DR Jose, the pit at the Palace, which once held around 30 players can only hold 15 now? Isn't that pathetic? Your show was discussed at dinner.
Well... If you look into the pit of the Winter Garden where Mamma Mia! is currently in residence, it's actually quite a tight fit there too. And there's only nine people in there!

Amazon has some clips of songs you can listen to from THE HAPPY TIME
Also, Robert Goulet (Robert Goulet! Oh, my God--Robert Goulet!) appears on one of the BROADWAY'S LOST TREASURES DVDs singing the title tune.
The whole Deep Fried thing is so peculiar! Ah, English cuisine, famed in song and legend. But, Jose, the description of that Butty thing, oy! Goes right a long, one supposes, with that Italian thing, deep fried CHEESE, fa' chrissakes...
Horrid! Unless, of course, one uses chicken fat for the deep frying...
I'm up!
I'm dressed!
I'm fed!
I'm online!
Goodness.
Perhaps I ought to do extracts from the diary of Samuel Pepys.
or the Book of the Dead.
DR Jose, I have to say again that it is so wonderful to hear about your stories of your dream coming true with Lestat etc. How wonderful and exciting for you. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Oh, dear, so many boxed DVD sets coming out next week:
the third round of Shirley Temple films, the Busby Berkeley set, and then TV sets of GIDGET, BEWITCHED (season 3), HUFF, FLYING NUN (season 1).
And then Paramount is offering a new STALAG 17 and that TEN COMMANDMENTS set we talked about the other day.
Plus new releases like CAPOTE and CHICKEN LITTLE.
I'll be picking and choosing from this lot.
So....three members of the pit are on the 7th floor? Do you watch the conductor on a tv screen? Do you hear the rest of the orchestra and the singers? I am confused....well...amazed and confused.
I will certainly be getting the Shirley Temple films...maybe THE FLYING NUN....gosh but I loved that show a lot when I was a kid.
Lots of traveling on THE AMAZING RACE last night.....

American Style bacon (called "streaky bacon" in England)
Re: Canadian bacon, which DR Vixmom mentioned. Where in Canada do they serve this? I've heard many Americans refer to Canadian bacon (which is basically more like ham). But I have never had it here, and had never heard of it till someone mentioned it. The bacon we eat here is just regular bacon!

I wonder who came up with this idea.... and how did they get it to market?
What is that sqaure with the dab, I think it is jelly, next to the bacon?toast
I think those bandaids came from the medical supplies cabinent at Iraq's Abu Ghraib Prison
Like DRJENNIFER, I didn't mind what happened on AMAZING RACE last night.
I don't like it at 10 pm ... but that is another story.
Oh yes FIVE WEEKS IN A BALLOON has everything, unfortunately that everything includes the irritating and self centered Red Buttons....
Scratched your ear, DR CILLA LIZ? Were you saying HI to someone?
LOL They are something I would buy and give to a friend of mine who collects goofy things. I gave her bandaids shaped like lips for Christmas
You can also get a bacon strip wax job....but that is NOT a photo for this site.

Are ypou sure you really live in Canada? Quick look out the window, how many moose do you see?

Well I most definitely live in Canada! :)
All I am telling you guys is what I know. What we call bacon here is the same thing you call bacon in the US. And as for Commonwealth Day, it is most definitely not a holiday celebrated here. There is a chance it is celebrated in other provinces. But as I said I have not heard of it. And when I did a search on "commonwealth day" it showed that it is a holiday in the UK. Perhaps technically since Queen Elizabeth is our queen, then i suppose it is our holiday too. But it's not one celebrated at all, at least not in Quebec.
I like playing Babble. It's like Scrabble, except you pick 72 tiles and you have to form long, run on sentences that don't have a point. I'm pretty good at it.Bet I could beat you! ;D I babble so much I should have been named Brooke

You must, you really MUST, now take in his scintillating performance as "Pockets" in "Hatari."
Well.....am I the only one wearing anything today!? Come on people!
they needed a bigger leading man than Joe Masiell.
I bought the original cast album (there apparently have been no others.) ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY CD yesterday, at Barnes and Noble in Westlake Village. Boy, that Cy Coleman could spin tune, couldn't he. A very young Kevin Kline is on said cast album - in a role that pretty much put him on the map. And Imogen Coca has a great turn in REPENT! Actually, I like that song so much, I may start using it. Comden and Green at their hilarious best!
Maybe Joe Zaso?
Vixmom, you make me laugh!!!
Deb, you got dressed ;)
Were the people in the office looking askance?
Yes, Jack, Joe Bova was in the original cast of 42nd Street in 1980 with, as you mentioned, Carol Cooke

Ready to rock
GP set to host the world with women’s curling championships
The long wait is over for organizers, volunteers and curling fans as the 2006 Ford World Women’s Curling Championships is set to hit the ice at the Canada Games Arena.
It’s been about 16 months since Grande Prairie’s bid to host the international event was accepted by the Canadian Curling Association and no doubt a huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes since then.
From the set-up of committees to the recruitment of volunteers and the sale of ticket packages, as well as other assorted odds and ends, it’s been a hectic time for everyone involved and the work isn’t quite over yet.
But with teams now arriving and the Canada Games Arena all decked out in Ford World Women’s Curling Championships logos and memorabilia, the atmosphere of the event is quickly reaching a whole new level.
The international flavour of the event adds a certain something for a city that has already successfully hosted other events on the national and provincial stages.
Grande Prairie was certainly on the map before this event came along but the world women’s curling championships will undoubtedly help to make the Swan City stand out just a little more when it comes to awareness on a global scale.
But the long-term benefits of hosting the event can be talked about later.
This week, and all of next week until the final is played a week from Sunday, is about putting on the best show possible.
That doesn’t mean just the people directly involved in staging the championship.
It will obviously involve hoteliers, restaurateurs, merchants, cab drivers, and anyone else who will have a chance to meet the acquaintance of some of the visitors to our city.
It may also involve you, whether you are a spectator, or just someone who happens to bump into a visitor from, say, China, or Norway or Italy or Sweden or any of the other 12 nations represented in the event.
It’s going to be a time to remember for Grande Prairians and, hopefully, for those paying a visit for the occasion.
Our impeccable track record of hosting other events, such as the 1995 Canada Winter Games and the 2004 Royal Bank Cup, gives us good reason to expect a memorable – and successful – week.
So today we bid a hearty welcome to all visitors, but most especially the curlers themselves.
They, too, are here to put on a show as this year’s best in women’s curling prepare to hit the hack.
NEW DELHI - At first glance the movie seems like just another Bollywood film: It has the disco-beat songs, the hip-swivelling dance number and the hero and heroine cavorting in the rain in drenched revealing clothes.
But Aisa Kyon Hota Hai? or Why Does This Happen? is a unique first. The newly released feature film, which centres around the twin themes of safe sex and inter-religious harmony, was produced by the Roman Catholic Church in India.
Rev. Dominic Emmanuel, the film's scriptwriter and the spokesman for the New Delhi archdiocese, agreed that it's not the church's normal way of entertaining its flock.
''It is all about using a medium, in this case film, which is not only the most popular in India, but also available to people across the country,'' Emmanuel said.
Increasingly concerned about changing values in Indian society, especially among young people, the Roman Catholic Church is hoping to reinforce the message that long-term relationships and commitment can curb the spread of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
''We did not want to sound preachy. A whole film on HIV would be too boring. At the same time we wanted to hold the attention of the audience,'' said Emmanuel, who first thought about doing a television show, but ended up deciding a movie would be more effective.
With 5.13 million cases, India ranks second only to South Africa in terms of the number of people infected with HIV.
People infected with the virus face any number of prejudices, from difficulty getting into schools to hospitals refusing to treat them.
The Hindi-language film opened in New Delhi cinemas in late February and has seen a ''fairly good response,'' Emmanuel said.
It was funded in part by UNICEF and Christian aid groups such as Catholic Relief Services.

DR Vixmom. Commmonwealth games have indeed started. First events are today. It is now just after 8.00am Thursday. The opening ceremony was spectacular with 80,000 there.

Will anyone be picking up the Busby Berkley DVD set next week?
I have 42ND STREET (one of my all time favorite musicals) already, but I would like to have the other titles...at least FOOTLIGHT PARADE and GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933.

I think I can say.
It is for the NYC Gay Men's Chorus event "You Oughta Be In Pictures" at Avery Fisher Hall featuring special guests Olympia Dukakis, Karen Ziemba, Kitty Carlisle Hart and Claudia Waite.
I have no memory of writing it!
Put down the pills. Almost caught up . . .

Your favorite Harvey Schmidt composition?
Tomorrow I'm headed over to the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon, to try to convince the powers that be that Maria in TWELFTH NIGHT doesn't have to be a young, buxom, sexy young housemaid... that maybe she's an alcoholic older housekeeper, hmmmm? I do like that show, in spite of the strangeness and cruelty of the funny.
Well I am watching WALK THE LINE again....this time of DVD. And Joaquin did a fine job....Reese of course did as well.
It is just a leisurely film...to say the least....slow... But I am enjoying it again.
AND the DVD of THE SHAGGY DOG is very good. The commentary by Kevin Corcoran, Tim Considine, Tom Kirk, and Roberta Shore is a lot of fun to listen to....they are all together watching the film and commenting on it.
There is a short extra called The Kids of THE SHAGGY DOG that has current interviews (copyrighted in 2004 - where has it been? Was it a Disney Channel interview?) - haven't watched the colorized version which is about 10 minutes shorter. And a short collection of clips and memories of Fred MacMurray by the cast and others from THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE including Mr Dick Sherman.
A nice disc!
I would prefer the bouncy theme song from FIVE WEEKS IN A BALLOON, the movie that BK watched/will be watching.
Regarding "Commonwealth Day," I provided a link yesterday that discussed then-Premiere Trudeau signing the observance into law in 1976.
I know that Quebec has considered itself a separate entity from the rest of Canada to the point of trying to secede, so perhaps you guys don't really consider yourselves "Canadian"?
:D

Skip and I will be in Canada on Saturday seeing LORD OF THE RINGS, as I've mentioned earlier. (Hasn't that darn trip happened already, some of you may be asking.) If we have time, we'll try to make a survey of the bacon situation.
I'm sure you didn't mean to be insulting, but what you wrote actually was insulting. There are some people in Quebec who believe in separatism, but not most. And especially not 99% of English speaking people here.
All I said is that the day was not a holiday anybody here celebrates. There are many Canadian holidays that we do celebrate (Canada Day, Victoria Day...). But the one you mentioned is not. Although as I said I cannot speak for every province. Perhaps there are some that consider it a holiday, although I have not heard of any.
Hi everyone.
Sorry to have not been posting but let’s just say I’m having a bad week in more then one way and I didn’t want to bother you all with it. My life is a soap opera--to much drama!
Vixmom, thank you for the phone call. I was sleeping when you called but got the message on my cell phone.
I will have to resend you my home phone number because you should have got the answering machine/service --what ever it is that Vontage does. I will call you back but I can’t use the phones right now—I’m expecting an important phone call and am not sure which number they will use. Just please let me know when it’s ok to call tomorrow.
Vibes to all who need them. I hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers!
:)
HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE finally arrived today as well, but as it's a long movie (I saw it twice at the theater), I will wait until tomorrow to watch it.
DR Matt H, I love Harvey's music a lot, and adore him as a person. I'm so flattered to be on his Christmas card and "special" list, which includes things like his "forty fingers of Harvey Schmidt" CD, which Kritzerland released. Don't you thnk it's a lot of fun?I didn't word this very well, and I've been pondering this since I posted it. Harvey sent as a Christmas card a couple of years ago a CD of himself playing his songs. Harvey plays BIG piano, and it's like he has twenty fingers on each hand. When Kritzerland released the disc commercially I dfidn't purchase it since I already had it, but I am curious about whether the notes are the same. I'm assuming that DR Matt and others on the site have purchased it and are enjoying it. It's a lot of fun.

Cillaliz -- I used to say: I have to be in court in an hour. (I was a court reporter.)
Your jail comment is much better.
I always liked "Many of our attorneys work out of our Long Island office when they're not on trial."
I know what they really mean, but it always struck me as whimsical.
Were you a court reporter in Phoenix? I was a Maricopa County Public Defender from '86-'92 so I was in Superior Court every day and Justice Court at least once a week. I also was a law clerk for Judge (now Justice) Martone
Yes. I mostly did traffic and prelims and depositions and bankruptcy.
I see that TomovOz has become immersed in his new day.Hello DR Ron.
Hello, Tommy!
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Really? Where did you do prelims? I was in the East Valley mostly, Northeast, Tempe and occasionally one of the Mesa courts.
I did the northwest valley, mostly, (when they were farm towns), and Scottsdale, occasionally (I subbed for Maxine).
Oh, and I helped the reporter in Superior Court on Evan Mecham's criminal trial by transcribing her computer notes (back when computers were fairly new in the biz).
Of course, he was acquitted, so the transcript wasn't needed, so we didn't get paid for the work. Did you know he never finished a sentence, and his answers went on for PAGES without ever answering the question.
It was the criminal trial I was at with Judge Ryan.
I liked Judge Ryan. I was assigned to his courtrrom for awhile.
From Governor Hunt building his pyramid tomb to Evan Mecham....
I live near Papago Park and often walk to the tomb. In fact, last year when I was walking every day, that was my destination and I posted photos of it and from it.
Wednesday greetings. I have now worked myself into a total funk over this job thing - it's been advertised on at least 2 statewide professional websites and our very own library website, so I'm competing for my job in what could amount to a worldwide search.
Starting at 9:01pm EST, I'm off for 5 and a half days and will try not to think about it (much). I'll be working at the AAUW used book sale, getting DS Rob home from college, throwing a taco party for a bunch of relatives Sunday evening, and worrying about my husband who takes off on a road trip tomorrow.
Were you a court reporter in Phoenix? I was a Maricopa County Public Defender from '86-'92 so I was in Superior Court every day and Justice Court at least once a week. I also was a law clerk for Judge (now Justice) Martone
Hang in there Ginny. They would be nuts to lose you. I'm sure they have to do the advertising they are doing. Enjoy your time off
DR Cillaliz - we were in Phoenix quite a bit during those years because my mom lived there and it was the only place we could afford to vacation. We never went to court.
No, they had to put it in the staff newsletter for two weeks, and should have let that run its course before advertising anywhere outside the system.
I'm very glad to hear that, Ginny! I also sang with Snake Eyes and occasionally with Chuck E Baby and the All Stars. So if you were roaming the bars at night, you may have met me there
Now I must be off. My DH has a procedure tomorrow, and I must get clear liquids and jello for him.
Hello DR Ron.
My day so far has been spent in attempting to clean and transfer old Homer & Jethro recordings to CD.
To convey my good-health vibes to Mr. Harvey Schmidt, I will now perform my big number from The Fantasticks.
:-X
I played The Mute.
And a serious and wonderful Mute you were!
:-*
Shucks! What's Richard's road trip?
He's going to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to a men's glee club conference in which the Miami University club is participating along with groups from lots of other colleges and some professional groups.
Hmmm...a movie called HOOTENANNY A GO-GO (1965) starring Deanne Lund is releasing in May...sounds like something I need to see!
Holy Mary, cure this boy!
Oh my gosh! I must get a copy of this movie!

DR LAURA - your efforts on behalf of the hoarder were heroic! But some people can't be helped....they might NEED that coffee can or plastic bread wrapper or newspaper someday.
I miss Project Runway. :(
It was stuffed animals and enough Christmas stuff for the entire neighborhood. Their Christmas lights still have not been taken down. And the mice have been all over the stuffed animals. All were precious. We put a dozen large black trash bags full of them into the shed.
A ventriloquist was killing the audience with his act....they loved him. He was telling a series of blonde jokes and the audience was eating it up.
Suddenly in the middle of the room, a young blonde woman stood up on her table and yelled: "Stop it. Just stop it. You are objectifying a human being because of the color of her hair. This is prejudice and it must stop. You should be ashamed of yourself."
The audience got very quiet, and the ventriloquist bowed his head slightly. After a moment he said: "I'm very sorry, young lady, you are correct."
And the blonde said: "You shut up. I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to the short guy sitting on your lap."
My uncle lived next door to Moon. Was he ever caught between the moon and New York city?
Everyone have a great evening! I am off to the Crusades!
Was he ever caught between the moon and New York city?
Stock up on a lot of DVDs!
For starters, I have Junebug from Netflix and a copy of Rent that I purchased the week it was released. I'm thinking of buying Good Night and Good Luck, too.
From the lyrics of that song, it is easy to see why Zager and Evans never had another hit.;D
I'm curious what you think of Junebug. I haven't seen it yet.
DR Elmore recommended it.
It peaked at #106!
Adam "My Bodyguard" Baldwin? Better than those all those Baldwin brothers combined.
Nice mail day. The "Man of La Mancha" score arrived, a student wants to work of some things from that show and the vocal selections are lacking. Also in the mail was an eBay auction won... "Porgy and Bess" - The Houston Grand Opera recording, one that many people here have reccommended and I finally found it on eBay, it's all very exciting.
3rd dress rehearsal for "Aida" tonight. I think I'm close to having my keyboard button pushing choreography down. One of these days I'll grow up and get something that's more automatic. It's a fun book to play, lots of great string lines.
Actually, DR DakotaCelt, you use the marquee command for each sentence.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%][/move]
You will note the word "left" is in the command. You can change "left" to "right"...or "Up" or "down" to get the desired end result.
But waving a wand never hurts, either.
Well I most definitely live in Canada! :)

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.
However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.
On Earth, the sun appears yellow. If you were out in space, or on the moon, the sun would look white. In space, there is no atmosphere to scatter the sun's light. On Earth, some of the shorter wavelength light (the blues and violets) are removed from the direct rays of the sun by scattering. The remaining colors together appear yellow.
Also, out in space, the sky looks dark and black, instead of blue. This is because there is no atmosphere. There is no scattered light to reach your eyes.
Well I got wonderful news. I was going to have to go to the place they normally house our clients pre-trial tomorrow to visit 2 clients - it's a 2 1/2 hour drive one way! Anyway, my secretary just called and they moved both of them to a jail 30 min away!!!! Hip Hip Hooray! I don't have to spend all day in the car to visit them
Well I don't wish Alzheimer's on anyone, not even him.
Carol. Man this was a long time ago - we're talking 15-20 years ago. If she was his reporter. clerk or secretary I'm sure I did. I met a lot of the court staff when I was a law clerk/bailiff (ok they called us law trained bailiff's - we called ourselves law clerks) and after I became a public defender I always got to know the staff.
I knew Judge Ellis' staff the best (she was Budzyn then Ellis while I was there).

And a big Thank You to everyone for their continued well wishes and support regarding Lestat and my "dream". I really am still giddy about the whole shebang. I was walking around the Village earlier tonight when my friend, James, turned to me and said, "Twelve hours from now, you will be an official Broadway pit musician."
:D
