Title: A PUZZLEMENT
Post by: bk on March 02, 2008, 12:18:14 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a puzzlment and lacked power in one zone, and now it is time for you to post until the puzzled cows come home.

And this was just the TIP of the iceberg.  8)

Frank Woolf who played Praxamides had a rather tragic life, which I didn't even know about until reading about him on IMDB last night.  He was probably the best actor in the movie.  8)

Sunday morning greetings!  For the second week in a row, I've been excused from church in Cincinnati - this time due to illness.  My head is still stuffy and I'm sneezing and coughing.  Enough!

Think I'm gonna make myself some French toast for breakfast and then take a nice steamy shower - maybe that will clear my head.

I was going to renew by license plate online today.  The website address on the form didn't work, so I got there by searching.

The link came up - I clicked and the message I got was:

"The Renewal Site is down.  Please try again later.
We appologize for any inconvenience."

I guess I will accept their appology.

When callers are put on hold at my workplace, they get listen to a lot of PR announcements for the library.  One of them talks up the fact that "we have one branch that's always open - our website!"  Well, that branch has been CLOSED now since Wednesday.  Ah, the IT geniuses are hard at work, as always.

Quote from: Jane YesterdayI have asked before, many times  and no one else seems to have the problem I do.  I can no longer highlight the words and click on an action.  I have to cut and paste said action around the words.  Sometimes I miss, and I don't always see what portion I missed when I did the cut and paste.....Does that make sense??

I'm trying to remember to click on the action first & then type in between it, instead of doing a cut and paste after the fact.   That was easier.

Jane, do you use Firefox as your browser? If you do, that could be the cause of the problem. I use both Firefox and IE and when I'm in Firefox I have that same problem. I don't know why that happens because the rest of the site displays withouth problem. Using the actions in the Post Reply box causes problems. If I  want to reply and do something within the reply I always use IE.

If you're having this problem while using Internet Explorer as your browser then I'm at a loss to explain the source of the trouble.

Good morning!  It was very nice to wake up to a bright room!  Between replacing two of the shades with blinds and putting up the window film and removing curtain it was bright and cheery....then the clouds rolled in and it became gray outside, but that will make it easier for me to go to the office and get work done

I watched the remainder of Part I of ELIZABETH I while I cooked and ate lunch. Always enjoy the various versions of ELizabeth I's life. I still prefer Glenda Jackson's miniseries to any of the various filmed versions of parts of her story. I haven't seen ELIZABETH : THE GOLDEN AGE yet, but it didn't get great reviews so I'm not optimistic that it will supersede Glenda's six efforts.

Next, I watched the first of the Lubitsch musicals: THE LOVE PARADE.

This film was released in 1929. When I think of 1929 musicals, I naturally think of that year's Oscar winner THE BROADWAY MELODY along with the Marx Bros. in THE COCOANUTS, and RKO's RIO RITA.

This film is MILES ahead of them in every way in terms of production values and presentation. Somehow Lubitsch found a way to work around that massive camera in a booth that made those other films so static. This movie movies vertically and horizontally and has tremendous depth of field in the photography, something alien to all of those other 1929 musicals.

With the name of the Queen of Sylvania being Louise, you'd think Chevalier's trademark "Louise" came from this movie, but it doesn't. It's from INNOCENTS OF PARIS.

Next, I put in the Joan Crawford melodrama SADIE McKEE. I'd never seen this, so it was entertaining seeing the younger Joan playing the poor girl makes good and being the right age to get away with it. I only got about 70 minutes in, so I have about 25 minutes more of it to see.

ELIZABETH I?

Oh yes....WELL.........Sir Thomas Stanley my (12th) Great Grandfather was the first Earl of Derby, so named by Henry VII - who just happened to be the son of Sir Thomas' second wife.  Henry VII was the stepbrother then of my (11th) Great Grandfather - which makes him a step uncle of Henry the VIII, etc etc etc.

I am thinking about going over to visit my cousin the current 19th Earl of Derby....but it might be a lot like when the Clampetts visited their English cousins....

This regular visitor has a much more beautiful voice than Patti. But then even the local wattlebirds have a less irritating screech.

This is a White Backed Magpie.  They have a tendency to swoop and attack people when they (the birds) are nesting and feel threatened.

Young, strong...oh, I was something in days gone by.

I always want to sing DAYS GONE BY, when BK quotes GOOD MORNING, GOOD DAY.  Since it has been about 15 years since I played Maraczek, I wanted to make sure I was quoting correctly.  Fortunately, I found a site online that proudly proclaimed to have all of the lyrics from the She Loves Me SOUNDTRACK.

At this point the Australian thing is merely an inquiry - this gal took a week to get back to me after the first time I answered her questions, and it's been four days since I answered her second set of questions.  So, we'll have to see.  I suspect it's an amateur group and depends on their money situation.

BK, how long before the show becomes available at R & H?  Is it possible for a theater company to arrange a production directly through you before the R&H contract takes effect?

Yes, if the Australian thing happens it will be through me.  I don't think the R&H thing will go into effect before summer - supposedly they're drawing up the agreement, but I haven't seen it.  elmore also has to finish his work on the cleanup.  Once that all happens, it will go pretty quickly.

I am finding Netflix Online movies a great way to watch episodes from TV series.  Usually if I put a series in my Q, by the time it shows up, I am no longer in the mood.

Today, I am watching episodes of Season 6 of MURDER SHE WROTE.  I just saw the first episode featuring Louis Herthum, who would eventually become a semi-regular as Deputy Andy Broom.  In this epsiode he is also playing a police officer - Deputy Kruger, and he is working for guest star Elliott Gould on th Palm Springs police force.

Good Evening!

I'm back from having dinner with a friend in The Village.  We ended up at some Thai place which usually has decent food and decent service, but tonight everything was just sort of passable.  -After being "forced" to order dessert, then finishing our desserts (green tea and adzuki bean ice cream), and having our plates cleared, we were asked not once, not twice, three(!) times... "Would you like to order dessert?"  -And two of those times were by our original waitress?!?!?!?

However, the conversation was sparkling, and the jazz duo playing tonight were quite good.

The church I sing at has a charity that feeds the homeless. There's a bake sale nearly every Sunday to raise money for it. This morning, when I bought a water from the cute little old lady who runs it, she said "Take some bread, it's free."
Apparently, even though they feed a lot of people, they get so much donated bread, it's hard to use it up before it goes bad. So sometimes they give it away to congregation members.
I asked the lady where it was & she directed me to 2 grocery carts full of bread & tortillas & such. I wasn't sure I would take anything, but then I saw these huge handmade Trader Joe's tortillas & I just thought, "Score!"
We made some really tasty burritos tonight. :)

THE COMEDIANS featuring Liz & Dick, Alec Guiness, Peter Ustinov, Lillian Gish, James Earl Jones, Paul Ford and Roscoe Lee Brown.
It is not a comedy.  Which is why I took breather at what I think is the halfway mark.

I went to a soup tasting party tonight. It was fun. There was a little wine and about 6 different soups with grilled french bread and desserts.  It was lots of fun and it was decided we should do this on an annual basis. There were about a dozen of us there. Good conversation and great fun

I LOVE him!!! Was always my favorite deputy on the show and very good looking, too. I wish he had been given more to do and had some storylines revolve around him.

I finished up SADIE McKEE, and it was a very satisfying conclusion. I can see why this was a big hit for Joan.

Next, I watched SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON. The print they screened was in abysmal shape with lots of marks and scratches. Gag!

The movie was about such a pathetic couple that it was hard to summon up anything but contempt for them. Some good tension in the direction until about 2/3 of the way through, and then things kind of fell apart.

Still, I'm glad I've seen it now after all these years of wondering what it was like.

Next, I decided to flip through the On-Demand free movies on my cable service, and on the TCM part of the On-Demand listings was AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. I was hoping this might be a preview of the new Ultra-Resolution transfer we're supposed to get later this year, but no such luck. It was that same flawed transfer they used on the DVD with purple reel change markers and lots of debris.

Still, I sat and watched the whole thing. I hadn't seen it in awhile, and I did enjoy it.

To close out the evening, I decided to revisit one of my favorite movies of the last few years: GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK. I hadn't seen it upconverted and on the "new" television, and it did indeed look superb. There are HD versions of the movie available (both Blu-ray and HD-DVD), but this looked so good that I think I'll just keep what I've got.

I doubt that the three Criterions and 101 DALMATIANS will get to me tomorrow even though they were sent Priority Mail, so I'll finish GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK and then watch MONTE CARLO tomorrow.

I got to spend very little time with my beautiful goddaughter Charlotte this visit, so I spent the last hour of her Manhattan trip with her and said goodbye to her when the car arrived to take her to the airport.

She's auditioning for summer theatre in three weeks, and here's one of her headshots taken this week.

I have no writing to do, so I'm going to head down now and get to bed early for a change.

Good night!

Back from lunch, where I was joined by Mr. Grant Geissman.  I do not understand this dearth of postings, and there will be a bitch-slapping to be reckoned with should we not have more.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was at rehearsal, then I had dinner at IHOP (I have been craving pancakes for several days, now and I FINALLY got me some very good pancakes :)), then I bought a new shirt ($50, but 40% off, then another $12 off!!...love my Fred Meyer rewards card :D) and now I'm catching up and working on memorizing my lyrics.

Dis anyone else try the new series THE UNHITCHABLES?

I'm sure Jane wouldn't make it to the first commercial.

SPOILER ALERT - UNHITCHABLES

The hero's rectal exam ascertained that the Orangutan was unsuccessful at his attempt at sodomy.

And the gal's line: "What I want is good stiff cock.....tail" was not bleeped.

I was just perusing the Internet (I really can't remember how I got to where I got...no, really!! ;)).  Anyway, I came across THIS (http://eatliver.com/vintage-ads/)[/b] site that has "Hilarious, shocking and creepy advertisements from the past century."  Some are hilarious, some are shocking and some are creepy.  There are several movie posters and one of them must be a poster for a sequel to BK's "The Brain From Planet X"!  First they send the brain and then, the rest:

Actually, not.  I just took this a couple of days ago because they needed a picture for the program.  It's not the headshot that I gave them when I auditioned last year.
