I'm not sure when i will see the SEX & THE CITY movie. I wanted to go tomorrow. But my sister does not want to be with the huge crowds. But she can't go next weekend. So we shall see.

Enough Brain surgery for today. I will most likely watch a bit of tv, but i have yet to decide what I will watch. I've got these three Netflix movies. Last night, after the final episode of THE TUDORS, I watched a bit of a recently acquired DVD of the City Opera's broadcast of Britten's PAUL BUNYAN, a dreadful broadcast of one of the most beautiful productions I ever saw in a theatre. Even with the irritating camera work, the piece still moved me tremendously. I also watched a bit of the film version of Hans Werner Henze's opera THE YOUNG LORD, but the music's very stringent and an acquired taste.

I'm back from the book fair and some dinner.  Haven't heard from Mr. Geissman yet, so doubtful we'll be working tonight.  Which means I have to decide right now whether to to the journey to see The Brain - otherwise, it's tomorrow matinee.

This Pasadena book fair should give up the ghost.  Not enough dealers, hardly anyone there (which is why the top dealers have bailed), but I spent two hours there looking around and talking to dealers I know.

I'm in the last two chapters of the book, proofing-wise, still finding little things here and there, but thankfully no whoppers.

Just finished Animation Show Volume 3 and was for the most part blown away.  Some incredibly inventive stuff here, and some flat out hilarious little features.

I have spent a late afternoon in Cillaliz Land - life in a tornado watch box! No twister, but wow, did we get a thunder storm! Fornutatelt, the dogs have no problem napping through thunderous roars.

Here's hoping the streets are clear so I can go get Woody.

Gabe's friend Max's mother called today to say that every year their family invites friends of their kids along on their family vacation, and that they would like Gabe to come with them (all expenses paid) to Hawai'i!!  I heard DS Betsy say, "If I learn to play the XBox 360 games, can I be Max's friend?"  :)

I agree. There were only two I didn't feel quite worked, but several that were just awesome, and all original and worth repeated viewings.

As I was saying to DR JMK, I did spend a great part of the evening with THE ANIMATION SHOW, Volume 3, a collection of short animated films from around the world. Some delightful, innovative, and original animated shorts.

I also watched all of the bonus features which included video interviews with three of the featured animators and a very interesting split-screen view of one of the features showing the animatics and storyboards for the short.

With the 80 minutes I had left in the evening, I watched KNOCKED UP, at least the first part of it. I'll have to finish it tomorrow. Some funny lines from the guys who were given almost all of the comedy for some reason (well they wrote it, so I guess it makes sense they'd throw much of the good material to themselves).

I didn't realize Paul Rudd was in this.

ONE, TWO, THREE turned out to be a very funny movie...sort of in the IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD vein.

Now for some dinner and then this movie JALTA BADAN (1973) ...I have no clue what it is about but it stars Kum Kum (who I adore) and Kiran Kumar

TOD: My best cure for headaches is to have rain. Until then, I have a strong cup of Starbucks coffee and an ibuprofen and sometimes a heating pad or an ice pack. But mostly, it's the rain that makes it go away. It might be three days before it gets better.

Backache: lie on the floor for a while. Then when it gets better, go buy new sneakers.

So I'm watching that cinematic curio, SCREAMING MIMI, a rather bland incarnation of Fredric Brown's quirky mystery, and I'm immediately struck by the opening score (and later, the closing score).  I immediately know I've heard it before and that Columbia has recycled it for this low-budget epic.  I start to search my Columbia films book when it suddenly hits me -- it's the score from ON THE WATERFRONT.

Well, you could always make a free-form tart or a crostata.  -Unless you were planning on making something with a custard-like filling.

*Or you could just make a square pie in an 8x8 pan.

I ended up not going to the memorial service for Richard...it was just to close time-wise, to the wedding, which was an hour north. So I cleaned house, shopped for a wedding present and made myself presentable for the wedding of the step-daughter of Greg's brother. It was a very traditional, predictable wedding. Actually, it was very much like when the bride's mother married Greg's brother last year!
