TOD

Saturday Evening Post
Colliers
Life
Reader's Digest
Donald Duck Comics
(later on Superman, Tales from the Crypt, Illustrated Classics)
We did not get get TV guide because the Philadelphia Inquirer had not yet started publishing it - the absence of commercial braodcast TV was probably the reason (I was in school before I ever saw a TV set).

I relished the first editions of MAD, of course I was in high school at the time.

I started reading National Geographic at such a young age that I was most interested in the animal pictures.

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm watching The Train.

Brings back memories:

The first time I rode a train into the Wilmington Station I looked on the platform a saw two water fountains; one labeled WHITE, and one labeled COLORED. Today I saw a colored President Elect arrive on the same platform. I suspect the signage has been changed.

DR Ginny, re the Meadows: the salmon I had there on Christmas Eve was really delish! So was the dessert. Now what the hell did I have?

DR Elmore - that sounds good.  I have my mouth all set for prime rib, but if the end cut is not available maybe I'll go with salmon.  The Meadows doesn't have the same thing every night, though.

Well, thanks to my grandmother being my baby sitter, I was exposed to PHOTOPLAY and SILVER SCREEN long before I was introduced to HIGHIGHTS. . .but, my first subscription was to HIGHLIGHTS.
Then of course, it was MAD, FAMOUS MONSTERS, EERIE, CREEPY and VAMPIRELLA.
REDBOOK, MCCALL'S and GOOD HOUSEKEEPING were always around the house.

Vixmom's prompting me for thoughts on Obama and the repeal of the ban on gays in the military forced me to encapsulate my thoughts on the issue. I shared that post with the Chair of Log Cabin-CA, who forwarded same to the BofD of Log Cabin - National for their consideration in their meeting in Atlanta today.

Vixmom - thanks for the nudge

I'm feeling very logy today.  Chills.  Chills.  Chills.  Plus a teeny tiny bit of a tummy bug.  Tiny headache, too.
I'm just going to stay in tonight, instead of working, crawl into a hot shower or tub, then relax on my couch or in my bed.

I still read HIGHLIGHTS at the dentist and doctor's wating rooms.  I love the Hidden pictures, the Timbertoes, and I always loved Goofus and Gallant.  Unfortunatley they felt the need to modernize the look of Goofus and Gallant, and it just isn't the same.

For Holiday dinners I always have the prime rib roast cut in two before roasting - that way there are four end cuts!

der Brucer

And for a large roast - 4 or more ribs - cutting it in two also provides a better distribution of medium-well, medium, and rare cuts.

And since I love the end cut, and also like steak tartare, I'm hard to displease.

These are issues I never had to personally face and you opened my eyes.

Well, I hope I can open some eyes at LCR. Whining about losing the election will do no good. Campaigning to point out Obama's short-comings when he fails to live up to the Gay community's expectations based on campaign promises is folly. Obama is the President - if we are going to make strides in human rights issues, it will be with his leadership; our job must be to see that we can muster the necessary Republican votes (mainly in the Senate) to ensure those bills passage. We must challenge Republican legislators to live up the promises of the party of Lincoln.

I got a call from my good friend Jeff that kept me on the phone an hour causing me to be really late in my afternoon schedule. Thus I didn't get much watched this afternoon at all, and didn't get to any work disc. I'll do that when I go back down.

I did get a chance to watch last night's PSYCH while I ate lunch. Very funny episode (James Roday had more zingers last night than I remember happening in a long time). The mystery was one of the easiest to solve in the show's history, but the Shawn and Gus interplay and their comments to others were just priceless.

I will be watching a work disc when I go back down. Hopefully, it will be funny since it's a stand-up act, and at 78 minutes (20 extra minutes of footage not on the network broadcast), I hope it's not a waste of time.

Morning auditions went surprisingly well.  Only a couple that made us recoil in horror (after they had left, of course).  The fun part, as it is in any show, is after the audition, when the door is closed, and the producer and director start dishing about the various actors.  ;)  I think we've found our Bloom, though Ulla is yet to be cast.  A couple of people who have given me personal grief walked in and blanched at the sight of me, knowing their prospects were nil, which made me laugh silently to myself.  :)
