Time for me to go home.  Since I'm watching the NBC line-up, maybe I'll record "The Bachelor" just to see what it's all about.

Last night Alexander Revisited - The Final Cut.  This is director Oliver Stone's third and final version of his film Alexander starring Colin Farrell.

It is now 3 1/2 hours long.  I did not see the Director's Cut, I only saw the original, but this version is much improved and very impressive.

As Stone says in the introduction, "If you liked Alexander to begin with, you will like it more - if you hated it before, you will still hate it."

Some battles and relationships are clarified.  The CGI is still TOO MUCH, but I really like the costumes, makeup, and music.  And Farrell's character as Alexander is much more the "great" in this version.

If you liked it the first time around - this reedited version might be interesting to you.  It is not linear, time goes back and forth, but titles (especially during the battle that opens the film) will keep you on track.

And it only cost $5 at Wal Mart.

I saw the second version and it was a bit of a mess.  I just got through watching Stone's W. though and it's wonderful.

The problem with getting cinematic with Alexander was that...he was GREAT.  He sort of rose rapidly to prominence and went from triumph to triumph. Not much inherent drama in that.  It was the problem with the Burton film; it's also the problem with the Stone film.  As tortured as you try and make him, he still succeeds in his goal and his quest.  Once he gets the father issue sorted out with Philip of Macedonia, there just ain't all that much conflict in his life.

My lord, were there ever a lot of bonus features on the BATMAN release. All were ported over from that 2005 deluxe box set of the four films, but I'd never bothered to watch any of them before today, and it took me until 8:45 to get to everything. (I started around 5:30). Very comprehensive coverage of the making of the film in all its aspects.

When I finally finished those bonus features, I watched '24.' Season 7 is shaping up to be the best-ever season for the series. I was riveted from beginning to end, and the second hour was even more tension-filled than the first hour. I could NOT stay in my chair it was so tense.

They are firing on all cylinders on '24' this season.

And I ended the evening with tonight's MEDIUM.

Good story, and Blythe Danner is always good, but once I saw what the daughter was doing, I had no trouble at all figuring out the ending. I even knew where the body was.

Tomorrow I'll be working on BATMAN RETURNS. The bonuses didn't appear to be quite so extensive. But I'll know more tomorrow.

TV GUIDE says it's a recap of the season. If you've watched every episode, is there something more to happen?

And I believe I shall be heading to bed now too.  Tomorrow is going to be a prep, laundry and packing day.  And, hopefully, a hair cut too - I'm about a week and a half overdue.  So...

Goodnight.

Speaking of opera, didn't MEDIUM seem a little soap-opera-ish tonight?

Finished with my viewing and am now listening to the sequenced and edited That Man From Rio - the soundtrack proper, which runs about fifty-two minutes.  He'll upload the twenty minutes of bonus tracks tomorrow.  But this sounds great and all the edits work beautifully, I'm happy to say.  The sixteen hour day was definitely worth it.

I just finished watching a strange, very strange movie starring Paul Newman:  THE SILVER CHALICE.  I had never seen this before.  Great franz Waxman score and a bizarre production design, not to mention Jack Palance's tights covered with what appear to be black procreaters (for want of a less unseemly term).  Compelling viewing, though not necessarily a good movie.  I enjoyed it for what it was. . .

I watched the cut of the Kevin and Sean show - unfortunately all my beautiful dissolves on the ballads have gone missing, and I'm quite annoyed by it and have sent the editor a strong note.  Hopefully he has the previous cut with all the dissolves so he can recreate them, because I certainly am not going to waste my time doing so when I've already done it.  Other than that, it's really quite good, save for one little awkward thing in one of the song intros, a really easy fix.

This is my first season and they sure have me hooked - I really like the fact that they can move the action along so fast, keep a few sub-plots boiling away 'till they're integrated, and still keep sense of the whole shebang.

I even find the split screen work constructive, not distracting.
