I would just rather the best dancer win vs the most popular.

That hardly ever happens, DR Jennifer.  The best seldom wins it all.  That's certainly the case on "American Idol" -- since Season 2.

Larry, I'll be interested in hearing your take on Mary Poppins. I hear they have toned it down a little from the British production though it's still a much darker and harsher look at the story. Apparently the only way Travers would agree to a musical version (she was still alive until recently) was if Mackintosh hewed closer to the stories she wrote and less toward the Disney version. Apparently there is a scene (according to Michael Riedel) that makes some children crawl under their seats in fright.

well, that perks me right up after working for five years on a family musical involving child abuse, demonic possession, and a savage killing!

DR FJL, I've heard from Rebecca; we're going backstage after.

Babes in Toyland? Who knew Victor Herbert had it in him!

BTW, did you know there is an "adult novelty" store called "Toys in Babeland"?

It's Wednesday.  It's early.

It's relatively peaceful and calm in the office as "most" co-workers are at a breakfast.

I bought gas this morning -- $2.59.99/gallon (middle grade).  A bargan!!! Hasn't been this cheap in two years.

Framed?  Who framed him and why?

Does he look startled in those photos?

Was Eakins documenting his framing for court records?

Spill the beans, please!

"I Used to be Color Blind" and "Change Partners" are two of the best numbers Astaire/Rogers ever did, IMO.

And how can we forget that magnficent "The Yam"?

I would just rather the best dancer win vs the most popular.

Which is the most frustrating part of AMERICAN IDOL for me: the most popular contestant is often not the best vocalist.

But so many of these reality shows that allow for viewer votes allow popularity to trump talent. I haven't followed the show, but even a quick glance shows Mario in another league from the other male competitors.

Mario definitely moves better -- and with far more masculine grace than the professional male dancers on the show.

BUT the judges nitpick him to death.

Ben, please let Ant know that I showed one of my kids the toilet paper roll craft book yesterday and he loved it- and this is my picky kid who can never decide on what he wants to do.  He is really excited about decorating a wrapping paper sized roll to make it into a walking stick.  Thanks Ant!!

I think CAREFREE was a deliberate attempt by RKO to change the Fred/Ginger formula. The team had fallen from 3rd at the box-office in 1936 to 7th in 1937, so clearly the public seemed interested in something new. Ginger was also notorious for wanting to break free of the team, and CAREFREE allowed her to be much more a comedienne separately than glued to Fred.

The attempt, however, wasn't successful. Neither CAREFREE nor THE STORY OF VERNON AND IRENE CASTLE ranked among the top grosses of their respective years.

The prezzydint sure is hopped up this morning.

It falls under the heading of "pre-election posturing."

It can be filed under "spin" and join the myriad occasions when the terrorist security level was raised to offset some failing poll numbers or other GOP faux pas that needed deflecting.  I'm certain he believes he "owns" the "absentee" vote.

I must decide whether to buy fabric and sew a little red riding hood cape, or if I should buy one.  I don't really have the time or energy to make one before this weekend/Tuesday but everything I've seen in the stores looks really cheap... but isn't costwise.

How come it's okay for him to back track and change his mind- wasn't that behavior called fence sitting and being wishy washy in others...

Also, I am appalled by the Rush Limbaugh criticism of Michael J Fox. Appalled.

ASK BK DAY

When you were at Varese there were two compliations cds. One for Borders and the other for promotional purposes. What process did you use to choose what song went on the cds and the order of the songs chosen.

I think we did two compilation CDs for Borders - I'd have to look at them again - I just chose tracks I liked and thought would go together.
