Yes, it certainly has been a lovely day around here.  Quite nicer than over on that fershluganah side of the mountains I normally call "home."

Then why don't you stay on this fershluganah side of the mountains?

A most interesting thing has happened:
I turned on my laptop (which I rarely use) and a window appeared that said I was connected to the internet. I clicked on IE, and lo and behold, here I am!

Interesting, since I have no modem cord attached.

Obviously a miracle, DR DearReaderLaura! Try for a few other things - you never know.

I've been thinking about Johnny Carson today -- and how very very good he was. I can't remember the last time I tuned in to watch a late-night talk show. If I happen to be channel surfing, I might light on Letterman or Leno for a moment, then move on. In the days of Carson, if I was around a TV set at the time of the Tonight Show, I'd tune in for a bit or the whole show -- because I wanted to see what Johnny was up to. It was like having a witty friend who would show up for an hour each week night. There was something kind of comforting in knowing that Johnny was always around. And when something interesting happened in the world - politics, show business, whatever -  I wanted to hear Johnny's take on it. Or if he had a particular guest that I liked/disliked or was curious about, I wanted to see how they got along, what he had to say to them.
As Letterman graciously (and truthfully) said, the ones following him are just pretenders. Johnny was the real thing.

In the docu about Seinfeld, COMEDIAN, it's fascinating to hear all the comics, now successful, talking about what it was like to appear for the first time on Carson's show, and how much it meant to get his approval.

Hell with being a fly on the wall, I would just loved to have been on the set of the film WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?  Four great actors (okay Sandy Dennis not so much) in four of their greatest performances.

As for the stage, I would like to have been a fly on the wall for rehearsals of TAKE ME OUT.  Not that it is the greatest play ever written, but I wouldn't have minded watching the rehearsals.

All right, I shall now be on my way to the Dale of Glen.  I shan't be home too too late, but do keep the home fries burning until my returning.

According to a story on MSNBC.Com,  January 24th is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year.  I, myself, am actually feeling quite chipper.  This may have to do with the fact that my iPod arrived this weekend and I've been playing with it all day here in the office instead of doing any kind of substantial work.  An iPod is an effective mood elevator.  If I were a psychologist, I would hand an iPod to all of my depressed patients instead of the Zoloft and tell them to put on the earphones and start dancing.  True, they might still be depressed, but at least they'll be dancing in the streets instead of walking around with their heads down and their hands in their pockets.

I'm currently dancing in my office chair to Madonna's "Material Girl".

LOL-I thought the most depressing day of the year was the shortest day of the year.  I for one was very happy returning from my day of errands while it was still daylight. :D

No wait maybe it was DR Jane......hmmm

Keith has an SUV so we can get out of here when it snows.  We purchased ours over a year and a half ago, on the way home from the airport the day Craig went into the Peace Corps.  When he was home for Christmas he was very intersted in seeing the car we purchased after he left.  ;D

Carson created a bond amongst many Americans that would not have otherwise existed.  His routines and monologues and guest conversations provided fodder for conversation and connection with co-workers, fellow students and family members for many years.  Late night TV viewing audiences today are too splintered and/or turned off by the limited talent of the guests on these shows these days and/or turned off by how the late night talk-shows have become platforms for shameless plugs (not even thinly disguised) for upcoming movie and/or record releases or TV shows (on the same network as the talk show) for these late night talk shows to create the same virtual community that Carson was able to create.

Like the shower scenes?  DRTCB, for a very sizeable check, I'd be delighted to send you Mr Barrett's email.  Extortion's such a dirty word . . .

Where, location-wise, were you located when you turned on your laptop and made the happy discovery?  You probably have a built-in wireless card.  *And sometimes you can pick up other people's wireless signals... sssh...

Enjoy!
