Well, thank you, Jane. You just need to take your camera when you hike.

I take mine to restaurants. You don't see many butterflies in those.

Watching "The World According to Garp" for the first time since I saw the movie the theater upon initial release. Time has been kind to the movie and I'm glad the book is no longer quite so fresh in my mind. It's also fun seeing John Lithgow in his first screen appearance since I've started watching Dexter Season 4 on DVD and he's great in both.

I've been watching DEXTER (4) this week, too.

Lithgow is creepy.

Good Evening!

Thanks for all the Vibes for my father and for myself. I will say that it does seem that he's truly taking it easy after this most recent surgery. -Unlike when, after just four weeks after his prostate cancer surgery, he was climbing on the roof clearing out the storm gutters.  Even my mom has started driving again to run errands and such. -Which is a good thing.

In other news, I had quite a wonderful day here in Richmond. A visit to my alma mater. Another wonderful visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. -Their current Chuck Close exhibit truly blew my mind! I spent over an hour in there. And then I had dinner with Steve, and while we were having dinner, my friend, Mike, dropped by to say, "Hi!" too.

It's really hard to take a good photo of the tile, not sure why.  It is glass, maybe it's just hard to photograph

Try to get as much "natural" light in the room as possible and/or spill from the neighboring rooms. It's best to take the picture with no flash. Otherwise, the glass will just reflect the flash.

I've been trying to send a simple e-mail reply through the mac mail program and it's been "sending" for ten damn minutes.  One more minute and Apple will be getting a call from me.

Was your outgoing SMTP not set up properly?

Is it common now to announce your engagement via facebook?

It's sort of common. However, most people I know make sure that their family and close friends are informed in person before it's posted out there for everyone else to see.

BK,

Since I don't read the Los Angeles papers any longer:

Who are the cast members for THE GLASS MENAGERIE at the Mark Taper?

I'm not Bruce but I know the answer.

It's the Judith Ivey production that started at Long Wharf in Connecticut then played Off-Broadway as part of Roundabout's season and has now moved to Los Angeles to play at the Mark Taper Forum.

Glass Menagerie

I didn't see this production, but I love the play, and I hear it isn't particularly done well.

It's a beautiful production.  It may be a little too naturalistic for some people, but I was moved by it.

In addition to my chicken breast and wing (and then leg), I had some chopped liver on a matzo - just to feel a little Jewish.

I wouldn't be surprised.  This morning on received a bulk Facebook email from my niece announcing her engagement. :)  She did apologize for her method of delivery.

My cousin posted his engagement on facebook yesterday.  I personally was okay with it (they told their parents first). But my parents were not that happy. My mom doesn't even read facebook.  My dad could not believe that I had to tell him I read it on facebook vs his brother (father of the groom) calling to announce it.

So, i wrote her back and told her it meant a lot of shuffling singers and I was loathe to start tearing apart a schedule that had been in place for four months before soncuslting with the music director, the record producer, and the investor. Now I've gotten two emails with an attitude of "Mother's pissed, let's placate" and she says she's only asking about possible rescheduling if possible. The question is, is she pulling a diva fit?

Well...

Is she going to be homebound for the next six weeks? Just ask her if that's the case. If so, then find another singer. If not, then hold her to the original recording date. I'm sure she'll find a way to make it to the studio. Crutches, wheelchair, friend, assistant, etc., in tow.

I'll be interested to see how the progressive lens works - there is quite a big difference in my close and far sight, so I'm hoping it's fine.
Walking through a bookstore can be a problem. All that type going by can be disorienting.

Why I like using the computer to put books on hold at the library, no more trying to read the titles.

Speaking of putting books on hold at the library, in 2 weeks my library is finally going to be completely computerized.

I just really hope that they keep some of the great features they have now. I like to know what place I am to receive books (my sister's library doesn't do this). And I hope that there is not a small limit on how many books I can be waiting for. My sister can take out unlimited books. But she can only reserve 6 (meaning she can only be waiting for 6 books).

I will be happy to be able to renew, and request books at home.

It's also fun seeing John Lithgow in his first screen appearance since I've started watching Dexter Season 4 on DVD and he's great in both.

But fantastic. I can't wait until the new season starts!

I get that it's a fast way to let a lot of people know.  But not everyone has a facebook page. And not everyone who has one checks it everyday.

I believe that Obsession, All That Jazz and Blow Out came before Garp. I think there are others but i'm not familiar with them

For your Gardenia show have you considered doing a concert version of Drat! The Cat?
