DR Druxy, personally, I think Muppet movies were the best.

That fellow who wrote me on Facebook just posted a review at amazon - apparently he was a Nudie fan and bought the book because of that.

I realize that I'm in the minority here, but I just finished watching the DVD of NINE, and I really enjoyed it...with reservations.

Granted, I've never seen 8 1/2, nor have I seen NINE on stage, so I'm just judging the film on its own merits.

I thought that the staging of the musical numbers were sensational, the performances terrific and the story certainly had me involved.

My primary problem with the film (show) is that the songs are not memorable.  Nothing that you would leave the theater humming.

I did like Marion Cotillard's first number and also Nicole Kidman's song.  I thought they were quite touching.

Anyway, take it or leave it, that's my opinion.

 :)

Sorry, you lost me at "I've never seen 8 1/2."  You, a supposed cinephile have never seen the amazing 8 1/2.  Hmmm.  Well, glad you enjoyed Nine - I, and many others, found it to be a failure of major proportions.

Back when 8 1/2 came out, I was at a point in my life where I was totally turned off on foreign language films.  LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD did that for me.

When I finally got interested in foreign films again, I just never got around to it.  It was one of those "Yes, I should see it...but not tonight" movies.  I've never seen THE SEVENTH SEAL  or RAN either, so sue me.

I know that they are great movies, but they are not my cup of tea.

At this point in my life (and even back then), I want to be entertained.  I don't want to see a film...just because I "should" see it.

I hated AVATAR.  I hated THE DARK KNIGHT.  But, most people loved those films.

That's fine.  To each his own.

Frankly, I don't understand why you watch a lot of the films you watch, but if you enjoy them...great!

One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Okay, my friend?

 :)

8 1/2 is wildly personal and wildly entertaining and was wildly influential on a whole generation of filmmakers - the point being, if you actually watched the thing you would probably love it.  You SAW Avatar, you SAW The Dark Knight - so, SEE 8 1/2 and then judge - I can't say enough about it - it's brilliant.

When I went down, I watched Monday's LAW & ORDER. I guessed the identity of the murderer faster than I think I have ever figured it out.

I watched another Tommy and Tuppence adventure. Like the others, it's a very mild mystery but enjoyable.

FJL, I haven't really asked for particulars, as I don't feel it's any of my business.  I know they have a lot (like, a friggin' lot, LOL) in savings.  Not sure what happened with the business.  It may have just come down to them wanting to preserve their savings--they're both in their 60's now.

To take me up to NCIS, I put in the GARBO documentary. I only got about 30 minutes done - took me though QUEEN CHRISTINA. I'll continue with it tomorrow.

Then I watched tonight's NCIS. A melancholy episode with Tony falling for a news anchor. They've done episodes like this in the past (Ziva fell for a man with a terminal illness a couple of seasons ago), so it didn't seem especially new. It was otherwise an OK mystery.

Laura - The only one of those that i saw was Million Doillar Quartet, so on the basis of what i saw...

I've seen a number of the shows nominated in other categories, so the tony show may still be interesting.    (Last year, i had seen many more of the shows, though.)

I'm back from my whirlwind trip to LA!  I had a great time: spending time with my California friends, seeing my favorite male performer, Brent B (Barbra is favorite female!) and meeting BK - who could ask for anything more?

Then I went on to tonight's GLEE. Not as good an episode as the previous three. They did two hip hop/rap numbers, never my favorites though the dancing was pretty good. I did enjoy the final two numbers that  featured Rachel a lot (her video and then the final number).

Poor Olivia Newton-John. What these celebrities do to themselves to try to maintain youthfulness and only suceed in turning themselves into distortion mirror reflections of their former selves. Sad.

I don't want to brag, but I'm appearing in Barbra Streisand's new DVD.  Granted I'm only in it for about 2 seconds, but I'm there!   You have to scroll down and hit "play."  I'm the second from the right:

Yes, I'm one of those crazy people who waited outside the Village Vanguard last September while she performed before 123 people.

I'm disappointed that Cheyenne Jackson and Terri White weren't nominated, but I would have really been upset if Christopher Fitzgerald had been snubbed!

vixmom - Not a great day, as it turned out.  Sadly, we found out on Thursday that some friends who were supposed to help with the dogs had to go to a funeral out of town, so that kinda was that.

Not sure what the right thing to have done if we had agreed to watch someone's dogs on a day they planned since December for a 50th birthday, and then a funeral of someone close came up.  Skip and I had thought that if the shoe were on the other foot, one of us would have gone to the funeral, and the other stay with the dogs, even though it might be a drag to watch the dogs solo.  but who knows?  If it were just a regular birthday year, maybe not, but for a 50th birthday, i dunno.

As it happens, we had already downgraded the birthday plan to a day away with my brother in New Jersey, but instead, my brother came over to us on Saturday, and then we just had a small get-together with Maureen on Sunday.

It's too bad.  We'd have planned a little do here if we'd known, although that's still a regular birthday thing, not a 50th birthday thing. :(

You're right, Vixmom and Laura. I've met three member so far, Ben, elmore and BK and enjoyed meeting them all (not to mention Ant, whose enthusiasm is contagious!)
