My eye is looking great.  It is the rest of me that needs work.

I am glad Miss Vixter's foot is ok. I've had the red streaks thing.

I don;t think I qualify as an overanxious mom, but HOUSE just had a show where the teenage daughter came in for  a sport injury and turned out to have bone cancer and was losing the leg - stupid overactive imagination decided to kick in at bedtime!!

;D Bad timing to have watched that particular episode.

I've had red streaks too, usually before I went to the doctor for antibiotics.

It's been a nice day so far.  I went to Amoeba to kill time until she of the Evil Eye was done.  Just looked around.  Then I came home and had a visitor and a friend of the visitor - the friend ended up buying two CDs (Evening Primrose and New Guy In Town) and two books, the new Hofstetter and Rewind, which he, unlike many on this here site, was most anxious to read, since he finds fiction of that sort very interesting, if you get my meaning.

Hopefully Mr. Pearl will get here on time and we can be on the road by four.  Apparently, there's a mall very close to where we're seeing the reading, and at said mall there is a P.F. Chang's and a Cheesecake Factory.  However, since we won't be getting there until between five-thirty and six (depending on traffic), those places will be too crowded.  Then there's supposed to be a few other restaurants if one turns the opposite way from the theater - I think those are the ones we'll check out.

I must say that the Cheesecake Factory and Claim Jumper are the least diet-friendly restaurants of any I've been in.

Hmm... I'm walking around midtown... And my left knee keeps twinging... This actually started on Thursday, but I thought it would just go away eventually... It doesn't really hurt... It just sort of feels like it's going to give every now and then, and walking down stairs takes a little "thinking".

I may just head home in a few and give it a rest for the rest of the evening. Hmm... ??? :-\  ???

As is so common these days, we have a salad bar at the store.  It's a good thing we're a supermarket, and not a tire store - the combination of lettuce and veggies and the smell of rubber just does not mix.

Do you mean the kind of salad bar you'd find at a restaurant?

Is that common in the US? I've never seen a grocery store with a salad bar.

But also DR Ginny's mention of a garbage disposal made me wonder if they are common in other parts of canada. Because i've never seen one here.

I'm curious does the RENT movie cost $22 everywhere?  That might not make anyone want to go with me. :(

You have never seen a garbage disposal?

Salad bars in grocery stores used to be very popular on the West Coast, but they have all but disappeared from stores in this area.  I can think of only one store locally that still has one; but it would probably be cheaper to go to an expensive restaurant for dinner, than to stock up on salad at this salad bar.

I think i saw a garbage disposal when i visited some friends in the US. But we don't have those here (i'm serious).

We have grocery stores here that have prepared food behind a counter (that look like what you might see at a deli). You can buy things like macaroni salad. Or chicken dishes. But i would not consider this a salad bar. Is this similar to what you mean? Or are you talking a real salad bar where you have a bowl of lettuce and stuff.

Absolutely scruptuous day outside. Sadly, I have spent most of it inside, though I did mow the grass this morning, and sat on the porch for a little bit while my lunch was cooking.

I watched another episode of THE OFFICE while I was eating lunch. It was the episode where the Scranton branch is trying to come up with their own paper company commercial. Very enjoyable episode.

I spent the rest of the afternoon on the GODFATHER bonus features. Glad to be done with it. Now, I must hop off-line and write them up.

I think Vixmom should screen today's posts (or were those from last night) before the Vixter reads them.

Oh, you meant reading a certain book. ;D

DR Jennifer - most of the larger supermarkets in our area have very elaborate salad bars.  Great for a healthy meal on the run!

A fellow label owner came to pick up a few more Scent Of Mystery CDs, and he brought me the new El Cid re-recording, which is supposed to be terrific, so as soon as disc three of the Shaft box is finished I shall play it.  I must also get ready for the trek to San Juan Capistrano.  Excellent vibes and xylophones for easy traffic, please.

DR Jennifer, I believe we have two markets here with salad bars; one the all natural co-op, and at the Market of Choice, a small chain of store located in Oregon.  I’ve seen other salad bars in markets around the country.  There were all rather much like a salad bar at a restaurant, including soup on the side.  The salad bars here have a large variety of fixings.  The deli counters we have sound basically like yours.

When we moved from Southern California to New Jersey we were startled to find no one had garbage disposals.  It was also our first experience with a septic tank.  Do you have a septic tank?  The second home we had with a septic did have a garbage disposal but we were told to use it sparingly.  Our current home has a septic, and a disposal we use all the time.  Our other 6 homes all had garbage disposals as well as our apartments and our small, one bedroom, rental home.

DR Jennifer - I remember "fix it youself salad bars" popping up in Safeway stores when I was about ten years old. -Wow! That's thirty years ago?!?! It certainly was quite the novelty when they started appearing in supermarkets, and was usually a cause for some expressions of disbelief once we got to the register since they were priced by the pound. -"You bought how much salad?!?!?!". -And then when the hot food bars started popping up...

Here in NYC, salad and hot food bars in stores are more the norm than the exception. It just depends on the size of the store. The Whole Foods/Fresh Fields/Wild Oats stores usually have multiple bars: basic salad fixings, premade salads, international selections (Indian, Asian, etc.), desserts. And those are alongside the sushi, grilled items, pizza and home-cooked stations.  Some stores even have a Pommes Frites bar, a cooked to order Seafood counter, and an in-store smoker for BBQ'd selections. In other words: Yes, we have salad bars.
