JELL-O - During his final three months of in and out of hospitals and nursing home stays, Stan took great delight in telling the story of my surviving for seven very long days in the hospital eating nothing but celery JELL-O.

Lye Soap - Up until September, Stan always made lye soap from his grandmother's old recipe. I still have a bag of the soap that is great to use on whites and sheets in the laundry.

I had a subscription early on to HIGHLIGHTS magazine. If I am not mistaken my Grandma Cooper got it for me.

I graduated to FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND (I have all of my old issues packed away). I can remember getting each issue and sitting on the front stoop looking at it with the neighbor girls from next door, Tracy and Krissa.

At about this same time I regularly purchese Marvel's THE INHUMANS comic book and on occasion would also pick up other Marvel comics like THE SILVER SURFER, THE AVENGERS, THE FANTASTIC FOUR and GODZILLA.

My current subscriptions are FILMS OF THE GOLDEN AGE, CLASSIC IMAGES, FILMFARE, VIDEO WATCHDOG, and FILMFAX.

DR MBarnum, i stopped watching SUPERSTARS of DANCE after the first week. I thought the dancing was just alright. But I could totally see you liking it.

Go to youtube. There are clips of most numbers, including week 1.

I liked Eerie better, but I think it was because it was the first one I started reading.

By 1983, Peggy was engaged to Peter, author of the New York history UPPER WEST SIDE STORY, and by 1986 or so, Eugene had moved to Los Angeles, where he died from a heart attack around 1999, too young and too unappreciated as an actor and mensch.

That looks like a good book...I'm going to check it out!

My very first magazine was HIGHLIGHTS, but I only liked that one for the hidden picture puzzle--otherwise, I considered it "baby-ish".
I quickly moved on to the vastly more sophisticted JACK AND JILL, with its interesting stories (I loved the Baba Yaga tales), fun craft ideas and games and puzzles. I still have some of those stashed away.

My first ones were JACK AND JILL and GOLDEN MAGAZINE. I had poems published in each. That was the extent of my career as a poet.

Prince Sirki has been very busy this month and I wish he would just stop.....

The lovely SUSANNA FOSTER, star of the 1943 version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA as well as several other 1940s Universal films, died this morning at The Actors Fund Home in New Jersey.

I had subscritptions to both from the age of 5 to 9. Then I was given a subscription to a National Geographic Magazine written for kids, but I don't remember the name of it It was very interesting though and I had it until I was about 14

My teen years I read 16 and TigerBeat -- OH Bobby Sherman!!!

I ocassionally read MAD at friend's houses but my parents thought it was inappropriate and wouldn't let it in the house

My parents always had LIFE and LOOK and my Mom had Redbook. My grandmother took McCall's and I loved reading the Betsy McCall stories in the back and she would always let me cut out the Betsy paperdolls.

For many years I took Smithsonian and Natural History but I let them lapse a few years ago.

Now we get Asimov's, Analog, National Geographic, and Reader's Digest.

Danise, great to see you. We've missed you! Congratulations on all your house stuff. I feel kind of stuck because my DH knows how to do pretty much everything that needs to be done around here, but is too busy to do any of it, and doesn't want me to hire anyone. But if I did hire someone, they would be fixing the dishwasher, installing the washer/dryer we've never used, and replace the toilet (that that previous owner painted purple!) and sink with new ones we've had for several years. Then, hanging a lamp and a few pictures would take care of the living space. Then there's the apartment downstairs, which is still a burned out shell.

I wish my brother would move back home for a few years. We could keep him busy!

I read MAD, CRACKED (was that the name?), and lots of comics (mostly Archie); but none of them on a regular basis. The only magazine that I would read, cover to cover every week, was TV GUIDE. My mom would buy it at the store on Tuesday afternoon for the next week that started on Saturday. I read every article and feature in the magazine.

Later, I moved on to AFTER DARK and PLAYBOY, but TV GUIDE remained an addiction until the late 90's.
