm wondering if the name Dinna arose because it was supper time? ;)
Seriously, perhaps the older sister couldn't say "Ginny" and it came out "Dinna" instead, and that's what took. Nicknames are often coined that way.
Actually, my sister and I were discussing it at work today. We decided that my mom being ten years younger than her sister, probably couldn't say Virginia, so the older sister started making fun of her by calling her Dinna, and eventually Din. My aunt was not always a nice older sister when my mom was young.
My Aunt Ruth was a wonderful lady. She was a good friend of Edward R Murrow when they went to Washington State Teacher's Agriculture College (now WSU) together. She even worked on the radio and in vaudeville. I didn't exactly understand everything about her life till I was in high school and one Friday happened to catch a film called THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE. I said the next day at breakfast that the movie reminded me of Ruth and her roommate Dorothy. My sister chocked on her glass of juice.
"Misty" - is as well known as "Ebb Tide" and "Volare" DR Michael! Well by the people in the real world.
IMHO "Misty" is one of the ten best popular songs of the 20th Century!
I'm sure there is a Bollywood version of "Play Misty for Me".
Did I include Sukiyaki?
It is starting to rain here, but we have been warned that we could get snow tonight or tomorrow. Spring has sprung. :-\
Of course it's possible that Clint Eastwood starred in or directed or at least made the day of "Misty of Chincoteague".
Congratulations to DR GINNY on her successful enterprise.
Soon I will be able to leave this place and head home and get something to EAT.....
It is coincidental that my birthday twin and I were both held against our will at workplaces today....and such lovely weather outside.
The earthquake was very noisy, but aside from a few tumbled books, and a picture askew, nothing seemed amiss (or amister) this morning.
It is nice to know that HHW still works on Friday afternoons....and early evenings.
Hurray.....Natalie was voted off Big Brother two days ago.
Good afternoon! Well the talk this noon went very well. It was an interesting group of people, mostly retired college professors in their 70s and 80s who get together once a week and have lunch and a speaker. Boy! They asked a lot of questions that led to a friendly banter and a really good discussion of the issues. Everyone seemed pleased with the way things went and they asked me to join their group!
The prosecutor involved in my trial that starts Monday is still out investigating and trying to dig up witnesses. I'm having witness problems, but I think I may have them resolved. Monday we pick the jury, Tuesday we will do openings and most of the evidence and we'll finish up on Wednesday. It's a pretty simple trial. Did my client have a gun or didn't he. It's been awhile since I had a jury trial. I'm really looking forward to it.
BEST FRIENDS (http://news.bestfriends.org/index.cfm?page=news&mode=entry&entry=3AB49B78-19B9-B9D5-9D532CADF21C3E45)
Parroting the Best Friends line
Thankfully, the U.S. outlawed the import of wild parrots in 1992, but large-scale domestic commercial breeders continue to operate, exacerbating the problem of too many birds and not enough people or sanctuaries willing or able to care for them.
Cordrey pointed out that parrots alive today in the U.S. are, for the most part, the legacy of birds plucked from their natural habitats and sold into the pet trade before 1992. Only a generation or two removed from the wild, they maintain the instincts and needs of wild animals and are therefore ill-suited to spending their lives in cages. It’s one reason so many parrots suffer from neurotic, self-mutilating behaviors and why Best Friends is committed to ending the trade.
Best Friends’ position is that parrots should not be made into pets, Cordrey says. Of course, we are committed to doing what we can for the birds who already are pets and are therefore dependent on people.
“There are people out there who do have good relationships with their parrots,” Cordrey says, “but if that relationship should end, those birds will suffer the emotional trauma of separation. And that happens to the majority of pet birds.”
Parrots can have a long lifespan, so they are usually passed from one home to another, having, on average, seven to ten different ones in their lifetimes. Unable to cope with one separation after another, many birds end up with more neurotic behaviors, such as feather plucking.
…
In conjunction with Community Programs and Services at Best Friends, the Parrot Garden will also begin exploring ways to encourage the large pet store chains to end the sale of parrots, and to instead partner with local parrot rescue organizations and host adoption events.
...
It seems to be that if we sponsor adoption events for big birds at Pet Stores, we still serve as "enablers" for the breeders - adoption or not, we are still popularizing wild birds a captive pets.
CDs are here, and we've packaged about four hundred already. Looks and sounds good, I think. For those who don't know, we had to master this from one of Steve's privately pressed LPs - I've had several over the years, all very noisy, but the last copy I got was great, but had the tape bauble that his old 7 1/2 ips tape had and which is on all the LPs. My mastering guy did an amazing job - you'd never know it wasn't from tape. It does have the sound anomolies it's always had (one track, for example, sounds like it was recorded "live" on the stage - everything else is prerecorded). And we fixed the bauble - the bauble had resulted in two words being omitted from the song When. I sent my mastering guy a DVD of the broadcast and he was able to get just those two words and insert them in a way that you simply cannot tell - in fact, he had to send me the exact timing for me to even be able to locate it. So, I'm hoping everyone will be very happy.
It really matters not whether he did or not; what matters is whether the Government can convince the jury he did (or you can convince one juror he might not have).
LEFT BEHIND
Across the country, animals are being found abandoned in foreclosed homes. Other pet owners who’ve fallen victim to the subprime mortgage mess, finding themselves just days or even hours from being homeless, are desperately trying to find someone to take in the furry and feathered members of their families. Some have tearfully left their pets at shelters, not knowing what would become of them, but believing they could at least give them some chance of being adopted.
“We’re seeing more and more cases of people leaving their homes and dropping the dog off at the shelter and the cat in the local park,” says Michael Mountain, president of Best Friends Animal Society. “Sometimes they even just tie the dog up outside and drive off.”
..
Perhaps this is what happened to JJ.
And our temporary fostering of Wiggles probably saved him from a kennel fate.
DR Ginny, I did have 2 Myths and Realities handouts, the citizenship quiz questions for people over 65 and a NYT article about people being deported after applying for citizenship. I noticed that no one left them behind, so they must have been interested
We will be expecting a FULL report on the trial, DR CILLA LIZ.
I think I will watch four episodes of I LOVE LUCY on TVLand.....and see how many edits I can find.
It is also fun to watch LUCY with the CC on, they do some very creative things with the dialog!
Gay.com is reproting that Luke MacFarlane, who plays Scotty Wandell on BROTHERS AND SISTERS came out today in a Toronto newspaper. Wasn't his sexual preference pretty much common knowledge?
Today? It's been news since Tuesday or Wednesday at least!
I think that it was a well-known secret. ;)
Good Evening!
Well, I "escaped" from Chelsea Studios right at 5:40pm, and then met up with my friend, Michael, who was more than happy to join me as I broke my fast. ;) I knew I wanted to keep the dinner - and my meals for the next few days vegetarian/vegan - and we had planned to head up to Zen Palate in the Theatre District. Well, I had just read a blurb about Blossom (http://blossomnyc.com/) in Chelsea - which was just a few blocks from the rehearsal studios, so we headed over to there to peek at the menu to see if we wanted to dine there instead. Needless to say, that's where we ended up for dinner, and we both ended up having some very delicious food - that just happened to be vegan.
I started off with their Beet & Tofu Salad: "Roasted beets with baked sweet & spicy tofu and daikon radish. Sherry wine reduction." Very good, and the roasted golden/yellow beets were a nice counterpart to the tofu.
For our entrees, Michael had their Phyllo Roulade: "French lentils & root vegetables baked in a phyllo crust. Caramelized onion complement. Served with rainbow swiss chard." It also appeared to have some sort of sauce made out of pureed carrots and/or butternut squash. Michael raved about the whole dish - "It's like a giant eggroll!", and that sauce really was pretty amazing.
I had their signature "Feijoadinha with Smokey Tempeh": "A lighter version of the national dish of Brazil, "Feijoada". Smokey roasted tempeh in a stew of black beans, chayote squash and sweet potatoes in an orange-lime broth." Very well spiced, hearty and filling. It also came topped with a tangle of thin fried-crisp strips of sweet potatoes. YUM!
The food really was quite good, and we were not the only table talking openly about how much we loved our food. And the portions were on the slightly generous side - which went along with the slightly "generous" prices. ;) In any case, I'd definitely go back there again, and probably will.
-
And since we were in Chelsea, and since we were on 23rd Street, I decided to show Michael were Madeleine Patisserie was... ;)
Needless to say, we went in there too. I gave Michael a tour of the pastry case. The owner was working this afternoon, and she congratulated me on identifying all the various macarons, madeleines, meringues and tarts - and their flavors! - for my friend. Michael tried two of their macarons and one of their madeleines - then cursed me for showing him another place for some "indulgences". I went ahead and got three macarons - when I break a fast, I break a fast! - Coconut/White Chocolate, Nougat and Passion Fruit/Chocolate. Oooohhh sooooo gooooood! :)
*Just for kicks, we walked over to Madison Square Park to see what the line was like at Shake Shack - and to see what the Frozen Custard Flavor du Jour was - which turned out to be Lemon Verbena. Alas, the line was about 75 people deep - or about an hour's wait, so we just kept walking. ;)
-
Finally, we walked up to 32nd Street - a.k.a. Koreatown - where I stopped in to Mandoo Bar to pick up a bag of their amazing Kimchi Dumplings (frozen). 22 dumplings filled with kimchi, pork and vegetables for only $9.00 - a very good deal. And they should make a nice dinner later on next week. :)
Awww... My nephew was on the Fox Morning News in DC this morning! My brother just sent me the link:
Holly Morris: Blow 'Em Up Day at Noodles & Noggins (http://www.myfoxdc.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=760B380E23561BA35ABAF27C7FF89F6F?contentId=6334769&version=3&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1)
There are two video clips. You can see him - as well as his mother and Emily, my niece - in the background a few times. He's wearing a red t-shirt and brown shorts. -He's also the one who keeps yelling "Nitrogen" as well as mugging for the camera every now and then in the second clip.
...I can't wait to see them again next weekend!
-
Back from dinner. All packages are packaged and awaiting postage - we'll try to get all of the postage done tomorrow and Sunday, then take all this stuff over to the post office Monday morning and drop it off.
-
Well, I'm off. I bought some frozen chocolate chip cookie dough from Schwann's yesterday (they come here to our work!) and I may make some cookies tonight. :D I know they're not home-made, but they are home-baked...and that's good enough for me...for now.
Until later!
-
Not a bad day for orders - we probably had forty or fifty.
-
Jose - the DAMN YANKEES auditions you played for yesterday and today, were these Equity only auditions? Were they for certain characters? I just can't imagine an audition in New York that isn't packed with actors.
It was an Equity Open Call, but since the day was so slow, we were able to see non-Equity people throughout the day. In fact, we were able to see all the non-Equity people who signed up to be seen. It was just a general call for everyone: leads and ensemble. The only two roles cast so far are Applegate (Sean Hayes) and Lola (Jane Krakowski). Everything else is still available. We were really surprised at the low showing of older character men and women today. Usually when a show is looking to fill "older" roles, we get quite a nice turnout. Not this time, not over the past three days. ???
-
OH!
BK - I happened to run into an old friend of mine from DC while walking around Chelsea earlier tonight. He was walking around with another friend of his. Who happens to star in THIS (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/116929.html). ;)
-
Starring Randy Jones of The Village People? Isn't he the one with the "call me Peggy" gossip going around for years?
I see John Doyle will direct BOUNCE at the Public. Isn't his 15 minutes over already? I thought the Metropolitan Opera debacle of PETER GRIMES was the nail in the coffin.
Well, I'm just glad that the other director who was attached to the show last year is now no longer attached to it. :-X
AWWW... and funny. I didn't spot Emily ???
Back in my room at the end of a very long day. The
bored board meeting was uneventful, except for the president giving each of us a thank-you gift - a small bear wearing an AAUW T-shirt.
-
DRJOSE - your nephew nearly got a BIG CLOSEUP!!!
Oh... She's being carried by her mother. Vero is wearing a black hoodie. I think you can only see her in the first clip - which is the second one. Vero works at Noodles & Noggins, and she was "working" this morning.
-
DRJOSE - your nephew nearly got a BIG CLOSEUP!!!
And a lot of Coke on his face too!
-Hmm... That almost sounds a bit unseemly. ;)
-
DR Jose - cute video of your family members. Those activities remind me of the stuff Richard used to do when he was teaching math & science to gifted 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Did everybody get hosed down after the cola geysers?
I'm not sure if everyone got cleaned up afterwards. I'm just wondering if today was a school holiday or if that was filmed before they all went to school? ;)
-
Oh, we now have hot water ;D
-
We had our hottest day of the Spring here today (over 70F). The weird part is wearing sandals while looking at huge boulders of snow/ice.
We had so much snow this year that there were piles 10 feet+ high. And they haven't melted yet. It is very odd!
-
DR Cillaliz - glad to hear that your presentation went so well today. That group sounds like it could have been an AAUW branch!
-
Thanks Ginny. They think they are the only Interpro group left in the country. The rest all merged into Torch clubs http://www.torch.org/ They are an interesting group. Every Friday it's lunch and a speaker. That's all there is to it. No special volunteer projects etc just talking and learning new things. Pretty cool actually
-
OK, folks, I'm gonna crash and try to rest up for another long day tomorrow.
'night!
-
MattH, have you watched DOSTI: FRIENDS FOREVER yet? I am so curious as to what your thoughts on it are/will be....and if you cry/ed as much as I did.
I watched it a couple of months ago, DR MBarnum, and wrote about it. Don't you remember my mentioning how surprised I was about their sometimes speaking English and switching back to Hindi off and on during the entire film. Totally caught me by surprise. I enjoyed the movie despite not having much physical contact. And yes, I did find it very moving indeed.
-
What a full evening of viewing I've had.
I began with NANCY GOES TO RIO. Never been one of my favorite MGM musicals even though there are a couple of beautiful songs ("Time and Time Again" and "Magic Is the Moonlight"). There were some registration problems off and on during the movie but much of it looks really wonderful. Not surprised by that. The numbers excerpted in THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT III which I reviewed on Blu-ray some months ago were eye-popping. Too bad they didn't have audio stems to fashion a stereo soundtrack for the movie. I'd love to hear some of those songs with a fuller presence.
And, DR JMK, I noticed more sound problems with this one than I did with HIT THE DECK.
-
Next, I put in the JANE POWELL: PRIVATE SCREENINGS interview (on TWO WEEKS WITH LOVE) and watched that.
Of course, I had seen it on TCM when it first aired but not since then, so it was nice to see it again.
-
Next was the last aired episode of MOONLIGHT. Made me swoon all over again for Alex O'Laughlin and can't wait to see where they take the character over the next new episodes which start up next week.
-
When that was over, I watched CANTERBURY'S LAW which had two cases tonight: one interesting and one not so much.
Easy to tell why the show just didn't catch on. They didn't give the audience much satisfaction with the case that was interesting tonight, and Canterbury's personal life is such a shambles. Who needs this kind of bad feeling? No way to launch a show with so much turmoil from the get-go.
-
No writing to do, so I think I'll close up shop and head down to bed.
Good night!
-
Watching motion picture number two on DVD.
That was a great review JMK! I think you really have the hang of this Bollywood stuff...you expressed a lot of what I feel about these films...they are just so much like the musicals that Hollywood used to make!
-
Oh, I had thought that was your thoughts on MY BROTHER .....NIKHIL ( the movie about AIDS). I somehow missed that you had watched both Bollywood movies.
-
Back from the Dan Butler movie. We enjoyed it and it was fun to meet Dan Butler.
I am now very tired and must hit the hay!
-
That new minister must be keeping DearReaderLaura DR really hopping.
He doesn't begin until May sometime. Other crises have been keeping me busy.
-
Oh, and now I know what MISTY is! I have been listening to the CD from Tomovoz...of course I had heard that song many times...just didn't realize what the title of it was! My favorite rendition of it was by George Shearing.
And yes Tom, you did send the compilation of SUKIYAKA as done by many different people and I lool forward to listening to it tomorrow (I love that tune!).
-
Might I just as where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
You'd think it was a Friday night or something.
-
BK - Got the box, thanks.
I sent you an email, no problems, just something I thought might interest you - mundane stuff about shipping methods.
-
I responded - we're insured.
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
For some reason it seems like Saturday and yet it's Friday. There are boxes all over the dining room awaiting their postage strips, which will hopefully be here by noon.
