Congrats to DR Noel on the grant!

Yay, I get to see The Last Star Fighter! Congradulations!

This weeked I went to the Glendale theater in-the-round  to see a community theater version of Hello Dolly!
I liked it, the main players were all strong, although the chorus was bland and concentrating on the dancing more than just having fun, which was distracting. I sat in the front row and Dolly Levi handed me one of her cards :)

My mom and I just listened to Liz Callaway's "The Beat Goes On", and now we are playing Sally Mayes's "The Story Hour"

Hmm... I keep hearing things dropping in the other room, and the phrase, "Is she OK? Is she sick?" being repeated over and over.  :-\
Does it sound like objects being dropped, or bodies?

This sounds like the Glendale Center Theater.  It's been there for practically forever.

It's in walking distance from Bookfellas, our esteemed BK's favorite place to read from his own novels.

Heaven help us all--Son #1 has just successfully extracted DNA from some plant with his Discovery Channel DNA Extractor.  Can a clone be far behind?

Hello everyone.

Hello DR Jane.  Thank you so much for the welcome.
This is my first post on the board.  I just joined today, after lurking for about two weeks or so.  I could no longer resist not posting!

I'm really glad to be joining all of you, and look forward to being a part of your lively and wonderful discussions.

I already know some of you.  DR FJL is a very dear friend, and through him I have had the pleasure of meeting DR elmore, DR Jose, and DR Rodzinski.  I even met BK once for about 30 seconds when he was doing the Last Starfighter reading with Fred and Skip.  I hope to meet more of you in the future.

Julie

Welcome, Julie!

Thanks for the welcome, Matt.

No one gave me a welcome mat ....

or  toaster, or any sort of welcome gift when I joined ...  ;)

Welcome Newbie Julie -- maybe DR FJL will send you some welcome chocolates (but don't be surprised if they never get to you...)

I've heard that eating an occasional banana helps, too.  And that is NOT a euphemism!

Miss Karen, if you would have the decency to live in New York (as Julie does), these flowers would be bothering your sinuses instead of mine and that big box o' chocolates would have given you adolescent-worthy acne instead of me.  I've put up with your whining, but it's your fault for not being in Manhattan, Miss Blame-it-on-the-World (a Dreamgirls reference)

So, far - two bottles of Jim Bean, one bottle of Maker's Mark, and a bottle of Patron have been placed in the recycling bin.  Many more are bound to follow over the next couple of hours.

Honestly, Jose, you shoudn't drink that much alcohol, especially alone in your room.

No, no, no.  In DR elmore's case, it's too many users trying to access the nude.

The "vibe" of the party is one of "let's get drunk/trashed/bombed" - which is not the kind of party I like.  Consequently, a couple of the guys seem to be over-compensating in regards to their "stud/macho" factor.  Ehh...  -And if I hear, "Come on!  It's time for another shot of tequila!" one more time, well...

So, I'm in my room, with the A/C running, and I'm also doing some laundry and reading and posting here.

And waiting for them to pass out?

(in my best whiney voice): Well, I'll be in town for the New York Musical Theatre Estival -- so I expect my hotel room to be filled with flowers and a box of chocolates (with no finger punch marks in any pieces) delivered each day ~

I was reading in the GLORIOUS ONES Playbill from Pittsburgh that Lynn Ahrens actually started working on that Commedia dell'Arte musical (at that time with another collaborator in the BMI Workshop, not with Stephen Flaherty) in 1983.  That collaborator subsequently gave Lynn Ahrens her blessing to pick up the project with Stephen Flaherty.  So Lynn Ahrens' involvement with adapting a novel about Commedia dell'Arte seems to date back to 1983.  Noel, is it possible you were working on your Commedia dell'Arte musical with Tony Kushner around the same time, since yours appears to have first been seen in a university production in December 1983?  If so, again, it seems there's no need to be concerned that anyone copied your show's idea.  And of course, their show is based on a novel that predated 1983.
