Good morning, all! I thought I was getting sick last night but I feel better today. I would like to go to the NYPL.
DR Ben, I want very much to see LOVEMUSIK. I was doing some work on ONE TOUCH OF VENUS for the Kurt Weill Foundation when Lys Symonette and Kim Kowalke were editing the Weill-Lenya letters for publication. If you're interested, Donald Spoto wrote a bio of Lenya. I'm still waiting for a good Weill bio.
Yep. Brecht was a pig, espousing communism in East Berlin and storing all of his wealth in Swiss banks. From all I've read, he was indeed a pig, taking credit for a lot of the work of his mistress/secretary Elizabeth Hauptmann on THREEPENNY OPERA (the original 1928 production; Brecht kept rewriting it) and HAPPY END. That said, I think CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE and MOTHER COURAGE are masterpieces.
