No one seems to be certain what floors are affected.  I just heard 31-32, then 39.  Beats me!

NEW YORK —  A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, raining down debris on Manhattan and unleashing what witnesses reported was a gigantic fireball, police said.

The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

A few questions for our esteemed BK, and everyone else who cares:

Do you like olives?

Do you like them by themselves?

Do you like them as an ingredient in certain dishes?

No, no and no. :P

I remember, when we were children, watching my cousins pop olives onto their fingers, and then eating them.  It looked quite cannibalistic

Sounds like good fodder for a musical. DR George would love it!

Please refer to my previous post above.

It's clearly affected two floors at the moment, and it is definitely the building where I worked for two years.  There are lots of families and children in the building and I'm sure there will be more fatalities.  From the tv footage, the fire  looks higher than the 20th floor.

Seems some confusion came from the early eye-witness report from a women on the 32 nd floor, plus the confusion that the higher height of the lower floors mean the actual 20th floor is a level of a normal 30th floor.

Horrible! It appears to be an accident. But, just in case, according to NORAD Command, fighter planes are being scrambled over other major cities. What times we're living in!

There is a pilot on the phone on CNN who witnessed the crash and says that it looked to him like the plane was in trouble and the pilot was trying to get to a place to land.

And now for something completely different:  Ellen Barkin Jewel Collection Nets $20M[/b]! :o

NEW YORK - Actress Ellen Barkin's jewelry, more than 100 pieces that included her wedding ring from her failed marriage to Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman, has fetched $20.3 million at auction.

The article mentions her wedding ring and other pieces of jewelry, and then it goes on to say:

The $20.3 million total "makes Ellen Barkin's collection the highest single-owner jewelry sale of the past 15 years in the U.S. and also places it among the top four ever worldwide," Rahul Kadakia, head of Christie's jewelry department, said in a statement.

Guess auction is the way to go rather than yard sale.

I thought the building was built in the late 1990s and that it was half empty when we had the office; turns out it was built in the 1980s.  The office was a two-bedroom apartment and an expensive rental, but it was a great space.  The office we're in now rents for a fraction of the old rate, I understand.

Given that all the photos of her after the separation (lots of speculation there!) looked like hell, I'd say she came out of the debacle in pretty good condition.

DR MattH, yes i did watch VERONICA MARS.

Not as good as last week, but still highly enjoyable.

The Sociology experiment bored me. Veronica's mystery wasn't as interesting as usual. I liked Keith's adventure more this week. I think this may get more and more intriguing as the weeks go by.

How horrible about the crash! I knew nothing about it. I've been watching TV and movies all afternoon and didn't have the TV on a station to get any kind of reports or updates!

Something was wrong with the ABC affiliate feed last night since the DVR recorded dead air for BOSTON LEGAL and HELP YOU, HELP ME. Ah well, I plenty of other things to watch.

VERONICA MARS had some interesting twists in her pursuit of a sorority story and in looking for the campus rapist. The Keith story last night was my favorite; I like how he was able to think on his feet.

LAW & ORDER; SVU had Jerry Lewis as the primary guest star. Frankly, I found his acting average at best, certainly nothing as riveting or chill-inducing as other guest stars of some magnitude have been on the show.

If he gets an Emmy nomination off of this performance,l it will be because of who he is rather than what he did on the show.

I spent the remainder of the afternoon watching SAHARA, an adventure starring Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn (my favorite in the film), and the lackluster Penelope Cruz. Much of the action was absurd, way over the top, and the film was obviously geared to be the start a 21st century INDIANA JONES-type series. I don't think the film did quite well enough at the box-office for them to do another one, though McConaughey and Zahn did have a real camaraderie that gave the picture its only fun elements.
