DR Jane - THIS (http://gorgeoustown.typepad.com/lex_culinaria/2005/02/glens_mamma_ros.html) is the salad dressing I ended up making. It was tangy and delicious, though I'd prefer it didn't contain the sugar!

If not..............
Then it would be Adam 12 or Dragnet

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I actually slept rather well last night - I believe my impromptu three-mile afternoon walk may have had something to with that - and I happened to wake up before my alarm. I guess I'm going through my "morning person" phase.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Were "Starsky & Hutch" cops? -I just always remember that one clip of them - that ended up in their opening credits - of one of them standing in the sun-roof of the car in their underwear. ;) Otherwise...
"Cop Rock" - ::)
"Hill Street Blues"

As for Apple Brown Betty...
Hmm... :)
And then there are all the very close relatives of "Betty": Crumble, Cobbler, Crisp, Buckle (usually with berries), etc., etc., etc.

Happy Birthday, Angela!!!!!
-
Good Morning, Ben. Have you had your oatmeal today?
-
Good Morning, Birthday Twin. Please be sure to give DD Miss Blue Moon a few good pets for me today.
-
And speaking of oatmeal, I have to clean my bowl and the pot I cooked it in. And then it will be time for me to head in for today's round of "Untitled" auditions. I'm seeing Cry Baby tonight, so I may end up being E&T for most of today - since there's no internet access at the Equity Building. I hope everyone has a wonderful penultimate Monday of March!

Thank you, DR JOSE....I will. Have a great work day today.

It's lonely over here in the Anti-AIP corner, DR TCB, but all are welcome.
-
DR FJL I just looked at the Phoenix production history and I don't see HERRINGBONE listed, I don't know what show I am thinking of, but it sounded like HERRINGBONE in the reviews....now I can't find a title that makes me remember anything...oh well....last night I dreamed I was doing SINGIN' IN THE RAIN there, so who knows what's going on.
-
Some Monday this and that to get done.

Good morning, all! I may have turned off the lights at 11:10 but between the neighbor above me, the noisy students hanging out on the steps of the church across the street, and other noises, I wasn't unconcscious before 12:30. I am not happy about this.
Today, I have a trek to MTI to look at some scores, and that should take up most of my late morning and early afternoon. Beyond that, who knows?
-
Monday morning greetings! Yesterday was a long day of family-ing, which included dinner for 7 at our home. For someone who usually tries to do nothing on her 1-day weekends, I sure was busy - nonstop from 7am-10pm. It will be a challenge to stay awake here at work.
-
Oh, welcome to page 2 - I'm too tired to dance.

Thanks for your help with salad dressings, DR JoseSPiano.

Morning all. Yes, Jose I did consume my oatmeal. I put cranberries, raisins and dried apricots in also.
Anthony is also off for a day of auditions. He has many lined up this week.
I, meanwhile, sit with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 2007 Grant List.
I will now take a break and eat a clementine.
-
And the word of the day is: DOYEN!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING
-
Just about to begin another day of familying.
-
I spoke to MTI, so I'm heading down to see them now. Once I get my scores together and a couple of pencils, I'm outa here.
I ad an hour long phone conversation with my brother Randy yesterday when I called to wish them a happy Easter and to learn yesterday's big dinner menu. Jo is such a good cook! Anyway, he had tons of questions about family history, vague memories he had from the late 1950s - he was born in June 1957 - and it was fun talking to him. I want to go back to visit for a week and chill out, so please, please, please keep the payment vibes rolling in! There are two checks I'm still expecting and I could use them in the bank and not in the aether.
Aether or . . .
-
And The Song Of The Day Is: I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING
I'm still puzzled, DR ArnoldMBrockman, how this daily song selection is made. For instance, I would have thought yesterday's selection would have been Irving Berlins's classic song, or perhaps Rosemary Clooney's "Egbert the Easter Egg" or "Here comes Peter Cottontail!."
-
The song of the day is related to the word of the day, isn't it Mr. Brockman
-
Payment vibes for DR Elmore!
I think a week in Ohio, being pampered by Jo and your friends is just what you need.

I'm not sure - was DAVID COP-A-FEEL a cop show, or something else?

Must have been something else

Good morning!
We were supposed to have showers today, but not from the looks of the sky right now: bright blue with a few wispy clouds. It's a beautiful Easter Monday!
-
For those who are interested in the HBO series JOHN ADAMS but don't subscribe to HBO, it's coming out on DVD on June 10.
-
I love Apple Brown Betty and almost any other dessert you can make with apples.
-
TOD:
Yes, among my earliest TV memories are DRAGNET, BOSTON BLACKIE, and HIGHWAY PATROL.
In the 60s I loved ADAM-12 and was glad to welcome DRAGNET back IN COLOR!
Yep, Starsky and Hutch were indeed cops. Loved that show, but more just to swoon over the two leads, both of whom I found super-sexy.
Nowadays, LAW & ORDER in its many guises ranks as my favorite show with cops, but so many of the procedurals I watch have some variation of law enforcement as a primary hinge to the action: MEDIUM, BONES, NCIS, NEW AMSTERDAM, the CSIs. It's a LONG list.
-
I'm still puzzled, DR ArnoldMBrockman, how this daily song selection is made. For instance, I would have thought yesterday's selection would have been Irving Berlins's classic song, or perhaps Rosemary Clooney's "Egbert the Easter Egg" or "Here comes Peter Cottontail!."
The Song of the Day Corresponds to The Word Of The Day-NOT the Holiday of the Day

TV Reminders:
MEDIUM (with the first of yet another two-parter)
the CBS line-up of comedies and CSI: MIAMI are all new episodes
NEW AMSTERDAM
and for those reality-show junkies: DANCING WITH THE STARS and THE BACHELOR.
-
DR George mentioned watching it last night, and I'll see it at some point today: last night's DIRT episode. From the previews, it looked like it'd be a fun episode. Such a fun, guilty pleasure.
-
I'll take the day off reviewing unless something intriguing comes in the mail (I'm expecting the Blu-ray of COYOTE UGLY, not something I'm looking forward to), and watch one of the Blu-rays or HD-DVDs in two stacks that I'm gradually winnowing down. I'll probably watch another NUMB3RS episode, too.
-
DR JRand:
Gene Kelly -- 10; JRand -- 0.
And please never fear for one moment that Kelly has anything on you in the "pretentious" department. You will go on and on and on...and I don't think a lot of folks share your assessment of the man and his talent.
That's not to say you don't have every right to dislike him, but to take so many opportunities to discredit someone who actually HAD a career in dance and has been acclaimed for it and actually MADE a very successful career out of it seems rather spiteful, snide and sad.
But that's just my opinion.
-
For those who are interested in the HBO series JOHN ADAMS but don't subscribe to HBO, it's coming out on DVD on June 10.
Yay! Just in time for me to watch it while recovering from the foot surgery that I have scheduled for June 11!

Re: Brown Betty, and other such Good Eats, I now bring you the transcript of a scene from the Good Eats episode, Cobbled Together (http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season9/cobbler/cobbler_trans.htm) - set in a diner.
ALTON BROWN: So, what do we actually know about cobbler? Well, we know that cobbler was born of English plum pudding. And we know that it’s called "cobbler" because the top of the finished dough resembles cobblestones. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
DEB DUCHON, NUTRITIONAL ANTHROPOLOGIST, dressed as a waitress: Actually, it’s called "cobbler" because it’s hastily assembled. It’s cobbled together. We also know that, once the cobbler concept reached the American shores, it diversified and spread like a virus on steroids.
AB: Deb, what’s a Nutritional Anthropologist like you doing in a place like this?
DD: Shhhh. I’m doing research. Do you mind?
AB: Oh.
DD: [Louder] So what’ll you have, Sir?
AB: Oh, well, I was thinking about cobbler.
DD: Well, we have Brown Betty.
AB: Who’s she?
DD: That’s baked fruit with layers of buttered bread crumbs.
AB: Okay, uh, what’s a buckle?
DD: That’s fruit cooked with yellow cake batter.
AB: A crisp?
DD: Oh, that is fruit topped with a mixture of butter, sugar, flour, and nuts or oats. It’s known as a 'crumble' in England.
AB: And yet these are all still cobblers. Okay, I have to ask about "the grunt".
DD: Love grunt. That is fruit topped with biscuit dough, ...
COOK: [off camera] Order up, Deb.
DD: ... and cooked on top of the stove to create a dumpling-like texture. It’s called "grunt" because that’s the sound it makes when it cooks.
COOK: [off camera] Order up, Deb.
AB: Very charming. What about a "pan dowdy"?
DD: That’s cobbler in which the dough is pressed into the fruit, creating an uneven, ...
COOK: [off camera] Deb! Order up!
DD: ... or dowdy appearance. [yelling, to the cook] KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON, HALE! I’LL BE RIGHT THERE! [back to AB] So, what will you have?
AB: Um, can I have just a minute to consider my order?
DD: Whatever. [leaves]
AB: Wow, she didn’t mention that there was "surly tart" on today’s menu.
When it comes to meatballs, I could refer you to Good Eats: Great Balls of Meat, but that's another episode (http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season9/meatball/meatball_trans.htm) (as AB would say).
-
TOD: COPS -- the only reality show, imho. Also, Jail, when I remember to turn on the tv mid-week.
-
I never thought of myself as a fan of cop shows...but, by golly, now that I think of it, I guess I love a lot of them!
My earliest cop show memories are of DRAGNET, MOD SQUAD, THE FBI, and ADAM 12.
Having seen them more recently, I have to say I still love DRAGNET and ADAM-12...not so much THE FBI. MOD SQUAD I shall shortly find out about as it is now on DVD.
As they have been trickling out onto DVD I have had opportunities to see many episodes of vintage shows like M-SQUAD (love), FEDERAL MEN (love, love), RACKET SQUAD (love), HIGHWAY PATROL (hmmm...it's Ok sometimes), STATE TROOPER (it's Ok), and PUBLIC DEFENDER (love, love).
I have about 40 or so episodes of BOSTON BLACKIE on DVD, but have only watched 2 episodes so far, and not enought to decide if I like it a lot or just a little bit.
-
RLP, why do you get so riled when JRand expresses his dislike of a performer? He is just funnin' for crying out loud! Jack knows of my love (love, love) for Gene Kelly, but heck, I don't mind his making with the remarks about him.
Now, just calm down young man!
-
Well you premium cable folks may be getting John, but I am trudging through 150 years of Adams history in a review copy of the multi-disc ADAMS CHRONICLES. Still on the John-Abigail section.
-
And though I love a lot of Gene Kelly's films, I must second JR's opinion about AAIP. I just never "got" that one. Sorry.
-
And the word of the day is: DOYEN!
This was heard over the telephones at the local old folk's home:
"Hi, Nancy!"
"Hi, Helen!"
"What's the doin', fellow DOYEN?"
"What's the tale, Nightingale?"
"Have you heard about Hugo and Kim?"
And so on.
-
I'd supply the choreography for the above for the Page Three Dance, but none of those geezers at the Old Folk's Home are up to it any more. :'(
-
I also just finished an enjoyable UK series with Tom Conti originally entitled "Donovan," but which has been rechristened "DNA" for its DVD release, no doubt to lure acronym-titled crime procedural fans to its shores.
-
Thanks, DR SWW! :D Good to have all of those definitions in one spot.

Yes, you are correct derBrucer. Vanilla ice cream is best when served.
"Vanilla ice cream is a dish best served cold." - a Khan Noonien Singh reference.
-
And as for meatballs made of pudding...
Well, just don't forget that the proof is in the pudding.
In it! :)
-
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is certainly not my favorite Gene Kelly picture either, but there's a lot to like in it, at least for me.
-
Favorite Gene Kelly: all three films he did with Judy Garland, all of which contain career highlights for him.
IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER
ON THE TOWN
BRIGADOON
(Of course) SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
I like all of these more than AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.
-
Now I must head downstairs and get ready to go to lunch. Best friend John's two children have a school holiday today, so they'll be joining us for lunch, and we're going to a pizza buffet, so I'll be back later about 20 pounds heavier.
;D
-
RLP, why do you get so riled when JRand expresses his dislike of a performer? He is just funnin' for crying out loud! Jack knows of my love (love, love) for Gene Kelly, but heck, I don't mind his making with the remarks about him.
Now, just calm down young man!
There's having an opinion and then there's engaging in an ongoing litany of bilious spite.
We get it. He dislikes Gene Kelly.
But to call Kelly pretentious (!), and to dismiss his dancing in AAIP as dumb, is really asking for a response from someone who disagrees with him.
You are far more understanding than I, MBarnum. JRand can be a choreographer, have his own sensibilities about what is good and not good, and he can dislike the dancing of Gene Kelly, but if he's going to put himself out there and make just plain ugly remarks about it, it begs a retort.
If Jrand is free to make such remarks, I see no reasons why I should not be free to do the same.
Of course, he knows how I react to such pronouncements about successful celebrities and will no doubt have a good laugh that he's once again baited me with his wry musings.
-
I never missed an episode of NYPD BLUE, but I also like THE SHIELD, THE WIRE and HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREETS.
I guess I tend to lean toward the "grittier" shows.
It's been so long ago, but I THINK that the first TV cop show I ever saw was RACKET SQUAD. Interestingly, years later, it's star (Reed Hadley) became one of my very first publicity clients.
-
DR Jane - THIS (http://gorgeoustown.typepad.com/lex_culinaria/2005/02/glens_mamma_ros.html) is the salad dressing I ended up making. It was tangy and delicious, though I'd prefer it didn't contain the sugar!
Sing, I'd had much success reducing or eliminating the sugar from recipes that I felt didn't need it.
-
I remember
having meeting a cousin of Mr. Kelly's, who looked a great deal like him. They apparently didn't really care for each other, mutually.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
DR singdaw - Salad dressings are very forgiving. Next time - and there will be a next time - leave out the sugar - and the salt - during your initial mix and whisk. Taste it, and then season from there. The parmesan cheese and the ketchup may give you enough salty flavor on their own, and the ketchup and balsamic will also contribute some sweetness. If it still does need a bit of either component, add it accordingly. If you'd rather not use (white) sugar, you can use turbinado, honey, maybe even maple syrup (sparingly!).
Personally, I prefer my salad dressings on the vinegary side, otherwise, it seems like I just poured some dessert topping on my mesclun. Also keep in mind, that a lot of classic salad dressing recipes are over-seasoned on purpose since they're usually served chilled, and the cold mutes the flavors.
Excellent suggestion! You may not feel that sugar is needed at all. (I used to be quite the cook at one time. You'd never know it now, though!)
-
Interesting list for Gene Kelly films, DR Matt. For myself, I'm the reverse on AAIP and Brigadoon - mainly because I genuinely don't care for the latter's story or music, which mars my interest in Mr. Kelly's work in the film. Horseracing.
-
An Ongoing Litany of Bilious Spite--that's the title of my next....oh, never mind. ;)
-
Macrobiotic cuisine uses brown rice syrup as a sweetener. I quite like it. Ever used it, Jose or Woody?
-
And though I love a lot of Gene Kelly's films, I must second JR's opinion about AAIP. I just never "got" that one. Sorry.
The subject, JMK, is Gene Kelly, rather than the film AAIP, which has a rather weak script but features spectacular music and dancing, IMO.
I don't care what anyone thinks of the film.
-
It sounds like a whole lot of laundry went on yesterday by our DRs.
-
Macrobiotic cuisine uses brown rice syrup as a sweetener. I quite like it. Ever used it, Jose or Woody?
Frankly, this is the first I've heard of the stuff!
-
Former DR Aura18 is a macrobiotic maven and used to regale us with recipes via long telephonic conversations. (What am I, BK all of a sudden?).
-
Frankly, this is the first I've heard of the stuff!
Re: brown rice syrup:
I like it because it provides some sweetness without tasting sugary or being too sweet. My preference is for foods that are rich, but not overly sweet.
-
The subject, JMK, is Gene Kelly,
Don't tell that to Frank Gilroy.

I am beginning to think that maybe I have never seen AN AMERICAN IN PARIS....I do love the music, however.

A couple of days ago, DR Ron P posted -
And "Killing Me Softly" was a song off a mostly forgotten (low-selling) album that Clint Eastwood had and used forn "Play Misty For Me", thus making it "famous" as "Golden Girls" did its borrowed song.
Close, but no banana.
The song used by Clint Eastwood in PMFM is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
Both songs were recorded by Roberta Flack, which probably accounts for your delusion confusion. (And, yes, her recording of the song was for the most part unheard at the time it was initially released, so you at least got that part of the story right.)
-
Catching up with the posts of yore is so much fun! ;D
-
[size=20]PAGE 4!!!![/size]
-
Now I can't get "True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted out of my head... :-\
-
Again, from a couple of days ago, this time posted by JRand -
I watched The Rookies every week. Michael Ontkean became a lifelong favorite actor of mine beginning with this show....and his battles with producer Aaron Spelling to wear his hair CURLY.....quite the news back then.
For the life of me, I cannot imagine what Aaron Spelling would have looked like with curly hair, nor why it would matter so much to Michael Ontkean.
;D
-
Re: Killing Me Softly. The first recording was actually by Lori Lieberman, for whom the song was written and upon whose idea the lyric was based. Her version went nowhere.
Now here's your real trivia question: whom does the song reference?
Hint: it's not Warren Beatty.
-
Re: Aaron Spelling. A very young Spelling turns up as a country yokel in an early Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode with Joseph Cotten (IIRC--if not Cotten, someone like him) as a paralyzed car accident victim that everyone thinks is dead.
-
Now I can't get "True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted out of my head... :-\
For me, it's "That's How You Know." Best staging of a musical sequence I've seen in years.
-
And how cool (no pun intended) is it that some of the senior men in that sequence were in the film version of WSS?
-
"That's How You Know." Best staging of a musical sequence I've seen in years.
That it is!! [ In the movie; NOT on the Academy Awards. ;) ]
I am almost considering upgrading to Blu-Ray just so that I can view the branching feature which addresses all the Disney homages and references contained within the film.
-
Matt H's turn -
My goodness - TORCHWOOD. Almost a comedy of errors tonight and yet exciting and scary a bit, too. Really ran the gamut this week.
Wonder if we'll find out more about Jack and that photo we looked at with him. Perhaps DOCTOR WHO fanatics can explain that picture to those of us who are ignorant.
Whovians on their boards are also debating who the young lady in the photo might be. Some have suggested it is the elderly scientist from the first season episode "Small Worlds," but I think not - Jack is likely to have had many relationships over the decades he's been around, and for him to return to a former wife and say he's his own decendant would be too cruel - easier if they were just lovers. Jack's history is supposed to be enigmatic, so this is just one more puzzle piece.
-
Re: Killing Me Softly.
Now here's your real trivia question: whom does the song reference?
I know that now! But only because I went and looked it up. Interesting!
-
Tonight on tv for me, DANCING WITH THE STARS, and DAMAGES (which airs here on monday nights).
I have already seen tonight's MEDIUM (no spoilers). It is a to be continued episode (part 1) and i enjoyed it thoroughly.
-

I found it difficult to work with, though I WANTED to like it. Brown rice syrup is much easier.
-
I know that now! But only because I went and looked it up. Interesting!
And may I add that Sergio Mendes and Brasil '77 do a respectable, if somewhat bland, version on their "Love Music" LP/CD from 1973. Some nice Lydian Rhodes stuff from Sergio on the interludes.

For those who are interested in the HBO series JOHN ADAMS but don't subscribe to HBO, it's coming out on DVD on June 10.
I'm finding his life so interesting that I think I'll buy the biography and read it.
I'm back from MTI; saw a few friends, looked at some orchestrations, and I'm ready to conquer something, if not the world.
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up.
-
Obviously we all have strong opinions about things, and some of them are obviously going to push someone's buttons - certainly I think some of my opinions push buttons occasionally, but I do always try to temper my opinions by making sure my tone is even-keeled and that I'm just expressing MY opinion and that others' opinions may differ, which is fine.
So, the good thing about this board is that normally we're all sensitive about it - sometimes not. It's all horse racing, and let's just try to keep the tone nice on all sides. :)
-
Thanks for the salad dressing recipe. I printed it out and will try it.
I recently found a really delicious salad dressing recipe. It's supposed to be like Olive Garden. I really like it.
1/2 C Mayonnaise
1/3 C White Vinegar
1 tsp vegetable oil (i use olive oil)
2 tbsp corn syrup (you can use less)
2 tbsp parmesan cheese
2 tbsp romano cheese
1 clove minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
1/2 tsp parsley flakes
1 tbsp lemon juice
mix in blender (i use a hand blender).
-
Tone on the Internet is the single hardest thing to decipher, at least for me, because there are times when I think my joking around is so obvious, but there's always someone who doesn't get it, sometimes multiple people.
-
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is certainly not my favorite Gene Kelly picture either, but there's a lot to like in it, at least for me.
I must confess that I've never seen all of the film, but I find Irene Sharaf one of the most overrated designers in theatre. I think her costumes for the concluding ballet are awesomely ugly.
-
I think i will go eat some leftover turkey now!
-
Oh and if anyone loves the McDonald "special" Big Mac sauce. I tried this and it is quite tasty.
1/2 cup mayo
2 tbsp french dressing
2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon finely minced white onion
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp sald.
Mix well.
-
I agree with DR MattH that MEDIUM is one of the best shows on tv now. I also agree that this is such a wonderfully portrayed family. I can't even imagine what the show would be like without the kids. They really make the show for me!
-
I am beginning to think that maybe I have never seen AN AMERICAN IN PARIS....I do love the music, however.
Mikey, Georges Guetary is in the movie with Mr Kelly.
-
And how cool (no pun intended) is it that some of the senior men in that sequence were in the film version of WSS?

Watching the Enchantedextras, I was wondering...
Do you think Stephen Schwartz resents [even the teeniest, tiniest bit] that he wasn't asked to write the music? It seems pretty clear that he and Mencken work well together, and it may be that since there's big money involved, he doesn't really care. But I'd think that if he had his choice, he'd prefer to write the music, too.
-
I think Schwartz has quite a lot on his plate as it is.
Among his current projects is an opera, Seance On a Wet Afternoon, commissioned to open on October 31st, 2009, by Opera Santa Barbara. Sure, that's a ways away, but not really, when you think about it. The first workshop, at American Opera Projects, was held just last January.
Plus he's got his concert schedule.
-
Euphemism? ;D
Fact.

Euphemism? ;D
When I was watching the deleted scenes, there was the shot of the two old ladies at the ball, and I thought, Is that Helen Stenborg? Well, it was, and I totally missed that fact until this weekend. Helen is Barney Hughes' widow and one of my alltime favorite people in this world. I need to call her, and I may just do that right now.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR ANGELA!
HOPE YOUR DAY IS SPECIAL!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EX DR BEEKAY!
-
Well, I called Helen and left a message. I hope that she's okay. Last time I saw her was two years ago and she seemed awfully frail. I didn't see her at Barney's memorial service, but her phone message sounds good.
I was afraid, after Barney's death, that she would move into a home; she may be staying with her son Doug Hughes. I've known her since she was playing Aunt Sally in FIFTH OF JULY, and she's one of my favorite people in the City, as was Barney, not just because she's a wonderful lady but she reminds me enormously of my mother's sister Dorothy, my favorite aunt.

DRLaura, cute Easter card :)
-
DR Singdaw, thanks for the salad dressing recipe-it looks interesting. I’m not a fan of tangy so the sugar works for me.
I agree with DR Jose and would add turbinado sugar to taste.

The first cop show I remember was the UNTOUCHABLES, or rather, my parents coming home, finding me NOT in bed at 10 pm and sending right upstairs saying, the Untouchables is for Grownups. There's was a lotta talk back then about it being so Violent. I was reminded of it recently, watching the APARTMENT on TMC, when one of the floozies using Mr Lemmon's digs, says I gotta go watch Bob Stack(on Thurs?)...Fave Cop shows are Hill ST Blues, NYPD Blue, and THE WIRE.....Yesterday was a strange Easter, felt ill, but at the last minute caught the 530 mass across the street, grabbed two plain burgers from McDonalds, and watched SHAUN OF THE DEAD..Film Fave Simon Pegg has a new flick coming out next week, directed by David Schwimmer. I'll be there.
-
DR SWW-I hope you are enjoying your day of rest and feeling better-VIBES TO YOU!
-
DR Brian, I'll be watching for a report on the new Simon Pegg film.
-
Why wasn't Idina Menzel's deleted song ("Enchanted") included as a bonus in the Enchanted DVD? That was a glaring omission.
-
I was watching a TV show with my young nieces called "Johnny and the Sprites," which starts with a very catchy theme song. For some reason, I saw the closing credits...and the song was written by Stephen Schwartz! I just about fell out of my chair.
I don't recall anybody mentioning his song on Saturday Night Live recently between Amy Adams and Kristen Wiig, "What Is This Feeling?" (from Wicked). It was quite funny.

Thanks Sindgdaw!
As of this morning Bryan's loft is in "PENDING"!
The buyers have two days to submit approval for a loan, and 8 more days for an inspection. Then we can relax some until the closing.
-
Great timing, Keith arrived home just minutes ahead of the plumber. Now he has gone out in the rain & cold to discuss the heater.

Is Helen Stenborg any relation to Jim?

Obviously we all have strong opinions about things, and some of them are obviously going to push someone's buttons - certainly I think some of my opinions push buttons occasionally, but I do always try to temper my opinions by making sure my tone is even-keeled and that I'm just expressing MY opinion and that others' opinions may differ, which is fine.
So, the good thing about this board is that normally we're all sensitive about it - sometimes not. It's all horse racing, and let's just try to keep the tone nice on all sides. :)
In other words, this forum is not the place for bitch-ass-ness

Oy, I am in customer service HELL trying to upgrade my kids' X Box Live account to Gold. They don't speak or understand English and insist on reading (poorly, I might add) from scripts that have nothing to do with the problem. I just called Microsoft Corporate Headquarters where I am sure I am the topic of some discussion right now. :)
-
Is Helen Stenborg any relation to Jim?
Nope.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Stenborg
She and Barney appeared together on a great HOMICIDE episode "In Search of Crimes Past" (Season 3) and I should buy the season on DVD just to have their episode. I don't think there's any other footage of them working together.

The thermostat on the hot water was broken-EASY FIX! :D We should have hot water in an hour.

EASY FIX! :D We should have hot water in an hour.
Hoo and Ray!!!! :)

Just had a good conversation with an important person.
-
Gee - actually, I didn't even think that DR RLP would post a response to my rantings. What someone thinks one way or the other about anything I write here on HHW is NOT my first consideration in what I write and post.
I am a bit non plussed that he would say that MY own career in choreography and dance is NOTHING and means NOTHING when in fact, I have and will continue to do quite well, though never reaching the heights of fame of Mr Kelly.
I stand by what I say. The point of my post is that after reading some things about Gene Kelly from people (including DR RLP) here on HHW, whose opinions I certainly respect, and seeing that AAIP was on television on Saturday night, I wanted to see it again and perhaps look at it differently. I was just reporting that my opinion remained unchanged.
I am glad he has fans, I am glad his dancing is appreciated by many, just include me out - and I will say it as often as I wish - well, at least as often as I bother to think about it.
-
Just had a good conversation with an important person.
My phone didn't ring. :D

Still thinking about jogging.

Wow DRJANE....what a great slogan that would make:

For all DR's on a lighter note:
The new husband of my niece Emily who received many HHW vibes late last year, Ryan, had his surgery at Johns Hopkins today and is doing fine. All cancer was removed and the bladder is intact, to put it indelicately - thanks again to all for thinking of him.....

I just won One Million Pounds Sterling in the UK Lottery!!

DR ELMORE - if MTI sends out anything extra that they usually don't include for SINGIN IN THE RAIN, tell them to throw it in the box for Putnam County Playhouse.....
We need all the help we can get.

I can't believe I forgot to mention THE SHIELD which is, bar none, the best cop show presently on TV (though it's on hiatus until the fall when it returns to FX for its final season of episodes.)
-
We had a pretty cold breeze blowing at lunch time, so I was glad I was wearing both a sweater and a light jacket. I was glad to get back in the car after walking across a parking lot with a very strong breeze.
-
We went to lunch late to avoid crowds since this is a school holiday and a pizza buffet place is a prime hangout for families. We were smart; it was pretty empty when we got there, so the timing was just perfect. And I ate the 20 pounds of food just as I said I would.
-
I did have time to watch three things this afternoon. I began with last night's DIRT episode, and it was fun, fun, fun. This is the first time we've seen Don's brother, I believe, and I hope they develop that relationship more in upcoming weeks. And Lucy's love life is definitely getting more interesting. That vibrator got kind of worn out week after week last season. More interesting seeing her with these hunks.
-
Next, I sped through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke or Noah, and they weren't in the previews for tomorrow either.
-
Hoo and Ray!!!! :)
YUP! :D

I ended my afternoon with another NUMB3RS episode. This one dealt with teams of robbers hitting upscale restaurants. And Don goes into therapy. That should be interesting if they continue to pursue it.

DR MATTH - thanks, of course THE SHIELD....very interesting with some very good actors.

JRand-Wonderful news about Ryan!
HEALING AND COMPLETE RECOVERY VIBES!

Thank you DR JANE!
I have been checking IMDB to see all of the movies that feature my relatives from the past: Sir Thomas and Sir George Stanley, etc.
Sir Thomas is in a lot of movies with his friends Richard III and Henry VII.
I am not sure if he is in THE TUDORS.....
-
Nope not mentioned in the credits....Henry VIII did stand when a son was christened, but I guess that's kind of boring stuff for that show.
-
Back from a half jog/half walk. I did a little under 3/4s of my usual run - my legs are still pretty sore from the other day - then I walked briskly for the rest of the route.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Stunningly stunning day out - although it's definitely allergy season.
-
Will we never get to page eight?

Now that others have mentioned it, I have vague memories of Apple Brown Betty in the Louis Pasteur cafeteria.

I idea of a meatball made of pudding has put me off food for the day, I must say.

I am a bit non plussed that he would say that MY own career in choreography and dance is NOTHING and means NOTHING when in fact, I have and will continue to do quite well, though never reaching the heights of fame of Mr Kelly.
If that is the way you took what I said, then that is the way you took it.
My point was that Kelly made his name and fortune with dance, was rewarded for it, and was honored for it, despite your oft-stated very negative opinions of it.
Your being a dancer, of which I was only vaguely aware, is not something I was alluding to and has no influence on how I react to your comment at all.

The above comments seemed personal to me - regardless of how you meant them, Mister. :P

I must confess that I've never seen all of the film, but I find Irene Sharaf one of the most overrated designers in theatre. I think her costumes for the concluding ballet are awesomely ugly.
I don't care what you think of the costumes.

Don McLean was the inspiration for "Killing Me Softly With His Song".
(Of course someone may have answered that by now).

Guess it's time to tend to a few computer items and then head back down to begin evening viewing. I cleaned the dining room this morning, so that's out of the way.
BTW, just a general question for all:
At night and when you get up from it, do you turn your computer completely off, put it in a sleep/hibernation mode, or leave it running all the time?

To this:
Kelly at his pretentious worst and his ego gone wild with some really dumb dances to some really great music.
I truly wish I could just have laughed it off.

Good Afternoon!
The Ladies Dance Call finished at 3:45. And I was still on the clock as of nine minutes ago! :)
-
All in all, it was a very good day. We had a decent turn out, and there was certainly more "good" than "bad" and "mediocre". I even got "introduction applause" today too after Kathleen Marshall introduced me! :)
Tomorrow, the Men.

What was her introduction?

An "introduction applause"-SWEET!

And it's nice to have a few hours to recuperate after playing the 24-bars of the dance combination 141 times.

Macrobiotic cuisine uses brown rice syrup as a sweetener. I quite like it. Ever used it, Jose or Woody?
I've used it every now and then. It actually works well as a sweetener in Thai and Korean food. Sometimes those clumps of "brown rock sugar" - or whatever the proper name of that stuff is - just too scary looking on the shelves.
Brown Rice Syrup also works well for ice cream bases. ;)
-
Thanks for the salad dressing recipe. I printed it out and will try it.
I recently found a really delicious salad dressing recipe. It's supposed to be like Olive Garden. I really like it.
1/2 C Mayonnaise
1/3 C White Vinegar
1 tsp vegetable oil (i use olive oil)
2 tbsp corn syrup (you can use less)
2 tbsp parmesan cheese
2 tbsp romano cheese
1 clove minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
1/2 tsp parsley flakes
1 tbsp lemon juice
mix in blender (i use a hand blender).
Hmm... Well, here, I would go ahead and use sugar instead of corn syrup. ;) -And I'd probably leave out the mayo since I've never really been a fan of creamy salad dressings.

I love me some "Johnny and the Sprites". I'm wondering how the filming schedule for the show will be affected once John Tartaglia starts his stint in the musical version of Shrek later this year. In any case...
"Johnny and the Sprites" has turned into a great showcase for up and coming - and arrived! - Broadway talent. Heck, Chita Rivera recently appeared as the Queen of Everything (or something close to that). It's also fun to spot John's fellow Avenue Q alumni on the show from time to time. He has also provided a great venue for various songwriters too. *And it's always sooooo cute when I happen to catch John walking in the theatre district, and a little kid runs up to him, "Johnny! Johnny!! Look, Mommy! It's Johnny!" :)
-And, yes, it was fun to see Amy Adams and Kristen Wiig perform "What Is This Feeling?" Alas, that was sort of the best part of that episode.
-
Nope, I had only heard the Warren Beatty. I'm reading about the song now, very interesting. Do you have the original recording by Lori Lieberman? It doesn't seem right she was never credited for her original poem.
At Least Joel Whitburn gives her a mention.
(My first knowledge if the McLean/Lieberman story was from "Casey").

I'm happy to announce that's she's currently sporting her own wardrobe, and not NBC's.

Why is CSM interested in BRAIN.....is it for the production or the show in general?
-
As for the computer off/on/sleep... I always turn mine off. Yes, I know that "sleep" mode save some time (?- I think), but... 1) If I can save a few pennies a year on the electric bill here by turning it off, I will continue to turn it off. I even unplug mine at night too. 2) Computers are more prone to damage from power spikes when in "Sleep" mode than when turned off, so... -At least that's what my brother - who's a computer systems engineer - always tells me. 3) Your computer can't be hacked when it's turned off, and with the "roaming" technology out there to "steal" wireless signals, and, consequently, information, I'm not taking any chances.
-
Deeeep breaths. Shall I weigh in on Mr. Kelly? I love Singin' In The Rain - everything about it. Mr. Kelly is terrific in this film, as is his dancing and choreography (Fit As A Fiddle is one of the greatest screen dances EVER). It's hard to know how much is him and how much Mr. Donen, directing-wise.
I have enjoyed him in many films, but An American In Paris has never gotten to me like some of his others. I find it a fairly lethargic film, which has some good numbers in it (I do like I Got Rhythm with the kids). I have never liked the ballet and I've really tried. I do like one section of it - is it the jockey costume? Is that what they call it?
As a director without Donen, he was horrible. As an actor, I thought he did a nice job in Inherit The Wind.
-
Why is CSM interested in BRAIN.....is it for the production or the show in general?
It's about the production we're doing and about the LA Festival of New Musicals.

Well, time for me to head out again. Dinner and a show. I believe dinner will be at John's Pizza in Times Square, and the show will be Cry Baby at The Marquis. -I shall snag a few extra Playbills for any DRs who would like one, DR JRand. ;)

-
Well, I think what we are all forgetting about Mr. Gene Kelly.....those tight little buns of his!
"Little"?
As an actor, Kelly puzzles/annoys me me. As a dancer, he exhilarates me. As a director...well, I enjoy "Hello, Dolly!" more and more with each viewing, but I think that's more because we don't get muscial movies made with such attention to detail and music performance and dance as we used to. And then there's the Herman score which was beautifully served...IMO.
In "The Pirate Ballet" (from "The Pirate") he's extraordinary. As Serafin, the actor, yuck. I love his "Slaughter on 10th Avenue", too. And he's totally charming/delightful in "On the Town." To me, that is.
But he never seemingly met a ham he couldn't out-ham.

Let's get back to today's title, shall we?
While we Americans think of puddings as being a thick, sweet and soft dessert, they don't have to be a sweet at all. The wider scope of puddings include dishes that are made of a combination of ingredients that are bound together with some kind of thickener and then cooked. The binder can be flour, eggs, batters of various types, suet, even blood. (Sorry, Jane.) Many types of sausages are considered "puddings".
I found the following in James Beard's American Cookery:
Beefsteak Pudding:
Mrs. Crowen offers a curious version of this dish. It is made with a steak beaten almost to a paste, seasoned with salt and pepper, dotted with butter, then rolled into a pastry prepared with beef drippings and wrapped in a pudding cloth. It is boiled for two hours, cut in slices, and served with melted butter and catsup.
However, the traditional version, which was established in this country by the English settlers, is surely the favorite. It was occasionally made with game - bear, venison, and smaller game - instead of beef.
Line a two to two-and-a-half quart pudding bowl or mixing bowl with a suet crust, allowing enough to overlap the edge. Cut a 2 1/2 to 3 pound round steak, 1 inch thick into strips 1 by 2 inches and flour the strips. Place in the bowl in a layer, and alternate with layers of veal kidneys (3 or 4) which have been cut into slices, and 2 finely chopped onions, sprinkling with seasonings (1 tsp. thyme, 1/4 cup chopped parsley, and salt and pepper), until the layers almost reach the top of the bowl. Pour in stock or water to fill 3/4 of the bowl. Dampen the edge of the bottom crust, put a top crust on and secure it to the bottom crust. It is best to allow enough pastry, top and bottom, so that the two crusts can be pressed together and turned under, making a firmer seal. Next, take a heavy cloth, wring it out in hot water, and sprinkle liberally with flour. Tie this carefully over the pudding so that no water can penetrate during the steaming process. Place the bowl in a large kettle. Pour in water to cover 2/3 of the bowl. Place a lid on the kettle, and boil for about 4 hours. Remove the pudding cloth.
Serve from the bowl placed on a platter and surround with boiled potatoes and, perhaps, Brussels sprouts.
Maybe not a dish everyone would enjoy. Beard doesn't say how many people this is supposed to serve.

I've never seen "Singin' in the Rain" except on stage about 17 years or so ago.
Matthew! The film is a classic! What you saw on stage cannot compare. Debbie Reynolds is luminous, Donald O'Connor is hilarious, and what-his-name dances very well.
DR Matt could probably give a better reaction, but bonus stuff on the two disc set that came out a few years ago were fairly good, as I remember.
-
I've got some meatballs to bake in the oven. A nice, light tomato sauce should go well with them, along with some rigitoni and garlic bread.
-
TOTD:
My first cop show was Dick Tracy -- not the live-action version, but the cartoon with Joe Jitsu and Heap O'Calorie.
My favorite all-time cop show would have to be NYPD Blue. It was a masterwork of ensemble acting. And they showed some bare butts.
-
DR MATTHEW you cannot spend a more glorious 103 minutes than SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.
All the performers even YKW at the peak of their careers and lovely Debbie Reynolds at the start of hers. Jean Hagen is perfection, and all of the supporting cast - Rita Moreno, King Donovan, Cyd Charisse, Douglas Fowley, Madge Blake, Kathleen Freeman, and MORE - everything some other movie musicals claim to be.
-
DR SWW - still doesn't make me hungry.
-
Topic of the Day: "Medium"...otherwise, has anyone mentioned "Barney Miller"? :)
-
I do not know the play CRAIG'S WIFE - written by Grace Kelly's uncle - and I haven't seen the movie version with Rosalind Russell....but this HARRIET CRAIG is one of the few movies I ever saw where someone got the best of Joan Crawford....and it was Wendell Corey!
Even K.T. Stevens got in a few good punches. Whew!

We turn our computer off overnight and when we know we will be away for long periods. If we are watching a movie or television or if we leave the apartment we turn it off. When I'm at work, there are times when Anthony doesn't turn the computer on until the late afternoon. We do use a screen saver now because on the computer that died in January we had our desktop image burn into the screen. Rose (Ant's mother) asked about it when she saw the monitor. It's not REALLY obvious but it's obvious enough.
It's this very picture

We "borrowed" a couple of images from Dick and Jane to put together a desktop photo.
We're just too gay ;)
-
Someday, Ant, someone will buy you a pair of long pants.
;D
-
"YOU ARE SO STUPID!"
There. I feel better.
-
STUPID DANCE!
Every dance I do is a stupid dance.

Greetings all! I hope you will forgive me if I share a little personal miracle that happened to me today.
I know a lot of you just think I am kind of a whack job at times, with a rather strange sense of humor. However, I actually have a serious side, at times, and I am also fairly religious - honestly! You can't have gone through a lot of the things that have happened to me in my life without having a strong faith in God.
Well, a few months back, to make a long story semi-short; I lost a lawsuit resulting from an old debt that happened while I was off-work without pay for four months when I broke my back in 2002. I tried repeatedly to make payment arrangements with this lawyer about this debt, but he didn't want to hear anything about payments. Instead he garnished my wages.
So for the months of February, March and April; I have just over $900.00 a month taken out of my net wages. It is has been a nightmare trying to keep myself above water. Finally this week I reached the end of my rope. I was stuck trying to figure how I was going to rob Peter, yet again; so that I could try to pay Paul.
I don't like to ask for favors for myself from God when I pray, although I am constantly bugging him for help for other people. This weekend, I finally ran out of options I prayed very hard and I told God that I needed to ask his help to get through, at least, this month.
Well, this morning I got a call from the agency that I am listed with, that I have landed a photo shoot for tomorrow morning in Seattle. It is for a large Health Care system here in the Northwest, probably for one of their brochures. Bottom line: About 5 hours work tomorrow. The payment: $750.00.
I don't know how I am going to manage next month, but, at least this month is settled. Of course, I have no idea how soon I will get paid, but the check is almost in the mail!
Forgive me for rambling, but I needed to share this with my family.

Bravo, DR TCB! I hope it's the first of several monthly photoshoots.
-
Good news, DR TCB!
-
DR Jane - haven't seen any of those, but I have read Josephine Tey's To Love and Be Wise.
Awhile back my book group read DAUGHTER OF TIME, which is why FRANCHISE caught my attention at the used book store. I think I will read the rest of her books, beginning with her first one. There aren't all that many to read.

You should see the wallpaper on my computer at home. :D
I could post it when I get home. It's a picture of Raoul (someone, I don't remember his last right now)...the image doesn't show his whole body...but what you do see is cherse!!
-
DR Ben, I'm sure there aren't any complaints over your, too cute, desktop image. :)

That's wonderful! Congrats! And Good Luck with next month!!

I've never seen "Singin' in the Rain" except on stage about 17 years or so ago.
:o You really must see it. Donald O'Connor does one of the all time great dance scenes.
-
That's great news, TCB.
-
GREAT NEWS TCB!!!!
That is a lot of money taken out of your wages, I'm very sorry.
VIBES FOR MANY MORE SHOOTS, AND LOADS OF EXTRA MONEY!!!
-
Great news for dear DR TCB. He certainly deserves it.
And cute, cute artwork, DR Ben! :D
-
Congrats, TCB.
Could you now work out a deal with G-d to smite my deadbeat eBay bidder and also get my television fixed? Thanks!
-
Wonderful news, TCB!
-
I've been doing the "pack & post" routine for the last couple of hours. I have a 9:30am flight from Cincinnati to Minneapolis tomorrow, but have done about all I can do until morning. Time to quit and go watch New Amsterdam with Richard.
-
SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES!
-
Have a great trip DR GINNY.
I, too, love the artwork posted by DR BEN. Charming....and yes, DR SANDRA, we used to dress like that!
-
Wonderful news, DR TCB.
I am watching TRADER HORN in TCM and it has turned into mostly a travelogue.
-
Great timing, Keith arrived home just minutes ahead of the plumber. Now he has gone out in the rain & cold to discuss the heater.
Well, if you keep your water heater outside, that might be part of the problem!
-
Time for me to leave. I have things to see, people to go, places to do.
;)
Until later.
-
I got a Windex shoeshine today.
-
And now my saddle shoes are as shiny as our new windows.
-
If only I had known about Windex. I think of all those horrible years I had to polish my oxfords with white shoe polish. I hated it! And it was so difficult not to get white on the black portion.

I've an early morning tomorrow.
Hasta la.
(Hmmm, maybe a new catch phrase.)
-
Quick! Someone tell me --
What are these forks for?
Is the funny one for salad? Or dessert? Or what????
-
Hi all! I'm just popping in for a moment. Can you BELIEVE it's going down to 44 degrees here in the Land of Sunshine? I've had it! I'm moving to someplace WARM--like Florida! :)
Dear TCB, I wish I could win that darn lotto so I could not only help myself but also dear friends, like you.
My latest news is the hunt for the perfect bed--which I found this weekend. That's the good part. The bad part is the price--a mere $6,499.00! :o It was a good thing I was laying down on it at the time I was told the price because I would have fell down.
Anyway, I knew that it was out of the question. Tonight I happned to look on Crags list and found the exact bed for much, much much less. I am going to look at it this Saturday.
-
Hi Danise :D
-
What's the perfect mattress?
-
I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. We had something interesting happen locally.
Our schools always had Good Friday off. This year some of the other faiths complained about it so the school board voted to have it be a regular school day but with the out that if someone took the day off, it would not be held against them.
Well 2/3's of the kids didn't show up for school, not mention the hundreds of school workers which included teachers and bus drivers.
Today the school board made the announcement that they would never again take the Good Friday holiday away.
-
Sandra, are those the only two forks in the setting? If so then where it is placed on the table makes a difference. In the photo the fork on the left appears to be the dinner fork, making the one on the right a dessert fork.
The shape alone makes me think of a special use. A shrimp cocktail fork would be an odd shape but smaller.
-
I know you didn't like it, Jane, but it's a Temur Pedic. I just loved it from the moment I laid down on it. And it was a adjustable frame. The moment I put my legs up and adjusted my back just a tad, it was like, "ahhhh".
-
I understand complaining for equal time off on important holidays, not against the time off for an existing holiday.
-
The people who are selling the bed on Craigs list love the bed but are going for a king size instead of a queen because he has sleep apnia like me and has to sleep like I do.
His wife wants to lay flat so they want to get a king because it's like two different beds in one.
-
You also tested the mattress in a warm store, they are affected by the air temps. The colder the temp, the harder the mattress. You might need to keep your bedroom warmer.
-
When we spent the night at the beach this summer our bedroom was overly warm, even for me. However, the temper-pedic mattress felt so good I looked into getting one.
-
Well, it's ten and I gotta run.
Have a good evening all!
-
We never did get a new mattress, we got a fake down mattress pad. It isn't great but it beats buying a new mattress we didn't need, except for our own comfort.
-
Danise, sleep well.
-
Now that others have mentioned it, I have vague memories of Apple Brown Betty in the Louis Pasteur cafeteria.
You knew Louis Pasteur?
-
DR Sandra:
Assorted forks. From left to right: dessert fork, relish fork, salad fork, dinner fork, cold cuts fork, serving fork, carving fork.
-
I prefer 4 pronged dessert forks to 3 pronged ones. Both are correct.
-
'night
-
Congrats on the great news TCB! May the universe grant you another such favor next month.
-
Sorry to miss DR Danise. If I'd been paying attention, I'd have told her we love our TempurPedic mattress.
'night!
-
I had my first Guys and Dolls rehearsal tonight. It was... interesting. It's a new group that I've never worked with before, so I shall give it some time.
-
Thank you all for the congratulations. I think I may actually sleep better tonight.
Well, I have to be in Seattle at 6:15 a.m.; so I had better get ready for bed.
Good night.
-
I got a new pillow today.
-
Time for bed....work tomorrow. Oh well.
-
We are having ice cream for dessert tonight, so I guess it will get to be a salad fork.
-
The thermostat on the hot water was broken-EASY FIX! :D We should have hot water in an hour.
Jane, I have never heard of an easy fix for a water heater before, but I'm glad you had one.
-
I just finished reading THE FRANCHISE AFFAIR by Josephine Tey. There are also two films, 1952 & ’88, plus a 1962 English TV series. Has anyone seen any of these?
Jane, I read the book ages ago, but didn't realize their were any films out of it.
-
Wonderful news, DR TCB.
I am watching TRADER HORN in TCM and it has turned into mostly a travelogue.
Edwina Booth caught an infection filming this on location in Africa and died from it.
-
Thanks to all for your information about your computers. I appreciate the information.
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from seeing Cry Baby...
DR JRand - I forgot to pick up a few extra Playbills on the way out the theatre tonight, however, I have no problem sending you mine. ;)
-
I began my evening watching another NUMB3RS episode. This one involved the dicovery of a murdered policeman from 1990 and the investigation into it. Not a great mystery. I guessed it easily.
-
Next, I watched the remake of THE ITALIAN JOB on HD-DVD. Good cast: Mark Walburgh, Seth Green, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Mos Def, and Edward Norton. The first 2/3 was very entertaining, but it really fell apart in the final third which just turned into a ridiculous chase through downtown LA.
-
As for the show... Well...
It's a very good and hard-working cast. -The prison yard workout/dance is pretty amazing in spots. Alas, I feel the show is swallowed up by the theatre - there's lots of air space on the stage. And the voices were strangely mixed low in the mix (tonight?) - and I was sitting just a few feet in front of the sound board!?!? In any case.. I had a relatively good time, but part of that good time was the intermission and post-show "discussion". ;)
We shall see...
*DR FJL - I'm still trying to figure out your comment about the humor in this show and the humor in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Seems like apples and oranges to me.
-
I enjoyed NEW AMSTERDAM very much. Nice case, good backstory. I still can't believe this doctor feels no remorse about her failed marriage or isn't working to see if she can't make it work again. If there's going to be any built-in tension about this relationship, she needs to go back to this husband (if she is indeed THE ONE), and let John twist and turn over not being able to have her. Yes, tonight, it looked like they were going to break up because she felt he wasn't being honest with her, but that didn't seem more than momentary pique on her part. I don't think it's over. But the whole relationship thing has just been too fast and easy. There need to be BIG problems for him to surmount.
-
What was fun tonight was seeing a bunch of friends and colleagues. A good portion of tonight's house was papered, and it seemed like the companies from almost every other Broadway show were there tonight. Lots of hugs, and catching up. Always a good thing.
-
DR TCB - Congrats! Mazel tov.
-

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been going through this, but so glad to hear the happy ending!
Checks-arrive-soon vibes to TCB and ELMORE and anyone else kept waiting!
-
DR Sandra - It's a salad fork.
-
Page Twelve Dorothy Dance!!!
-
MEDIUM was a good episode,
but I kind of suspected something was fishy about the captor and the blonde girl.
And, once again, it is TEDIOUS for people to not believe Allison. They go to her for help and then discount it routinely.
-
Tomorrow I'll have OLD CHRISTINE and CSI: MIAMI to watch from tonight's new episodes.
-
I only turn my computer off when I am going to be away for a few days. It seems to me that the compuer guy said it was best to leave it on...or maybe I imagined it.
-
Woohoo for TCB! Hope the shoot tomorrow is lots of fun!
-
Had a nice time tonight as it was my nephew John's 31st birthday. We had steak freshly grilled!
And I found out that my niece Katie's and her husband Brian know BIG BROTHER 9's Natalie. She is she is a good friend of Brian's sister.
-
I noticed that my DVR recored HERE COMES PETER COTTONTAIL, so I think I may just watch it before I head off to slumber land.
-
COngrats to DR TCB! Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.
-
Now, I'm heading down to bed since I have no writing to accomplish tonight.
Good night!
-
Well... I have another dance call ahead of me tomorrow, so...
Goodnight.
-
Great news, TCB!
-
Jose - I'm referring to really-bad-bad-bad-taste factor, intentionally bad, bad taste - but CRY BABY probably pushes the boundaries of that even farther than DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS did.
-
Thanks, Jose.
-
Back from a very good rehearsal. By the end of Wednesday, my blocking work will be done, and then it's all up to the choreographer.
-
Ate at Todai - I think I'm done with it rather than down with it.
-
I left fifteen minutes earlier than ever, three-thirty, and the traffic on the 101 to downtown was reprehensible. Thirty minutes to go about seven miles and what should be a six-minute drive from Cahuenga in Hollywood. Today I tried taking the 10 to the 57 to the 91 - it was pretty good for a while then bogged down and it ended up taking the full ninety minutes.
-
I shall now write Ye Olde Notes.
