Title: HI-YO SILVER!

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were jumbled up, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently saying Kemosabe a lot.

I saved my screen-capture as a .png.  On my computer, when I save screen images as .jpg, they're much more distorted and pixelated.  I just found out that .pngs can be uploaded to and linked from Photobucket.  Good to know. :D

Good morning, al! The alarm went off at 6:01 and here I am.  I will be E&T most of the day since I'm heading out to Long Island for this Daniel rodriguez band rehearsal. I hope the Long Island Railroad is not jammed this morning with folk heading out to the Hamptons to escape the heatwave.  My last trip on theline was godawful: no air conditioning, rickety cars. Oy!

I want to leave here around 7:30. The line for tickets could be dreadful at the station and I believe the train's at 8:30. I'm waiting for my friends to call me about when and where to meet at Penn Station.

I guess DR tomovoz's vast time difference sent us into birthday greeting for ozDerek a bit early. He was a good man who deserved none of the health complications life threw at him. I send vibes to his family and to DR tomovoz, who brought ozDerek to HHW, kept us informed of his health crises, inherited his bears, and misses him enormously.

I too loved THE LONE RANGER when I was little, and ran to see the movies when they were released...I particularly remember ....AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD....  And that the uniform of the Lone Ranger was BLUE!!!!

John Hart played TLR for one season, but then Clayton was back.  What a terrific voice!  And of course Jay Silverheels was a perfect Tonto.

The first show I remember ALWAYS watching was "I Love Lucy" which was on in the middle of the night at 9 p.m......my parents would put us to bed and then because I insisted, they would get me up to watch "Lucy" while my brother slept.

I also never missed "The Mickey Mouse Club" and "Rocky Jones, Space Ranger"....and "Winky Dink" and "Paul Winchell & Friends."

Quote from BK re THE LONE RANGER: "I also watched the extras, which included a very long and rather ineptly shot and edited interview with Mr. Michael Ansara, conducted by his former publicist, our very own Druxy. During the first six minutes I thought our very own Druxy would never shut up, but finally Mr. Ansara began to speak and he was very interesting and it was very enjoyable."

TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT: The reason why "during the first six minutes Druxy would never shut up" is because the producer of this interview instructed him to provide a lengthy, detailed Introduction for his friend, Michael Ansara, which was supposed to have been edited as a "stand alone" piece to be seen BEFORE Michael ever spoke.

Unfortunately, the unknown person who did, in fact, edit the interview was not given those instructions...which is why the piece looks so shoddy.

Saturday morning greetings!  We have a quiet day and, I think, plans to meet my family for a dinner out somewhere.  Waiting to hear particulars from my sister.

The very first show that I ever saw on TV was, in fact, the very first episode of THE LONE RANGER.

I always watched that show, a well as SUPERMAN, HIGHWAY PATROL, HOPALONG CASSIDY, ROY ROGERS and HOWDY DOODY.

Back when I was a kid in Seattle, there was only 1 television station (Channel 5) for quite awhile, so viewing choices were limited.

At times, I think we even watched the test pattern.

TOD - My answer has to be The Mickey Mouse Club, not so much because I remember it, but because of a story my mom tells about how our family got its first TV.  My dad swore there'd never be one in our home, but one day he came home from work and said to my mom, "Where are the girls?"  My sister was at one neighbor's watching American Bandstand and I was at another neighbor's watching The Mickey Mouse Club.  So, Dad decided if he was going to find his daughters at home, he'd let us have a TV.

Guess who became the biggest TV-watcher in the family?

What a great story! And so true! For those who grew up strictly on radio (like my grandmother), it was like pulling teeth to get her to buy a television. Once she had it, of course, you couldn't pull her away from it. One of my strongest memories is of her sitting there watching QUEEN FOR A DAY and sobbing into a handkerchief listening to all those tales of woe.

I was up this morning at 7:30 and outside mowing my backyard. It's probably my least favorite thing in the world to do. Maybe if the rain holds off for awhile, I won't have to do it many more times this summer.

But, of course, we NEED the rain. So it's a catch 22.

The first show I have a conscious memory of is HOWDY DOODY, but I certainly watched all of the shows mentioned here by those of my generation: SUPERMAN, LONE RANGER, WILD BILL HICKOK, MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, PINKY LEE, WINKY DINK (which I adored; must have sent away for three or four of the drawing kits during the run of the show), CISCO KID.

DR Jennifer I have never heard of the Barenaked Ladies because my children no longer live at home.  Without them to keep me up to date I tend to listen to classical and 40’s music.

DR Cilla, thanks for the links, and a song named for me.

They certainly weren’t what a expected from a group called Barenaked Ladies. ;D

DR George, your bathroom versions were fun.

BLUEGRASS ONE WEEK might be my favorite.

You should have sued. :)  I'm always shocked by how some of these early featurettes are done by such absolute amateurs - they're not much better now - now they're done by people who have pretenses to art.  But in this one, they keep the camera on one person for what seem like minutes while the OTHER person is talking.  They cut to a wider shot in which the people's mouths are clearly saying something other than what they're saying on the soundtrack.  I'm sure they had one camera and that's the reason, but there's no excuse for actually doing it.  Mr. Ansara is charming, though, and Druxy interviews him well and draws him out, but it's almost unwatchable.

JMK, I think I would be tempted to tell him that you'll miss him and it's too bad he has to withdraw from the show because dress rehearsal is mandatory.

Unfortunately the way I've been instructed to write this show means that all the characters interact with each other and that would leave a big gaping hole in the proceedings.

Good Afternoon!

Greetings, once again, from the Cove Cafe on Deck 9 of the Disney Wonder!

*And while I was on the beach this morning, I had a nice conversation with one of the "higher-ups" from Disney's Talent Casting division.  He made a few "suggestions" to me, which I may investigate further.  :)

Really?  I've never heard her sing.  I figured the voice was too good to actually be her!  But if you say so, I'm gonna have to go with it being her own.

I'm guessing Keaton's was her own, as well.  It "sounded" like her voice, only it was projected and on pitch.

Midler's voice seemed to come right out of her mouth, but Hawn's seemed somewhat detached.

Well...  At least week's Larry Grossman revue/concert at The York, they featured this song:

The Other Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08QkIZlQ8w4)

*And I actually remember watching that TV special when it was first broadcast!

Diane Keaton is/was a very good singer. She sings in ANNIE HALL and RADIO DAYS, very well in both. Of course, she did stage musicals (HAIR) early in her career, so I know she can sing.

Yes, I think it might have been wise to either rethink the cast of the MAMMA MIA men (none is exactly a box-office draw, so they could have used stage actors who could sing like Tom Wopat, Brent Barrett, Marc Kudisch), or hire dubbers if they were set of three men to be the actors who were cast.

Well... Even for the Broadway and touring versions of Mamma Mia!, the singing ability of the three possible fathers is usually taken into consideration after they have read for the part.  Consequently(?), what ends up happening is that you end up with three possible fathers with decent, pleasant voices, or a trio of amazing(!) singers.  It's all kept in balance with Donna and her Dynamos.  The women are the true stars of the show. :)

I have never bought this one meal a day and your metabolism slows down because it things you're starving business.  I may eat one nice-sized meal a day, but I'm not starving, and I do have things like no-fat low-cal fruit popsicles later in the evening.  And it's not like I didn't do this exact same regimen two years ago and I know exactly what I lost per week during that diet period.  This is extremely frustrating.  I'm going to keep running because I feel better for having jogged, but I'm not sure I can keep up this staying away from certain foods that I like if I'm not going to see results - that's just too annoying.  This last two weeks has been a total waste for me, diet-wise.  No, I didn't gain, but losing at the rate of a pound and a half every two weeks means I'll be on this diet for over a year before I'm where I want to be - it's never ever taken me more than three to four months to lose exactly what I wanted to lose and that includes two years ago.

bk - How are your clothes fitting? If they are feeling looser, then trust that.  You are most likely putting on muscle weight due to all the jogging you have been doing - and the muscles in your legs are the "bulkiest" ones in your body.

*And the reason you could not be feeling hungry could be due to the fact that your body does feel like it is starving, so it is holding onto the stored calories longer for "survival".

**On the cruise right now, I've been eating three meals a day, plus two snacks each day, and I can tell I have not put on any weight.  -I'm also limiting myself to one dessert a day, and foregoing the bread with my meals.  In fact, that's what I've been doing for the past four weeks, and I've dropped seven pounds.

***What time of day are you weighing yourself?  The "experts" say to weigh yourself in the evening for a truer gauge of your weight.  However, since you're usually your lightest in the morning, go right to the scale as soon as you get out of bed, and check it then.

BK - did you have to forego the TV pilot?

The producers were really great and pushed all my scenes to the last four days.  I was better by then, but I'd had a really horrible case (what happens when you're thirty) and the scabs were horrendous.  They brought me in and one of the Westmores tried his hardest to cover them with makeup, but it just didn't work.  So, reluctantly they had to replace me with a guy named Dick Blasucci (who later became an Emmy-winning writer) - he was too manic in the role and had 0 chemistry with the lead (Michael Burns) and the pilot went nowhere.  They did pay me, which was really gracious of them.  And for years thereafter whenever it was shown on TV (it was a pilot in the guise of a TV movie) I was listed as the second lead.  I truly believe it would have sold had I been in it, because Burns and I had already worked together twice and we had great chemistry.

I also got chicken pox as an adult, though I think I was about 20.  My girlfriend at the time worked at a child care agency and was immune but "carried" it home to little ol' moi.  It was horrible.  I still have some scars up by my hairline.

Unfortunately the way I've been instructed to write this show means that all the characters interact with each other and that would leave a big gaping hole in the proceedings.

Oh. I guess I was thinking it was like a concert or something.

David Gerber was the producer, and the director was the lovely Hy Averback.

Mr. Averback was once a publicity client of mine.  He was directing a Peter Sellers movie at the time, I LOVE YOU, ALICE B. TOKLAS, which was a big hit.

Unfortunately, he followed it with a real turkey, THE GREAT BANK ROBBERY.  The only good thing that I remember about that one is that it gave me the opportunity to meet Zero Mostel.

Hy was a nice man.

I had chicken pox and age 7. I had all of the usual childhood diseases in early childhood, so I guess I was fortunate in that regard.

Chicken pox was THE WORST. I don't remember measles (which I had the year after) as being nearly as misery-making as chicken pox.

I won a Wham-O Shoop Shoop Hula Hoop at a Wallace and Ladmo kiddie matinee.  It was a regular hoop with beans or ball bearings inside to make a "Shoop Shoop" noise.  But I never got a Ladmo bag either.

The movie that day, was "The Time Machine."

My eyes are burning and my head is throbbing.

I don't get why family members who know i am allergic to perfume/cologne would pour it on around me.

I want to scream. I used visine. And my eyes are a bit better.

But all of a sudden my eyes started burning. And i'm like "what is that?". And the person did not even say sorry.

I think they do not believe how much my eyes/head are hurting! :(

(although not enough to stop typing = but i had to get out of the room!).

I have never heard about pedialyte.

And i don't have gatoraid.

I should have taken a shower. But i was wearing sandals and got a blister under my big toe. So i ended up just soaking my feet, putting a cold towel around my neck, washing my face, and drinking 1 1/2 bottles of water.

I know how you feel.

You would expect them to be more considerate of you.  Suggest they try putting a dab of perfume under their nose, where they can smell it and hopefully it won't be too strong to bother you.

I was on a flight once, trying to not get my usual motion sickness, with a flight attendants wearing a very strong perfume.  Every time she walked by....I'm sure you know.  You can bet I called and complained to the airline that flight attendants should not be permitted to wear perfume.  Maybe my call worked because I have never experienced that again.  ;)

I also begin our gruelling three days (yes you read that right) of rehearsals for this crazy revue I'm not only music directing, but also writing and directing.  Oy.  One of my "problem children" let me know yesterday that dress rehearsal was suddenly a problem (though it's been scheduled for months) because he wants to get in a full eight hour work day.  Why did he accept the gig then?  Not a rhetorical question.  :)
If he doesn't want to be committed to the revue, he should not have signed up in my opinion, if anyone wants it.  :)

I am back from Long Island, badly sunburned on my legs, and crabby. The band was not very good, the rehearsal was plagued by a rehearsal at 2 pm on a stage with little covering, so I am sure the brass and reeds will be badly burned tomorrow. The string players claimed they were told by the contractor they would be on a covered platform - LIE! - so most of them refused to play which also the sound. Bewcause of the string revolt we began 20-30 minutes late abd because the band was second-rate, it went slowly and not everything was rehearsed. Oy!

I sat out in the audience with sunscreen on my head and neck but I didn't do my legs. I think the audience will enjoy themselves tonight, but it should have been less of an ordeal thatn it was today.

I got through the rest of the TRANSFORMERS set, and I was glad to be done with it. Kiddie stuff is OK in short doses, but the repetitive nature of the shows and my having to do so many crammed into three days made this truly an ordeal to be endured. Even the lamest movie (and I've had to suffer through some lame ones in the past year including WILDERNESS comedy with Steve Zahn and DRILLBIT TAYLOR with Owen Wilson) is over in a couple of hours. This took far too long to get through, and I felt like I had to watch every episode to make sure there were no defects in the transfers, etc.

I wasn't very taken with CANNON when I reviewed it a month or so ago. I never watched it during its five years on TV, so I came into it with an open mind. Just didn't find it all that engaging.

I watched the last half of the BURN NOTICE Season One finale and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had forgotten a lot about the first season's episodes, so nice to feel up to date with it.

I attempted to watch last night's MONK episode, but for some reason, the DVR stopped recording after 30 minutes. (I think the DVR reset itself for some reason; maybe some sort of transmission from the cable company.) Anyway, I set it to re-record the show tomorrow night which was the next time that episode airs.

It was OK though I was getting thoroughly put out with Brad Garrett's character in the episode.

So, I watched the first half of Thursday night's FEAR ITSELF. The story is intriguing enough for me to finish it tomorrow, but oh boy are the characters (particularly the leading lady) nitwits in the show.

So, this will leave me with THE MOLE and the last half of FEAR ITSELF on the DVR. I will be watching HIGH AND LOW tomorrow, and since it's such a long movie, looks like it will take up a large portion of the day since there is a commentary on the first disc in the set, too.

My childhood was more "Radio".

I remember radio.

I used to listen to CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT, THE WHISTLER, INNER SANCTUM and, on Sunday's, our family sat around the big floor radio in the living room and listened to Jack Benny, Alice Faye/Phil Harris and Fred Allen.

Tell him to call in sick!  Not to brag, but I have almost 1200 hours of sick leave. :D Every once in a while, you just gotta do what you gotta do. ;)
