Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little this'a and a little that'a with an emphasis on the latter, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - frankly, as the Gershwins put it, they can't be bothered now.

Wouldn't this stir up the pot!

NEWSMAX (http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2007/5/15/131947.shtml?s=ic)

Quote
Bloomberg Ready to Spend $1 Billion on Presidential Run, Say Friends

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is prepared to spend an unprecedented $1 billion of his personal fortune to seek the White House as a third-party candidate, say sources close to Bloomberg.

Another friend said Bloomberg has "lowered the bar” for a final decision on joining the campaign.
Bloomberg has now told close sources that he will make a third-party run if he believes he can influence the national debate and would spend up to $1 billion.
Earlier he was telling friends he would run only if he thought he could win a plurality in a three-way race and would spend $500 million – less than 10 percent of his $5.5 billion fortune.

Well, one things for sure - he couldn't be accused of being in some other special interests' pocket!

Now, who else to put on the ticket:

Some one from the Southwest for geographic balance?
A women for divesity?
An academic with Foreign Policy credentials?

A self-funded Independent ticket could be the ultimate "None Of The Above" solution.

If the major parties nominate polarizing candidates like Hillary or Romney, this kind of Independent ticket could win!

der Brucer

And the ticket would not be burdened with a Party Platform!

Generally I do not support the concept of third party candidates at a national level, but a true independent, on the otherhand....

Dear DR Jose:

Thanks for the link to the International Association of Culinary Professionals.  Their awards certainly are an alternative to the Beards.

It will take me a while to go through their archives, of course.  But, looking at this year's award winners, I'm surprised that they didn't even nominate The Omnivore's Dilemma for their Literary Food Writing category.  I found their winner for the category, My Life in France (Julia Child), enjoyable, but nowhere near the quality of Michael Pollan's book.

(Of their other two nominees, I've read and enjoyed The United States of Arugula, a very good modern history of the food industry, but haven't yet tried Slater's The Kitchen Diaries.)

I don't think our esteemed BK watches much broadcast television.  DVDs, yes, but not much that comes over the airwaves.

Modification: Now, if you were to expand the question to the DRs in general, I'm certain we'll get some very interesting opinions.

Loved that theme song for The Debbie Reynolds Show ("With a little love, just a little love") which was also used so well for the Attila the Hun Show on the Monty Python series.  (And the Monty Python DVD was the only place I could get even a partial copy of the Debbie Reynolds theme song!)

Good morning all.

Mom is still with me.   :)

They offered to have her transfered back to the other Hospice House but she is in such pain that I didn't want them to move her and cause her even more.

I had them call a priest in to give her the last rites.  I wasn't sure if she would want that or not but I thought it would be ok.

They are giving her heavy drugs for the pain so she is sleeping and looks peaceful--for which I am grateful.

I don't know how much longer it will be but I know that it is very close. They say she could fool us and be better but I don't think that is going to happen.  I don't really think they think that either.

Thank you all for the prayers and vibes.

Last night DR Cillaliz asked:
Quote
Is there anyone here besides me who has seen Spring Awakening and not liked it?

I didn't see SA in the theatre but I have seen an ootlegbay video.  But even beforehand, I developed an intense dislike for this show.  I find it incredibly fake.  The authors have taken a play written over a hundred years ago that is about strict teen-age sexual repression in 1880s Germany and attached modern day American adolescent angst on it.  Whatever issues today's kids have with sex, repression is definitely not one of them.  I don't think that lack of information has been an issue since the 60's.  I think it's hilarious that the authors are trying to pass off the problems of their old Europe characters as the same of today's teens.

"trying to pass off"?--heck, what am I saying?--they have obviously succeeded!  And why?  Because the characters sing through very modern, catchy alt-rock idioms and are overall cute boys and girls?  I'm not sure--I would have hoped that audiences would be able to see through such a scam.  But I guess not...

Anyway, thus concludes my rant for the day...

I don’t know much about plots and conspiracies and such.  Of course, I do know, for a fact, that Woody Harrelson’s father single-handedly shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald and then got himself sent to prison so that he could inject Jack Ruby with a new cancer-causing virus.  The virus was borrowed from the CIA who at the time was trying to develop a new deadly serum that could wipe-out all the queers, druggies, and heterosexual African women throughout the world.

Still, it seems to me that if I was going to be involved in a major gasoline conspiracy intended to defraud the American people; I would begin my plan just at the start of the summer holiday season when prices were always expected to climb.  Not only would it fool a lot of the population, but I would also have, to my advantage, all the usual pundits rambling on endlessly about supply and demand…increased daylight hours for driving…. vacations…. etc.

In addition, if I was really smart, I would make sure that the Eastern Seaboard was the last area to experience the increased gasoline prices; since obviously the principle seats of government and commerce are located in that area of the country and those individuals would react far more quickly were it to affect their own personal lives and pocketbooks.

Just something to ponder…

Per DTM's question....

Since I have moved to Fargo, I do not watch a lot of broadcast telly due to my work hours during the school year and not being able to afford cable in which they want a king's ransom for mere basic. I tend to watch tapes, dvds or listen to music.

In the past.... let me see....

THE COLBYS
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS - nothing like the movie... bad acting killed it and lame stories
PACIFIC BLUE - a rip off of Baywatch - even worse!

Here are to soaps I NEVER EVER want to see the light of day again...

Passions -- lame stories, bad acting and they need to remove the typewriter, word processer and other writing implements from this writer. I watched it once and was not impressed.
Sunset Beach

I may think of a few more later on. Interesting question DtM

I have a question for BK and all the Dear Readers:

Why is it that when one paints, the little flying bugs come and affix themselves to the new paint?

The paint manufacturers add female bug pheromones that attract the male bugs and they screw up your paint job and you then go buy more paint. The government has known about this, but significant campaign contributions to the "right people" have kept the practice secret.

An exchange from last night's debate:

Quote
The candidates also were asked to respond to a hypothetical scenario — homicide bombings at three shopping centers near major U.S. cities. With hundreds dead and thousands injured, a fourth attack is averted when the attackers are captured off the Florida coast and taken to Guantanamo Bay to be questioned. U.S. intelligence believes another, larger attack is planned and could come at any time. How aggressively should the detainees be interrogated about the where the next attack might be?

First to answer was Candidate A:

"We could never gain as much we would gain from that torture as we lose in world opinion. We do not torture people," he said. "It's not about the terrorists, it's about us. It's about what kind of country we are. And a fact: The more physical pain you inflict on someone, the more they're going to tell you what they think you want to know."

Candidate B replied:

"You said the person is going to be in Guantanamo. I'm glad they're at Guantanamo. I don't want them on our soil. I want them in Guantanamo where they don't get the access to lawyers they get when they're on our soil. I don't want them in our prisons. I want them there. Some people have said we ought to close Guantanamo. My view is, we ought to double Guantanamo.

Candidate A reflects my hopes of what we still could be, Candidate B my fears of what we have become.

I disagree with you, DR DakotaCelt, about THE KNIGHTS OF PROSPERITY fizzling in quality as its season progressed. Indeed, some of the later episodes were much funnier than the early ones and once they were bounced out of Mick Jagger's apartment as a possible robbery site, the search for a new place became fun all over again. (Among the episodes that ABC didn't air was a new story arc with Ray Romano's townhouse to be burgled.)

I saw those comparison screen captures between TO CATCH A THIEF's old and new transfer, and honestly, I thought the old transfer (which is the one I've got) was better. The newer captures looked a tad soft to me. So I determined then and there not to spend money on the new one.

If it comes out on Blu-ray (and I've read nothing about ANY Hitchcock being given a Blu-ray or HD-DVD transfer), I may consider ungrading. For now, what I have is perfectly fine.

I cried thoughout the last half of last night's GILMORE GIRLS.  I can't remember the last time a show ending made me cry (never?).

*
*
*

It was a really nice ending for the most part.  Filled with lots of great moments.

I watched it at 10pm (when it's  on here). And i totally forgot that most people get it at 8pm. When i went on the televisionwithoutpity forum at 11pm the recap was already up (along with many pages of comments).

The key one (which i agree with) is that we wanted more of the lorelai/luke reunion.  All we had was him planning a superparty for rory (her daughter). And when he found out it was going to rain during the party, he stayed up all night sewing tarps together!  When lorelai found out she ran over and they kissed. But instead of professing their love, they merely turned the camera to the town. And that was it!

The last scene was sweet!  and it ended with mother and daugher having coffee at luke's diner.

An obervation (which does not impact on your conclusions):

there is still a segment of American youth not only sexually repressed, but kept in sexual ignorance - you'll find lots of them being home schooled.

RE: DANCING WITH THE STARS.

DR Cillaliz, there isn't really a final two for DANCING WITH THE STARS.  Next week is the finale.

Granted they will most likely tell someone they are third. But all three performers will perform in the finals.

I actually always thought that joey would win.  I don't see laila winning. I think it is between apolo and joey.  But it also really depends who ian and cheryl's votes go to.  I would not think they would go to laila. I sort of wonder if they might go to joey.  I really want apolo to win. He has been my favorite since the first night.

The dog broke out of his crate on the way to the airport.  Craig had to wait 5 hours for a new crate and a new flight.  Needless to say we did not make it to Pittsburgh in on day.  At least I didn’t have to drive it all at once, and we did need to stop at a PetCo for food (Yogi’s was confiscated at customs) and he desperately needed a bath & the crate cleaned.   We were very lucky the nice groomers accommodated us so late in the evening.

Craig & I were busy from morning until late, mostly only eating one meal a day-a late dinner at the hotel.

My question for the day is similar to DTM's...what new show in the past did you LOVE and thought was just great, but was cancelled right off the bat.

For me that would be the night time Aaron Spelling soap from 1997, PACIFIC PALISADES which starred that Diet Pepsi guy Lucky Vanous, the hilarious sit-com GREG THE BUNNY and a night time soap from 1996 starring George Eads called SAVANNAH. I was hooked on all three shows at that time. HOMEFRONT is another one that I really enjoyed, although I think it may have lasted a whole season.

MBarnum, I really meant to sooner & am sorry I took so long.  So much I wanted to do & couldn't.  I did get the essential things done, like moving Craig into an apartment-problems and all.  We also got him a bed to sleep on and a desk, cell phone, dishes, tv, etc.  He still needs a computer, driver's license & multiple other things.

Yesterday was orientation & he met the other students in the program.  A good number of them had also been in the Peace Corps.  None from Romania, mostly from Eastern Europe & Asia.

I'll second that! I think ABC stopped believing in it and the show was quite wonderful.  Of course, I'm a bit prejudiced because I had a friend in it.

As for Spring Awakening...

I have met a few people who also did not like it.  Myself, I liked it.

As for the repression aspect... The convention of having them take a microphone out of their costume and start singing their "inner monologues" worked for me.  And having those thoughts told in a modern language - both through the language and the music - worked for me too.  I liked the juxtaposition.

-And I have wondered if a different composer had been brought on board and tried to create a more period feeling for the music.  I have a sense that that approach would require a very skilled composer and lyricist in order to avoid the obviously melodramatic and treacly aspects of the plot.  But an opera, maybe?

And as far as today's teens not having the same problems as their Old Europe counterparts...  Today's teens still have problems, and, in my opinion, with all the information available to them, the problems are amplified.  Then once you add the internet hook-ups, STDs, AIDS, and the still not declining rate of teen pregnancies, well...  I think today's teens still have problems.  Unfortunately, instead of being "repressed", they are either ignorant, oblivious and/or have a very false sense of invincibility.

...And that's my soapbox moment for the decade.

Thanks Singdaw.

Craig found a great apartment in a beautiful neighborhood across the street from a fantastic park with lovely trails.  Unfortunately it was not available in time.

Instead he moved into an ok place a fraction of the size, in a nice neighborhood close to the market and other shops & restaurants.  The landlords seemed like very nice people…..  So far the landlord still hasn’t done things he promised (it’s tough when you need a place immediately), including installing the frig and replacing a window (at the moment it has a large piece of wood over the hole).

After orientation yesterday there was a party downtown.  The party then moved closer to where most the graduate students seem to be living-right near Craig.   :)

The show I have used lately for a discussion of a show I loved pulled from the schedule too early was Tim Daly's EYES. It did get to air four or five weeks, but it was a sensationally witty and sophisticated caper show.

I see that last season's Bradley Cooper comedy KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL which also got pulled way too soon is coming out on DVD next week with all 13 episodes, most unaired.

The paint manufacturers add female bug pheromones that attract the male bugs and they screw up your paint job and you then go buy more paint. The government has known about this, but significant campaign contributions to the "right people" have kept the practice secret.

der Brucer

Speaking of conspiracy theories -- this one is true:  During the early 1940s during an experiment gone wrong -- one being conducted by the government during WWW II to create a new race of uber human war machines to spread conservative views of imperialism and dominance across the world -- a boy escaped.  They could never track him down.  Word is he was adopted by a family named Cheney (who already had children of their own -- among them a son named Richard, but who they called Dick because they believed it fit his personality better).  Anywhoo, this boy grew up with all the Cheneys under their mentorship (he was really close to Dick).  Today, there are no official records for this guy, but he is part of Homeland Security (and rumored to be Bush's BFF).  He's a plant on popular chat websites, where he can monitor the American Public for the government.  His MO is that he's a master of cut and paste (the info and photos are usually accredited to reliable sources, but in reality are just made-up stuff that the government gives him to feed to the readers) and he has a pet peeve about people who use "your" when it should be "you're" (and other grammatical errors along that line)...

People, I swear this is the gospel.  An article about it is coming out in this week's National Enquirer...

Question for BK:

In television fall seasons past, what show did you most looking forward to that turned out to be the biggest disappointment?

The Tammy Grimes Show - I was completely smitten with her, and I couldn't wait for this show to come on.  And it was awful, and she was awful on camera and it was a grand disappointment.

Amazing Stories - was really looking forward to it because of the hype and the people involved - imagine my surprise when it turned out to be one of the biggest pieces of crap ever done on television - not one redeeming episode.

That's Life - the first musical comedy TV series - a great idea undone by bad scripts and not so great songs.  I did like Bobby Morse and E.J. Peaker, though.

DR SWW - You're welcome for the IACP link.  When I first became a member of The Good Cook Book Club - one of the various spin-offs of the Book of the Month Club - they would have these special flyers featuring the winners of the Beard Foundation and IACP awards.  Hmm... What are these? and I guess I should add them to my library.  ;)

-And if those flyers happened to coincide with a 1/2 price and free shipping and handling sale, well...

My understanding is that there is a slightly different focus on the books that each organization chooses to evaluate.  Yes, there is some overlap, but I also understand that they purposely try to spread the wealth as it were.  In any case, I've been introduced to many new cookbooks via the honors, as well as been prompted to give some cookbooks more than just a cursory glance in the bookstore.

NEW CBS SEASON (http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/05/16/the-upfronts-cbs/)

I'm looking for ward to:

Cane: Jimmy Smits (West Wing) stars in this drama about a Cuban-American family that "explores the American dream, past, present, and future." The story follows two rival families that have built an empire in the sugar and rum industries. Smits will be joined by Hector Elizondo (Chicago Hope) and Rita Moreno.

and

Moonlight: Formerly known as Twilight, this one centers on a private investigator/vampire. Yes, stodgy old CBS is making a vampire P.I. show. Alex O'Loughlin stars as the vampire investigator and the story will revolve around his struggles with immortality, feuds with adversaries in the vampire world, and a romance with a mortal. Along for the ride are Amber Valetta (Transporter 2), Rade Serbedzija (24), Shannon Lucio (The O.C.), and James Black (All Of Us).

PACIFIC BLUE - a rip off of Baywatch - even worse!

"Pacific Blue" was never a major network show.  It was USA Network.  And it was a police show and involved police issues.  The only similiarities between it and that lifeguard show was that the station was in a beach community in which bicycles were a more efficient and safe means of apprehending criminals.

And as long as Rick Rossovich was on it as the captain of the squad, it was a GREAT show, all things considered.  And IMO, of course.

When it "youthened up" with late-teen and early 20s cops, it lost ALL its viability for me.

I watched my DVD of "Becket" last night!

What a TREAT this restoration is.  It's not "perfect" in the sense that it was miraculously restored from a mid-60s quality to a state-of-the-art contemporary quality...but it's spectacular for a 43-year-old film and it looks really spiffy on my 37-inch HDTV screen!

The sound is great, and that Laurence Rosenthal underscore resonates much more for me now that I've seen the film with 43 years between viewings.

I totally appreciate the performances of John Gielgud, Pamela Brown and Martita Hunt more now than I did back when it was released.  Then, I was all about Burton and O'Toole and nothing else mattered.

This is a supremely handsome production and the hallmark of Hal B. Wallis' career.

RE: AMERICAN IDOL.
Oh and i did not like some of the judges/producers choices. "Roxanne"? "She works hard for her money"?

Idolvotes has them "too close to call" with Melinda, Jordin and Blake separated by less than a point.  Zabasearch says it will post its predictions at Noon.

I agree wholeheartedly with your disappointment over song choices.  They were uniformly awful, I thought...but the judges and producers may have been wanting to see who could do well with the songs despite everything.  I particularly disliked the producers' choice for Melinda...that Ike and Tina Turner song "Nut House" something-or-other.  There wasn't much to it and the song wasn't a showcase for vocals at all.  They ALL did well, I thought, given their gifts.

A character named Ruth Bender (says IMDB)

I can understand your point of view.  I think maybe seeing it from onstage may have been a disadvantage.  I know I didn't get the full effect of the lighting and there were times where I was so interested in what they were doing technically that I let the story slide a little.  So, to be fair, I may have felt differently if I had seen it from the audience first.

And at some point I realized Duncan Sheik was playing in the orchestra (do you call that an orchestra when it's more of a band?) So it was fun to watch him play...

Ok, maybe I wasn't exactly getting into the mood of the piece.

I thought that was the whole point, it's his play with modern music.  So, I don't get how Steven Satar is nominated for best book. Is it that he changed the original play so much that it is no longer the original play?

I'm not sure how the actual rules read, but I suspect if you change one line then it's a "based on" situation - and, if the original author is dead and the copywrite expired it's open season.

One thing I've noticed today -- no one WANTS to go out on a limb and say anything for sure.  Also, many are thinking that Simon's comment at the end of the show about wanting his girl, Melinda, in the final -- and not choosing either of the other two over one another to advance -- might have had an impact on voting last night.

I think nobody is going out on a limb because it's too close to call. But i suspect that lakisha's votes would have gone to jordin and melinda. So that makes me worry about blake.

I agree with the fact that what simon said will impact the voting. I actually think that is what will save melinda. I would predicted that she would have been in danger. BUt people listen to simon. ANd if he said she is the best, then i think that will count. I predict she will be safe, mostly because of his comments.

During the years that I was doing a lot of plays each season, I tried never to get hooked on any new series or miniseries, because I always ended up missing a lot of the crucial episodes.

However, a few seasons ago, I got hooked on the FOX Network series JOHN DOE starring Dominic Purcel (PRISON BREAK).   I loved that show (okay, I loved him).  The show supposedly took place in Seattle, but although they worked very hard on using correct street names and landmarks when talking about thecity; but  it was quite obvious that the show was filmed in Vancouver.  In the last scene of the last epsiode they ever showed, it was revealed that the man who was attempting to destroy all of John Doe's efforts to discover his past; was actually the man who claimed to be John Doe's only friend!

Damn them.  Damn them all to Hell.

I'm not exactly sure what the Tony rules are regarding translations and adaptations, but I believe the book for Spring Awakening is most definitely an adaptation.  The whole text of the original play (even in translation) is not presented during the course of Spring Awakening.  Additionally, some plot points have also been changed from the original play.  They're minor ones, but changes nonetheless.  I think the comparison to My Fair Lady is a good one.

DR elmore3003, did the Post Awful ever deliver that Tallis item I tried to send to you?

DRsingdaw! I kept thinking "what was I supposed to do this week?" and it was to thank you.  I am truly embarassed and humbled by my unintentional rudeness to you.  Please forgive me.

Something tells me I owe DR tomovoz a big thanks for his shipment as well.  I can only blame outside stress and preoccupation.  My critics would say I'm an irresponsible ingrate, if not something much harsher, but I can admit to irresponsible ingrate,  I hope you will both accept my apologies and thanks.

On another note, I'm having coffee with the wonderful baritone Rodney Gilfry in around 45 minutes.

I kind of like the SPRING AWAKENING cd....but I must tell you that even when I was a teenager - I thought the problems of teenagers were boring....you can imagine how I feel now.

DR MBARNUM I think HOMEFRONT made it to almost TWO seasons.

I couldn't agree more. When I read a biography, that's the part of a person's life that interests me the least.

I couldn't wait to get out of my own teen years and be an adult.

I had a long afternoon of viewing, and I enjoyed it all.

I began with VERONICA MARS. Actually, Veronica's first case as a true gade-A detective was weak as water. Keith's crime investigation was actually more interesting and open-ended since no arrests were made, and now his position as sheriff is in jeopardy. I'll be interested to see how this all wraps up in the next two episodes (combined into a two hour season finale next week.)

Some other comments about CBS' schedule for next year:

WITHOUT A TRACE and SHARK swapping time slots. Smart move since CSI has suffered a ratings hit this year, CBS needed a stronger show to bolster the 10 p.m. hour on Thursday.

For those wondering about THE AMAZING RACE. There will be only one edition of the show this year rather than two, and it won't start the season.

Smart of CBS to put that vampire show on after GHOST WHISPERER on Friday night. They should make a compatible pair of shows.

Disappointed that OLD CHRISTINE only got a half season order and will be a midseason replacement. The show deserves better than that.

Wednesday evening greetings!  Yikes, it's been a wild 24 hours!

At dinner last night, DS Rob mentioned a few things he'd like to retrieve from his room at UC for his recuperation week here at home, so we went on a little family outing.  He got his stuff, we picked up his girlfriend, went to Graeter's for ice cream, took Mary Linda home, and headed back to Middletown.  We watched a spectacular lightening show until we were about 10 minutes from the house, when the deluge of rain and hail began.  The traffic lights were out as was power throughout our neighborhood.  The power came back on sometime during the night, but I had to be at a venue early this morning to help with the spring conference of the

Miami Valley Association of Volunteer Administrators (http://www.orgsites.com/oh/dayton-mvava)

and just now have had time to verify that my computer was not fried last night (Whew!) and catch up on the posts.

Hmm...  So...

One of the numerous Chinese Food Delivery places in the neighborhood dropped off some new menus the other day, and since I had a hankering for dinner and Chinese Food...

While perusing the new menu, I was intrigued by something listed in the "Sandwich" section:  Szechuan Wonton.  Hmm...  It was right under the Chicken Filet Sandwich and the Fish Filet Sandwich.  Hmm... A Szechuan Wonton Sandwich?  Hmm... Well, it was only $4.00, so I thought I might as well risk it.

Well... When I called the order in, the woman at the other end wasn't exactly sure what I was ordering.  I gave her the item number from the menu, and she said, "Oh... OK."  My curiosity increased.

About 25 minutes later, the buzzer rang, and after paying the delivery guy, I checked the contents of the bag.  Steamed Veggie - check.  Orange Chicken - check.  Szechuan Wonton "Sandwich"... check.. I think.  *I almost thought I did not get the right order since the bag was so heavy.  Well, it turns out they offer very generous portions.  In any case...

The Szechuan Wonton "Sandwich" turned out to be a tray filled with Steamed Pork Wontons.  Lots of steamed pork wontons.  Those wontons were then covered with a Sesame-Peanut Sauce, and then garnished with bean sprouts, other sliced veggies and sesame seeds.  Szechuan?  I don't think so.  Delicious. - Yes!

-And I have enough food for at least two if not three more meals!

*And I'm tempted to order the "Szechuan Wonton Sandwich" again sometime just to see if I get the same thing.  ;)

I'm becoming the go-to guy at work.

I had a regular register today, not even express line.

"Can you go outside and relieve Mike, so he can take his break?"

I go outside and wrangle carts.

I get back inside.

"Can you take over the self-check lanes, so Gwen can take her break?"

Yep, I sure enough took over the self-check lanes for another fifteen minutes.

And, later in the day, subbed for Danielle for yet another fifteen minutes on self-check while she took a break.

It breaks up the day.

I have had my telephonic conversation and it was a good one.  I've agreed to move the alumni fundraiser show one week later, so that it's not so much in conflict with the LACC foundation's gala, which is on October 20th.  So, we've pushed one week to November 5th, and now I have the full support of the LACC foundation and all their mailing lists.  He's also asked for my help with their gala, in structurning their evening and making sure it's entertaining, and I've agreed to do so, and in return he's agreed to make sure we're fully funded, even if the Foundation has to help.

It's nice to be nice.  ;D

We saw the plasticized bodies at the museum today. I think I had seen them all on television, so nothing new there. What we found fascinating were the organs and joints and things in the cases.

Good evening dear Esteemed, telephoned, funded, lithe, and buxom BK --

And a very good evening to the assorted cookies here in the Living Room.   I just got home a bit ago, after a very long work day.... Gad, I'm out of practice at sticking to the grindstone for 8 or 9 hours in a row.

But, at least it is some billable time.  ;)   The hours will translate into some yummy dinners in NYC this summer!

TACOMA, Wash. —  Two Union Pacific freight trains derailed early Wednesday between Tacoma and Olympia, disrupting Amtrak passenger rail service, railroad officials said.

My ex-boyfriend works for Amtrak, but he works on the Seattle-to-Chicago round-trip run.  Fortunately, his train doesn't go where this happened.

SPOILER re the film TWO OF US

Apparently, the ending was re-filmed so that one of the two male teens chose to end up with his girlfriend.  The version that's circulating now has the two guys ending up together, happily.

I had a very interesting day.  It was pretty normal until this afternoon.  There was some mess up on a case assignment and it ended up going to another lawyer, so I volunteered to copy the file and take it over....now you have to understand, I never deliver things, it gives our investigator something to do, but this time I just decided I wanted to.

I walked out our office door and there was my insurance guy, he asked me to step in and now I'm all set on my office ins, I left there and went to deliver the package in the Frances building.  I was going to an office on the 6th floor, so I got in the elevator and when the door opened I walked out.

I was on the wrong floor and there was the building manager. We were in front of the office of a lawyer who died in a car accident about a month ago, sad story, any way she said the executor of his estate just happened to be in the office right now and she had just mentioned to him that I may want to buy some of the office furniture as they are selling all of it.

I went in and it was nice stuff, at least Jeff's office, anyway, the executor made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I bought the whole room, desk, credenza, lateral file, bookcase, leather chair and leather side chairs.  It was wonderful  I only need a mover to take them from the fifth floor to the second floor.

Then I had to go try to get out of the desk and lateral file I already bought.  The guy wasn't happy about it (scratch and dent, probably all sales final, I didn't ask) but I was very nice, I didn't explain the why just that it didn't work and remided him he hadn't delivered anything.   He said we could work it out.

The descriptions of that exhibit have sounded fascinating Laura..... I'm glad that you went and saw it.  I've considered seeing if my nephew might like to go to it.  He has always enjoyed the science museum, and has won a couple of science fairs, and he's 13, so I think it would be of interest to him.

So, I am most happy. Without talking figures, I got all of it for $200 more than I was paying for a desk and lateral file alone.  And it all seems to be in really good shape.

Things had gotten me off track a little over the past few days, but this was so cool.  The building manager said she mentioned my name and the elevator opened and there I was. Too funny.

The executor was the lawyer's father-in-law, (he's a banker). He said he was overwhelmed with trying to finish everything up at the office and that having one whole room of furnitire sold really was a load off of his mind.  He also said he could try to sell it piece-meal but that Jeff would have wanted it to go to someone in the business, like me.

I am going to meet with him later about the secretary's desk and 3 file cabinets that they are still using.  Once again, the building manager knew best.

I missed UGLY BETTY!  I'll try to watch it online tomorrow.

I met Mr Gilfry, his daughter and her boyfriend at Artie's for coffee and cheesecake.  His daughter will be attending grad school at Juilliard in the fall and they were apartment hunting.  After an hour and a half at Artie's we ended up at La Cucina for margaritas and Mexican food!  Mr Ron Raines was there with the men of THE GUIDING LIGHT, and introductions were passed all around.  We were there for two and a half hours, and now I'm home.  It was a fantastic evening.

But did you get YOUR break??

Hi everyone,

Just wanted you to know that as of right now, there is little change.

We now have a criital nurse in the room with us--just for Mom.  She will be with use until eight tomorrow morning.  I'm not sure what will happen if nothing happenes before then.

Her name is Denise.

Thank you all once again for all of your prayers, vibes, love and support.  I've had some amazing phone calls today and I can't even begin to tell you how much it all means to me right now.

It's so hard to just sit here and watch and wait.  I cry, I'm fine.  I cry, I'm fine.

Denise made me take a cat nap and right now I feel very rested even though it was only an hour.

It feels good to have someone here with me but it really isn't about me--it's about Mom.  All I ask is that she not be in pain and I will be content.

I was really mad that they dumped renee, who was the best of the three.  She had the best commercial and the best photo, yet they kept natasha???

Geez how many chances are they going to give natasha. Her pic was not that great and her commercial was pretty bad!  I was so happy that she did not win!

Actually my fav was brittany (until she had that meltdown).

Why did they cut renee's hair so short (making her look older) if they did not want her to look that way!

I really wish we could have seen her do runway.

Okay i am so happy that blake is safe. But i feel so bad for melinda (and DR RonP, sorry).   But i must say i hated how they did the results.  They made jordin safe so quickly and without anyone suspense.  They dragged things out so they ran out of time (did anyone here what simon said when melinda was eliminated, i really wanted to hear that).

DR Jose, i doubt melinda knew.  I think chris r knew because he said he had a feeling. Although he could have potentially just checked with dialidol or something and seen that he was going.

I"m sure melinda was nervous because she was told they votes were so close. THat meant anyone could go. Though i am really surprised it was her.

So who will her votes go to? I'm guessing mostly jordin.

Actually, I think grasshoppers, which are with us almost all the time in some quantities, have cyclical patterns similar to locusts, which afflict communities every seven years or so.

Or am I confusing this with something else?

Today was a productive day. After my classes I met with my counselor and we discussed my next ( and last) two terms and decided the classes I need to take to graduate and transfer successfully. We also decided that I want to change my Major from Theater to Communications with an emphasis on Public Relations. I will still pursue acting, but not take classes in college, just outside.

I then came home and we listened to Bruce's Brad Ellis Big Band version of Cabaret. :) I loved it, of course.

For those of you who are music fans and either live here in LA or may be visiting, an event will be taking place here in hollywood that my mother and I  have been enjoying for 3 years. The 2007 Hollywood & Highland Summer Jazz Concert Series. The music is great, usually from pro's who have been playing for many years, big bands, crowds of music lovers, and great food from the surrounding restaurants. " Also, enjoy tasting fine wines while nibbling on an assortment of cheeses, fruits and breads prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering. Entertainment is FREE. Wine tasting is $10.00. All proceeds benefit Project Angel Food". The concerts take place in the outside courtyard under the stars.

I thought Mr. Yamin sounded pretty good.  Alas, the song was not so good.  And the almost constantly closed eyes drove me up the wall too.

I agree completely. I thought his tone and phrasing were impeccable. The song was rather repetative and dull. The closed eyes didn't bother me much. Lots of singers are more inward and outward. Not good for singing actors, of course, but I've noticed quite a few singers who don't connect their eyes with the audience.

CROSSING JORDAN had a plane crash series finale episode. I have a feeling we wouldn't have been shown that last scene if the show were coming back next year. It would have been a cliffhanger for next season.

I'm going to miss the show, but it was time for it to go. There were lots of cast changes in the last three seasons, and that's usually a time to know that a show is on the downside. Only a few (LAW & ORDER, ER) usually are able to withstand changing major members of the cast so frequently.

When I was 13, there were several body parts I was interested in seeing.

Like always, LOST has a few tricks up its sleeve.

Sorry I have been so E & T lately.... all the school, dancing school and singing lesson concerts/recitals have hit at once with their respective rehearsals...

also as the Vixter seems to be growing by leaps and bounds overnight I find myself squeezing in emergency shopping trips as the blouse that fit last week is suddenly too short and the shoes that fit yesterday are suddenly too tight....

One more word or two about tonight's IDOL. I really don't know what the best way is of telling the one person eliminated that he or she won't be going through to the final sing-off, but this ISN'T IT. Sloppy, thoughtless, almost ungrateful after all the hard work a person has put in to get this far.

I am not sure GREY'S will ever be able to match what it did in season 2. Every episode is a treasure (I've watched each one at least a half dozen or more times) and memorable.

Like all soap opera-styled dramas, there's only so many pairings the cast can go through with each other before things start to get icky and almost incestuous. That's what happening for me now. I still love the show, but it doesn't have that feeling of astonishment for me with each new episode.

Ever since I went shopping for that new bathing suit I have been vowing I would lose weight, eat right, walk every day...

so far I have been taken out for 2 mothers day meals, a night at California Pizza and succumbed to the charms of a NEW!!! iced Orange mocha thingie at Starbucks

the unworn bathing suit is probably too small already... the Vixter is not the only one growing overnight, the only difference is she gets taller , I get wider

In a social framework where guns are a way of life, such a gift is no stanger than a place set of sterling for the hope chest of a Bostonian year old grand-daughter.
