Well, you've read the notes, you know what I will be doing shortly, you know the topic so all there is left to do is keep the home fries burning and post until the cows come home.

This must be some do, esteemed BK, for you to be wearing a tux and shiny shoes. I recall at the booksigning for Kritzerland, you were off to some do or other, and were glad you were not being forced to wear shiny shoes and cummerbund.
Personally, I prefer dress shoes that are a flat black in color, not shiny. Shiny scuffs too easily. And people are supposed to look at women's feet, not those of their male counterparts.
Unless, of course, some kind of fetish is involved. :-X

I happen to like roasting potatoes. I like to take Yukon Gold, or some other yellow potato, scrub them well, and cut them into wedges. Then I like to drizzle them with olive oil, sprinkle on some salt (kosher) and some herbs, at let them roast for a half hour or so in a 350 degree oven. When they are golden and easily poked with a skewer, they're done. The herbs can be varied to match whatever else is on the menu.
Der Brucer likes french fries. This requires two things: a good deep frier, and a bag of pre-cut french fries. They can also be done in the oven, but fried fries are somehow tastier. The trick here is finding a good frier. It's necessary to get one with a large enough capacity, that also gets the oil hot enough so that, when the fries are added to the oil, the temperature of the oil doesn't drop too far. To be avoided are friars, who may be deep in thought and fat, but tend to consume the food rather than cook it.
Remember, no groaning.
I've tried cutting my own fries. This requires soaking them in water, draining them, the whole shebang. The bagged fries are easier to work with.

Technically the accented syllable in "awards" is wrong, of course, but since the music stresses each syllable equally at that point, we might be able to get away with it.

Isn't "Pretty Poison" one of the best? I haven't seen it since its initial and brief release. I had a summer job in the Berkshires shortly after the film was released, and the folkl were still talking about the film, which was shot in Pittsfield, MA. I'm surprised you didn't mention Beverly Garland's great performance! A DVD release would be nice, and I'm waiting for "Oh, What A Lovely War!" to be released as well.
I remember being in an HMV in London, looking at all the Region 2 DVDs that were not available in the states - like "Oh, What a Lovely War!" and thinking, what the hell?

I take a big pot, spray it with Pam, thinly slice 2 or 3 vidalia onions and warm them over low heat. Then I add five sliced tomatoes, a peeled, cubed-up eggplant, two sliced zucchini. Adjust heat so this simmers and cover. When it looks like the amount of liquid has gone down a bit, add freshed chopped parsley. Pepper and celery salt. Lastly, add a bunch of halved olives with pimentos and call it ratatouille.
It's even better as a cold leftover.

Great news about the humpy hunk Mr. Bolder. It says on imdb that he has already published one novel. Do you have it? Is your interview going to be published where all and sun-dried can read it? For the life of me, I do not remember "Friday's Child", his Star Trek episode. But it also starred Julie Newmar (without Wong Foo).
I'm particularly interested to know the reaction of an actor like Mr. Bolder to your wanting to interview him after all these years out of the business. I mean, the proliferation of fan web sites and such have suddenly brought all sorts of people into the "public" eye whom one would expect to be totally forgotten.

Well my computer is up and running properly after two weeks plus. I have a lot of work to catch up on.

I make Potato Salad about every other year or when my family begs me to (about every other year). I call it Garden Potato salad, because I put more green stuff like celery, and bell peppers (and a few other things-- none of which come to mind now), and because I don't know what else to call it-- but I don't want people expecting German Potato Salad (which I like) or what I have sometimes seen passed off as potato salad (which is cubes of boiled potatoes with mayonnnaise on it and that's all) (And which I don't like). I only know how to make a big batch of it which takes a few hours and which is why I wait until some family event. I've tried making smalller batches and can't. It has no recipe anymore-- it just happens. The only thing to remember is to marinate the potatoes (overnight if possible) and to not overcook or undercook the potatoes. After all, it is not MASHED potato salad, nor is it Nouveau-almost raw-potato salad which seems to be the vogue now.
The good thing about knowing only how to make a big batch is that there is plenty leftover, and it's even better the next day.

Hey all, greetings from the 2004 Religious Ed. Congress in beautiful Anaheim CA. Tons of fun, good music, good content and tons of renewal. What a way to spend b-day #35. Potatos? Cooked any way here, twice baked is my fave and next in pancake form. Off to the conference and concluding the day with a dinner at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland and a viewing of FANTASMIC.

Oh, all these potato dishes and the ratatouille, YUM!! I don't eat potatoes, much. Haven't in years. (sigh)
So, anyway, it's sunny here, and i feel like it's my wedding day! Always feel that on the morn of an opening night. I had a swell tech yesterday (yes, I even LOVE the tech rehearsal!) and the run-thru was so tasty, I'm just chomping at the bit!!!!!
Maybe i'll treat myself to a massage...

Lebanese Potato Salad
(Serves 4-6)
4 large potatoes
1 small clove of garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 small onion, chopped
1/3-1/2 cup of parsley, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup of olive oil
1. Boil potatoes as for potato salad. Cool and dice into 1" cubes.
2. In a separate bowl, mash garlic with seasonings. Add lemon juice, stirring well.
3. Add lemon juice mixture and rest of ingredients to the potatoes. Toss and mix well.

Yukon Gold is an all-purpose spud with pale yellow flesh and creamy flavor. They are good for roasting and frying as well as in soups, stews, and gratins.
Russets, more commonly known as Idaho potatoes, are high in starch. Because they break apart easily when cooked, their fluffy interiors are excellent baked and mashed. They also make the best fries.
Round whites are waxier and moister than russets and hold their shape well. They are good for boiling, steaming, and roasting.
Round reds, such as red bliss, are also good for boiling. With their pale red skins, they can be used instead of round whites when more color is desired.

I received an e-mail from bruce@haineshisway.com with the subject header "Something for You" with a file attached called story.rtf that hotmail blocked as being unsafe.
If you didn't send me anything, chances are you have a worm. Run a virus scan ASAP.

No, Emily, it's not my computer. These cretins just harvest e-mail addresses and steal them and use them. It's not coming from me at all or even my e-mail address - here's the clue - you can't get e-mail from me from "bruce@haineshisway.com" because it's just a portal which sends any e-mails to my real e-mail address. In other words, bruce@haineshisway.com doesn't really exist as an e-mail address, hence you cannot receive an e-mail from it.
That's why you must always beware anything with an attachment. I have McAfee on my computer, and have never had a virus. I never open attachments unless the sender tells me what it is. I've received many e-mails from people on the site, and other friends, none of which emanated from their accounts - it's how these jerks work. Someday, somehow, someone will catch these nerds and put them away for a time. That's all that has to happen - catch a few of them and teach them a rather strong lesson and then they'll stop doing it.

The only thing I use Paypal for is the Kritzer books. I have been getting regular e-mail about updating my informatio (which I will do on their site when I pre-order KRITZER TIME next week). However these e-mails keep coming in - 2 yesterday. Are the legit or spam? Do any of you DRs have this problem?

I had another good night's sleep, but I also slept in again... but not until noon again... close, but not until noon.
Potatos - or Potatoes, if you prefer...
For some strange reason, I've never had that much success with boiling potatos for potato salad. I either under-cook them or over-cook them - never just right. *I think it's related to my apparent inability to make rice on the stove top - and even sometimes in a rice cooker. Hmmm... maybe those are just a sign that I should not be eating them since they're carbs. ;-)
But I do love a good potato salad, and I'm partial to the oil and vinegar based recipes like the one DR Donna posted. And her recipe could be a base for a multitude of variations... For a Greek Style, just add a bit more lemon juice, parsley, some rosemary (remember, a little goes a long way), and, if you like, some crumbled feta. For her Lebanese version, I'd also add some sumac - not the poisonous kind, but the purple spice kind. It adds a very subtle (at least to me) extra sour note, and those small purple flecks add a nice dash of color. Oh, and you could also add capers, roasted red peppers, olives, etc.... Hmm...
Vegetable dish wise, I'm a big fan of the simple preps. Green beans almondine - boiled or steamed green beans with some butter topped with some toasted, slivered almonds (and maybe a splash of lemon juice). Asparagus - steamed then topped with brown butter and crushed hazelnuts. Glazed carrots - boiled carrots cooked with some sugar and honey and butter... oh, and maybe a dash of fresh ginger. Oh, and cole slaw - chop cabbage and dress with a combination of mayo, vinegar, salt, pepper and whatever else you find in your fridge or cabinet (I like pineapple cole slaw myself).
Oh, and then there's the Asian style cole slaw -
Gently heat some sesame oil in a small saucepan with some coarsely ground pepper - szechuan preferably, but black pepper work well too. Then combine with some rice wine vinegar (unseasoned and seasoned work well). Add sugar to taste. Then pour over some chopped cabbage. You can do it on the fly, but if you have the time, you can salt and drain the cabbage in advance to help the "crunch factor".

If you want to have some fun, go to the link provided in the e-mail and then look at the address in your address bar - you'll see it's not paypal at all, but a bunch of numbers. The surest way to double check is to go to their site and go to your account. If there's a problem the info will be there.

DR WEL - Some of them are spam. Some of them are not. However, the real PayPal e-mails will usually direct you to log-in to PayPal to update your info. They will not provide you with a supposed direct link to your PayPal information.
Just remember, if ANY e-mail asks you to enter information that company already has, then it's most likely spam, and a scam.
PayPal's site has a few warnings concerning fake e-mails. I'd check that out first.
Btw, the only time I ever got a legitimate e-mail from PayPal was when they were reminding me that my credit card's expiration date was currently expiring. And my credit card expiration date did need to be updated. And I only updated it by logging into PayPal directly.

If they are asking for personal information, including your credit card & S.S. # it is probably a SCAM. We often receive similar requests from services we use.

Likewise any e-mail from eBay, Amazon, or your ISP. If there truely is any kind of problem, you'll find out when you try to access your account at the site.
I wish I had a good potato recipe handy, but I pretty much come from the "Let's try this, let's try that" school of cooking. From this I've learnt over the years that potato pancakes are great with garlic and dill weed added, vegatable and olive oil are not always interchangable, and that it never hurts to add a teaspoon of Tabasco to just about anything.
I *was* planning on watching THE MAIDS on DVD tonight, but I see that AIRPORT is on TCM. I think that might be the ticket, instead.

I have errands to do before getting ready for the WGA festivities. They're being held much earlier in the day than ever before and it wiill feel a little strange putting on an evening gown at 2. And having dinner at 4 will make me feel like I'm having the Early Bird Special. But, hey, what fun!

I don’t cook them at home, and you rarely find them in a restaurant, but I love sweet potato fries.
I make mashed potatoes various ways, sometimes adding garlic or green onions. For a casserole I add sour cream and parmesan cheese & bake it. At home, I mostly make them whipped with lots of butter, milk and salt. There must be leftovers for the next day to make my mother’s recipe of fried mashed potatoes. You fry patties in butter, then top with Lyle’s Golden Syrup.
As a vegetarian I should have loads of recipes, and I do, but on a daily basis I just eat my veggies steamed and plain or tossed with basmati that has been toasted in olive oil, then cooked in water and seasoned with salt or salt & saffron. For a special treat I melt butter with cumin and pour it over my string beans. In the summer we will have fresh vegetables from the garden. Often Keith will sauté a wonderful mix of the fresh veggies in olive oil. There will be walla walla onions, fava beans, edamame and sweet peas, just to name a few.

Dan the Man, THE MAIDS is very weird.
BK & Panni, I went to the WGA awards 3 of the 4 years I was on the WGA Board of Directors, when I could attend free. But even free, by the fourth year the thrill was definitely gone and we decided we'd rather be in England, which we were. And nothing really compared to the first year when Jon Voight was our dinner companion. I could actually be there this year in an official capacity, helping out, as I am on the media relations committee, but I would still have to shell out a hundred and fifty bucks for a ticket for my wife to sit at a table of strangers alone, while I shunted nominees and presenters about...If I can't drink and party, why go to work? Besides I'm on a deadline.
I will say the writers awards are usually the funniest awards, because writers are wittier and smarter than most actors and directors. I wonder if Hal Kanter will do his usual shtick?
Re: All this weight and plateau talk. Yes, Jennifer, fruit could be undermining your weight loss. But I find actual poundage lost deceptive...because when I diet, I also exercise. Exercising builds muscle which weighs more than fat. Instead of using a scale, my barometers are how my pants fit and stipping myself buck-naked and standing in front of a full-length mirror and deciding if I like what I see or not.
I recommend that everyone exercise if they are dieting (and even if they're not), because if you're dieting without exercising, all you're doing is turning fat flab into skinny flab and not getting toned and building muscle.
Also when you exercise, all you have to do is eat sensibly, not deprive yourself.
The key to weight loss is very, very simple. You burn more calories than you take in.

Re: PayPal & eBay "spoofs" (I wish they'd just call them scams, which is what they are): I frequently DO answer them, putting in usernames like "You're f***ed" and passwords like "See you in Court" or "I'm an Attorney General." Make them work for their living like the rest of us!!

DR WEL: they're getting very clever with these spoofs--reproducing the look of the original websites. One big tipoff--hold your mouse cursor over the hyperlink and see what it says--if it doesn't start with https: (S for secure), then is immediately followed by the name of the website (e.g., https://ebay.com/update, etc.), it's a fraud. It's kind of fun to see what the hyperlinks are (or to look at the header information on the original email). A lot of the spammers are not very bright when it comes to covering their tracks; they used up all their available brain cells replicating the look of the original site! :)

Yes, I really hate these scammers, and I'll bet they've actually fooled a few people, despite the repeated warnings. The first time it ever happened to me was with an AOL scam, and I actually had gone to the page and begun filling in the information, but they hung themselves by asking questions that AOL would NEVER ask - mother's maiden name, stuff they'd need to really access your accounts. SSN (AOL doesn't have or need such info), etc. I closed it down immediately and sent it off to AOL. The way I understand it, the scammers only keep that address up for an hour or two, get what they can, and then change it.

I've received 4 of these in the last 2 days. It's very upsetting.
They show as being from service@paypal.com and they are called "confirm information!".
The scariest part is that if you click on the link, it looks EXACLTY like paypal's real site (except the link is not www.paypal-anything). What's even worse is that the other links on their page are real. So if you click on anything at the bottom, it will take you to the real paypal website.
I always alert paypal's security center whenever I get one of these.
This one is so convincing. I'm just really afraid that people are going to believe it. Although the easiest way to tell it's not real is by the info that they are asking for. Paypal would never ask for your bank info or pin #.
I've only once had a real message asking for info from paypal and that was when my credit card expired. But they always tell you to go directly from their website, to make sure any emails are real.

Jane: I just never do vegetables, so I'm interested to try things. I can eat butter and most sauces on them, I wouldn't mind trying some sort of casserole - just a variety of idea. I used to saute different kinds of squash and onions in butter, and I remember enjoying that.

Keith’s Famous Thai Stir-Fry
18-oz extra firm tofu, cubed
75% Olive oil
25% Sesame oil
In a large pan, braise cubed tofu in oils on medium heat until golden brown on all sides. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels.
50% Canola oil
50% Sesame oil
¼ cup pure Vermont maple syrup
½ cup chunky peanut butter
3 cloves garlic, pressed
1 medium onion, chopped
¼-lb Shitake mushrooms, sliced
¼ to ½ -lb snow peas
1 carrot, grated
¼ to ½ lb broccoli
1-package Japanese Udon Noodles
½ cup honey-roasted peanuts
In a large wok, on medium heat, heat enough oils to coat pan. When oils are hot, add garlic. When lightly brown, add onions. When onions are translucent, add mushrooms.
Continue cooking & stirring for five minutes.
Add maple syrup along with snow peas. Continue cooking and stirring for five minutes.
Add peanut butter along with broccoli and carrots. Continue cooking and stirring for five minutes.
Add Udon Noodles, seasoning packet (that comes with the noodles). ADD TOFU BACK INTO THE STIR-FRY. Continue cooking and stirring for five minutes.

I'm also interested in vegetable recipes. I mostly just steam brocolli ... however, I'm so lazy, I usually just microwave asparagus in a cup (takes like a minute).
I LOVE asparagus, so I should really find some good recipes. I think some sort of vegetable casserole (without potatoes) sounds GREAT. Need to look into that.
And yes DR Jose's recipes are making my mouth water.

Re: All this weight and plateau talk. Yes, Jennifer, fruit could be undermining your weight loss. But I find actual poundage lost deceptive...because when I diet, I also exercise. Exercising builds muscle which weighs more than fat. Instead of using a scale, my barometers are how my pants fit and stipping myself buck-naked and standing in front of a full-length mirror and deciding if I like what I see or not.
I recommend that everyone exercise if they are dieting (and even if they're not), because if you're dieting without exercising, all you're doing is turning fat flab into skinny flab and not getting toned and building muscle.
Also when you exercise, all you have to do is eat sensibly, not deprive yourself.
The key to weight loss is very, very simple. You burn more calories than you take in.
Thanks now that I think about it, I think the fruit WAS stopping the weight loss. But for the past few weeks, I've been more interested in feeling good, rather than losing actual weight.
Yes I almost always go on an exercise binge when I diet. Great advice. But for some reason this time it's been hard.
I like exercising OUTSIDE cause it doesn't feel like execise. In the summer I can bike ride everyday.
But I'm doing pilates everyday if it kills me. But boy is it hard to do it when your body is aching from the day before :)

CHINESE CABBAGE SALAD
(Recipe makes LARGE amount that you can cut in half if you don't want leftovers).
Salad
1 head chopped cabbage
8 green onions thinly sliced
8-tbsp toasted sesame seeds
8-tbsp toasted slivered almonds
2-cups fresh peas (or thawed frozen)
2-pkgs “oriental flavor Top Ramen” noodles (crushed)
Variation: Cube 12-oz package of Extra Firm Tofu and quick-fry in canola oil “seasoned” with crushed garlic cloves. Cook until lightly browned. Drain on paper towels and allow to cool. Add to salad ingredients at time of tossing.
Dressing
6-tbsp sugar
6-tbsp rice vinegar
1-cup canola oil
2 Top Ramen spice packets
1-tsp each salt/pepper
Prepare & Chill dressing:
Mix dressing in a jar suitable for vigorous shaking. (Shake prior to pouring on salad.)
Just before serving mix the greens, nuts, seeds, noodles & dressing.

Bargain Alert! If you have a Dollar Tree store near you and you enjoy vintage movies and tv shows then you might be interested in the $1.00 DVDs that they just got in! I picked up a few titles that I had not seen before...some episodes of MR AND MRS NORTH and BURNS AND ALLEN and a movie called THE GREAT DAN PATCH with Dennis O'Keefe. There were many interesting titles. If I have time tomorrow I might head over and get some of the DR. KILDARE titles that they had. For $1.00 you can't go wrong! And I checked the picture quality and it is all quite acceptable.

Also, DVD covers are generally generated from movie campaign art -- posters, lobby cards, title cards, etc.
Most were done in color, even for Black and White films. The purpose was to dress up the theater in vivid colors. No one would have wanted to go in if the posters and photos were ALL black and white without any color.

Jennifer & Jose. Just today I found Carb Smart Ice Cream bars made by the folks who make Klondike Bars. 5g net carbs per serving. Made with Splenda. I haven't had one yet but I will let you know how they taste.
I've found low carb tea and bread and just all kinds of things. I'm very grateful that I didn't have to give up my tea. I switched to decaff but that is ok. I mostly drink herb teas.
I am wondering how good the ice cream bars are going to be because I've found that I like Splenda in my tea or anything hot but when I tried to use it in ice tea, it had a funny taste. I've taken to just drinking a bottle of water or I put a cap of Real Lemon Juice in a glass and pour the water in the glass and stir it.
I also know what you mean by being "fixed on the numbers on the scale". I know I'm losing inches as well but it's sooo depressing to think you should have lost a couple more and you either are at where you were or (horrors!) have slipped back a pound or two.
I tried on a dress or two today while I was out and about. Big mistake. I'm not ready for new clothes just yet.

You don't know how lucky you are to just have to worry about Shiny shoes, Bruce! If you were a woman, you would have to wear high heels and THEN you would know what pain is.
If we ever meet and you see me in heels, I'm either in pain or will be because I get the most horrible charley horses from them. Just trying them on starts them (at this point I won't mention that I bought 3 pairs of heels today for my upcoming trip to NYC). I'll have to take major pain killers and/or walk the floor most of the night to walk them out. I only wear them on very, very, very special occasions.
Back in the pre carb days, when I was allowed to eat white potatoes, I used to like to take a baking potato and slice it (not all the way) and put slivers of onions in the slices. Then put butter on top with salt and pepper to taste. Wrap them in silver paper and bake. Mmmmm. They were good!
I have to say, without question, Hoss was my very favorite. Even my Mom used to say she could never understand why when Little Joe and Adam were so handsome. But I was never swayed by a handsome face. Hoss was gentle and liked animals and I loved him for it.

The other thing is the price. Like you said, low carb items seem to be overpriced. I don't really want to spend $10 for a loaf of bread. And btw, what does low carb bread taste like?

Then my computrid kept screwing up so I couldn't log on again. I am now going to watch "All That Jazz" whilst eating a Marie Callander Chicken Pot Pie.

Dollartree is one of our biggest customers at work. Go to the candy department and check out the Cartoon Candy Sticks (Spiderman, Flintstones, etc.) and the gummis. Not only do they buy a lot, the pay their bills promptly unlike some other chains that I won't mention.

It always makes me laugh when I hear young people don't like black and white films and don't like letterboxed movies on TV since a certain percentage of music videos are shot black and white and are often letterboxed, and neither seems to phase them then.
As far as I'm concerned, when something is good and grips your attention, you don't even think about those things.

Some of my adult friends can not cope with letter box on their TV screens. Perhaps they see it as a waste of the unused portion of the screen. Sometimes I try and imagine some old favourites being remade in colour but then I think as I am watching them - there is no need of colour at all. Some that spring to mind are "The Card" and "Billy Liar" which I enjoy. I wonder if "King and Country" has had a dVd release. Must check that out as it is my favourite antiwar movie.

Woody and Brucer made the trek from the bottom of Delaware - what the hell, only a 5 hour round trip... - and they brought red roses, which they flang on the stage at the end of the Traviata aria, hollering BRAVA! BRAVA, DIVA!! It got a huge laugh. Now, they are on their way home - I expect they will check in once they arrive some time after midnight here, after 9 where most of y'all are.

Good Evening! - Part 1
Well, on a sort of last minute decision I decided to catch the matinee of a children's show that some of my friends and students are currently in. (Please excuse the dangling participle.) The matinee was at 2:30. I decided to see the show at 1:40. So... After getting things cleaned up around the apartment, and myself cleaned up too, I hopped in my car at 2:14, and I was at the theater by 2:23! *I always forget just how "small" Richmond is - everything is pretty close by. And since Ukrop's (my favorite local grocery store chain) is a sponsor for the theatre, I was able to get a $4.00 discount on my ticket just by presenting my Valued Customer card! -Oh, and since it was a children's show - and a matinee - I wasn't so rushed once I got there since they left a "cushion" of time for latecomers and fidgety chidren.
The show was The Magic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. It was written by Chad Henry based of the books by Betty McDonald. What a very pleasant surprise. And a very nice way to spend the afternoon. I had never really heard of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, but after today, I may have to check out some of the books for myself.
It's basically a series of scenes where Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle finds various creative - very creative - ways to solve various problems that parents are having with their children and children are having with their parents. Some of these problems include a boy who daydreams too much and his family who can't appreciate his active imagination; a pair of sisters who have a bad case of "quarrelitis"'; a young girl who doesn't like doing the dishes; and a boy who refuses to clean his room. And as the title of the show states, there is some magic involved here and there. :-)
Oh, and the music! Some very nice songs! My smile would get bigger and wider throughout the show. -And I have to assume the songs were also written by Chad Henry since there's no credit in the program for a composer and/or lyricist.
Afterwards, I hung out while the cast signed autographs for the younger audience members - and not so young audience members. There were some people in the show I hadn't seen in years, and it was nice to actually see and hug them in person - rather than just IMing them. Nice performances all around.

Good evening! - Part 2
Once I got back from the show, I finally cleaned and prepped the head of lettuce I bought the other day. -I love my OXO salad spinner! I also noticed that the package of turkey sausage I had bought was due to "expire" today, so I put the links in a pan and cooked them up. Then after some phone calls, I headed over to Steve's place - sausage links in hand - for an impromtu pot-luck. Steve provided the salad, and I provided the sausage.
(Hmmm, there's some real dirty joke hidden somewhere in there.) ;) TCB?...
Well, we supped on salad and sausage, and watched "Trading Spaces". They re-broadcast Hildy's "flower bathroom". WOW!
Now... The one danger with heading over to Steve's apartment is that Steve tends to keep various sweets and treats around. Chocolates, nut brittles, cookies, ice cream, etc., etc.... So... The ice cream sure was good! I don't really feel bad about "slipping" - I just really wanted a treat tonight, and after a week of "being good"... And as long as I don't head back over to Steve's tomorrow.. or the next day... I should be fine. ;)

So, now I'm back home, posting here and watching SNL. Christina Aguilera is hosting, and I have to say, she's not doing too bad a job at all with the sketches she's in. Her Samantha from "Sex & The City" was pretty good.
I've also lit a scented candle since the apartment smells like italian turkey sausage! Ah, well...

We watched "Spirited Away" last night. Colin's first viewing. It is so more satisfying as a film than many non animated movies - so many layers there. I suspect that OZ children would not have the patience with the story line and its length. I shall watch again (another first for Colin) "Castle In The Sky" which is at least its equal. We have "introduced" the "Triplets Of Belville" to a few people now and it has been well received. I hope it gets an Australian movie release. I think my next purchase will be more animation - "Graveyard Of The Fireflies".

Well, as I suspected, a bittersweet evening, but really fun at times. We did win, David Wechter and John McLaughlin (the only writers who did it under WGA auspices) went up, and David graciously gave me a big, big thank you, which was swell. The Showtime people were all really lovely to me as well, and the Exec Producer of the show came up to me and hugged me and said, "Let's go cry in the corner" since both he and I should have joined up and we'd have a little statue, too. Still, it was fun to win, even if we weren't up there. I'll have complete details in tomorrow's notes. Now, let's get us some postin' goin' on, shall we?

I don't mind letterbox so long as I have a large tv screen to watch it on and the picture quality is really good. And as for black and white vs. color I certainly don't mind either one. I don't even give it any thought, frankly. Never have. I do get peeved when people tell me they don't like to watch black and white movies. I just don't get it.

Source material by Horton Foote, screenplay by Lillian Hellman, directed by Arthur Penn and featuring a rousing score by John Barry. I haven't seen it in years - I do recall it's a bit turgid, but I'm interested to see it again.

I fear I've been E&T today. Cousins from the east coast are here visiting, so a schlep down to Orange County so my mom could be involved was required.
I saw Clutter last night at the ColonyTheatre, Dear Reader Panni (and any other Dear Readers who are interested.) This is a new play about the Collyer brothers, who died in their trash-packed brownstone in New York in 1947. An enjoyable evening, but not Pulitzer Prize (or even Pullet Surprise) material by a longshot. I thought the parallel story of the two policemen was rather lame. I do believe the performance of Patrick Richwood, the actor who played the foppish Collyer brother, was quite good, though.
Dear Reader Donna: Unless Miss Andrea Marcovicci has figured out how to be in two places at one time, she will be appearing at the theatre on the Pepperdine campus in Malibu on March 19 and not in Long Beach. I should know, as I am holding a ticket for said concert.

;D I LOVED this concert!! ;D Okay, the fact that I've been a fan of Stephen Schwartz and Debbie (Shapiro) Gravitte for a long time makes me biased in my opinion of the concert, but not by much. Stephen started the concert with "Chanson" from The Baker's Wife then "Crowded Island" from his "Reluctant Pilgrim" CD. Then Debbie came out and sang a song, then Scott. They were all on stage for the rest of the 1-1/2 hour concert...with no intermission. They sang songs from most, if not all of Stephen's shows, including the duet "As Long As You're Mine" and "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, as well as a couple more songs from Stephen's solo CDs. Debbie sang "Meadowlark" and shortly into it flubbed the words. She was so cute, though. ;D They had to start over, but the audience loved it. She totally got the sympathy of the crowd. Other than that little goober, she nailed it! Overall, the audience loved the evening. I couldn't be happier! ;D ;D ;D ;D
I helped sell CDs before and after the concert and all three came out and signed for audience members (and me!) for as long as there were people waiting in line...except Debbie. She had a flight to catch and had to leave a little earlier than the guys. But I got to meet her and Stephen and Scott. When people came up to us (there was another woman selling) before the show to look at the CDs, most said something like "I'll wait until after the show to see if I like him." They didn't know who he was! These people just don't get out! Anyway, I also got this (BK produced) CD signed with my spiffy SILVER Sharpie pen (that no one else had):
