Well, you've read the notes, the notes were strange and oddly lackadaisical, and now it is time for you to post until the strange and oddly lackadaisical cows come home.

Good morning, all! Around 9:30 last night I decided I was too tired to stay up, read, or work, so I went to bed. Around 5:30 this morning, I was wide awake because of a dream in which I was editing orchestra parts for Debbie Gravitte kept repeating over and over. I fell back to sleep at some point to a dream about being in a dance contest, which is quite strange since I have no dancing abilities. I was happy to get out of bed around 7:45 and have some coffee.

I am heading down to Toyland this morning: I have a lot of next-to-final passes on Act One edits for The Lady Of The Slipper to plough through this weekend.

I've had a nice morning with the cats.  It was snowing when I woke up, but seems to have stopped.  Thinking about a trip to Barnes and Noble.   I'm also going to do some computer shopping.  Edith's is being used as our main server at the office and it's getting full and slow, so I'm going to get her a new one and move hers to the conference room/library. We're all networked so it will work fine.  It will also mean we have another computer if I decide to hire an intern

Hi everyone. Thanks for the car comments.  I'm off to deliver the title to the old car to the dealer this morning as I didn't have it with me last night.  I'm excited about the new car.

I had a dream last night that I had an appointment to see Stephen Sondheim for some reason that I can't remember.  I was with my pal Mark and we were going to meet him at some film lot or something.  I think Passion played a part in this, I couldn't remember.  But when we got there to see him, I totally forgot why we were there.

Somewhat tangentially related, I just watched my review copy of THE GREAT DEBATERS last night.  I was unexpectedly deeply, deeply moved.  I highly recommend this film to everyone.  Extremely touching and very well done.

And may I say that THE GREAT DEBATERS was able to at least partially remove the bad taste in my mouth (as well as my ears and eyes) that remained after SAW:  THE FINAL CHAPTER.

I've been having fun reading the booklets that come with AS YOU REMEMBER THEM.  I had completely forgotten that Sid Ramin wrote MUSIC TO WATCH GIRLS BY, to promote Diet Pepsi when it first came out.

We are going to see The King's Speech. It has finally opened here. I am looking forward to it.

I am curious to know if the Queen had any reaction to the movie being done about her father.

Other things that were big taht I recall are lip gloss especially Bonnie bell

Teen age girls carrying large purses and cans of Aqua net.

I was in my teens during that decade

Oh yes.. Spandex and leggings

It was not unusual to wear shrot leggings under a denim skirt, a torn tshirt and a jean jacket

polka dots were huge

Oddly, some of the shirts right now are a throwback to the 1980s

also Jelly shoes were big

skimmers and ballet type slippers were huge among some and also pumps aka 3-4 inch heels in a WIDE range of colours exept white. At least in the area I lived in the kids thought the white shoes meant you were wearing your grandmother's shoes

Keds sneakers

Zubaz . and sadly they are back.

I have one McClintock sun dress which I took to Maui.  The eyeglass frame I just changed out after five years was also a McClintock.

I have one Laura Ashley sundress & three corduroy dresses, two similar in style with long straight sleeves, not fabric, to the one you pictured.

I'm not sure if any of my Guess jeans are from the eighties.

I don't think I had a long skirt from there, mine were all short.  I had shorts, pants, dresses & skirts all in the classic safari style.  At the time they were the first time I had seen clothes like this.

I remember the day I went in to check out the new clothes & they were all working women type clothes.  I was not happy.

I still have some sweaters and jackets that have them.  Not big ones, but small ones - you don't really notice them.  I take a lot of them out, but some  look ok.

Saturday evening greetings from beautiful Savannah, GA!  Well, I think it's beautiful, but it was dark by the time we arrived so I'll have to verify that tomorrow.  After our smooth flight from Cincinnati to Jacksonville, we picked up our rental car and headed north on I-95.  We were ready for lunch so we hopped over to Jekyll Island and ate looking at the Atlantic Ocean.  We looked around the island for a while and decided that we could easily spend a week there.  We continued north and took a quick look at St. Simon's Island - too much traffic - and then got back on the interstate and arrived at our hotel about an hour ago.

Thanks to DRs Elmore and Cillaliz for this morning's travel vibes!

Bruce please do not put your heroine in padded shoulders again.  Some of her clothes go beyond fun vintage.

Hey, I used to wear padded shoulders all the time

I pulled most of mine out.  Would you want to wear them again?  Those women's suites from the 40's with the huge shoulder pads tended to me truly unflattering, IMHO.

I still have some sweaters and jackets that have them.  Not big ones, but small ones - you don't really notice them.  I take a lot of them out, but some  look ok.

The small ones can be flattering, or look ok ;)

There are a variety of Dirndl style dresses.  The only one I remember wearing is a jumper dress style & that was way before the eighties.  Which one are you referring to?

The dress I'm talking about is the one in the link.  There aren't several, there's one.  Early 1970s.

You must mean the dress at the top of the page cuz there is a whole row of them under it.  It is cute even if I don't remember dresses in that style I would like to have had one, but then we were very poor.

I loved those in winter over my jeans, especially when sledding on a nice sunning day.

It's all too explicable. I felt the same way when I saw "Fanciulla" for the first time.

It reminds me of the "Forbidden Broadway" sketch where ALW is depicted as Mickey Mouse and the announcement comes that Puccini's back from the grave and he's "really pissed!"

In other news...

A friend-of-a-friend contacted me this morning via Twitter and email asking if I was back in town this weekend. He's helping out with a "Broadway Intensive" program, and, unfortunately, due to a family emergency, their pianist had to drop out last night. So...

I played a couple of hours today, and I'll be filling in tomorrow and Monday too.  Most of the participants are pre-teen and teenage girls, but there are a couple of boys and young men in the mix too.  In other words, I'll be getting reacquainted with the "Greatest Hits" from Annie, Oliver!, Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot.  -There are supposed to be some adults enrolled in the program, but I didn't see or hear any of them today.

DR Ginny - Another great place to check out in Savannah is the Gryphon Tea Room.  It's owned and operated by the Savannah College of Art & Design.  It's a beautiful room, and the food "matches" the decor.  You can go for either Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner, but they also serve an Afternoon Tea if you're in the mood for a light meal.

Musto has weighed in on the All That Chat hacking

All That Chat, the breathlessly readable site known for dissecting shows in previews, critiquing writers who actually get bylines and salaries, and posing questions like "Are there gunshots during Long Day's Journey Into Night?" was recently hacked and is now asking readers to chip in for a security service to monitor the site.
Talk about breaking the fourth wall!

Meanwhile, this just came in from a reader:

"I wonder if it's worth investigating that the hacking of ALL THAT CHAT might have been deliberately malicious, rather than just a prank...

"Not to be too paranoid, but certainly there are a few producers in town who have benefitted from the site being down this week.

"If this was done with malicious intent, rather than a prank, it's a crime. It might even be a crime in the latter case.

"In all seriousness, doesn't the FBI investigate cases like this?"

Good points.

Julie Taymor, was it you?"

Wonder what the response a newspaper would be to a hacking such as the one on All That Chat? I doubt they would ask for people to help pay for the security. Yet more and more websites are asking for subscriptions to help defer such costs.

I don't read All That Chat, but would you be willing to contribute?
