I just got Richard Valley's complete Rewind review for Scarlet Street.  Here's my two favorite paragraphs:

Like ALL ABOUT EVE (1950), Rewind’s story is told from the unique viewpoints of several characters. Unlike ALL ABOUT EVE, several of the characters are, by the time they reach the conclusion of their individual reminiscences, no longer among the living. (Paging Joe Gillis from that other 1950 showbiz saga, SUNSET BLVD.)

and

Who lives? Who dies? And when, where, and why? That’s only half the fun, the other half being a real insider’s look at the flip side of the record business. Not since Betty Hutton belted out “Murder, He Said” has a musical body count been as irresistible as Rewind.

VERY nice!

I know you've  said, but I am experiencing many bouts of forgetfulness... when is REWIND due to  "hit the street"?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am REALLY excited about the upcoming pre-Broadway run at San Francisco's Curran Theater of the Elton John-Bernie Taupin "Lestat."

It starts around Dec. 17 and runs through late January, with a Spring 2006 bow on Broadway (if all goes well).

With John and Taupin working on this, I expect a lot.

Anyone else here an Anne Rice/Vampire Lestat fan(atic)?

I AM interested in hearing all about LESTAT after you see it, DR Ron. I didn't like Elton's AIDA much, but the subject matter here might be more to my liking.

I so well remember how astute you were about WICKED, so I will be eager to read what you have to say about LESTAT.

After my friend and I had lunch, he had to go buy gifts for a baby shower he and his wife were going to be attending. Since I had NO interest in that, I went next door to a CompUSA store to browse through computers, software, printers, and the like.

I couldn't believe it but after 30 minutes, I truly saw nothing in that that I either wanted or needed.

Maybe I should have walked across the parking lot and gone to a home electronics store!  :D

DR Ron.  I know you mentioned the Georgia Gibbs recording of "Hucklebuck" a few times. I've never heard it and associate the song with Chubby Checker. Georgia's version did make the USA top 100 and was not issued here that I know of. We did get to hear her "Hula Hoop" ditty though. I don't think I've ever heard either the Tommy Dorsey or Frank Sinatra versions of "Hucklebuck" from 1949.

Those of us with scanners should scan either a high school or college photo of ourselves to see what we looked like back then. I think I've got an old high school yearbook here in my office.

I got home four hours ago to find Time Warner had crashed in my neighborhood.  I've had no tv or internet access until about 15 minutes ago.  My planets must be in terrible alignment this week!

I'm taking goddaughter Charlotte to Central Park tonight for her first show at the Delacorte, TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA with Rosario Dawson and my friend Don Stephenson.  since i saw and loved the original in 1972, I hope this is at least half as wonderful.  I have yet to see a revival in New York that comes close to the original.

Of course, with my current mood and luck this week, we'll be rained out.

DR TomovOz:  Somewhere in storage, I have a 45 rpm of Georgia Gibbs' "Hucklebuck."

I played it and played it and played it all during the early 60s.  I remember listening to it again sometime in the 70s.  I haven't listened to it since, though.

And I'm waxing nostalgic lately...

Have been thinking about "Venus in Blue Jeans" for some reason.  Maybe Bobby Vinton knows why.  I don't.

We will not blame this on DR Jose but instead on DR der Brucer.

"Waxing" is good DR Ron. I don't think I would enjoy the hot variety.

I tried last year to purchase a Cd of the works of Georgia Gibbs. Not available.. She must be too busy dancing with Henry.
Time to look again I think.

All right. Time now to end the fun and games and head downstairs for some den cleaning. It's Wednesday, and that means a half hour of ugh!

Good Afternoon!

How come no one told me until about 30 minutes ago that today was Wednesday and not Thursday?!?!?  I've been running around today like it was tomorrow already.  But at least I got some stuff done.

I'm back at my apartment right now since the "last minute" set of auditions I got called in for were cancelled due to train issues - all the members of the production staff are delayed about four hours in Philly.

So...

DR elmore - I'll be calling your shortly.

hunky!

I was just growing out of my "chunky/husky" phase.  Better times were to come.

And there were ups and downs, balancing with the seasons...until I turned 50.

Then...the balancing got broken or something....

Which poses the question:  Just how messy can one person be that cleaning is required weekly?

Question for DR RonP, Cillaliz, Mbarnum or anyone else still watching Big Brother.

What do you think Ivette should do? re: voting

What do you think Janelle whould do?

To me if Ivette keeps james it would be good (because he is strong and would take out maggie/april while keeping Iv safe. However, she would maybe lose her Friendship votes and betray her friends.  But would it take her farther in the game?

As for Janelle, I do not think she would betray howie.  But i wonder if her and james would have a better chance to get to the end. I don't see her trusting james though. Since he is also partnered with Iv.  But it would be interesting to see James/Janelle screw over the others and get to the end.

I think it would be in Ivette's best interest to keep James and vote out Howie...but unless the others will vote for Howie, then she had better stick with the majority.

If James stays then I can see Ivette and Beau making it to the end.

Unfortunately I don't want to see either James nor Howie leave.
