To answer some questions from Jose who posted after I went to bed
Thanks DR Michael Shayne for the Universal Pics.  They are bringing back many fond memories of my audition tour.  And I didn't realize you were staying "on campus" at the Royal Pacific.  Nice hotel, definitely built for the business and convention business, but still a nice hotel.  -It's just kind of funny that the really nice hotel on campus down there is the Hard Rock Hotel - oh, and the Portofino is quite nice too.

I stayed at the Portofino last year and between the two I liked the Portofino better. They have a wonderful Italian restaurant. I so do enjoy staying onsite because you can get in the express land and bypass the long lines. It is soooooo worth it.

Were you able to catch the torch lighting ceremony around the pool?

No it was pouring rain so it was moved indoors

And did they leave interesting "mints" on your pillow?

No and I was very disappointed. The bed wasn't even turned.

I got a few kitchen magnets, a lei, and a shell filled with potpourri.  Frankly, I would have preferred chocolates.

Not even that and worse of all I didn't get a lei on my birthday..

So, did you catch the Universal Monsters Live show?    Too bad they don't run the Spiderman Live show down there... it's trash, but fun trash.  And the "transformation" of Peter Parker is fun... and actually quite sexy.

I skipped the monster show. A lot more interesting things to do.
No transformation of Peter Parker in Orlando.

Tonight I am off to see Steven Lutvak in concert this evening at the Crest Theater as part of their Cabaret series. I might be late to talk.

Oh, and regarding Mr. Timberlake and Ms. Jackson... If it was a "wardrobe malfunction", how was the "wardrobe" supposed to function in the first place then?  Was her whole top supposed to come off instead?

My understanding was she was supposed to be wearing something underneath

Isn't it amazing that breasts can still draw such an hysterical reaction?  I mean, they've been around for quite awhile.

While I was gone Keith entertained himself on the computer and checked out the following site for unclaimed money:  https://scoweb.sco.ca.gov
He found money for my Dad, sister, niece, his brother, my ex-brother in-law, our son’s girlfriend and her sister.  I highly suggest everyone check out this site, you never know.

THANK YOU DR JANE!
I'm to be $75 richer when I fill out the forms.

Apparently I am not owed anything, buy my late (by 25 years) father is, as is my not-late brother.  If I'm to claim my father's money I apparently have to get a death certificate and such.

Does With A Song In My Heart count as WWII?

Well, I would have thought so - Jane Froman sang it in her WWII USO shows; however, when I looked up the movie on IMDB I discovered:

"WITH A SONG IN MY HEART"
Written by Richard Rodgers (1929)
Lyrics by Lorenz Hart
Sung offscreen by Jane Froman
Reprised by Susan Hayward (voice dubbed by Froman) and Richard Allan

dere Brucer (who while searching found another WWII song favorite:

Chickery Chick
Sammy Kaye (#1 in 1945)
- words by Sylvia Dee, music by Sidney Lippman

Once there lived a chicken who would say "chick-chick"
"Chick-chick" all day
Soon that chick got sick and tired of just "chick-chick"
So one morning he started to say:

"Chickery chick, cha-la, cha-la
Check-a-la romey in a bananika
Bollika, wollika, can't you see
Chickery chick is me?"

Every time you're sick an tired of just the same old thing
Sayin' just the same old words all day
Be just like the chicken who found something new to sing
Open up your mouth and start to say
Oh!

"Chickery chick, cha-la, cha-la
Check-a-la romey in a bananika
Bollika, wollika, can't you see
Chickery chick is me?"

It was one of the first sonds I learned to sing and it drove my folks banaika!

Wiarton Willie's successor is Wee Willie, another albino groundhog. Actually there are two Wee Willies - Wee Willie and Wee Willie-2 - just to be safe.

I knew it! Canada's Groundhog has a Wee Willie (two if you'd believe it!)

Evening all!

Happy Ground Hog day!  So the little guy saw his shadow.  I can't honestly say I'm suprised.  If I came out and saw all those weird people about, I'd head for my little den as well!

I'm so glad to see DR Jane back safe and sound!  Welcome home!  :)

I'm was confused earlier today (no smart remarks, please, bk) -- "I'll Be Seeing You" and "We'll Meet Again" somehow became one song in my mind. I was thinking of "I'll Be Seeing You' when I said it moved me each time I heard it. But the reference to DR STRANGELOVE was about "We'll Meet Again"...

It does seem a strange obcession, particularly since it's restricted to the females of our species.

Making it stranger still is how so many in our (western) society insist that for the beefcake shots the men shave their hair off of their bared chests, simulating the hairlessness of our women.  Go figure!

Major news - five years ago:

TORONTO, Feb 3, 1999 (Reuters) - Canada's grief over the death of its most beloved groundhog turned to shame on Wednesday as officials admitted they had switched the corpse of the real Wiarton Willy with a stuffed impostor. Groundhog Day, observed in Canada and the United States, dictates that if a groundhog sees its shadow on February 2, there will be another six weeks of winter. Willy, who reached the ripe age of 22 before expiring, was Canada's official furry meteorological forecaster for most of his life in the small town of Wiarton, just north of Toronto.

When Groundhog Day observers arrived in Wiarton on Tuesday, they were greeted with the news that Willy was dead. On Wednesday, Canadian newspapers ran a photograph of a dead albino groundhog, purported to be Willy, clutching a carrot, and lying face-up in a small coffin. The only problem was that Willy's real body was discovered days before in an advanced stage of decomposition, indicating he had probably been dead for weeks.

"When the handler pulled him out, his remains were not presentable for public viewing," acknowledged Groundhog Day organizer Bill Walker. He said the town had meant no harm by displaying the corpse of the imposter, and had wanted to allow the public to reach "closure" over the rodent's death. The imposter in the coffin was a previous Willy, who had been stuffed years before.

Walker said Willy's remains were actually discovered on Sunday when a handler went to wake him up from hibernation so he could fulfill his role in the annual pageant. The town of Wiarton, which kept a special home for the rodent, has now launched a search for another Willy. "We've had calls from people who said they saw an albino groundhog last year," he said. "But they're hibernating right now so we'll have to wait until spring."

Willy's death inspired eulogies and even the occasional tear from elected officials in the national parliament and made headlines internationally. No one is quite sure of the origin of the tradition of groundhog watching. The U.S. counterpart of Wiarton Willy is Punxsutawney Phil, who emerged from his Pennsylvania home early on Tuesday as a crowd of 25,000 people watched. Phil failed to see his shadow, signaling that spring was right around the corner.

Good evening!

-Just because it's an All-You-Can-Eat soup and salad bar, doesn't mean you should eat "all-you-can-eat"... plus the 1/2 price burger... plus dessert - an ice cream sandwich made with chocolate chip pound cake and vanilla ice cream... topped with hot fudge and whipped cream... :-X

Hopefully, I'll sleep very well tonight.

I checked into the chat when I got back, and DR Dan-in-Toronto was the only one in there.  And then is it was only me.  So...

-I would have checked in earlier, but my friend, Mark, who picked me up for dinner was running late, so...

OK - Time to digest...

Just wanted to say that I am continuing to enjoy the book WICKED. I'm reading slowly - about two chapters a day, but it's quite wonderful. AMazing that no one got the idea to do this before Gregory Maguire did.

What is WITH Sundays and Mondays?  Maybe I'll just skip those days from now on and we'll be a Tuesday through Saturday site.  Every Sunday and Monday I am sure we'll achieve a new low and then we barely but BARELY squeak by.  What gives?  I know not, I care not but I shall laugh and laugh quite soon.
