Well, you've read the notes, the notes and the Anita Kerr Singers told it like it is, and now it is time for you to post until the Anita Kerr Kows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUIXOTIC!
-
In the last week, my niece has had me record two Hallmark movies and put them on Blu-rays for her. ::) These movies are so generic and bland. What's the appeal??
-
Yesterday, I went to my parents' house and helped my mom get her laundry room ready for the second washer and dryer set to be delivered. The first set couldn't be installed because they were too big by just a couple of inches to fit where they need to go. This set fit perfectly, so they could stay. Unfortunately, the washer is kind of loud and it's pretty much in the middle of their house, so you can't really get away from it. We'll see if it's really annoying when she starts using it on a regular basis.
-
As is standard at this time in the world, I have no specific plans for the day. I should start doing more laundry and cleaning, so I guess that's the plan. We'll see. ;)
-
Actually, the plan is to watch Doug's play, In My Mind's Eye. That's the plan! :) But first, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Yes, watch, tell us your thoughts. Ask questions.
-
Listening to a splendid symphony by Heikki Suolahti - he passed away in 1936 having just turned sixteen. I gather this was written when he was fourteen or fifteen.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Very restless sleep last night, with strange dreams. The only one I remember now has to do with finishing a project and clearing out. My friend Jim Martin, conductor of several shows between 1973 and 1979, was in it. He was the conductor of a score I had written, and the performance was over. I remember bits of the dream: a scotch tape dispenser that was stuck and thrown against a wall to unstick, looking over the score with the conductor, and packing cartons. I think by the end opf the dream much of my mother's family was in it.
-
Everyone ate this morning. That bodes good.
-
City Vet remains open, I assume. Dr. Mohr is one of about eight vets who work there. I see her and Dr. Romero the most often.
-
I plan to finish watching Sanditon today. I may move on to my friend Sam Irvin's new blu-ray of Frankenstein: the True Story. Sam almost hired me in 1980 or 1981 to score a thriller he had directed but turned me down when I told him I had no sound studio experience. That led me to work for Ben Bagley, who was at the time the only record producer I knew at the time, as a music copyist and later orchestrator, so I could get inside a recording studio.
-
Those who are Skip's Facebook friends know that he was attacked outside the West Bank Cafe, where he was picking up food and had money in his hand inside the vestibule on the way in to the restaurant.
-
(They of course only do take out or delivery like all retsuarnats who have been open.)
From now on, since they also deliver, we'll do that, as we did yesterday. But he seemed Ok enough to walk Liam yesterday, though others are doing the more lengthy walks for now.
-
It was fascinating to see the clear guidance we've been getting lately that it's very specifically almost always when our hand has the virus i and we then touch our face that gives us the virus, which seems to say don't worry about what's on your hand unless you then touch your face.
I keep thinking "?Don't touch the face" from "Please hello" but I guess that's not that familiar a reference. to non-theater lovers.
-
I have not yet seen very guidance on putting contact lenses in, but I assume that means at least wash your hands REALLY REALLY well before putting the lenses in - I'm assuming that means put in one lens, then wish your hands again before putting the other lens. in.
-
Anita Kerr used to be my publicity client.
Nice lady.
-
Tomorrow (Monday), if all goes as planned, I should get the proofs of 2 of the 4 books that I am re-publishing via Amazon. The other 2 proofs are due on Wednesday.
(My previous publisher is ceasing business.)
I hate proof-reading, but it has to be done.
And, it keeps me busy during this difficult time.
-
I also have 2 performers doing audio editions of my one-person plays.
Allows me to wear my director hat again.
-
I also have another one-person play that I will start writing soon.
If you pick the right subject, these plays do sell well (particularly with drama students), and you even get an occasional production.
-
I got a FB message from Dr. Mohr. She and family are sequestered in Connecticut. I sent her an Annabelle update.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Horrible story about Skip, Fred. Vibes to you both.
-
I had a terrible night of sleep. Don’t know what caused it. But a James Bond novel on audio, Moonraker, put me to sleep in minutes.
-
It’s Sunday. I’m able to live stream services. I can hear a number of people in the background. I guess some don’t get it.
-
Even if the church is practicing social distancing.
-
Vibes for Skip and DR freddie.....shocking story......
-
Oh sorry DR VIXMOM I didn't realize it had been so recent.....I'll give you a few more years.....
-
I think my grandmother used to use QUIXOTIC when she made her moonshine.
-
More good surprise vibes for MR BK.
I like the Anita Kerr Singers.....I think I have a boxed LP set of them singing with Rod McKuen.

"A House Is Not A Home" is my favorite song from "Promises, Promises".
-
This could easily be Stella.
-
Good morning!
-
Sorry to hear what happened to Skip, Fred.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Slept in a little, which felt damn good.
One weird-ass dream, but I don’t remember as much of it as I’d like.
-
OMG yes. Stella, for sure.
-
I could go for a vixmom breakfast this morning.
Might have to rustle something up in a little while.
-
I haven’t eaten at a Cheesecake Factory since I lived in California, and I’m trying to remember what I ever had there besides pies. Probably nothing too out of the ordinary. Burgers and other sandwiches, most likely.
The only one I ate at regularly was the Beverly Drive one when it first opened, and I was at the Marina del Rey one a couple of times. We have one here now, and it’s been on my “list” to get in there...eventually.
-
Thank you so much for the vibes for Skip.
-
Thank you, BK, for the words on LILITH. That would have to be what I was faintly remembering: that it didn’t add up to too much. Too bad, considering all it had going for it. But I’ll certainly enjoy seeing it again, especially for the exquisite Jean Seberg.
-
I think the current day's notes loaded today and maybe even yesterday without my having to refresh them. Did something happen?
-
I think the current day's notes loaded today and maybe even yesterday without my having to refresh them. Did something happen?
Mine loaded correctly today, too, on both devices.
-
Sunday morning greetings! We have just left a lovely morning prayer service that Fr. Richard conducted, via Zoom, for the church in Beavercreek, OH (Dayton 'burb) where he was supposed to be in person this morning. Amanda did a great job setting it up and there were no major audio or video gaffs.
-
Watching Cesar and I really don't remember much of this movie at all. The musical dropped most of it.
-
I think Sanditon may have jumped the shark in Episode 6, which seems more out of Henry Fielding that Jane Austen.
-
Good morning.
-
In the last week, my niece has had me record two Hallmark movies and put them on Blu-rays for her. ::) These movies are so generic and bland. What's the appeal??
Happy endings
-
I always like when Don Quixotic sings “to dream, the impossible dream....”
-
DRFreddie I was horrified to read about that attack on Skip. How is he healing?
-
Healing vibes for Skip and coping vibes for Freddie
-
I think Sanditon may have jumped the shark in Episode 6, which seems more out of Henry Fielding that Jane Austen.
Is that the last episode or are there 8?

I think offering those for money is a crime in most states.

I could go for a vixmom breakfast this morning.
Might have to rustle something up in a little while.
Today’s breakfast was eggs Benedict with thinly sliced ham fried up in a skillet in lieu of Canadian bacon. Accompanied of course by a nice hot pot of tea.
-
Just finished watching the last of the Marseille trilogy. Knowing that the last of the films was released in 1936 and that Fanny's son goes off to the join the army then made things even more emotional. In four short years, the Nazis would march into Paris. Who knows what would have happened to him in the meantime.
-
I took a picture for you but once again I am unable to upload it as HHW says it’s too big

I hope Dr. Mohr is ok, and am glad the rest of the office is open.

Our Pastors conducted church via Facebook live this morning

I am glad he is slowly recovering, and you have help walking Liam.

I have to say the new dishwasher is amazingly quiet. Thank you to Skip and Jane for recommending a Boesch, I never even heard of the brand before

I don't know about needing to double wash. It is still your own eyes and own germs unless you are touching anything else in-between each eye.

I wish my eyes would let me wear my contacts.

Pies at the Cheesecake Factory ;D

Not surprisingly the first Cheesecake Factory I ate at was the one in Beverly Hills. My father took me.

No because there's more sex in Austen than she's given credit for. In Mansfield Park one of the evil sisters (Maria?) has an adulterous affair. It was the whole coach rescue of Miss Lambe and then the following ball. Charlotte goes to London by herself (?), ends up roaming the slums of London (?) and nearly raped; then after Miss Lambe's rescue. she goes to a London ball. Where the hell did she get the finery?
I didn't buy any of it.
-
So many writers and performers are blatantly exploiting this national tragedy to call attention to their take in the matter.
So here's mine. Asking the musical question: Doesn't 6 feet apart beat 6 feet under?
"With My Friend Killing Time".
https://youtu.be/zpXdp6iS40w
(everyone in the video guaranteed observing the six-feet-apart rule)
-
We are waiting to video chat with Freyja. I fear she will be sleep by the time we chat. When she is asleep, as she usually is, it is even harder for me that I can't hold her.
-
Of course in the scheme of things, not holding her is the least of my concerns.
-
Oh sorry DR VIXMOM I didn't realize it had been so recent.....I'll give you a few more years.....

Yeah. I hear ya. I agree. I still wish they’d do a second season.

The production company was stupid not to turn it into a running soap. The cast is good and the last episodes were good, although some of the writing is too 20th century PC for Jane Austen. I cannot believe they let Charlotte and Miss Lambe run around outdoors with no bonnets. but I did like the Lord Babington-Miss Denham plot.

Four!

I went out and took a walk at the hiking park next to the library. There were plenty of people out, most willing to maintain a distance.
-
I had my mask on because of the pollens in the air. People stayed even further from me.
-
I finally got a chance to be out with some bluebonnets this spring. That was lovely. I stumbled across a whole field of them.

It is those few that don't that make the walks frustrating.

Then I went to the grocery. They were still out of handy-wipes (limit 4 per person) and toilet paper. They were also out of flour. But they had pretty much of everything else, or so it seemed. The meat cases were filled. The dairy, eggs (limit) and related products were there. Cereal, candy, frozen foods, canned goods (except soup, also on a limit) and most everything else seemed to be there.
-
Does a mask help with your allergies or is this something new you are trying?

Indiana State Dept of Health reports 256 more Covid 19 cases today.....

We are having another phone meeting this week and I will mention again that I think it's best that we cancel our season this year.....too many variables......

I enjoyed this. Is there another parody in the works, "With My Friend Serving Time"?
-
Perhaps I'm one of the few who isn't killing time. I actually have more to do than usual. Grocery shopping takes more time since we now must go to several stores where one used to do. I also want to keep things cleaner and no longer have Brian's help. Plus I feel the need to stay on top of the news. I reach out to friends more because I want to make sure they're OK. And so on.

There are only the 5 of us who deal with loans that are going in and the others sit on the other side of the building. The rest deal with litigation/bankruptcy/foreclosure etc and the courts are closed

So so sad
You're telling me. I read the book in Louisville during the week before Dad's funeral. I left it for Mom to read, and she had the exact same response. Beautiful writing, but so, so sad.

I think the title is a warning that it is sad ;)

If your mother was ok reading that after your father passed away, then I return to my suggested book "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand".

She's reading a novel in German that she pulled out of her collection, something she hadn't read for 60+ years.
-
I think, though, that given the isolation of the times that A Gentleman in Moscow will be a good read for her.
-
I really enjoyed In My Mind's Eye. The woman who played the mother looks like a friend of mine. She was able to navigate all of those emotions quite quickly and effectively.
-
I did another search for Method coconut water foaming hand wash. The only place I found it was on eBay for a ridiculous price.
-
I think, though, that given the isolation of the times that A Gentleman in Moscow will be a good read for her.
I didn't think of it that way. Major Pettigrew begins with a death, however, it has humor, growth, warmth, and ultimately is a feel good book.

We finally watched RICHARD JEWELL last night and liked it very much.

There is still hope for Nate 'n Al's.
subsequent reports that said the deli was permanently closing were premature, according to statement on Sunday from a spokesman for the restaurant. “The media has incorrectly reported that Nate ‘n Al’s is gone forever,” he said.
“It is in the intention of the current ownership to get through this crisis like every other restaurant and make the right decisions at the right time,” he continued. “Our goal is to keep the Nate ‘n Al’s tradition alive.”

Today's brunch for me was my first attempt at making waffles in a couple of years. ::) Here's the first attempt...and it's NOT scrambled eggs. It was supposed to be an actual waffle:

But here's the successful second attempt:

1st attempt ;D

Tonight's flick is a gangster musical called Idlewild with a score written by Outkast. Big cast with Ben Vereen, Patti LaBelle, Cicely Tyson, Ving Rhames and Macy Gray in roles.
-
2nd attempt-nice. I couldn't eat it though. If waffles & pancakes are not well done I get sick.
-
We still have a waffle iron but never make them. It would be a nice treat.
-
So, what happened the first time, George?

I should've left the first one in the waffle iron much longer, and sprayed it with more cooking spray so it didn't stick...that was the real problem.

See my previous post.
-
The next time I make them, I won't make the same mistakes. ;D

That's the whole point. You learn from mistakes.

Citizen Kane is on the tee vee machine

Often the first one flops, though not as royally as that one did ;D

Royally?
I’d describe that one as: Biblical.
No offense, DR George. :)

None taken! They both tasted good, though.

What did she get that is so loud?
I didn't see the brand. Also, the first time she started it, it was set on a heavy duty setting, so maybe the extra power made it louder than it is during normal cycles.
-
I have to say the new dishwasher is amazingly quiet. Thank you to Skip and Jane for recommending a Boesch, I never even heard of the brand before
My parents' dishwasher is also amazingly quiet.

That's really cool, Fred!

RIP - Krzysztof Penderecki, 86
I have a DVD of his opera The Devils of Loudon, based on the same case history by Aldous Huxley as the Ken Russell film.
When I was in the concert choir at Western Washington University, we sang a couple of his choral works, and I have this vague memory of him possibly visiting and seeing us perform, but I'm not sure about that. It's been too long.

I do want to get some milk. I guess I need to get out today...well, maybe.

We are having another phone meeting this week and I will mention again that I think it's best that we cancel our season this year.....too many variables......
I am not ready to commit to starting rehearsals in May....
That's too bad, Jrand. Sadly, it won't be the only theater group to cancel.
-
It's raining here in Tumwater. I like the rain.
-
Well, I'm going to get me some milk, so I'm off.

So, one hero in this movie is named Percival. His lady friend is Sally B. Shelley.
Percy B. Shelley

Hinton Battle did the choreography for Idlewild. It's excellent. The direction of the musical numbers is good. But the script goes on a little too long and there's little urgency to the scenes until the end.
-
Good night, all.

I really enjoyed In My Mind's Eye. The woman who played the mother looks like a friend of mine. She was able to navigate all of those emotions quite quickly and effectively.
She was great to work with, and getting the end of act one right was tricky because it's not earned, writing-wise, which I felt the first time I read the play. But through trial and error we found it. Kind of bi-polar, which was the key to her.

Finished with my viewing.

I hope so but I don't know why.

I am glad you like it. Mine has a red light that shines on the floor so I know it is on.

I just finished watching it. I enjoyed it. Both Patty and Trish looked like they were sight impaired. It had some touching moments, some fun moments, some intense moments, and it was all really well done. Good script, good actors, simple but effective set and lighting. Congrats to Doug and BK and everyone involved!

Well...it started out as an attempt at something that was supposed to end up being a waffle.

Good night.
Good night, Tom.
