Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland 117, and now it is time for you to post until the 117 cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  certainly not the "best," but consistently good were the Polish dogs at the Costco deli until they got rid of them. ::)

I like the regular hot dogs in their deli, but they haven't brought back the onions, so they're not as good as they could be. ;)

And now, I'm off to bed.  I have to stay home from work, but I need to get up at a semi-normal time to make some phone calls.

Have a good day, all!

I shall be on the telephone a little later in the morning to discuss my CPAP issues with the VA office that handles such things.  Am hopeful they'll give me the go-ahead to drive down and get some hands-on instruction on the proper way to use a full mask.  That would include getting proper hose fittings for the mask I have, but have never used.

I love a really good Chicago dog with all the celery salt, relish, sport pepper and everything piled high on top of a Vienna beef dog. We had a hole-in-the-wall place downtown where the owner treated each dog like a chef handling foie gras.

In my hometown there used to be a wonderful restaurant, The Liberty, at 1212 Central Avenue. It's now now long gone, but they had the best hot dogs ever. For a treat, when we were growing up, my mother would call an order -after asking each of us, how many do you think you can eat? - and my dad would drive into town and pick it up. When I was living in Middletown in the 1970s, I would simply park in the lot behind the restaurant, run and and buy a few for lunch or dinner. God, they were good!

I can enjoy a good hot dog in any number of styles. As for the very best ones I remember having...

Certainly, a Chicago dog. There are so many mom & pop places scattered around the area, a.k.a. Chicagoland, that it's impossible to know them all and to choose. My memories of favorite ones in my time there include the place just down the road from my apartment complex (looks like it's still there). I'd take two home, with fries (Chicago dogs are traditionally accompanied by french fries, just another of the great things about the place) a couple of nights a week. Other places, too, of course, and they all make them just slightly different, and they are all so delicious.

Chili dog with onions at the original Nathan's in Coney Island. Theirs are good even at their damned mall stores, but there is nothing like eating them hot off the grill at the stand-up counter while taking in the sights and the sea air. Nothing, I tell you.

I know I've had a few standout chili-cheese-onion dogs, but couldn't say where. I might have had them at my favorite L.A. places like Hamburger Hamlet or Ship's Galley coffee shops. Normally at such places I'd always have the burgers, but I'd make an exception now and then.

That looks and sounds like a wonderful place. I have several such places from my childhood in Columbus and Fort Lauderdale, and from college years in Cleveland. Heartbreaking that they've all been gone for decades.

I have yet to try a hot dog (or "Coney") at the Cincinnati chili places, and I will make a point of doing so next time.

In the meantime, I have now more or less perfected GREAT chili-cheese-onion dogs at home -- and in so doing, I've probably managed to eat more of them in the last couple of years than in all the years prior. Oy!

We got about a quarter-inch of that white sh-- last night, and thankfully it was one of those that we successfully blew off with the leaf blower first thing this morning. That may sound laughable, but no plow or snowblower would be able to pick it up, and if anyone had driven over it first, those tracks would be a thin but solid stretch of ice for days to come.

It might happen again tonight, and we are READY FOR IT.

Yes, I used to stop in there occasionally and it was always good. They might still have it, but I've hardly been in there during the past two years and they've considerably redesigned the food court so I'll have to check.

They did lose the Panda Express, causing me no end of distress. :)  I had literally just "discovered" it and enjoyed one (1) whole meal there, just before the pandemic hit!

Two very good things:

1) My contact at the VA is ordering me a new mask and associated fittings/hoses to go on my CPAP.  By giving him my CPAP's serial number and device number, he was able to check all my settings remotely and make adjustments.

2)  My sinuses have miraculously cleared and remained clear for the past hour or so.  I cannot explain it except to say that I have changed my seating position in my den to be as far away from the HVAC register as possible.  My instincts tell me that is a key thing.

Ah, me.

I met him a couple of times, a very nice man. He played Henry Higgins in the 1990(?) Houston Grand Opera's My Fair Lady. He was wonderful. When I was workiong at Barnes & Noble, one of my co-workers, a very stupid boy, asked him why he broke up with Whoopi Goldberg, and he snapped "None of your busdiness" and only talked to me.

It must be a wonderful thing to have your life revolve around music and theater.  I always enjoyed my times, in the remote past, doing musical theater, but I cannot imagine how rewarding it must be to produce shows with talented singers/musicians on a regular basis.

Casablanca was in theaters over the weekend for its 80th anniversary. I have seen it on the big screen. Once. It would be nice to see it that way again.

I would like to see it on the big screen.

DR George how are you feeling today?
Title: Re: KRITZERLAND AT VITELLO'S 117
Post by: Jane on January 24, 2022, 12:40:36 PM
Two very good things:

1) My contact at the VA is ordering me a new mask and associated fittings/hoses to go on my CPAP.  By giving him my CPAP's serial number and device number, he was able to check all my settings remotely and make adjustments.

2)  My sinuses have miraculously cleared and remained clear for the past hour or so.  I cannot explain it except to say that I have changed my seating position in my den to be as far away from the HVAC register as possible.  My instincts tell me that is a key thing.

Ah, me.

All very good news.

When I was very very young.....our local drugstore - Rexall - had a lunch counter.  And the hot dogs were in a case stuck on spokes that went around as the cooked.

I always enjoyed having a hot dog there.....with mustard.

Had a Chinese chicken salad from Stanley's for food, picked up one package, proofed a bit. I managed to go a bit over two weeks without a battery problem, which is a record these days, but I knew when I locked it last night that it would probably be dead this morning. When I pressed the lock button on the fob, nothing happened, twice - then it worked. What I should have done is start the car again and let it run a bit, then lock it. If it doesn't beep on the first try, that's what has to be done. So, had to charge it before going out. It's fine now.

The day went rather well, considering it started rather badly, sinuses-wise.

They stayed clear for about five hours, but once the evening arrived, the congestion returned.   Not as severely as before, however,

I do believe time-of-day impacts such things.  Any time I have been under the weather, the evenings are always the worst time of day for my symptoms.

Don’t be silly, Chas, there is no “h” in snow!

My favorite hot dog memories are mostly at a Nathan’s.  I never made it to Coney Island, but there was a great Nathan’s a block east of Time Square, probably on 43rd or maybe 44th.
