Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both cherry and ripe, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're on their way to Australia because they can't wait for my shipment of Cherry Ripe to arrive.
-
And the word of the day is: ESTIVAL!
-
Due to an incident 50 years ago involving the consumption of boxes of cherry ripes (which were I believe not obtained in the usual acceptable retail seller/customer manner) a resident of this house can not even look at or smell a cherry ripe without feeling ill. I like cherry ripes and cherry ripe is also an ice-cream variety.
WARNING: Cherry ripe bars show up as a +ve alcohol reading on breath tests. Do not drive after consuming a few cherry ripes. (maybe even one).
-
The cherry ripe advertisement on Australian TV has the record of being the longest running advert ever in this country!
-
I've also ordered bite size Cherry Ripes.
-
WOD:
The Testicle Festival is estival. Apparently.
-
Well, DR JRand56 had quite a romp through these pages yesterday!! :)
Nice photos from the barn, DR JRand56!
-
I worked all day yesterday over at the other house, weeding and pulling up trees since we've had nice good rain and things come up easier.
When I got home at 10PM, the power was out all over our part of the city. It's slowly coming back on, but I have no intenet access. I do, however have a charged up battery and a lot of time to think of the TOD:

bk, they sell Cherry Ripe 3 blocks from my house at the Austrailan Bakery. I will gladly send you Cherry Ripe in exchange for a certain soundtrack...
-
When we got home, we took a walk through the area to see it there was any lightning damage. At the end of the block, a huge old willow oak was struck. It blasted the bark off the tree and across the street. The tree was still standing, but it is split down the middle so I'm sure it will have to come down. Very sad.
The power came back on after we went to bed. I was happy to hear our window air conditioner kick on!
-
Continued power vibes to Edi
-
Now I have a lot of catching up to do...
-
Mr Merlin the Cat thanks DR DAKOTA CELT.
Thanks, DR SINGDAW. It's actually a nice production. Amy had a vision for her show that was interesting and she and her cast all followed thru on it from beginning to end. She has a live music combo playing some fiddle and guitar and the lighting is quite nice as well.
The kids tend to talk too fast making it hard to understand them sometimes, but at least the play doesn't drag!!

Last night (it wasn't planned) I went to see the new Die Hard. I highly recommend it. It was exciting, literally on the edge of your seat action/adventure/thriller. Even if the plot and some of the stunts were over the top; who cares. I really got my money's worth. of all the films I have seen so far this summer season this was the best.
Better than Harry Potter, Transformers, Ratatouille and whatever else I've seen.
-
BK ~ About Mickey Rouke's face, I read that he's had work done trying to repair major damage from his days of boxing .. he doesn't even look like the same guy, which makes me sad cuz I always thought he was good-lookin'/attractive in that sexy "bad boy" way ...

Better than 1408?!

Good morning!
Too bad I couldn't have waited to mow the grass this morning since it was cool enough to have made it comfortable to carry out such a dreaded chore. But, it will heat back up today as it always does in July. It's the nature of the beast.
-
A Mike, A Matt and An ELmo -- mornin' boys!
-
Good morning, all! I should be in Toyland this morning, but around 7 am, after two painful hours with a charley horse in my left calf, I sent an email cancelling the morning session. I am now hobbling about the apartment and praying that whatever malnourishment or plague causing the damned situation is over.
I shall spend the morning with a chart for Mr Spirtas, and then I may follow the example of DR MBarnum and nap.
-
I'll probably break into the first seasons of either MOONLIGHTING or VERONICA MARS to begin my viewing this afternoon. Then, later today I will watch RENAISSANCE - PARIS 2054, what looks like a kind of animé with Daniel Craig voicing the lead role. It's rated R, too, so that makes it something different for me to watch.
I also have BAGHDAD CAFE which I want to watch.
-
Still only on page 1?! You'd think it was a Sunday morning or something ...(BK reference)
-
Good morning, Miss Karen. I'm on the forum a bit earlier than usual, but I didn't find a lot in the Sunday paper to keep me occupied.

"Charlie Horse (and any other unwanted Charlies) Be Gone" Vibes to DR ELmo!

As for TV, nothing on tonight for me but ENTOURAGE which I'll probably record and just stay with DVDs all day.

Well, you're in the right place, DR Matt, for the latest, fast breaking news -- you don't need no stinkin' papers, TVs nor radios when you got HHW ... ;)

Page 2!!!

That saves bk from wasting a post on "Will we ever get to page 2?"
-
You're welcome, BK ... and now I gotta scram. Happy Sunday, all you HHWers!
-
Better than 1408?!
Haven't seen it.
-
Off to work.
-
I haven't had a chance to read much over the last two days, so I'm heading down earlier than usual this morning to do some reading. Then, it's on to lunch preparation, doing laundry, and beginning today's viewing.
WBBL.
-
And the word of the day is: ESTIVAL!
Morgaine, who practically LIVES AT any Renaissance Faire she comes upon, found her ESTIVAL ramblings sullied when the Lansing, Michigan Faire was held next to the city dump - the experience SAT VILE in her memory for years to come.

I hear the view from the fire escape is lovely. Of course, if you're napping there, you probably won't be taking in the view.
-
We have ripe cherries available at the store.
They're pricy.

Estival's Space Age Bachelor Pad Music would have been a perfect answer for yesterday's TOD.
-
Good morning crazies and studlies and pixies and vixens.... (I think that pretty well covers most folks here....)
Good morning Elmo, you dear talented man......by the way, did I ever tell you that you are right on the verge of being "scary smart" in the vastness of your musical knowledge?? Another scary person is Jose.....incredible amount of knowledge about so many diverse subjects. When I'm with the 2 of you, I feel like I never graduated from second grade.
And that was a compliment by the way! :)

I fear you vastly exaggerate! Our DR Jose is the talented one.

"..... and now, on this exclusive offer only on television, you too can learn to play genuine Hassidic guitar just like Estival. Learn the secrets of the "bent minor thirds" of klezmer, the sensual and frenzied rhythms of the Hora, and how to make only 4 measures of music last for the entire 12 days!."
"Order right now, and you'll also receive our special gift, the "Bris Buddy." In between playing gigs, you can help out your Moyl with this space-age device (9 D cell batteries not included).
Remember..... this offer is only available from Estival, and is only offered to residents of Hainesville. (prices slightly higher in Studio City).
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm being nice... Providing helpful hints on how to properly defrost the hamburgers... How to set up the kitchen counter for when the guests start arriving... Etc., etc., etc...
-
But you're the pretty one.
Oh no dear Larry... I do not exaggerate at all......
And Jo jo.... I thought you told me I was the pretty one?.... (sniff...) ???

Good morning.
That is all.

DR MusicGuy - ;D

Hi Mikey.... I hope your "yaking" is feeling splendid and supple this morning! :)

Well, you're the prettier other pretty one! In Pink!
-
'Tis time to get to work, already?
Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever heard of a cabaret duo named Wayne and Brenda?
(The Visa ad, featuring the music to the song "Brazil," has brought to mind a parody they used to sing, "Brassiers.")
(Brassiers
They're on the second floor at Sears
They're hanging from the chandeliers
Covered with sticky finger smears
Brassiers
At Sears....)
(And so forth...)

No more hobbling vibes fore DR Elmore!

Oh, phewww... I feel so much better now. But yes, dear Elmo wears much cuter caps and has a smile that could light the Palace Theatre !
-
They had small charcoal grills hanging from chandeliers?!?!?!?
;)
-
And now I have to start back into some more packing and sorting. I'm slowly working my way through an awful lot of stuff, and as long as I just keep doing a little each day, I don't get overwhelmed.
I'll check back in later.........hugs to all.....
-
But I just saw that dear Jason had popped in, so I have to send a "happy Sunday morning hug" to sweetie-Jason.
-
And Jo jo.... I thought you told me I was the pretty one?.... (sniff...) ???
What am I...chopped liver? ;)
-
You wish to go to the estival...? The estival!? The king's estival?!?!
-
I need to leave for the theatre in 25 minutes, and one of my roommates is in the shower. And has been for about 20 minutes already. Color me displeased. (Is that a word? It doesn't look "right.")
Part of me doesn't want to work two shows today. Oh...it's the part of me that wants to go back to bed...
-
In any case...
I did hear my radio/alarm when it went off at 6:30, and I almost did get out of bed, but then... The next thing I knew, it was 10:45, so... Ah, well... I guess I shall have to be Mr. Anti-Social tonight when I get back from my matinee, as I really do have a bunch of things to organize in my room, and pack for my trip down to VA tomorrow morning.

Well, I should get ready to head in myself...
Laters...

I guess the reviews of GYPSY will be in tomorrow's papers. Both Brantley and Isherwood were there yesterday, apparently (Brantley at the matinee, Isherwood in the evening). I assume that means Brantley will review it.

But you're the pretty one.
Oy!

-
Well, I'm out of my shower... I hope that DR Jason's roommate has also come and gone by now.
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, since my matinee is not until 3:00, and I don't want to get to the theatre before 2:00, I believe I shall take the next hour here getting things sorted in my room. Sounds like a plan. An oft-delayed and oft-put-off plan, but a plan nonetheless. So...

As I told Bk, we've had to sit on this info pending its seeming like it's going to be possible, but Last Starfighter was offered a production slot at NYMF this year - we had been offered a production spot last year, but creative team logistics had been such that we ended up doing a NYMF reading (which co-presented with Seattle's Village Theatre, and which featured a wonderful performance by BK) rather than a NYMF production last year. It seems that we have until tomorrow to give NYMF the final commitment as to whether we can make it all come together, but a very favorable factor for us is that Last Starfighter wouldn't be starting until Sept. 28th, when Brain from Planet X will be just a day or two before the end of its run. So we wouldn't be competing with each other, plus the tones of the two shows are so different even though both involve sci-fi and aliens.
-
Sunday
morning greetings! How did it get to be after noon already? Oh, guess I slept late ('til after 9am) and have been very groggy all morning. Must be due to the Zyrtec that I took right after dinner last night - it really knocked me out. Or maybe it was the movie DS Rob thought I'd enjoy - Lady in the Water (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452637/). Zzzzzzzz!
-
I awoke to an e-mail refunding my paypal payment for Cherry Ripe. It seems they don't ship those anymore and haven't removed it from their website. However, I went to eBay and ordered a box from there - same price, and now presumably those will be winging their way to me.
-
Edisaurus, haven't forgotten about Dr. T - be patient and you will be happier than if I just send you what I have right now. Enigmatic me?
-

No way! No way!
OK...it looks like I really AM going to miss my friend's wedding and the Rescued Animals benefit in NC. STARFIGHTER is the tipping point!
-
Hello, HHW! Like GINNY, I'm wondering how it got to be past noon.
I was luxuriating in having a Sunday morning to myself--no Marvelous Matt today--when, out of the blue, the urge to be productive overcame my desire to be lazy! Where'd THAT come from?! I threw on some old jeans and an even older tee-shirt and went out to the garden. I took another pass at the weeding and pruning. Poor, neglected garden! I used to take such good care of it. No more. Too much else on my plate. I AM trying to catch up, though.
As a result, my shoulders are now quite sore and achy. Ugh!
-
Edisaurus, haven't forgotten about Dr. T - be patient and you will be happier than if I just send you what I have right now. Enigmatic me?
I am bringing Cherry Ripes to NY for you. The bakery even makes a Cherry Ripe slice (pastry). Tomovoz could probably tell us if it's any good. It looks to be the a cousin of what some Aussies call a "snot block".
I officially will cease nagging! :D Thank you, thank you, thank you!
-
I ordered a little 5,000 Fingers poster for my new editing room. Wall real estate is at a premium there, so I hope I can find a spot for it!
-
Here's a mathematical formula I don't understand...we're moving into a slightly larger house, but will have to get rid of quite a bit of furniture. No room for it! I guess it can go in storage right now.
And no, just because I'm thinking about this stuff doesn't mean we're getting close to moving. But the house is looking good and my mom even approved my paint colors yesterday.
-
Edi, sorry to hear about the lightning-damaged oak tree. I hate to see old trees come down. Too bad it wasn't the developer's condo instead! (Not that I'd wish any harm to those living there.)
-
I have a 5000 Fingers official bracelet from the time of release of the film.
-
Shares available.
-
Will we never get to page four?
-
Congrats to FJL and Skip on LAST STARFIGHTER! I hope we'll be able to hear some of the play-by-play as you cast and otherwise get ready for the production.
-
DR FJL - that is fanTAStic news about The Last Starfighter! Looks like the late Sept-early Oct trip I'm planning for DH Richard and myself will be a NYMF adventure!
Along those lines, have any New Yorkers had any experience with this website (http://www.sublet.com)? We are seriously interested in finding an apartment to rent for the week (Sept 29-Oct 7). Booking online into the hotel which has been such a bargain for us in the past would cost almost $2,400. That hotel was a good buy when it was under $200/night, but not at more than $300!
-
No way! No way!

Edi, sorry to hear about the lightning-damaged oak tree. I hate to see old trees come down. Too bad it wasn't the developer's condo instead! (Not that I'd wish any harm to those living there.)
Yes, I had a ginormous (a Websters officially sanctioned word) oak tree, one of the largest and oldest in Marietta, 15 feet incurcumference, split by lightning years ago. We discovered that it had been split before and was hollow inside. It split immediately after this happened.
My neighbor's tree is still standing, but I hope they will take it down soon, as it's split right down the middle and the idiot city tree pruners cut back so many branches from the power lines that all of our big oak trees are weighted very heavily towards the houses. One strong wind and his house could be history.
It's weird seeing this huge patch of bark-free tree. It's so clean and beautiful and smooth. :'(
The condo was without power, too, so no elevator service for them. They had to use the stairs, like us mortals.

I know! The Edison is really expensive at that time, too. Is that because of the festival or is that normal for this time of year?
-
Somehow, I'm thinking that Cherry Ripe tastes better than Cherry Tripe.
-
DR Edi - see you in NYC!
I get to meet Ginny! I get to meet Ginny! And Richard!
And Sing, too!
-
But I could be wrong.
-
Somehow, I'm thinking that Cherry Ripe tastes better than Cherry Tripe.
I'm sure someone has tried it...maybe on Iron Chef?
-
Fred, do you know the actual dates for Starfighter?
-
Can't wait to meet you too, DR Edisaurus!

Everything, hotel-wise, seems to be pricey and/or already booked. I do think late September/early October is the beginning of one of the "high" seasons.
-
Let's not forget DR Noel's Such Good Friends in NYMF, too!
-
Wow---I knew they had promo beenies for Dr. T, but I've never heard of the bracelets. I wonder if it was something for the "girls", since they weren't likely to wear beenies?
-

You mean we have to smoke pot, too?
-
Let's not forget DR Noel's Such Good Friends in NYMF, too!
Of course!
I need to get all the dates and then strategize. I'd love to take my mom, but I know Greg wants to see STARFIGHTER and BRAIN, but may not feel comfortable sharing a hotel room with mom. Hmmmmm...
-
Now to tackle more housework!
I'll have to catch up to yesterday's posts later...
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, I made some progress in my room... That's good. :)
-
As for Fall hotel rates in NYC... Fall Fashion Week, and the beginning(!) of the Christmas Shopping Season (Yes, it starts that early now). So... Fall is also a major tourist season - especially since a lot of people tend NOT to come in August. The next "slow season" will not be until January.
-
DR FJL - Great News!
-
And now time to head to the theatre to get reacquainted with the Key 2 book - I've been on Key 3 the past two shows - and I have some weird tightness in my right hand that I need to work out. I think I slept on it. :-\
In any case...
Laters...
-
Edi - It'll be confirmed tomorrow as to whether we can even make it work, but it would be six performances over the period Fri Sept. 28 through Sun. Oct. 7.
Thanks, all, for the good wishes.
-
DR FJL - I know you'll post firm dates once everything is confirmed, for those of us who wish to strategize to see all 3 shows! :)
-
Let's not forget DR Noel's Such Good Friends in NYMF, too!
Yes, let's not :D.
Such Good Friends has been awarded an Anna Sosenko Trust grant. Very excited about that.
I'm thrilled The Last Starfighter is joining The Brain From Planet X and Such Good Friends in NYMF. Returning to HainesHisWay after all these years was prompted by a desire to compare and contrast NYMF experiences, and the more the merrier.
And, you know, I've long loved Skip and valued his avuncular influence on me when I was a very young musical theatre writer. He was good enough to attend my Area 51 - The Musical eight years ago, a sci-fi spoof with singing aliens and a three-and-a-half star general.
But nobody should think I'm put off when other musical writers follow in my footsteps. Happens constantly. This year alone:
John Kander, Rupert Holmes and the late Fred Ebb and Peter Stone premiered a musical in which a performer gets murdered while performing a show. The detective who arrives is more interested in fixing the show than solving the crime. Murder at the Savoy premiered 26 years ago, and has since had four productions in Britain, including last summer.
Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's latest was about that rarest of birds, the female pirate, just like my The Pirate Captains which began a long tour in 1994.
Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's new musical is about a troupe of Commedia Dell'Arte Players, as was the show Tony Kushner and I did in 1983, The Heavenly Theatre.
That's just the way it is with musicals: a fast-talking charlatan blows in to town and romances a stand-off-ish spinster. Now, did you think of The Music Man, 110 in the Shade or something else?
-

Fred, how exciting. How awesome would that be to have both shows in the Festival (or Estival)? Lots and lots of positive vibes to you and Skip.

Noel-Congratulations on the grant.
FJL-Congrats on the offer, decision making vibes.

elmore-I do hope your charlie horse is better. Did you wrap it in warm towels?
My idea of heaven is not dragging a hot towel around! I did not, Nursie. DR Jose thinks I need a vitamin B supplement. It think it's genetic malnourishment from my Appalachian white trash roots.
DR Noel, good for the grant!
DR FJL, wow! Who don't I know at NYMF this year? Tell Skip I'm very happy for him and for you. Perhaps BK can stay and reprise his role?
And I forgot to add that I just answered the phone and heard from a dear friend I've not seen in about four years, since he left the City. He's now in Louisville, and it was great to catch up. The next time I'm in Ohio, I think I will drive down to visit.
-
DRelmore, a hot towel might have relaxed the charlie horse much faster.
-
This morning we took Sherlock to play with his friend Maia, also a Bernese Mountain Dog. The last time he saw Maia she was bigger than he was, no longer. She is now a dainty girl compared to our big boy. He also met Emme, Maia's 5 month old sister.
I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the three of them playing, it was very cute. I didn't take my camera figuring her son would take pictures, but he was still sleeping.
-
Hello Julie.
WELCOME TO HHW! [/size]

The NYMF is turning into a mini HHW Estival!

Cherry Ripe. Getchur Cherry Ripe. Cherry Ripe right here! Getchur Cherry Ripe.
Okay, here's my money.
Oh, I don't have any Cherry Ripe.
-
Wonderful news from DRNOEL and from DR FJL....musical wise.....
-
Things are a bit slow here right now at World of Wisdom.....but I expect improvement shortly...oh yes I expect improvement.
-
Noel - Congrats on your award.
I remember Skip having seen your show AREA 51 (he went with your mutual friend Nina), which I think was in early 2000. But to put your mind at ease, we had the rights to adapting the screenplay to the 1984 film THE LAST STARFIGHTER for a while before that, with the contract for the rights having actually been signed in April 1999, and inquiry letters and negotiations going back to 1996. Plus we're not a spoof. Hope that info helps :)
-
Hi, Julie!
-
He was good enough to attend my Area 51 - The Musical eight years ago, a sci-fi spoof with singing aliens and a three-and-a-half star general.
Wow... you're that Noel Katz?? As a lurker, up until a few days ago, I couldn't access people's profiles so I didn't know your last name...and I just didn't connect who you were.
Cool!
-
DR Elmore - Richard takes calcium supplements to alleviate leg-cramping at night. Just don't take quinine - that almost killed his older brother several years ago!
Speaking of calcium, that's one of the things on our Sam's Club shopping list for today.
Bye for now!
-
DR Elmore - Richard takes calcium supplements to alleviate leg-cramping at night.
I've heard that eating an occasional banana helps, too. And that is NOT a euphemism!
-
***CONGRATULATIONS*** on your grant, DR Noel...fantastic!
-
Will we never get to page four?
I'm sure it will happen.
-
Clouding up right now, and I hear thunder in the distance. That could mean rain or the clouds may pass over before they dump moisture on us. We'll see.
-
DRelmore, a hot towel might have relaxed the charlie horse much faster.
Nursie, you'll have to fly to New York and help me. I need your medical assistance!
-
I didn't have a DVD cued up in the player while I was preparing lunch, so I flipped on HBO-HD, and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA was being reshown, so I watched it from the point where I joined it (when Emily gets hit by the car) until the end. Always enjoyable.
-
I opened the season 1 & 2 set of MOONLIGHTING, and put in the first disc. I didn't want to watch the pilot, so I started with the second episode. In this one, David and Maddie think they're searching for the long-lost son of a hit man. It ends up not about that at all, but it's an enjoyable show. Tim Robbins, looking about 16, played a young hit man out to get the old hit man who made the request of the detectives.
-
I watched another MOONLIGHTING episode on disc 1, this one dealing with the search for a leak at an electronics firm who's trying to perfect a laser rifle for use with the military. Cotter Smith, who also looks like he's in his mid-20s in this, was a main guest star. He continues to appear as a guest star on all the top TV shows today.
-
I next watched the first part of the "maing of" documentary on the MOONLIGHTING DVD set. They did get Willis and Shepherd to talk as well as Alyce Beasley and Glen Gordon Caron in mentioning how the show came to be and especially how they had to fight for ABC to allow Bruce Willis to be cast since the head of ABC did not like him. Watching the show now, it's inconceivable how someone couldn't be amused and charmed by his looks and delivery.

Hello everyone.
Hello DR Jane. Thank you so much for the welcome.
This is my first post on the board. I just joined today, after lurking for about two weeks or so. I could no longer resist not posting!
I'm really glad to be joining all of you, and look forward to being a part of your lively and wonderful discussions.
I already know some of you. DR FJL is a very dear friend, and through him I have had the pleasure of meeting DR elmore, DR Jose, and DR Rodzinski. I even met BK once for about 30 seconds when he was doing the Last Starfighter reading with Fred and Skip. I hope to meet more of you in the future.
Julie

Since I wanted to watch BAGHDAD CAFE in one sitting, and I didn't have enough time in the afternoon viewing slot to watch it all, I elected to put in BATMAN BEGINS and watch that again which I'll finish when I go back down. Looks like BAGHDAD CAFE won't get watched until tomorrow since I want to get RENAISSANCE watched tonight, and since it's black and white, I wanted to wait until the room could be completely dark to better be able to juge black and white levels, etc.
-
Welcome to our little family, DR Julie. Hope to get to know you better over the coming weeks.
-
Thanks, Fred!
And I am so happy for you about the NYMF invite.
I hope you hear good news and it all comes together tomorrow.
-
Thanks for the welcome, Matt.
Looking forward to getting to know you, too.
I'm off in a little while to go catch the final performance of Bajour, part of the Musicals in Mufti series at the York Theater.
-
DR Julie, welcome! It's so good to see you here.
DRs, Julie is one of the absolute best; I'm one of her biggest fans. In a word, she's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
-
Well, the rain did arrive although it was a gentle shower, at least so far. It's still thundering out there, so I suppose a harder downpour could come up any time.
-
With it gently raining now, I think I'll lie down for a bit and then when I get back up, I can clean the master bathroom and then get back to viewing this evening.
WBBL.
-
Congratulations Skip and Fred. Wonderful news.
-
Welcome to new DR Julie. DR stands for "Dear Reader."
We are glad you decided to jump in and join us!
-
Cherry Ripe.
Cherry ripe, cherry ripe,
Ripe I cry,
Full and fair ones
Come and buy.
Cherry ripe, cherry ripe,
Ripe I cry,
Full and fair ones
Come and buy.

Welcome DR Julie.
-
Hello, Jose!
-
BK ~ About Mickey Rouke's face, I read that he's had work done trying to repair major damage from his days of boxing .. he doesn't even look like the same guy, which makes me sad cuz I always thought he was good-lookin'/attractive in that sexy "bad boy" way ...
Ditto.
I love his look in RUMBLE FISH.
-
But you're the pretty one.
I'd say it's a toss-up!
-
BIG CONGRATS ON STARFIGHTER!
-
Welcome DR Julie!
-
Well, if we're talking about beginnings, the screenplay that morphed into The Brain From Planet X was actually written in the early 90s, and long before that we'd had a singing alien in The Creature Wasn't Nice. There are no original ideas - just variations of old ideas.
What fun NY will be in September!
-
Had an interesting rehearsal with Miss Ryan. I brought along Miss Patti to assist me and to take notes. Even having one new person in the room immediately caused her to begin "pushing" in her opening number. She calmed down after that, and because I give notes after each act, her act two was much better - in fact, I had very few notes in act two - she just has to learn the patter - she keeps missing the jokes because she paraphrases so far away from the setups that she can't get back. And again, incorrect blocking on way too many things. Well, we'll work tomorrow and Tuesday evening, and then have about twenty people in on Wednesday night - after that, I'll know exactly what's in store and how tough I have to be. I think when she gets her laughs and gets reactions, that everything will settle down and she'll be wonderful.
-
I wrote the important letter I had to draft and sent it off via e-mail.
-
I had some pizza after rehearsal. And now, it's four o'clock already (and why are we still on page six). So, guess I'll watch a motion picture, then package up a couple of things, then watch another motion picture.
-
Did I miss a new dear reader? Who is Julie? Did I miss a post? Someone point me to it, please.
-
Welcome seventeen GUESTS. Shares available. Take a flyer - have some fun!
-
Welcome new DR Julie!!! You will like it here!
-
It is very muggy today, and cloudy. I used that as an excuse to do very little of anything today. LOL!
I did transfer some episodes of the old tv show HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE to DVDr. That show has a great cast...Merry Anders, Lori Nelson, Barbara Eden, and Lisa Gaye...but the writing is horrible...and some of the cast (I won't name any names) really, really over act!
And yet I still want more episodes.
-
I've looked in vain for posts from Julie, and yet I see she made three of them - what page are they on?
-
And now on to Bollywood movie of the weekend number two...SAWAN KI GHATA...a romantice comedy/drama from 1966. Very colorful and fun so far.
Stars Manoj Kumar (the hero in GUMNAAM), Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, and Pran.

Just one page back BK, page 5.
-
Ah. Welcome new dear reader Julie and welcome to the madhouse!
-
Isn't that fascinating - from seventeen GUESTS to two GUESTS in about two minutes. Hmmmm.
And I forgot to mention that a merry searcher was here searching for a certain record label name. Hmmmmm.
-
Welcome, DR Julie!!! Glad to have you with us. I think I almost met you in Westport some months back during All About Us. I missed your madcap dash to the train. :) Or maybe was the cause of it.
In any case, it's wonderful that you're here!
-
CHERRY RIPE!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDZbiulzjbs)
-
Well, as JR will attest (since he sent me several examples of corny 50s sci-fi dialogue years ago), apparently quite a few of us have written sci-fi spoof musicals.
-
And we don't even want to start on how many people have written Reefer Madness musicals. ::)
-
CHERRY RIPE!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDZbiulzjbs)
This may be the television ad that DR Tomovoz was speaking of earlier...
-
And we don't even want to start on how many people have written Reefer Madness musicals. ::)
Well, they say "Write what you know..."
-
I've not seen that ad. before!
-
Well, they say "Write what you know..."
My collaborator often spoke of his "field research." I knew better than to ask. 8)
-
Good Evening!
Well... This was what I tried to post earlier:
Good Evening!
Greetings from the 5th Avenue Apple Store in NYC! It's a bit busy, a bit noisy, and very hustley-bustley, but it's the 5th Avenue Apple Store in NYC, so it's supposed to be.
Of course, their internet connection seems to be going in and out right now, hmm....
Obviously, the internet connection at the Apple Store went down for a few seconds. Although, I think it was just too many users trying to access the node. In any case... I'm back at the apartment... And there's a party going on in the other room... :-\
-
Catching up...
Hello, td!
-
Why would anyone want to spoil a perfectly good chocolate bar by putting fruit in the middle? ;)
-
Welcome to the board, DR Julie!
-I was going to go to Bajour tonight too, but there's just too many things I need to take care of before I head out of town tomorrow morning, so... Ah, well. I await your report.
-
Good Evening!
I think it was just too many users trying to access the node.
Isn't that Elmore's area of expertise?
-
Actually, I think I can get Cherry Ripe bars at For the Love of Chocolate in Richmond. And since I'll be in Richmond tomorrow... Hmmm... :)
-
fruit in the middle?
The title of my next novella? 8)
-
Isn't that Elmore's area of expertise?
No, no, no. In DR elmore's case, it's too many users trying to access the nude.
-
Of course, the filling of Cherry Ripe bars is primarily made of coconut. Go figure.
-
No, no, no. In DR elmore's case, it's too many users trying to access the nude.
ROTFLMAO
-
So, DR JoseSPiano, hope the pit "regulars" are treating you as one of their own by now... :)
Is the "Paul monologue pigout" a continuing tradition?

This ACL really is different!
-
DR JoseSPiano, is that real time from the next room?
-
If so, it looks like your roommate didn't have to worry so much about the food preparation...
-
...so long as the bar was well-stocked.
-
So, DR JoseSPiano, hope the pit "regulars" are treating you as one of their own by now... :)
Is the "Paul monologue pigout" a continuing tradition?
As for the regulars... Well, a good chunk of them are on leave for a few weeks since they're playing Gypsy over at City Center (under the baton of ACL's MD, Patrick Vaccariello). However, the regulars and semi-regulars that are there have welcomed me with open arms, and open boxes of cookies and pastries. :)
As for the "Paul monologue pigout", well, lately it seems that we starting snacking before the show, then during the show, then during Paul's monologue, then after the show. And when I'm on Key 2, I'm actually done a good two minutes earlier than everyone else, so, if the mood strikes me - and it usually does - then I go ahead and snack then.
*Today's Treat: Fluffer Nutter Bars. YUM!!!!!
-
DR JoseSPiano, is that real time from the next room?
Thankfully, no it is not. Most of the guests seem to be hanging out in the backyard area - thankfully, the rain has held off so far. And I believe there are more boys/men here than there are in that picture. Alas, I think all the guys that are here are straight - which is OK. And most of them have girlfriends - which is OK too. And some of the guys are cute too - which is OK. However...
The "vibe" of the party is one of "let's get drunk/trashed/bombed" - which is not the kind of party I like. Consequently, a couple of the guys seem to be over-compensating in regards to their "stud/macho" factor. Ehh... -And if I hear, "Come on! It's time for another shot of tequila!" one more time, well...
So, I'm in my room, with the A/C running, and I'm also doing some laundry and reading and posting here.
-
That is probably safer... :)
-
Time to walk the dog.
And that is NOT a euphemism.
-
They had small charcoal grills hanging from chandeliers?!?!?!?
;)
Dang spellchecker.
::)
-
If so, it looks like your roommate didn't have to worry so much about the food preparation...
Well... I think she did "wish" that 50 people were coming. Or at least 20 people with MAJOR appetites. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce is gone - and was quite good - but there's a tray of cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob waiting to be consumed. And from what I could tell, only ONE of the six bags of potato chips has been opened, and there's even at least two cases worth of beer still in the coolers. -Of course, some of her friends brought their own libations, and some even bought their own food for the grill - more hamburgers and hotdogs, but these ones are organic. -Although, I believe the ones that my roomie got from Fresh Direct were organic also. Ah, well.
-I suspect the fridge will end up fuller than it was when the party started. And I also suspect that a bunch of food will be going to waste, and/or will still be in the fridge when I get back from Virginia on Friday.
-
Dang spellchecker.
::)
Well, I guess it's more of a case of a "homonym checker". Sort of.
-
...so long as the bar was well-stocked.
So, far - two bottles of Jim Bean, one bottle of Maker's Mark, and a bottle of Patron have been placed in the recycling bin. Many more are bound to follow over the next couple of hours.

Baby, back
Dressed in black
Silver buttons all down her back
High hose, tippy toes
She broke the needle and she can sew
Walking the dog
I'm just a walking the dog
If you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog
C'mon now c'mon
I asked her mother for fifteen cents
I see you ever jumped the fence
I jumped so high, touched the skies
Didn't get back 'til a quarter to five
Walking the dog
I'm just a walking the dog
If you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog
C'mon c'mon now
Tell me mary, what's your twelve
How does your garden grow
What with silver bells and cockle shells
And pretty maids all in a row
Walking the dog
I'm just a walking the dog
If you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog
C'mon now c'mon

DR Noel - Congrats on the grant.

Nursie, you'll have to fly to New York and help me. I need your medical assistance!
:D
I do know something about leg & foot cramps, many a night my screams of pain have woken Keith ;D
-
OK... First load of laundry in the dryer.
And now I'm having a piece of birthday cake - Devil's Food with Chocolate Icing. Pretty good. Although, watching the girls - the drunk girls - trying to slice the cake was somewhat "entertaining".
-
DR Julie. We are all very pleased you have decided to join us, especially now that I know DR elmore thinks you are the best. I’m sure he recognizes his own kind.
Do you have any pets?

Singdaw-The Cherry Ripe commercial was cute, thank you.

I like Cybill Shepherd's version of "Walking the Dog."

Congrats to DR Noel on the grant!
Yay, I get to see The Last Star Fighter! Congradulations!
This weeked I went to the Glendale theater in-the-round to see a community theater version of Hello Dolly!
I liked it, the main players were all strong, although the chorus was bland and concentrating on the dancing more than just having fun, which was distracting. I sat in the front row and Dolly Levi handed me one of her cards :)
My mom and I just listened to Liz Callaway's "The Beat Goes On", and now we are playing Sally Mayes's "The Story Hour"

This sounds like the Glendale Center Theater (http://www.glendalecentretheatre.com/index.asp). It's been there for practically forever.
It's in walking distance from Bookfellas, our esteemed BK's favorite place to read from his own novels.

DR Elmore, how is your cramped up leg?

Miss Karen, if you would have the decency to live in New York (as Julie does), these flowers would be bothering your sinuses instead of mine and that big box o' chocolates would have given you adolescent-worthy acne instead of me. I've put up with your whining, but it's your fault for not being in Manhattan, Miss Blame-it-on-the-World (a Dreamgirls reference)

So, far - two bottles of Jim Bean, one bottle of Maker's Mark, and a bottle of Patron have been placed in the recycling bin. Many more are bound to follow over the next couple of hours.
Honestly, Jose, you shoudn't drink that much alcohol, especially alone in your room.

(in my best whiney voice): Well, I'll be in town for the New York Musical Theatre Estival -- so I expect my hotel room to be filled with flowers and a box of chocolates (with no finger punch marks in any pieces) delivered each day ~

I'd bet the mess will be waiting for our DR Jose on Friday!
-
No one gave me a welcome mat ....
or toaster, or any sort of welcome gift when I joined ... ;)
As I recall, I had to bully you into it.
-
I was reading in the GLORIOUS ONES Playbill from Pittsburgh that Lynn Ahrens actually started working on that Commedia dell'Arte musical (at that time with another collaborator in the BMI Workshop, not with Stephen Flaherty) in 1983. That collaborator subsequently gave Lynn Ahrens her blessing to pick up the project with Stephen Flaherty. So Lynn Ahrens' involvement with adapting a novel about Commedia dell'Arte seems to date back to 1983. Noel, is it possible you were working on your Commedia dell'Arte musical with Tony Kushner around the same time, since yours appears to have first been seen in a university production in December 1983? If so, again, it seems there's no need to be concerned that anyone copied your show's idea. And of course, their show is based on a novel that predated 1983.
-
DR Elmore, how is your cramped up leg?
Much better, thank you. I did miss DR Jose's partay, though, and I didn't get to have a little Mikey nap. I did finish another chart. Two to go!

(With my best Mizz Scarlet accent) Is that a euphemism, dear sir?

I didn't get to have a little Mikey nap.

I am back from:
1) Our semi-annual trip to Sam's Club,
2) Graeter's, where we celebrated National Ice Cream Day,
3) My mom's home at the retirement community, where we delivered the items she asked us to purchase for her at Sam's, and
4) Watching all of the series premiere of Side Order of Life and half of same for State of Mind, both on Lifetime. Neither, I think, is worth planning my Sunday evenings around.
-
Last night (it wasn't planned) I went to see the new Die Hard.
You left out funny. Some of those over the top stunts were fantastic.
We went this afternoon to the 12:50 show which didn't begin until 1:15. I don't know what the problem was, but it appeared the film had unraveled & it took awhile to figure out how to get it back onto the modern day projector (which looked like a big old fashioned camera with a rolling clothesline behind it).
-
and he hails from Deep in the Heart of Texas ... clap, clap, clap, clap!
Oh, Matt-hew McConaughey! I didn't think it looked like Matt Damon
-
DR Cillaliz - to answer your question from last night, no, I didn't hear Garrison Keillor speak at ALA. That morning I had a 3-hour meeting at the Foundation Center-Washington. I did get a report on his speech from author Susan Vreeland, who we met before her program that evening at Chapters: A Literary Bookstore. She was so enthused that she read me all the notes she'd taken at GK's presentation. I'll check the C-Span website to see if they have the program archived there.
-
Oh, Matt-hew McConaughey! I didn't think it looked like Matt Damon
Nor Matt Dillon

It's a little nap during the day. Mikey's seem to last for hours.

She should freeze the hamburgers and hot dogs.
-
WOW~! Totally unexpected developments on The Next Food Network Star!! (Never in my wildest dreams did I think i would be saying that)

From today's NY Times, The Outer Limits comes to DVD (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/15/arts/television/15evan.html?_r=1&oref=slogin).
I thought it already was out on DVD. I've seen it on Amazon because last year I was looking for my favorite episode: "Don't Open Until Doomsday".

Welcome to new DR Julie!

Welcome DR Julie!

Today was the annual theater awards dinner for our city's largest and oldest (The oldest continuing operating community theater west of the Mississippi) theater group. Actually, this was the awards presentation for the past two seasons, since last year's awards were skipped due to upheavals in the Artistic Directorship last summer.
I did not attend the dinner today, because I was not invited - even though I am a nominee. After over 50 years with this theater group, my name has apparently been dropped from the mailing lists due to a personal falling out that I had last year with the man who is the new Artistic Director.
-
I spent lots of time watering the yard today (my system doesn't work, so I stood out there and watered it with the hose) So, hopefully we'll get some rain from the unpredicted thunderstorns. Right now they are North and South of us. We have only had .02 of an inch of rain so far this month and July was dry too. We REALLY need rain
-
DR TCB - Sorry about the conflict within your group. That kind of strife makes my hands break out.

BK ~ About Mickey Rouke's face, I read that he's had work done trying to repair major damage from his days of boxing .. he doesn't even look like the same guy, which makes me sad cuz I always thought he was good-lookin'/attractive in that sexy "bad boy" way ...

Ingrates!
Maybe you should have a native American woman accept the award for you (which you will undoutedly win) and tell them off, a la Marlon Brando.

I've been seeing the promos for the new TNT show, SAVING GRACE, which premieres after THE CLOSER a week from tomorrow and I have to say that Holly Hunter looks different to me, too. Her eyes seem so WIDE now!
I'm interested in seeing how this show will do on TNT. USA Today gave it 3 1/2 stars (out of???) and it's really different from TNT's usual fare. It seems more like a show you'd see on HBO---very "quirky" and more graphic.
-
Well, there are those that deserve to win, and those who...win.
-
That's sad...he was so hot
I am sure that not all of the attributes that Mr. Rourke has shown to the movie-going public have been altered.

Is "Saving Grace" any connection with the quirky and amusing UK film?

Subject: Do You Suffer from Leg Cramps?
On December 11, 2006, the Food and Drug Administration ordered pharmaceutical firms to halt all manufacturing and marketing of unapproved drug products that contain QUININE due to potentially fatal side effects.
There have been 665 reports of severe reactions to QUININE, and 93 people died due to his drug. Some of the most dangerous side effects include:
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelets that causes hemorrhage/clotting problems)
- Severe hypersensitivity reactions
Quinine is also known to interact dangerously with a number of other drugs. There are a number of quinine-containing products sold throughout the United States, but there is only one product currently approved by the FDA.
If you or someone you love has been injured by quinine, you may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering. You must act quickly, for if you hesitate the statute of limitations in your state could affect how long you have to file a lawsuit. Let us help you get the financial reward that could offset your medical bills.
-
Is "Saving Grace" any connection with the quirky and amusing UK film?
I don't think it looks too amusing, but there are some funny lines.
There seem to be a lot of films with the same name, so I'm not sure which is the one you're thinking of. Do you know @ when it was made?
You can read about the TNT one here: http://www.tnt.tv/series/savinggrace/
And here's a photo from the show of Holly. Is it me, or does she look really different? She still looks like she's about a size 1....

DP Colin was taking Quinine tablets (anti Malaria) when he worked in New Guinea. He doesn't get leg cramps.
I do!
One of our most popular soft drinks "solo" contains quinine. (the bitter lemon taste).

Does this mean no more gin and tonics? Damn!
Either that or keep a hot towel handy ....
-
Good Evening!
Well, the big clean up is underway, and I'm not doing any of it! Which is just the way it should be, damnit!
-Of course, that's not to say I may end up having to a little bit of follow-up clean-up, but still...
And at least her boyfriend/lover/paramour is helping her clean up too. Thank heavens for small miracles.
-
In the meantime, the second load of laundry has been put in the dryer.
-
of course it only refers to unapproved drugs in the email!

And here's Brantley's review of Patti LuPone on Gypsy.
What Ever Happened to Momma Rose? (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/16/theater/reviews/16gyps.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)
It's sort of a positive-mixed review. I'm more confused by it than anything else.
-
That should read - The Outer Limits comes to DVD AGAIN.
The first paragraph of the article says "re-released."
"This summer the 49 hourlong episodes are being rereleased on DVD in two-disc batches, as good a way as any to revisit a wildly hit-or-miss series that blended humanist moralizing and cold war paranoia with Golden Age dramaturgy, space age allure and penny arcade Expressionism."
-
Oh... And, yes, there was one girl who was "sick", but, thankfully, she did not make a mess anywhere.
And there was also one guy who got a bad case of cramps in both of his legs, so he ended up lying on the couch for a while. -What is it with leg cramps today? -Of course, he knew he was dehydrated, but he didn't want to drink any water. He only wanted beer. :-\
-
TCB-I am so sorry. I hope you win. Do you have friends there to spread the word you were not invited? Such a petty person.
-
I was reading in the GLORIOUS ONES Playbill from Pittsburgh that Lynn Ahrens actually started working on that Commedia dell'Arte musical (at that time with another collaborator in the BMI Workshop, not with Stephen Flaherty) in 1983.
I don't think DR Noel was concerned about anyone copying his idea..
But nobody should think I'm put off when other musical writers follow in my footsteps. Happens constantly. This year alone:
I think he was just pointing out there really is no truly original plot nowadays - in a good sense - and it just so happens that a few his works have had similar themes with works that have come before him and after him. The originality comes in how the authors choose to tell the tale.
I mean, if we were only restricted to one "Boy meet girl" Plot, well... ;)
-
Thanks, Amy. I guess I am just feeling sorry for myself.
I would feel the same way, you should be there.
-
I didn't recognize Holly Hunter when I first saw the commercial for Saving Grace. It could be the blond hair.
-
Positive mixed review indeed DR Jose. I was lucky enough to see the AL version in London. I truly believed her "Rose". I've seen quite a few others try. It's such a balancing act and requires something truly special - not just a knock-out performance of the songs. On film (despite the fact that I am not a fan usually) I wish Midler had got it right. I still prefer the flawed Ros. film.
In the review there was a mention of "Sliding around the notes" (or something similar). Maybe that's why I do not care for the Star's voice.
-
DR TCB - Well, I bet none of your "colleagues", if they can be called that, had the recent opportunity to see the WSMA in the Las Vegas Phantom, and meet with him after the show.
-
...And I'm sure none of them have a signed 8x10 from another very sexy actor hanging on their walls. :)

"amnetion" - Cool! For a second there, I almost thought that was a real word, sort of related to "enmity". ;)
-And I also wish Midler had gotten it right. However, I think she would have gotten right with a better and stronger director.

Proof reading is something I've never done well. LOL.

Vacation Bible School ended on Friday. Supposedly, we were recreating Galilee at the time Jesus was alive. We failed spectacularly. I was a co-leader of the tribe of Naphtali.
For the past few days, I have been very busy with my Harry Potter read-down, which is like a count-down, but with reading. I've just started Order of the Phoenix.
That's all the news.
-
3D-I don't remember asking if you have any pets, or that you mentioned having any. Do you?
-
Don't like what I'm seeing on the hotel front for the end of September. My rewards points aren't going to help any that week...I may have to wait and see how things are going before I make any plans
-
I suggest we have a pet roll call one of these days.
Good idea. I have two cats, one of whom is asleep near my feet. His name is Rexy a.k.a. Crouton a.k.a. Gina, and for the past few days, he has smelled like Band-Aids. I have no idea why.
My other cat is the lovely lady in my avatar. Her name is Sasha and she is too dignified to smell like Band-Aids.
-
DR Sandra, I'm impressed you are re-reading all the books. I expect the plan is to be have them completed by Friday night. I plan on going on-line for a semi-quick recap.
-
But all the precious children had fun, DR Sandra. Even if we had all the details wrong.
-
I did manage to take about a one hour nap, awakened by the ringing of the telephone. If someone hadn't called, I most certainly would have slept for several hours. I was out cold.
-
I began the evening viewing by watching the remainder of BATMAN BEGINS. Always entertaining and it was nice to see it again.
-
Next, I put in that new Miramax animated film RENAISSANCE. It's kind of a mixture of the motion capture animation of THE POLAR EXPRESS with the graphic novel, highly contrasted look of SIN CITY, all with the feel of BLADE RUNNER.
To say it was unusual is to put it mildly. I have never seen anything quite like it: an animated film noir in every possible way.
-
I like the roll call idea too, I have 2 cats Callie Sue Marie and Boo Boo. Callie is a calico diva who needs meds twice a day. She enjoys bonita flakes and being waited on. Boo Boo is a tuxedo cat who adopted me a little over a year ago. She enjoys playing and playing and playing and sleeping and playing and "hey! why aren't we playing??" She likes to wake me up by purring and curling up with me.
-
I was going to post one of Sherlock's baby photos & discovered Keith never transferred the photos from my old laptop to this new one.
He is blowing his adolescent coat. This morning while I was making the bed there was as much hair to remove as when we had one dog & 4 cats. It almost made me miss the petless days when it only took a minute to make the bed, instead of 10 minutes. ::)
-
Don't like what I'm seeing on the hotel front for the end of September. My rewards points aren't going to help any that week...I may have to wait and see how things are going before I make any plans
Hmm.. Maybe a couple of DRs could share an apartment for the week or so and split the costs. A friend and his partner just came up last week to help a friend who was in town for some medical treatments. They somehow found a very nice temporary apartment on the East Side for only $145/day - which is less than half of what most hotels are going for right now. And it had two bedrooms, and one and a half baths - as well as a full, new kitchen and a balcony(!). I could check to see which company they went through if that option appeals to any DRs.
-
I then watched the "making of" feature that was on the disc. This was a French production, so the documentary was in French with English subtitles. The movie itself was dubbed into English with such people as Daniel Craig, Jonathan Pryce, and Ian Holm in the voice cast list. None of them were featured in the documentary. Instead we see the French actors who were the motion capture models for the animation.
-
For the newbies, I forgot to mention Sherlock will be one year old on July 29th. He is the dog I couldn't resist after saying no more pets. At 100 pounds he is just a big sweet growing boy.
-
Mr. Brantley has indeed written a very strange review. However, I can not believe that Patti was pleased with that review in any way, shape or form.
I was interested to read, in one of the other reviews, that Arthur Laurents had previously forbidden Patti permission to play that role.
-

That's a good idea. I have no problem sharing an apartment or a hotel room with 2 beds, but this sounds better. I'm not sure how long I can stay, but a cheaper room will make it easier to stay a bit longer.
-
Next, I watched tonight's ENTOURAGE with Johnny going to extremes to get a cool hat to youthen his image, and Eric and the director having another public brawl. OK episode, but drug humor just isn't funny to me. I did enjoy Ari and Lloyd's shenanigans.
-
In the meantime, my desk is now clear. More or less. I've sorted out all the junk mail, filed the pay stubs, and organized the bills. -And put a bunch of junk mail in the recycling bin.
And I think I'm just gonna take it nice and easy over the next couple of hours. Heck, I might not even sleep since my train leaves at 6:00am. We'll see. All I have left to do is pack, and make a list - mental or otherwise - of things I want to accomplish while I'm down in Virginia the next couple of days.
-

Safe travel vibes to DR Jose
-
I ended the evening picking another episode from a FRIENDS box set. This time, I chose season 4, and picked the episode where Joey and Chandler get free porn on their cable service and are afraid to turn off the TV for fear of losing it. Phoebe finds out she's having triplets, and Ross declares his love for Emily.
-
I put in the second disc in the MOONLIGHTING set and will watch the first episode on that disc tomorrow.
-

I was interested to read, in one of the other reviews, that Arthur Laurents had previously forbidden Patti permission to play that role.
Yep. Which is why this production of Gypsy is bit more "special" than other ones. There was a great feature article in last Sunday's Times that gave a quick rundown of the situation, and it's somewhat "moving" resolution.
Let Her Entertain You. Please! (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/08/theater/08gree.html?ex=1184644800&en=891e7913686b0796&ei=5070)
...And having had the opportunity to work with Mr. Laurents before his beloved Tom died, I can definitely say, he does come across as a different, changed man nowadays. Watching him coach potential Dainty Junes in the auditions for this production was incredibly enlightening.
-
Of course, my friend Hal and I are going to the 11 a.m. showing of HARRY POTTER tomorrow morning, so I'll be on-line much earlier tomorrow than usual, I think.
-
I have eaten and eaten and eaten today....Yikes! I did manage to clear my desk at the office, take some art down there, water the grass and go through a couple boxes looking for things from my old office. I found my 2 hole punch and 3 hole punch and a few other things. That will save a few $$

Safe travel vibes to DR Jose
Thanks, DR Cillaliz. -And I think I'm gonna try to get upgraded to business class so that I can have web access while on the train. Or at least sit in the car closest to business class. ;)

I have a cat named Joshie, who was a foster from the pound who failed adoptions. Plus there are some feral cats that live around who show up to be fed daily.

3D-I don't remember asking if you have any pets, or that you mentioned having any. Do you?
As a kid growing up I had a series of dogs, and then cats and dogs, but nothing for the last 10 years. I visit family overseas each year for a month or so, and wouldn't want to put pets in a kennel that long, or leave them with friends.

But I feed all the critters in my backyard, from birds to squirrels to that muskratty type thing. (ID-ing animals isn't my strong point...)

What's the latest health update on Sherlock?
So far, so good. He still continues to be asymptomatic. Knowing that can change in an instant we never really relax when he plays. On the other hand, it is such a joy to watch him have fun with other dogs.
Thank you for asking.
-
3D-I wouldn't have pets if I made a habit of traveling for long stretches. I would like to go overseas for a long stay in one location.

Jose, what's the train ride like down to Virgina and back up to New York these days? About a year ago my parents went up to DC and the train was 3 hours late in both directions... admittedly that's DC....

It really all just depends what's going on the tracks that day, week. However, the mid-day "Regionals" almost always run late - and the conductors on board are usually very open about that fact. When I took the train down to Virginia a couple of weeks ago, we were on schedule until we reached Fredericksburg. And we almost made up the time time by the time we reached Richmond, but due to track work there, well... But, I'm travelling "on points", so I guess I can't really complain. -And, <knock wood>, I've only had one truly bad Amtrak delay ever - and that involved a sudden snowstorm, so... I guess I should consider myself lucky.
-Just as I consider myself "lucky" with the USPS, UPS, and AOL. :)

Thank you for "Let Her" link DR Jose.
You're welcome, DR Tomovoz.

Jose - What Noel wrote in his post was about ideas he felt he had before other people had them, so i wanted to assure him that at least in two of those four cases, no one followed in his footsteps. I quote from Noel's post:
"And, you know, I've long loved Skip and valued his avuncular influence on me when I was a very young musical theatre writer.
Now, did you think of The Music Man, 110 in the Shade or something else?"

3D-I wouldn't have pets if I made a habit of traveling for long stretches. I would like to go overseas for a long stay in one location.
Helps if you have a family member in the military, stationed overseas. I've spent a month at a time in England (for several years), Japan, and Germany. Unfortunately she's retiring next year, as is her husband (both in the Air Force) so the free furrin stays are just about over. :'(
I'm trying to persuade them to move to ALaska... I've always wanted to visit Alaska. ;D

Welcome to new DR JULIE!!!
-
I love critter pics on HHW....we got more of 'em than Elly Mae Clampett...and purtier ones too.
-
DR TCB....terrible (but not unusual) turn of events. There are a lot of small people in community theatre....and a lot of them get to be charge...for a little while.
AND Mr Gene Fowler Jr - you mentioned him yesterday - of course directed the hit movie produced by Herman Cohen...I WAS A TEEN AGE WEREWOLF.
-
DR MBARNUM....I haven't received TWO TICKETS TO BROADWAY as yet....but I am looking forward to it.

Thanks for the GYPSY links, DR JOSE. Interesting opinions.
I was under the impression that Mr Laurents had said no LuPone in NYC....because she did the show in Chicago a few years ago....but what do I know?
-
Hello....hello....is this thing on?
-
I'm watching a pretty bad movie called "Endless Love," starring Brooke Shields and Shirley Knight. It's a terrible movie, but there are a couple of really pretty men who more often than not are shirtless... (I think one of them is Tom Cruise). How bad can it be?
All my paperwork for the week is done and now all I need do is pack for tomorrow. I'm heading out to the Hamptons tomorrow morning for a day at the beach with a bunch of people from my company at my boss' rental house. It should be fun.
DR Jose: Glad the party wasn't too awful.
DR FJL: Congrats!!
DR Julie: Welcome!
-
Crouton is awake and is now outside. That's all I have to say. Sorry.
-
Have fun in the Hamptons, DR JASON!
DR JOSE....I forgot to say thanks again....but ..uh...I don't think the yoga pants are for me. My yo is too big and too much of my ga is behind me to wear those.

I think I will play some instrumental music before I go to sleep.

LOL.....
Patti didn't look particularly sylph like in those photos herself.....

Ah, "Endless Love".... Two hearts... Two hearts that beat as one...
-Actually, one of the first pieces of sheet music I remember buying. -Although, I think the cover art had something to with that. ;)
-And don't forget Richard Kiley too! And Jimmy Spader, and Jami Gertz!
-And just what is Martin Hewitt up to nowadays?
-
Hmm... There seems to be a lot of "praying" going on upstairs... :-\
-
Speaking of "Endless Love"... ;)
Oh, even Robert Altman appears in that movie.
-
Finished movie watching for the night and am now listening to some music.
-
This "Endless Love" movie is truly awful. The hot guy in the wifebeater (that's only tucked into the front of his jeans - VERY sexy), nearly rapes Brooke Shields...pins her to the bed, repeating "You love me...you love me!," to which she succumbs and responds with, "David... David...Look at me. You're right...you're right! I love you..." and then makes a sound as if she's about to puke in his face just before she kisses him.
At least he's in the wifebeater.
-
Why is such a shirt called a wifebeater?
-
SPOILERS FOR A 26-YEAR OLD MOVIE AHEAD:
Uh oh...Brooke just found out that hot guy in the wifebeater was on the scene when her father was hit by a NYC taxi and then James Spader (Brooke's brother) attacked the hot guy, who is now fully clothed in a football raglan tee and corduroys, and then the cops showed up and dragged hot guy away. How did that happen?
Now Brooke and Shirley Knight are strolling in the snow, next to a lake, like you do in the middle of winter. Any moment now, I expect one of them will ask if the other ever has that not-so-fresh feeling...
-
Why is such a shirt called a wifebeater?
It describes the kind of person who stereotypically wears said shirts.
-
And here's the song...
"My first love...you're every breath that I take...you're every step I make..."

OH! DR Jason - And others - Be sure to check out the latest installments on BroadwayAbridged.com. Legally Blonde and 110 in the Shade receive "proper" treatments.

ENDLESS GLOVES - my new comedy about a break-in at a proctologist's opffice
-
Hmm...I just realized I haven't started packing my clothes... Hmm... Guess I better do that.
-
I should probably take a shower and get to bed. I need to be up in 7 hours...
'Night, all!
-
...And my train leave in four hours...
...And the last load of laundry just finished in the dryer...

I'm listening to the mastered version of what I hope will be an upcoming Kritzerland release - our second filmmusic release, but also one that should appeal to all who love musicals - Michel Columbier's complete score (2 CDs) for Jacques Demy's virtually unknown film, Une Chambre En Ville. I love this score so much and it's time it's heard and appreciated. The sound is magnificent.
