Elmore, did you read that bio of Sigmund Romberg that came out a few years ago? You could the same with Herbert, I'm sure. It was part of a musical theater series. I think Yale was the publisher. I'll check when I get home if you are interested.

I have it, DRJohn G; I think I have all the books in that Yale series. The Kern book got me into hot water around six years ago and Stephen Banfiled, the author, got an angry email from me. I don;t dislike Banfield, but he did something bad in the book and I got the burn.

One article about my cousin Taulbee and his company......I didn't realize he was a member of the SuperBowl Host Committee!!!

That's a neat thing to learn, DR JRand61

More and more my local coffee shop is resembling a mother's meeting place. Young mothers with babies and young children congregate and sit and chat for hours on end leaving little room for everyone else. Sorry to be a curmudgeon but I don't want infants bawling into my ear when I'm trying to have a relaxing time reading the newspaper and drinking a coffee.

So the problem is International!!

And I thought it was just a British thing!

That sounds wonderful, Larry.  Hoping a book deal materializes!

Thanks, DR FJL! I have to say that, while I could do a book on BABES IN TOYLAND, there's no way I could to a book on Herbert; I don't know his music beyond his "big shows" well enough. There are peple I would consider better qualified for an over-all assessment, but no one knows BABES IN TOYLAND better than I!

I was lucky to get to all those scrapbooks on the original production before they started crumbling to dust.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't have any of the other volumes (they haven't shown up on the bargain table yet). And while the Romburg book is repetitive with little in the way of writing style, I'm glad I at least have some facts about the man and I do like some of the theory put forth, even if I dismiss a lot of the theorizing as bunk.

The Romberg Book Is Repetitive is the title of my new detective novel.

I plan to write a sequel titled The Romberg Book That Kicked the Hornet's Neck.

I just saw on CNN.com that James Farentino died.

Is that why you were talking (and posting photos) about him earlier?

Oh my.  I watched an Alfred Hitchcock Hour last night titled DEATH SCENE that featured a very very VERY handsome young James Farentino - I had forgotten how strikingly handsome he was.....and then this morning....this:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-57365598-10391698/actor-james-farentino-73-dies-of-heart-failure/

and he was married to Michele Lee. Obits usually mention this when an ex is usually well known.

DR ELMOORE

Are you sure he died in 1929? I looked him up in the IBDB and they have a credit for him for Parl Avenue 1946. Could it be another actor with the same name?

Yes. I am sure that William Norris died in 1929. I've seen his obituaries. Was my sentence unclear?

Charles Purcell, who was in DEAREST ENEMY, was in Park Avenue. William Norris died in 1929:

I did a two-mile jog just to get back into it, and then had some bacon and eggs and a half a waffle.

Just been watching Ken Russell’s 'Song of Summer', his TV film about Delius which I hadn't seen for many years. What a beautiful, well-crafted, moving film - far better than most of his later feature films.

Nicol Williamson has died. I know he could be a drunken lout and a dangerous one at that, but I always enjoyed him as Sherlock in "The 7% Solution" and in "Robin and Marian."

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that. I always liked him. I remember him particularly from the '60s when he was much in demand in films such as The Reckoning, Inadmissible Evidence and The Bofors Gun in which he gave very strong performances.

He was Sherlock in Robin and Marian?  ;)  Robin and Marian must have been much, much older than I remembered them being.  :)

Went out to lunch with my mother today.  She was a little out of sorts, a phenomenon that is getting more frequent the older she gets.

My mind is fried. I've gotten through the notes for the first disc and part of the second, thirty songs in all; seventy-two to go!

I'm happy with what I've written, though, so that's good.

We also had a very good thing happen with DEAREST ENEMY this afternoon.

I noticed her name missing.  I found one that mentioned her as the mother of his son David.  Odd for sure.  It seemed to me they were married a long time.
