So today I'll have DIRT and two episodes of AS THE WORLD TURNS to watch (Friday's and Monday's).

As for movies, I haven't decided. I may finish up the LUBITSCH MUSICALS set with ONE HOUR WITH YOU.

Thanks for sharing those stories about John Dossett et al, DR Elmore. I loved John and David on the show (as well as several other featured players who really did wonderful jobs.)

The remaining five episodes which move us past the '1776' point of his story should be most entertaining. Looking forward to them all.

I'm seeing it two weeks from tomorrow (April 1).

I'm seeing A Catered Affair on April 2.

I'm seeing In the Heights on April 8.

I'm seeing South Pacific on April 15.

I need to get tickets for The Scottish Play, The Country Girl, Thurgood, Boeing-Boeing and Top Girls

In spite of the presence of Miss Laura Linney I have negative desire to see Les Liaisons Dangereuses. I LOATHED it when I first saw it and I would need to be tied to my chair with Clockwork Orange type eye devices attached to make me sit through it again.

I don't have any strong urge to see the new Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I would love to see Miss Cook at the Carlye but that is just out of my budget.

As a huge fan of John and Abigail Adams, I'm sorry we don't have HBO.  I thought of adding it to our cable service, but decided to wait for the DVD - hope it's available soon after the series ends!  I'm very pleased to hear the positive reactions from people whose opinions I respect.

Several years ago at my library's annual staff day there was an audiobook program at which I was one of the door prize winners.  We were each given a Recorded Books catalog and told we could order anything we wanted.  I chose the CD version of David McCullough's   John Adams, the book on which the HBO series is based.  Mr. McCullough is someone I'd like to have over for dinner.

DR elmore - You need to hang around midtown more often!  The number of times over the past couple of months I ran into David Morse as he was coming out of the Booth... Well, it was a number of times. -"Yep, he's tall." ;) And I still manage to catch a glimpse of John Dossett's amazing blue eyes every once awhile during my perambulations.  I still have fond memories of his Fredrik in the Kennedy Center's A Little Night Music.

DR Jose, after working in midtown for the first 18 years of my NYC life, I don't miss it at all! I hadn't realized David was in THE SEAFARER.  He was so wonderful in THE TRADING POST at WPA.  Boy, does he look like George Washington!

That's our Jose....his memory book of his travels is predicated upon the cuisine!   ;D

HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY
GREEN FOR DANGER

Though I've never seen it, I enjoy the music to GREENWILLOW.

I must disagree with my friend Elmore.  I was bored and disappointed by the JOHN ADAMS mini on HBO.   A lot of good actors and interesting history, but the whole thing is rather portentously, lethargically told.

I put it down to a bad script and poor direction.  It's like every word that's uttered is "we are saying weighty, important things."  They're playing it like history; rather than like people.  Every scene with Giametti and Linney is done in claustrophic two-shots and everything that is said is so ponderous and measured and serious.  Though, yes, Abigail was a significant part of John's life, it feels like just because they have Laura Linney that have to give her character absolutely equal time scene for scene with Giamatti and some of those scenes and moments just aren't worth it, then you see her not only giving her wise advice and influence to John Adams, but George Washington as well.  We're getting historical figures, not living, breathing people.  I felt I got to know all these characters better in 1776, and they were alive and more multi-faceted and interesting than they are here.  It would probably be a more fulfilling exercise to read the book; but I'll probably tune in next week to see if gets better.  And where was Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, The Boston Tea Party?   We might have seen some of histroy being played out instead of talked about, seen people doing things instead of saying things like, "I must do..."...if they'd picked up pace and cut some of Abigail Adams looking wise and solemn at her husband.

I can recommend THE SEAFARER, however.

I called out sick today. When I woke up this morning, the idea of having to go to work made me feel sick, and so I called out. It's actually more of a mental health day- I've made a promise to myself that I will take one of those every month.

Prior to yesterday's postings, I had never heard of Brandon de Wilde -

I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!  Had you never seen "Shane"?  Or "Member of the Wedding"?  Did you ever see "Those Calloways"?

The latter is a movie he made for Disney in the early 1960s with Brian Keith playing his dad.  It was a good film with gorgeous photography.

And, de Wilde even did a Disney TV mini-series called "Tenderfoot", from whence came this still:

Vibes for DR TPunk, too.  Mental health days are very important, especially in the helping professions.  I've been known to take one from time to time.

I'm off to meet my friend for lunch - bye for now!
