At the party I went to tonights, scorpions and maggots were offered among the appetizers. And haircuts. And log rolling. And fencing. And henna tattoos. And falcons.

As my friend Sharyn said, "ahhh the old log rolling/fencing/scorpion eating party I should have guessed."

Were the insects fried, caramelized, salted, dipped in chocolate or all of the above?

They were boiled, I think. But they were in a honey-citrus glaze. And on Belgian endive with goat cheese.

And I was glad I didn't get one. Or the maggots, either.

The Juliana rehearsal went really well - first time in weeks that we've been with the pianist - we had some stuff to work out with him and we should be fine for our Saturday run-through.

Then I went directly to watch the Outside The Box rehearsal.  Kay Cole has done a splendid job staging the two number - I only had minor nits to pick and she fixed those things and we're set to go - fun ensemble.

TOD:

Y'all aren't probably going to be familiar with "my favorite Andy Williams" song, but it was on one of his late 1960s albums (don't remember the title).  The song is "I Want to Be Free".

Words and Music by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart

"I want to be free like the bluebird flying by me
Like the waves out on the blue sea
Your love has to tie me, don't try me, say goodbye

"I want to be free, don't say you love me, say you like me
But when I need you beside me
Stay close enough to guide me, confide in me, oh-oh-oh-oh

"I want to hold your hand, walk along the sand
Laughin' in the sun, always havin' fun
Doin' all those things without any strings to tie me down

"I want to be free like the warm September wind, babe
Say you'll always be my friend , babe
We can make it to the end, babe
 Again, babe, I gotta say

"I want to be free
I want to be free
I want to be free"

Sigh.

I have a 45 rpm that was part of the "Christmas" when I got my first hi-fi record player.  It's Andy Williams singing Hawaiian songs....Blue Hawaii, Sweet Leilani and two others.  I played that record THOUSANDS of times...that and the other 45 rpm....Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas" and three other songs, including the Latin version of "Adeste Fidelis" which I committed to memory and sang along with him, even in the summertime!

It would be another couple of years before I discovered film music and soundtrack albums.

oh gosh yes!  I remember this song!!!

Good morning. Today I am going to the river with The Monarch Scientist.

Ya know, there's a good hand-clappin', toe-tappin gospel number in there somewhere.

WAAAAAAAAL

Me and the monarch scientist

Me and the monarch  scientist

went down to the river to play

Me and the monarch  scientist

counted butterflies  along the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Today was my sister's 48th birthday.  The family went to her house and we had Thai food.  I had some pineapple curry with rice and chicken (mild) and it wasn't too bad.  What is too bad is that I left it at my sister's house.  I won't be able to get it until Saturday because tomorrow night, I'm going to a union meeting after work.  HOPEFULLY, there will be more than four people at the meeting.
