Well, you've read the notes, the notes came and went, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently coming and going, not necessarily in that order.
-
And the word of the day is: BREVIARY!
-
This morning, we will check out of the hotel and move into our new home, boxes, animals and all.
No TV for about a week, but if I can find the box with cables for the DVD player, we will survive.
-
Ginny, I'm glad the CD arrived safely. It's a wonderful revue. I wish I could have seen it in England.
I am very busy at work this week so I won't be around much.
I am part of a presentation to our Board on Friday. I have a 2 hour rehearsal this afternoon and I'm finishing up my notes right now. After the presentation we do get to be part of the "informal" lunch provided to the board. In this time of cutbacks I'm surprised they are having the lunch at all but it is the board of directors after all.
Will it be more than sandwiches and side salads? We shall see on Friday.

Good morning, all! And here's the Big news: The Rodgers & Hammerstein has been sold!
http://www.rnh.com/news_detail.asp?newsid=N_000401&div=home&pagesource=index.asp&s=1
As for me, I feel like old news: I got myself unknowingly thrown into the middle of a Castrecl catfight, I'm going to the NYPL again today, I think I'm once again overdrawn at the bank. The more things change . . .
DR JMK, the "Downtown" number is on the Region-2 disc. I cannot think what music rights are violated to force its removal, but it's a very funny moment, and there's a reference to it later in another episode from Caroline Bingley, as I recall.
TOD:

Comcast will be here momentarily to decipher what the problem is with the HD CABLE.
-
I didn't mind Ruth Lyons and her bunch, but I hated Bob Braun who took over for her...UGH.
And for those who didn't know....the 50-50 Club was named for the number of seats in the studio when Ruth started the show on radio...when they moved to TV and had a bigger studio they doubled the size of the audience making it 50-50.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to husband of dear reader Jane, Keith.
-
I guess I set my internal clock a little earlier than I should.
-
I had to call paypal - I got double-charged for something so they removed one of the charges.

elmore, what was the fight about?
-
Oh, and I'm up. Early.
-
I didn't mind Ruth Lyons and her bunch, but I hated Bob Braun who took over for her...UGH.
Bob Braun, truly smarmy!
BK, the contretemps on castrecl began with a discussion of the pros and cons of Gerald Bordman's dreadful books on American theatre, so you already know whose side I'm not on, and one poster who can be windy came to Bordman's defense. Another poster decided I was being vilified and came to my defense with a rather ugly post, then decided it was another poster who was the object of scorn. It was all a tempest in a teapot, but I am amazed that so many think Gerald Bordman's lousy secondhand research and inaccuracies are worthwhile. I found his "reference books" when I was working at Drama Book Shop worthless for research since he's very incomplete in his writing.
-
We're in the house...and, as you can see, my Internet is working.
Everything else is secondary.

I have had more packages gone astray on the Illya Darling release than any other, and I'm really annoyed about it - so far about ten, which, in my estimation, is an outrage.
-
I can't say I a huge fan of Kander/Ebb. Don't much care for Cabaret, indifferent to Chicago. While I admired the movie of SpiderWoman, I didn't like ot and so never saw or heard the musical.
I quite like several Goulet songs from THE HAPPY TIME:
I DON'T REMEMBER YOU
(WALKING)AMONG MY YESTERDAYS
SEEING THINGS

Happy Birthday, Keith!

Good morning!
Looks like another beautiful day here. Supposed to get to 70. Very typically spring and most welcome.

I hope Keith has a happy birthday. Even though he doesn't post here, he and DR Jane watch and comment on many of the shows and films I see, so I kind of feel like he's a part of the site even without his actual presence on-line.

TOD:
I ADORE Kander and Ebb. CABARET and THE HAPPY TIME, CHICAGO, THE RINK, and KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN are superb musicals filled with brilliant numbers.

"A Quiet Thing"
"Seeing Things"
"Yes"
"Maybe This Time"
"My Own Best Friend"
"Sometimes a Day Goes By"
"Colored Lights"
"We Can Make It"
"You Could Never Shame Me"
"Everybody Dance"
-
DR Matt H, I could never give up on the idiocies of the soap operas - were the plots always this moronic and simple? - because they are one of the few things I do watch that allow me to have some sense of superiority, not to mention outrage that those idiot writers are making good money for this lunacy and I could pee a better script.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Slept in today and that always makes me a little groggy.
Happiest of birthdays to Keith, DH of DR Jane!

I see your point. It's not hard to feel superior to these really lamebrained plots and dreadful dialog.
-
DR Michael Shayne,
I think Angela Lansbury's Emmy nomination for LAW & ORDER: SVU was her 19th nomination; however, unlike Susan Lucci who won on her 19th bid, Lansbury did not win (Amanda Plummer did on a different LAW & ORDER: SVU).
-
I read the Outer Critics Circle nominations yesterday. Does no one have any comments to make on what was nominated and who was (possibly) snubbed? I haven't seen the shows, so it's hard to know what was chosen and what was omitted.
-
Having put it off as long as possible, today I will delve back into IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES, this time on Blu-ray. Shouldn't take up the entire afternoon, and since I've already watched all the bonus features which are ported over onto the Blu-ray, it should actually be a relatively easy work day for me.
-

I find, given their huge(?) roster of actors that the budget cuts can't accommodate too many extras or day players these days, the characters have nearly no friends except the immediate casts and the writers are too dumb to even use the relationships they set up six months ago: why isn't Casey involved in this idiotic perverted twins plot? He and his love life are my favorite storyline these days, although I love the wino and her idiot police detective ex-husband who would lose at a game of Clue!

And here's the Big news: The Rodgers & Hammerstein has been sold!
Does that mean that Imagem will now be licensing The Brain from Planet X??
-
I was up bright and early this morning to go to Target, and I could have gotten there even earlier since I thought they opened at 9 and they actually open at 8. I make one of these Target runs about every three months to stock up on essentials, and it's nice being there early because the store is basically empty. I got a front row parking space, did my shopping, and went to the checkout where there was no one waiting. Wow!
-
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR Jane's DH Keith!!!!!! :) :) :) :)
-
And here's the Big news: The Rodgers & Hammerstein has been sold!

I suspect that the difference in owners will mean that the licensing will still come from "Rodgers & Hammerstein Theatre Library" and the payments to do the show will be deposited in Imagem's bank account rather than one for the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. The question will be what bank account sends Bruce and David their royalties.

TOD,
I really like "I Miss the Music" from CURTAINS, but that was written by John Kander after Fred Ebb died so not sure that counts.
I alos like "Tough Act to Follow" "Coffee Shop Nights" andn "The Woman's Dead" I know at least one or two of those are both Kander and Ebb, not sure if all of them are. (not sure when they were written - I know they are all John Kander)
-
TOD:
Aside from CHICAGO I don't think I know from the TOD.

-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I decided to sleep in instead of heading out early for a breakfast at the Marina. And that was a good thing.
-
DR elmore - The song in question is titled: "At The Rialto".
-And, yes, it is quite beautiful.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TO DR JANE'S DH KEITH!!!!!
-
I like Target too.
*And as a current employee of Charleston Stage Company, I currently receive a 15% discount on all my purchases. :)
-
I have had more packages gone astray on the Illya Darling release than any other, and I'm really annoyed about it - so far about ten, which, in my estimation, is an outrage.
...Time to start looking into printing out your mailing labels instead of (hand-)writing them out. There's a lesser margin of error for typeset/printed labels when they go through the scanners and sorters. -Just sayin'. ;)
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
"Sometimes A Day Goes By"
"At the Rialto"
"Dressing Them Up" - Mainly for the fact that it's so fun to play.
And a very little known number, "Monopoly".
-
DR JRand - I waved at you when we crossed Mooresville Rd. yesterday! The Indianapolis airport has grown quite a bit since my grandmother lived near there in the '50s and '60s.
Yes our new International Airport is much changed from Weir Cook Airport of the 1950's....the NEW section opened earlier this year and I haven't seen it yet....so it should be quite interesting when Molly arrives in August.
-
Well if ANYONE was going to go astray - it would be Illya.
-
And now I need to go in for a brief rehearsal for tomorrow morning's butt-crack-of-dawn presentation. So...
Laters...

And JANE
How does the 17 Year Old Look Today?
And What are your Plans For This Special Occasion?
-
Yes, BK, why don't you at least *try* maybe one or two PayPal multi-order shipping labels just to see how you like them? You can download how ever many you want to do at any given time (I use the feature to print out individual labels all the time). The only downside I can see is that you're going to have to trim the labels to fit on your CD packages, but is that any more trouble than hand addressing them all?
-
One of the greatest joys I ever had as a performer was doing AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND. I loved being in this show, getting to sing a wide range of numbers from playful to sad to hilarious. And getting to dance on roller skates and crutches, strum a banjo, sing a bit of "New York, New York" in French, and do that fabulous jazzy five-part harmony rendition of "Cabaret" was simply one of the highlights of my time on the stage.
I saw the original cast off-Broadway and loved the show, but nothing can ever replace being in it.
-
But before I go, here's a fun site - which now has an accompanying book:
Sleeveface (http://www.sleeveface.com/)
:)
-
I guess I need to head down now to check the mail and then start thinking about fixing some lunch.
I'm also washing linens today, so I have a full afternoon of stuff to do!
WBBL.
-
Back from the long jog and allergies are still with me - hoping the Alavert kicks in soon.
-
I'm not ready to accept pre-preorders yet (I'll be ready tomorrow or Thursday) but I think it's fairly known now that our new show release will be the 1968 revival cast album of Harold Arlen and Truman Capote's House Of Flowers, originally issued on UA Records. It's a very different beast than the original Columbia albums and, in fact, has a few different songs, which makes it a must-have for completists and Arlen fans. One of the new songs, Something Cool To Drink, is one of my all-time favorite Arlen tunes. The other thing that makes the recording unique and very special in my estimation, are the downsized new arrangements and orchestrations by Joe Raposo, who would go on to write incredible stuff for Sesame Street - these are funkier, more fun, and very true to the spirit of the piece - more so than the show's original orchestrations, at least for me. The cast is terrific and those songs - A Sleepin' Bee, I Never Has Seen Snow, Two Ladies in de Shade of The Banana Tree, Don't Like Goodbyes - every one a winner.
-
Maybe Larry, who knows all, can help: did you see L&O:CI this week? If so, who was the Angie Dickinson lookalike who played Scott Cohen's wife?
This know-it-all doesn't! I was watching LITTLE DORRIT and missed CI. I'm sorry.
-
I've lunched on tuna salad, 3-bean salad and a kosher dill, and I'm ready to walk in the rain to the Lincoln Center NYPL. On Saturday, around 3, my blood sugar crashed and I had to get home, so today I will take some candy in my pocket to cover such an emergency. If needed.
-
One of the first shows I ever MD'd was And the World Goes 'Round, so the score has a soft spot in my heart. I can remember vividly the personal CRAP I was going through at the time, so whenever I hear the "I Don't Remember You" and "Sometimes a Day Goes By" duet, it conjures up those old thoughts/feelings without fail. I also love the "We Can Make It", "Maybe This Time", "Isn't This Better" trio. It barely works together, that's what's so great about it.
Other Kander and Ebb songs: Boom-Ditty-Boom (70 Girls 70). Ah Ma (The Rink), and the score to Cabaret
-
Well....here is the vapid and ego-driven non talent named Bob Braun who took over from Ruth Lyons...

Hmmmm I got my two Steve Cochran movies (mentioned by DR MBARNUM last week) and REPO THE GENETIC OPERA today. I shall watch them when I get home this evening after rehearsal.
-
TOD:
Since "Everything" is too inclusive an answer:
"And the World Goes 'Round", one of Ebb's most perfectly crafted lyrics. (And my Esperanto version "Kaj Rondiras Ter' " ain't too shoddy either ;D )
"Mr. Cellophane"
"Seeing Things", although I could kick Brent Barrett for not doing the verse, which contains the great lead-in, "You say, 'Come down; you're going to fall!' / I say, 'Go up; you're touching the sky!' "
"My Own Best Friend", and rats to Fosse for not seeing how great it could have been if he hadn't decided to camp it up with irony.
"Where You Are". In some bad situations, this song gives me very good advice.
"Blue Crystal"
"Marry Me"
"The Apple Doesn't Fall"
"Colored Lights"-- incredible verbal pyrotechnics.
Just about anything else from The Rink.
"Sing Happy"
Yeah, I'll name "New York, New York", but only Liza's version, because every time I hear Sinatra's I think, how sad that his voice was almost gone. What he could have done with this song when he was young!
"All That Jayazz" with the second syllable intact.
Most of my others have been listed already, but I may come back to add more. One never knows, do one?
-
"Do We?"
"Coffee in a Cardboard Cup" Would you like a slice of Sara Lee with that? No thanks. Forget the 'and', Andy. Not coffee and, Andy; just coffee, Andy.
"Wet", how could I forget Brent and Jane's incWETibly sexy version of "Wet"?
"The Skin of Our Teeth"
-
who was the Angie Dickinson lookalike who played Scott Cohen's wife?
Frances Farmer?? :)
-
I am uploading yet ANOTHER fascinating video on youtube. I bet you all can't wait.

Something I've been wondering:

Is DR WFO doing Guys & Dolls too?

She would if she could, I am sure.
-
Something I've been wondering:
DR WFO: Have you heard anything from Angel Jim?
Unfortunately, he is still in Attica, and it isn't from not trying. Thousands of dollars to lawyers, appeals, at least one article in a major newspaper--it's very sad. Quite clearly there are people all the way up to the top who want this case buried, because there has been a cover-up from day one of the police actions.
Quite frankly, I don't know when Jim is getting out. They keep turning down his probation. It's five years now, and the only charge is basically fleeing from the officers, who didn't identify themselves.
Thanks for asking about him Laura. He'll be pleased to know you're thinking of him.
-
I thought he would have been out for quite some time now.

Has AT THE RIALTO ever been recorded?

And JANE
How does the 17 Year Old Look Today?
And What are your Plans For This Special Occasion?
Well apparently much better than I do. The other day I bumped into a couple I haven't seen in ages. Keith was walking into a store with Sherlock when I called him back to meet the couple. As he began walking back towards us the man said "so this must be your son". Keith is very happy of course. ;D
We don't have any special plans today. The deck guy is returning to finish. We will probably take Sherlock into town later & walk around.
-
We were at a family reunion near Indianapolis over the weekend. We waved, JRand, when we drove through your town.
Here is the moving walkway in the new Indianapolis airport. This airport is so new that the talking GPS we got the day before the trip didn't know where the airport was.

TOD:
Almost all of my favorites have been mentioned except for "The Flame" from FLORA, THE RED MENACE. I think it's a perfect musical comedy set piece--funny character-driven lyrics with music that builds progressively from a subtle march to a rollicking polka. The number never fails to make me laugh out loud.
A song that has been mentioned but that I partial to is "Mr. Cellophane". It was the first song that I ever sang solo in front of an audience.

Ouch is right. The thing is, for years it was the other way around. People would see me with the boys think I was closer to their age. The last year has not been kind to me & Keith has inherited his mother's beautiful skin.

MBarnum, I know Keith wishes I were the housewife in those cards. ;D

I don't have the antipathy for ole Bob that you seem to, Jrand, but like him or not, he was probably as well known a fixture in Cincinnati as Ruth Lyons, Paul Dixon, Bob Shreve, Bonnie Lou, and Pete Rose were. He later appeared on a lot of infomercials I'd see out in California. His son Rob (who was almost a dead ringer for him) was, for a long time, a local Cincinnati newscaster...may still be. But thanks for the link...which had a lot more YouTube clips of other WLW shows like Ruth's, Dixon's, and Shreve's. Very nostalgic!

It's an unfounded rumor that this was Tharon Musser's last project.
Speaking of Tharon Musser, does the traditional tribute of dimming the lights on Broadway strike anyone else as an odd way of honoring her?
Speaking further of Tharon Musser, was she the inspiration for Shirley Markowitz?

Have any of you seen Altar Boyz?
If you have - do you think it would be a fun (and appropriate) show to take the Vixter and some of her friends to as as Sweet 16 Celebration?
I just got an email advertising $25 and $30 tickets which is something that I could probably swing for 3 or 4 girls.
Opinions?
And yes the Vixter turns 16 on the 29th!

Speaking of birthdays --- Happy Birthday to Keith, DH of Jane.
I wish you and your lovely bride recover quickly from the terrible itchy rash!!
-
Congratulations to Druxy on a successful house move!!
-
Well I have to go attempt to eat something... LATERS!!
-
Vixmom, I don't remember Altar Boys as being inappropriate for a 16-year -old. But I had a 20-something-year-old with me.

I'm going to ship some packages and do some errands and maybe have a small sandwich, since I won't be eating after the commentary track and I'll need something before it and not too close to it.

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Jane's DH Keith!! ;D

We got the estimate from the caterer this morning for Gabe's Bar Mitzvah. Almost 3K. Oy.
In the good news department, the wonderful Budget Committee at the church where I work decided last night not to cut staff hours/salary by 20%, which had been on the table due to the economy. I'm incredibly grateful. As is the caterer.

Happy Birthday to Keith!

We're in the house...and, as you can see, my Internet is working.
Everything else is secondary.
;D
Congrats, DR Druxy! ;D
It's about time. ;)
-
Continues to be a heavenly day. A slight little breeze greeted me as I sat on the porch while my lunch was cooking.
-
I watched last night's CASTLE while I ate lunch. It was a very enjoyable episode. Not much mystery to it, but the banter between the two leads brings back the wonderful back-and-forth that Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd shared in MOONLIGHTING.
-
Then I watched IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES on Blu-ray for my work project. Oy! Am I glad I won't have to watch this movie again!
The Criterion Blu-ray transfer is one of the most beautiful transfers I've ever seen. Everything in beautiful focus with rich color and flesh tones that are as close to perfect as I've ever seen in a home video transfer. Contrast just right, not too pumped up and with natural grain giving it a very filmlike appearance.
But those real sex scenes are just not something I feel comfortable watching. (The intercourse was not simulated for the filming.)
-
So, on AS THE STOMACH TURNS, now both gay boys are tied up by the crazy incestuous twins! Does no one on this soap ever use a cell phone or call the police when they need to? Nope. A fire starts in a kitchen and rather than dialing 911, the teens run away; this idiot rich gay kid finds his boy friend tied up and does he go for the police? Oy!
-
The bonus features were all in high definition, too. I didn't rewatch any of them in their entirety, but sampled all of them to see what the resolution was for them.

This was the last thing I watched today, and as Luke was railing on and on about Damien, I just fast forwarded through it. Talk about a broken record (and Holden is just as bad)!
I see the storyline continues tomorrow. Maybe they can wrap it up then. We can already see that Damien is going to save the day, and that's going to drive a stake through Lily and Holden's relationship especially since Luke is now softening toward him.
-
Good afternoon, it's turned into an unexpected day. Nothing extraordinary, but much better than I thought. I'm probably going to leave early so I can go home, catch some dinner then return for the reception and announcement of next years Broadway at the Orpheum season. Then it's Ain't Misbehavin with Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis. I'm looking forward to it.
-
Please, sir, pretty Admiral, no boom-boom!

SHeesh! Lily and Holden are still having a relationship? I watched ATWT back when she was barely a teenager and they started fooling around.
-
Back from the grocery store - tonight's dinner=burgers 'n' fries, tomorrow's=chicken 'n' rice. Isn't retirement exciting?
-
Before I watched AS THE WORLD TURNS, I watched another NCIS episode from the second season set. In this one, a bounty hunter is looking to collect a million dollars for discovering the body of a long dead heir to a fortune. Very easy to see the conclusion to this one a mile away. Not the show's finest hour.
-
My brain has not been in work mode lately, I think it's just spring. It's supposed to be 84 on Thursday. That's just too darn hot for April

Yes, they're together (as of now), but it's been a rocky road during the past year. And it looks to be again within a few more episodes.
-
Think I'll cut out early, I need to get out the hose and clean off the air conditioner just in case I need it later in the week

Well I'm talking back in the 80s. It's been years and years since I was home during the day. I think that Meg Ryan was still on last I watched regularly

Hey! Retirement is the GREATEST thing that ever happened to me. I can't imagine working a 9-5 job any more. I LOVE what I do now!
And those dinners sound GREAT! Simplicity is the key!

Yeah, I agree, DR MattH. I'm just in a bit of a funk today, mostly dreading what I have to do tomorrow - take my 80-year-old aunt to a gastroenterologist.
-
This morning, I went to my dentist. I had a very good check-up. No new cavities...yet again!

PAGE SIX DANCE!!

But before I go, here's a fun site - which now has an accompanying book:
Sleeveface (http://www.sleeveface.com/)
:)
Very funny!! I love "The Turning Point!"
-
Have any of you seen Altar Boyz?
If you have - do you think it would be a fun (and appropriate) show to take the Vixter and some of her friends to as as Sweet 16 Celebration?
I just got an email advertising $25 and $30 tickets which is something that I could probably swing for 3 or 4 girls.
Opinions?
And yes the Vixter turns 16 on the 29th!
I just saw it last week. I was very good. There is no "language" and I think that there would be no problem for a 16 year old to see it. :)
-
I'm not sure if this will interest anyone, but here are a list of all the season finale dates for CBS. There are also blurbs about the finales (which i didn't read cause i don't like to know too much).

BTW, DR MATTH i agree about last night's MEDIUM. Very enjoyable!
I just love how the writers work. They continually come up with new and interesting things. Can't wait for next week's continuation.

I wish they had kept going last night. The hour whizzed by, and I wasn't ready for the show to be over.

A change in the On TV Tonight!™ listings.
ABC is showing a new episode of THE UNUSUALS tonight at 10 in place of the low-rated CUPID. I think they're trying to decide which 10 p.m. slot will garner it the best ratings.

Well, not quite.
You've located the bathrooms, right?

Sad news from Long Island :'(
Anthony's mother's dog, MacGregor, a West Highland terrier joined the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. He was 13 years old and had prostate cancer that had spread to other places in his little body. They finally got a firm diagnosis yesterday. It had been a few weeks before the doctor finally decided. He went out peacefully in the arms of his "mommy" He was a funny, friendly and beautiful doggy. He will be missed.
We will be out there this weekend (Anthony will get back to New York on Thursday or Friday) and it will be odd not to be met at the door by his bark of hello. I haven't told Anthony yet. I'll tell him when he gets back to the city. Luckily he doesn't read this here sight so he won't know anything.
Bye MacGregor
-
My next Criterion set arrived in the mail today. It's the Alexander Korda box of four films. It doesn't come out until May 12th, but as I have only one more review disc in my stack (a Paramount family comedy called A PLUMM SUMMER), I'll be starting on those films later in the week.
-
I think MacGregor is happy and at peace. One hopes that kind of end for us all.
-
{{{{{MacGregor}}}}}
Rest in loving peace.

RIP, MacGregor...

If any DRs are planning on driving in the lovely state of Delaware in the future, beware:
I now have my Learner's Permit!
Der B's daughter drove us to the DMV (located in Georgetown), where I was told that my Identification Card was enough out of date that I'd have to prove that I am still living in Delaware by providing two pieces of mail addressed to me at my current address. So we drove back to the house, and back to the DMV, where I got an up-to-date Identification Card (horrible picture, of course), and started the process for the Learner's Permit.
Did I want to take the written test immediately? I thought it would be a good idea to look over the rule book first, so we three drove back to Rehoboth, to give a new BBQ jernt called Bethany Blues (http://www.bethanyblues.com/lewes) a try while I boned up on the book. Not a bad lunch. We're going to basically skip dinner tonight.
Along the way, der B hopped over to a thrift store right next door and found a new couch to replace the one that has completely fallen apart (and which was given to us as a temp when we moved here).
Back to the DMV, where I took the written test. It's amazing, how high tech Delaware is, compared with the torture that was every California DMV - the test was completely computerized, keeping score on the questions as I went. I nearly aced it - I missed one questions, which I had doubts about to begin with and should have skipped (that's an option) - and the moment I got the minimum number of questions correct, the computer congratulated me and told me I'd passed. And the people at the DMV were all genuinely friendly - again, something never encountered at a California DMV.
I got to drive us back to Rehoboth.
Now I've got two months until I have to take the actual driving test. Uh-oh, that means parallel parking. Oh, bother.

...soap operas - those idiot writers are making good money for this lunacy and I could pee a better script.
But what actor would want to read a script like that?
"Ewww, this page is still wet! I want hazard pay, the way Carol Channing's busboys were paid!"
-
On TV TOnight!
NBC - THE BIGGEST LOSER
ABC - ACCORDING TO JIM, DANCING WITH THE STARS results, CUPID
FOX - AMERICAN IDOL, FRINGE
CW - REAPER, 90210
FX - RESCUE ME
It's a good thing none of those shows interest me, since Wednesday is my early day at work and I'd never get enough sleep if I tried watching any of them.

Tonight, I'm going up to Seattle to see Sunday in the Park with George (http://www.5thavenue.org/show/SundayintheParkwithGeorge0809/sundaysite/index.html) with Hugh Panaro, Patti Cohenour and Susannah Mars!! I wish I had a video camera that I could sneak in. ;)

If he does talk to Rose between now and Thursday she won't say anything. She told me and asked me not to tell Anthony until he returns to NY.

And yes the Vixter turns 16 on the 29th!
We saw it last summer when we were in Austin, deciding if we wanted to move here. It was playing at the ZACH (Zachary Scott Theatre)
We enjoyed it. It was a fun show.

OK I will try to stop worrying about the nearly $350.00 the Vixter's school ring is going to cost ( and she chose one of the least expensive rings, in fact she chose the cheapest metal which we decided to upgrade to silver - gold, even the 10K gold, was out of reach - they also had options like diamonds for side stones (she chose cubic zirconia and we did not disuade her).
I could not believe how expensive these rings are - the salesman for the ring company must make a nice living!
-
Continues to be a heavenly day. A slight little breeze greeted me as I sat on the porch while my lunch was cooking.
I have an urge to visit with you for the rest of my recuperation, Matt H: a lovely clean house, a nice porch to sit on during all your sunny and warm days and then state of the art movie viewing!
It sounds heavenly! What are your day rates? ;)

GI visits are not my favorite but right now my GI Dr is definitely high on my list of People I am Grateful For

This morning, I went to my dentist. I had a very good check-up. No new cavities...yet again!

Wasn't that an old Colgate commercial?
Congratulations on the good news George!

I am sorry Ben for you and Ant and for Ant's Mom. It is always hard to lose a beloved pet and MacGregor looks like a sweetie!

If any DRs are planning on driving in the lovely state of Delaware in the future, beware:
I now have my Learner's Permit!
Congratulations SWW!
The Vixter will be eligible for hers in 8 days.
Here in New York you can access the study guide online and take practice tests.
I'll alert the media should she decide to move forward in that direction!
-
Well Vixdad should be home any moment and the Vixter is off at Girl Scouts - guess I 'll go put the kettle on for tea!
-
I must take Sherlock before it gets too hot. I really was miserable yesterday. Last night was my worst night yet. If it weren't for drugs I wouldn't get any sleep.
There are a few folks I see every day on my walk from the parking garage to work who apparently feel the same way!
:D
:D

Congratulations to DR SWoody for his learner's permit!

We haven't watched it yet. Every week we enjoy the show more. The first half of the first episode the guy seemed more of a jerk than funny, now we find him delightful. I love when he uses his "author" voice. Keith likes that there isn't a back story. He doesn't mind the one in THE MENTALIST as much as on LIFE.

I hope Keith is having a festive and happy natal day!

DR Ben, MacGregor was a cutie. Unless asked I wouldn't mention his passing. Might his mother tell him? Please give him our condolences.

Congratulations S.W.W.!!! Does this also mean DerBrucer renewed his license & is legal to drive? I think it was nice for his daughter to be concerned and take you. Did she drive all three times?
Der B now has his ID card. And the car passed inspection, and had it's licence renewed.
His daughter did almost all the driving, to the DMV and from and to and from and to. I did the final from.
We're already planning on her hubby, der B's son-in-law (and therefor my out-law) helping with getting the licence itself. Which should be interesting, since he tends to be lead-footed when he's the one behind the wheel. WHEEEEEE!!!
And here's an interesting anomaly: to get the ID, all I had to prove was that I am currently living in Delaware. That took providing them with mail sent to me where we live. To get the Driver's Licence, I have to provide either a current passport or my birth certificate - in other words, prove that I'm actually me. Although, how my birth certificate provides that kind of proof, compared to the mail...
I mean, hey, even if I hand them the ink-print of my baby feet, I can tell you right now that I've grown a bit since then. How does anyone actually prove who he is?
(Oooh, the discussion verges into existentialism!)
(Der B, being a spoilsport, just told me that they're just asking me to prove I'm an American citizen. Pppbbbbbbbbtttttt!)
-
DR Woody, remember: a permit to drive is not a permit to go joyriding with a carload of boys until all hours of the night.

I've got my usual ungawdly early start for tomorrow. Thanks to everyone. Continuing vibes to Vixmom and her Vixkin. And I'm wussburgering outta here!
-
Good afternoon everyone. Read today's posts.
Dear JR, I heard all the California hippies moved to Oregon.
Dear MattH, I'm looking forward to retirement, I've been working 40 hrs a week for 38 years.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH
Dear Ben, MacGregor looked like just a wonderful dog, I'm sorry on his passing.
Dear George, I hope you have a wonderful time tonight, I'd see the show just from the link.
Dear Jose, thanks for the pics, funny.
And again Laura and Daw just make me laugh.
-
Now to read yesterday's posts.
-
Keith said to thank DR’s Vixmom, George, Jennifer, td, TCB & Jeanne for his birthday wishes. :)
-
Good Evening!
Well... I can already tell that I'm going to get a bit emotional when I have my last meal at FIG on Saturday... ::) ;) ::)
-
DR Ben - Sorry to hear of MacGregor's passing. I really hope that Ant takes the news well.
-
I've been rereading Agnes deMille's wonderful Dance To The Piper and her closing section on the making and premiere of the ballet RODEO leading to the opening night of OKLAHOMA! is so generous and moving, along with the wonderful gossip and portraits of various ballet stars like the great Danilova, star of the company, doing deMille's makeup for the opening performance of RODEO. just glorious.
-
DR vixmom - I think the vixter and her friends would LOVE Altar Boyz. Depending how many people are going, you may want to call their group sales hotline, you may be able to get a better rate - and they sometime will recognize the "birthday girls" in the audience too.
*And one of my roommates is one of the dressers for the show. Just sayin'....
-
DR elmore - I believe I have Hugh's current number.
-
DR George - Well, if you do happen to get a glimpse of Hugh, please be sure to wave HI to him for me. ;)
-
for yesterday:
Dear Vixmom, glad you're feeling better.
Dear Jose, best wishes for Danielle.
-
one more for yesterday:
Dear Dakotacelt, very funny slow news day article.
-
DR SWW - Congrats on being an almost-fully-licensed driver!
-
Must go do some stuff, hoping it will be cool enough outside to open the door and windows soon.
-
Otherwise my life is quite boring during the work week.
Till later, have a good Wednesday. (hump day)

Good afternoon everyone. Read today's posts.
Dear JR, I heard all the California hippies moved to Oregon.
Only Jane and Keith.
-
Had trouble getting online for the last 6 hours.
-
Happy Birthday to Keith
-
Sorry to hear about McGreggor
I still think about my dog I had for 18 years. I was never able to replace him
-
I just got back from seeing Maureen McGovern in concert.
I waited for over 30 years to see her live.
It was so wonderful. I fell in love. What a wonderful lady.
We had to a chance to chat after the show and she signed all my cd inserts that I had.
-
All the cd inserts except for one
It was 20th Century Masters. the Best of Maureen McGovern.
She told me she got stiff from them and received no royalties. So I told her she did have to sign it.
-
Maureen McGovern had nice things to say about BK

Jose:
Has AT THE RIALTO ever been recorded?
I don't believe it has. However, Karen Akers' last cabaret show, "Move On", closed with "At the Rialto", and she also has a Kander & Ebb show too - and I believe a recording is in the works for either show.

Was this her "Long and Winding Road" show? -If so, GREAT SHOW!
-
Now for all those wonderful people who have a great ear for music.
I have a question about the song THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS.
Now I have heard other people sing but this is the first time I noticed something about this song. It may have been the arrangement, but........
The song Romantic Notions from the musical Romance/Romance seemed to have borrowed thematically from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
Any body notice this or am I just whistling away the dark?

Continues to be a heavenly day. A slight little breeze greeted me as I sat on the porch while my lunch was cooking.
I have an urge to visit with you for the rest of my recuperation, Matt H: a lovely clean house, a nice porch to sit on during all your sunny and warm days and then state of the art movie viewing!
It sounds heavenly! What are your day rates? ;)
Rates are very reasonable even in the off-season! I'll drop a brochure in the mail to you!
;D

Oh Miss McGovern was doing her new show based on her newest release A LONG AND WINDING ROAD
-
Had an interesting evening of viewing. I began with an NCIS episode on DVD. It was a fairly funny one with an FBI unit that was the mirror image of Gibbs' NCIS unit both investigating what appeared to be a murder and ended up being about a drug deal gone bad. And a good trick ending.

Well I will check with her then and see ifshe would like to do that. I was hoping last summer to save enough to take her and and a few friends to a Broadway show and out to dinner to celebrate her Sweet Sixteen but the events of the past few months have taken a deep toll onthe old finances - still the ad I received said tickets for $25 and $30 for the Best seats in the house - I figure I could take her and 3 of her friends for $150 so that could be a good day out and still be in the budget.
I will broach the subject with her tomorrow. If we go - I will definitely let you know the date!
Thanks!
-
Next I watched MOONRAKER on Blu-ray. It's my least favorite Bond film, but when Amazon had it on sale for $13.99 a week or so ago, I couldn't pass it up. And my feelings about the movie haven't changed. A thoroughly dull villain, beautiful but completely vacuous Bond girls, and a pretty lame outer space plot plus a villainous henchman who does an about face 2/3 of the way through the movie. Nope, it's a turkey.
And wouldn't you know it! It has the finest transfer of any of the Roger Moore Bonds thus far issued. It has a GREAT picture, and the original Dolby stereo sound has been modified into a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix that sounds VERY modern, pretty much the equal of something like IRON MAN or EAGLE EYE.

The theatre it plays in in New World Stages. There's really not a bad seat in the house.
-
Next, I watched Monday night's CHUCK. The Buy More stuff still just spoils the fun of the missions for me. I enjoyed Bakula and Chedder Cheese (Chevy Chase) as the guest stars and wanted more of them and less of the foolishness at Buy More.
-
Poor little MacGregor :-\
Such a cute pup. But I bet he had a wonderful life with Anthony's mom.
-
...And there was a new item on the menu at FIG tonight: Braised Lamb Neck Ravioli with Mint Pesto. Sooooo good. -As was the perfectly made Mint Julep that preceded it. :)
-
And I ended my evening watching tonight's AMERICAN IDOL disco night.
Once again, Adam Lambert stomps the competition into the ground with an unusual version of his song. Kris put a different spin on his song, too, but his voice isn't the soaring instrument that Adam has. I liked Allison though her song was pretty standard. Danny had a solid vocal, but I continue to be a bit less enthusiastic about him that the judges. (I still think he's Adam's major competition in the finals, and if not him, Kris.) Lil was awful, Matt sang many of the harmony parts rather than the top line melody on "Stayin' Alive." Anoop flattened out at the end of his rendition.

Broadway to Dim Its Lights April 21 in Honor of Late Lighting Designer Tharon Musser
How appropriate

Many many moons ago, back before his ever lovin' Joe, or my Vixdad ever appeared on the scene WFO took me to see Karen Akers (this was back before she appeared in the original Broadway Cast of NINE ) in a cabaret wher she sang a song he had translated for her
My faulty brain cannot now remember the song (could it be Fly to Caraccas?) and what languages he translated it from and to but I remember her wonderful voice and the great show she put on.
WFO has introduced me to many a wonderful thing over the years, including this here site!
-
Tonight's Cheyenne had Van Williams as a guest star. I might have to make a copy and send that one to JRand.
-
I have tonight's RESCUE ME and Monday night's HEROES to watch still. One will be during lunch tomorrow (likely RESCUE ME), and the other will be for tomorrow night after I finish my work project.

HMMM so maybe I can buy the $25 tickets and bring one more girl!

I was surprised to see that the revival of Equus did not receive any major nominations in the Outer Critics award.
I though that at least with all the male nudity of Broadway this past season that Daniel Radcliffe would at least be nominated for Best Performance by a Penis

We were at a family reunion near Indianapolis over the weekend. We waved, JRand, when we drove through your town.
Here is the moving walkway in the new Indianapolis airport. This airport is so new that the talking GPS we got the day before the trip didn't know where the airport was.

It's an unfounded rumor that this was Tharon Musser's last project.
Speaking of Tharon Musser, does the traditional tribute of dimming the lights on Broadway strike anyone else as an odd way of honoring her?
I did think it was an interesting way to honor her, even if it is the traditional way to honor someone on Broadway.

That's not even groan-worthy.
And if such a category did exist, I believe that would have gone to Ben Daniels for his appearance in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. -Although, I guess that would have been for last season.

It's been a good season for plays, so the snubbing of Equus was not really a surprise. It was also "overlooked" in the Drama Leagues nominations which were announced today.

Did you even see this production, DR Michael S?

Unfortunatly no. I was unable to get to NYC to see it during its run.
I have only seen Equus as a film. I don't think it completely succeeded in its translation. I suspect it works better as a play and in case any one is thinking it. I don't see a play or a movie because it has nudity in it.
I thought that the play and actors received good reviews so I was surprise that it was shut out. But this past year seemed to be an unsually play heavy (a good thing) year so I guess there will be plays left out. (Also the production has closed so that doesn't help)

Well it is off to bed.
I have a busy day tomorrow.
I have to go to work and prepare for my trip to Canada.
-
Well, we're schedule to perform for the Rotary Club at 7:30am... Which means I have to be there at 7:00... Thankfully, their hall is only five minutes from my apartment here in Charleston... However, I need to be up no later than 6:00am... So...
Goodnight.

Heading down to bed myself.
Good night!

How are you doing tonight, Vixmom?

Here is that picture I mentioned a while back - the Vixter with Sean Astin at ICON

How are you doing tonight, Vixmom?
Good, except I slept so much during the day I am not sleepy now - it is 12:17 so I really should be trying to get to sleep so I don't get my days and nights mixed up again
-
Shoot, that picture threw us into wide screen - I thought Photobucket did the automatic resizing thing
-
She is wearing a wig and mask and costume --- it's an anime thing
-
I enjoyed Aint's Misbehavin tonight.
-
They announced the 2009-2010 Broadway at the Orpheum season. It's the following
CRY BABY
WIZARD OF OZ
RAIN
DROWSY CHAPERONE
AVENUE Q
and CATS (apparently this was supposed to be MOVIN OUT, but the tour was cancelled.)
Don't know quite what I think of it. They are all one nighters and apparently The Wizard of Oz is the only equity tour. I didn't know there was going to be an equity tour of Wizard of Oz
-
I did buy a ticket for 4 of the shows (all but RAIN and CATS). Has anyone seen RAIN? Is it worth seeing? I should add that I'm really sickof the 60s and 70s right now. of course that could change between now and then

VIBES TO ALL WHO NEED THEM ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Night
-
Back from the commentary session and have finally answered all e-mails and whatnot.
-
It was F 91 degrees in Oakland today.
There's not a breeze stirring tonight, either.
I've got FOUR (count 'em FOUR [4]) fans going in my bedroom right now.
It's tolerable enough, I reckon. I should manage to sleep well enough.

How very surprising this is. It's NEWS to me, it is. And yet, it's great. That's GREAT. I don't believe I'd ever have even guessed it if you hadn't said this.
